Went into the shop last weekend to look at a Martin 0015m. Sat down with it and loved the feel and tone but it needed a few adjustments to improve the intonation. I didn’t even have to ask them if they could adjust it, they offered right away when I mentioned that the intonation was a bit off. Mike the GM took care of it and we chatted for a long while about the guitar. I bought it and love it. Mike and his teams customer service was the difference in me walking out with a new guitar that day! Everyone in the shop made me feel welcome and they were non judgmental unlike other shops. I’ll be back to buy more gear and to have my Jazzmaster set up properly.

Theyre a helpful, friendly bunch. Ive been in there several times with various questions and they almost always have a helpful answer. Their repair service is very reliable, just super busy - be ready to be without your instrument for a bit! Its a great place for beginners and experienced musicians.

The shop looks fantastic with a huge collection of gears, however, my personal experience with repairs is poor. I dropped off my guitar for re-string and a to get a fix for the neck pickup on my Ibanez, but after nearly 42 days, I had to bring it back, because they couldnt even take a look at it even after I called in several times in between! Id not recommend if you need repair work, but definitely go for shopping!

Mass Street Music is a top of the line store for string players. The staff are all very knowledgeable and welcoming. It is also nice that everyone there will remember your name after youve been there a few times.My favorite place in the store is upstairs in the back of the store. This is where the highest quality instruments are and often there are rarities by luthiers from around the U.S. The best mandolin I ever played was in that room and unfortunately out of my price range at the time. It was a 1929 Gibson F4 and in excellent condition! It was a joy to play.I highly recommend this store for players just starting out, all the way up to professional players.

I got an Eastman MD505 Mandolin from here, superior clerks and luthiers! Very nice shop design, it helps that the store is sort of divided into different sections with different instruments. Wide range of guitar-like instruments such as ukeleles, electric/base/acoustic guitars, mandolins, mandolas, banjos, and even hybrids like banjoleles. Once again, very knowledgeable staff.Well worth the 3 hour drive from Lincoln Nebraska.

Found these guys online a few days ago. It has recently been impossible to get 8 string baritone acoustic Elixirs, even from Elixir. These guys filled my order, shipped, and had it on my doorstep in 2 days halfway across the country. I will definitely be back.

As a beginner, I am always a little hesitant to enter a guitar shop. I dont know exactly how to communicate what I need and I cant play all that well so it can be intimidating. The folks at Mass Street Music are so great at making you feel comfortable. Brian was so helpful in directing me to figure out what guitars would work best for the style of playing I am currently interested in, the size of guitar to best suit me (and help with a nagging shoulder issue.) And, he kept me within my budget. I feel like I have a great instrument, excellent quality and friendly service.The service dept. is great too. Every instrument gets a free set up and if youre like me and dont know anything about that process, theyll walk you through it, show you some options, make some adjustments, show you again. I learned so much the first time.Cant recommend enough to start here if you are a beginner.

Wow, what a great repair facility! I have a crack in my Gibson guitar and now I know where Im taking it. I stopped by and talked to a repair guy who was helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I am very confident that they will do a great job.

My wife and I visited MSM in August 2017 as part of a road trip to Texas. MSM was a specific destination as I wanted to check out some high end guitars. In the end, MSM did a great job setting up my 7-year old Collings guitar and I went home with a new incredible Collings Traditional series guitar. Josh, Trey, Mike and Jim were excellent to deal with and they spent a number of hours with me during our two days in their shop. Without question, we will shop at MSM again.

These are the greatest guys on the planet. Had an issue with a ukulele I bought there months ago and they ended up getting Fender to replace the thing with the newer model. Setup and prep are outstanding as they take the time to do it right, no matter how long it takes. This is the place to go in Lawrence for all things guitar. They do have a decent selection of other instruments and related items, but guitars are their primary focus.The repair shop upstairs is well stocked with exactly what you need to get that old guitar in storage playing again. A very friendly and helpful staff along with reasonable prices makes everything about Mass Street Music deserve this five star rating. I highly recommend them.

Yes! Great place. Came from 4 hours away and was not at all disappointed. Good/great selection of stringed instruments – including both low- and high-end gear, acoustic and electric. I came to try out nice banjos this time and had brought mine (a cheap beginner model) in hopes of maybe getting it looked at. I was expecting, at most, for someone to give me some advice on setting it up; instead, their technician – Trey, who also does their banjo videos on YouTube and is a SUPER nice guy – worked me in and got my cheapo instrument playing quite nicely. No prior notice, practically no wait time, which is unheard of and so very helpful to an out-of-towner. He and everyone else seem to be such great folks. I told them straight up that I was just browsing today, and they were totally cool with that, allowing me to sit and try everything for literally a couple (or three) hours – which, again, is just super cool. Great experience and will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a superb music store.

This store is oriented toward guitars and related instruments (like banjo or ukulele). They specialize in sales and repair, with some emphasis on lessons. They also have equipment for performance, but I cant really evaluate that. I find the staff helpful and well informed, especially for a part-time amateur like me.

I recently had my (old) bass guitar set up at Mass Street Music. Ive been taking lessons but Im still a novice when it comes to instruments, set-ups, strings, etc. The helpful staff at Mass Street were great. They listened to me describe what I wanted and explained everything in a clear and concise manner. After adjusting and restringing my bass, it sounds and plays better than it had before.They also have a great selection of new and used instruments and set up is included in the cost. My musician friends all hold Mass Street and its staff in high regard for their knowledge and service. Now that Ive worked with them, I understand why theyre so highly regarded and I wont go anywhere else.

I have been shopping music stores for 40 years. Mass Street Music makes me feel important the minute they say hello. I have had multiple experiences with a variety of the staff where they went out of their way, not only to make it right, but to show me they value what happens at my gig more than their cash register. The prices are fair, not low, but fair. The service has been priceless.

This store has a great reputation and it is 100% well earned. I had one of my good old guitars appraised there and the look over was more thorough and accurate than I would have ever expected. None of that old I-am-in-a-band-and-work-in-a-music-store-so-youre-an-idiot-and-I-know-everything-because-I-am-a-self-proclaimed-rock-star-guitar-god intimidation. Super friendly folk, great conversation. We took my fathers 53 Gibson guitar in for repair. It sounded good even with a crack in it but after the guys did the repairs it sounds amazing. The guitar was given to my daddy by his oldest brother and now I am the proud owner and start guitar lessons after the first of the year.Thank you all for the excellent service. Great shop, the staff is top notice and Jim is a wealth of knowledge. I drove 3 & 1/2 hours to get there, and it was well worth it. I felt like the deal I got was fair and left feeling great. Just had an adjustment in the shop upstairs. These guys are amazing and know their stuff. They fixed my Tele right up and saved me a lot of stress. Next time I’ll remember to take it to the experts.

Nice people, very nice instruments but unless youre buying a $10,000 Taylor or something similar be prepared to be treated like an idiot from their luthiers. Twice Ive taken an instrument to their repair shop, and twice it was returned to me sounding worse than when it went in. Im going to pay somebody else to repair the guitar I just bought from them rather than take it back to Mass St. for their free set up on new guitars

Excellent store for real musicians, far apart from the Guitar Centers of the world. Very fine selection of electric and acoustic guitars and basses and a truly great repair department. Bought my Ukadelic here and been playing it ever since.

I try to buy as much from this store as I can. As I see it, its a landmark in Lawrence, KS and I would hate to see it ever go out of business. Friendly, knowledgable staff who are down for a chat instead of hurrying you to make a quick sale. Its a great store. One of the best music stores (for guitars especially) that I have ever come across. The review about the guy complaining about an increase in pick price from $0.75 to a $1 sounds like a fool. Love this store.

If I could put a + on the end of the 5th star I would. Ive been in twice to have an older acoustic guitar repaired for two separate issues. The guitar did not have a lot of cash value, the repairs cost more than it was worth but that didnt change that it was looked at right away with sincere concern. Not only did the guitar play better than EVER before but the costs were less than I expected and the staff went above and beyond going on and on educating me on how to keep my guitar in good shape. Both the repair shop and sales associates worked together to supply me with great information on how to keep enjoying the only guitar Ill ever play. I was also welcomed at the front door every time I walked in. In a time of rare impressive customer service, Mass Street Music made a big impression. Thank you.

Just walking into Mass Street Music you can tell its well and above most music stores. You will be greeted immediately by one of their always helpful and friendly staff members, but you will also notice they have some of the best music equipment for sale. Their staff excels in great advice if you are looking for something to satisfy your never ending quest for tone. While they have many great amps, guitars, basses, and other music equipment, they are great at listening to your needs and not always just recommending the most expensive.So, they not only excel in sales and the quality of instruments, but their repair shop is absolutely amazing. Even though I live in a town about 30 miles away from the store, I refuse to go anywhere else, or trust anyone else working on my guitar. You guys rock!!!

Great service. Friendly staff. They do all of my banjo work, and if the setup is not exactly right, they make the requested changes without any grief. They have also completed some guitar setups and repairs for me, and I could not be happier. I had a guitar that had been to another shop three times, and it never got sorted out until MSM took a stab at it. One hour later I received a call. They found a short. Problem solved.

Took my bass in to see if they had some parts for it. They had some of them but not the one I really needed. But when I got home I noticed on my receipt I was charged $5 for reattaching the jack. Except they didnt even touch my guitar. $5 for looking for some parts? Wont be back.
