Loved the menu choices. The description and photos looks awesome. But in actuality the taste didnt match that. Kinda bland. The service was nice but there was a miscommunication on their part in the beginning. The hostess sat us outside and said someone will come out and take our orders. After waiting for awhile no one ever came out. We had to ask 2 times before someone got us water. Then it turns out that sitting outside means no actual person helps you. You have to place the order through their site yourself. They felt bad and ended up sending someone out to help. She was really sweet and nice but since she wasnt supposed to serve the outside we didnt get the regular customer service like we are supposed to. The kale salad had no flavor and there was too much dressing that wilted the leaves quite a bit, coffee was served more in a soup bowl than a mug so that was interesting. I was really excited about the cinnamon roll because of the description, but it came out room temperature and hard since it wasnt heated up at all. Took it home and heated it up the next day, it was better but still kinda hard. I would go back to try other menu items. And let that be the final judge. I went here years ago when they first opened and realized I felt the same way since I never went back until yesterday.
Had brunch here and ordered the chicken and gravy with 2 poached eggs. I liked the breading of the chicken but it was lacking in flavor. Its definitely rich and creamy but it was definitely missing the extra oomf factor. The service was top-notch and thats why they deserved 5 stars. Dont forget to put yourself on the wait-list through their website!
When they open for dine in again, definitely use their online waitlist!!!Beyond that, everything we had was delicious & the portion sizes were well worth the price! We had the pizza, French toast, fries & kale salad. (The salad was HUGE and I couldn’t finish it…I don’t say that often.)They were 100% worth it + we grabbed some cookies on the way out!The peanut butter oat is to die for!!! Got two…and they were gone within minutes of bringing them home.(We also got their lattes!)
Simply amazing! Every ounce of this take out experience was fabulous. While, Ive never wined and dined indoors, I was super impressed with the takeout/pickup option.Right upon arrival I was quickly greeted with a friendly staff member. I waited less than five minutes for my food and was on my way.The portions are huge! My goodness this salad can easily feed four. As for the chocolate cake, that is all for me-party of one! Ha! The cake is very moist, chocolaty, without being overly sweet. Its such a decadent treat and I cant wait to try their other cake selections. The chicken sandwich was fantastic. It was super crispy and I love that crunch. I highly recommend getting extra pickles.Overall this experience left a lasting impression and I cant wait to come here again; hopefully next time enjoying myself at a table for two, sharing some appetizers, and enjoying the restaurants ambiance. How I miss eating out!
Super friendly staff, great food and pretty fall colors! Loved the pizza and fried chicken sandwich. And I am not used to seeing $3 beer on menus anymore so that was pretty surprising and refreshing. And the carrot cake is a MUST even if youre allergic to Vitamin A. Keep up the good work and always have a $3 beer on the menu! :)
I have the fried chicken sandwich. I also tried the farmers eggs. Delicious!
Great little place for brunch. Best fries in the Seattle area! Wide array of non alcoholic beverages to choose from. Loved them quirky coffee cups. Coconut cream cake offered the perfect ending. They do have a wait-list online but it doesnt provide any estimation on wait time. We were 3rd on the list when we arrived and still had to wait for an hour to get the table.
VERY efficient new system for the pandemic they have set-up. Lines only because they are so busy (which is a good thing). The Roast Beef sandwich I had was among the best Ive had, though the matcha latte I received seemed more milk than anything else. Overall, would definitely go back, very good sandwich and system!
This is definitely the best pizza on the eastside! And ok I know an Apple pizza sounds weird but its ok when its the main star of the dish! Gotta try it, it very interesting and incredibly refreshing. If you are into dark chicken meat try their fried chicken sandwhich too, its divine. And while their breakfast is really expensive, its pretty damn good!!!
This place is awesome. Quickly becoming our favorite restaurant in the area! Probably why the staff are starting to remember us. I swear, I should probably drive a different car there so I can surprise them, the white dodge challenger is a little inconspicuous. Regardless, they treat you like youve come home, and the food quality matches that kindness.Every pizza is delicious, every slice of cake is huge, and those marshmallows on the hot chocolate, delicious. One question I have though, how much arugula do they use each day?If you get a chance to go, go.
I think the intentions are there, and they have delicious bakery items. We decided to join the wait-list to dine there. The wait time was about an hour but it was online, so it was ok. However, when we were told our table was ready we still had to wait for 30 minutes until the table was actually ready. (And then another 20 minutes for food after we ordered). We really wanted to like the fried chicken breakfast. It was crunchy and flavorful on the outside, but the chicken itself was pretty bland, as was the poached eggs. Luckily we ordered some focaccia to sop up the perfectly runny yolk and gravy but it needed some vehicle. The most disappointing piece for me is that the batter was not fully cooked and there were cartilage pieces in my thigh. The batter was *mostly* cooked, but where the thigh was thicker or bent, was where the gooey, uncooked batter was. My son had a chicken sandwich which didnt have the batter issues (hard to say since he devoured it so quickly), and my other son got a fantastic French toast that was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. Anyways, its hit or miss, but after a long wait, my meal was a disappointment. But the service is wonderful and the intent is there.
Got multiple cakes from here for my wedding and they were a HUGE hit! Absolutely delicious - Im so happy with how they traveled and tasted.
My friend and I decided to go here for some lunch. The reviews seemed good and the menu looked interesting. We were seated outside and they have these wonderful heaters so even if it is chilly outside seating is doableWe orderes coffee, donuts, a side of potatos, and sandwiches. I kid you not, the food was impeccable. I have not had a meal this delicious in along time. Everything was simple yet unique. If you are looking for a nice brunch or lunch spot look no further.I will be back for sure!
I’ve been going here for almost a decade and they’ve been consistently good with almost everything they make and use the freshest, high quality ingredients. And, their cakes are exceptional.
Got a small Farm Salad no cheese and it was generous amount but could use more veggies in it then what it had. Got the Meat pizza my hubby said flavors are good just lacking toppings for the price we paid. We will try again just would like to see more toppings if your going to price a pizza for $21 and more veggies (celery, carrots, red bell peppers) in the farm salad
There are definitely some good menu items but not everything is.The good : Great service! Though there was over 1.5 hours of wait time, once youre in the table, the waiters were fast and so as the kitchen. The fried chicken and gravy was great but not really a hard recipe to impress. The bad : The restaurant need to lay off their obsession with Arugula. The sandwich had a lot of Arugula and way too acidic. The pork loin was essentially a plate full of Arugula salad with less than 4oz of meat. The restaurant also doesnt make a good use of space and the tables are arranged too close with not more than 2ft between them. No, I may not be returning in spite of awesome waiters and service.
Update: still closed for dine in. Seriously? The food here is incredible. It is a chic rustic cafe-restaurant style eatery that used to be an auto shop. Similar to their sister shop Little Brother nearby, they have bowls of coffee. It is a little pricey but worth it. Cake slices take two people minimum to eat due to the size. Such great quality!
We have ordered takeout a handful of times from DERU throughout the pandemic, and they have been amazing every single time. Staff is always extremely friendly, and the food is delicious, even after a 20-minute drive home. Sometimes, we show up just for cake! Food might be pricey for some, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Id highly recommend!
Awesome service. The barista at the bar was super friendly and even talked to us about his passion for coffee and gave some tips on how to make espressos.
DERU is what Panera tries to be. DERU is a fantastic place for lux Cafe-style food such as sandwiches, soups, salads, pizzas, bakes goods... The key takeaway is that DERUs items are maximum flavor while feeling relatively light in your stomach. Its actually easy to overeat here because the portions are shareable and just so tasty without feeling yucky. Whatever we order is usually lunch for two days. Its our favorite place in Kirkland!
This is the best sandwich Ive ever had in my whole life. Ive been here like 20 times in the past year. Would highly recommend the sandwiches and coffee.
Great food and long waits, though Deru lets you get in line digitally, which really makes this experience much nicer. Everything weve had from Deru has been amazing taste and food quality! Service top notch as well.
The cake is insane, foods great too but seriously please get the cake. Pretty expensive and there’s not a lot of parking but the carrot cake is worth it. Just order a slice though unless you have a shot of insulin on standby
I had a pulled pork sandwich and some tomato bisque. I was blown away at the quality. The deserts looked good and smelled amazing. I am going back for that cake one of these days.
Takeout food here is amazing. Best pizza crust I’ve ever had. Apple bread is to die for. Breakfast sandwich is incredibly good.
I was so disappointed by my pick up order. I brought my daughters down to Kirkland for a mommy-daughters trip and I wanted to share the DERU experience with them. I love sharing my favorite places with them and for a long time DERU was one of those places. I ordered a giant hot meatball and the Lemon poppy slice of cake. I got two smallish-medium meatballs that were overheated because the top was burnt to the point that it was difficult to cut with a fork. It was also exceptionally salty. The cake was very dry and was nothing like I remembered. Overall, we were disappointed by the quality of the food. I am giving it the benefit of the doubt that they are still adjusting to the pandemic and pivoting as a restaurant.
Nice environment and good service. Food is delicious and reasonably priced too.
Great food and service. Their cake slices are big enough to share, and eat for days.
Fresh, natural, organic good food that didnt blow my mind with its taste. While the food was good and service was friendly, the breakfast didnt make me crave it. It is a safe choice for a good, natural meal. The presentation was great, and the Mason jars for the still water is always a surefire way to that your restaurant is down to earth, the food has to rock either through creative combinations or embracing natural comfort food.DERU plays it safe with what we ordered.
Gluten free pb oat cookie is a must along with Victrola Coffee. Yum.
Food is good. The reason I gave a 2 Star is because of the mandatory 15% for take out. Pizza is cold by the time you get home, Salad is not mixed like when served at the restaurant. I can understand 15% for indoor dining based on service. Plus they have raised their price, I believe twice in a year.
The food is very good, but I was most impressed by their takeout operation. Curbside pickup with a very organized setup of people helping and waving you through their pickup lanes. Allows them to get through a lot of orders with efficiency, and the whole thing was very covid safe. The food itself was quite tasty. The portion sizes for the half-sandwich and soup were more than enough to satisfy, and the cinnamon roll is definitely big enough to split for two.I wouldnt call this place cheap, but it doesnt break the bank by any means and I absolutely felt that I got what I paid for. Will definitely be coming back
We really love their cakes for birthday parties. They also have delicious sandwiches and salads available for drive through pickup.
This place is a local must-have. Cant wait to go back.
Got delicious pizza and cookies. Always a great experience at Deru. Highly recommend.
DERU is my favorite place to eat. I am gluten free and they are always sensitive to my allergies. I have been eating at DERU for 10 years. 10 years. Did I say 10 years? I first ran into Jamie and Lezlie at the Kirkland Farmers Market and my girls and I fell in love with their food and drinks.Fast forward, I still love their food and get it as often as I can. I take all of my out of town guests there and they now request it as our first stop. Is it pricey? For farm to table, organic and seasonal - it is right on the money. I have also ordered catering thru DERU for a funeral and it was perfect.I always go to DERU for my birthday with my birthday twin. I love that when I looked for pics of DERU food, it was always on our birthday.I love to order their cakes. They are delicious (I have heard) and are quite the statement piece on a table. I ordered an 8oz of their PB frosting and made some GF chocolate cupcakes so I didnt feel left out.Let me just add that their COVID parking and drive thru situation is ideal. I prefer to call to place an order because sometimes their website is not up to date on some seasonal items and with allergies you can never be too sure. They have a 15% surcharge on all orders and I think that is great - they are awesome!
So so good!Cake was amazing, sandwichs were so good. Esp the smoked turkey one!Fries were a bit too salty tho.
Nice place, overall the food tasted good. Because the pizza is served on a cold plate that isnt porous, the heat from the pizza causes steam to be trapped below the crust making it soggy quickly. Additionally, the pizza was not made in a rush it seems as the distribution of the toppings were haphazard. It was as though they just threw every required on without thinking about maybe evenly distributing anything, making a very inconsistent pizza from slice to slice. They also forgot the garlic fries we ordered until my friend reminded them.
Always amazing. Really enjoyable experience every time we go.
This place has the most amazing food. Everything is fresh, healthy (okay...maybe not the cake), delicious and it has a great vibe. We had a fire oven baked pizza and the farmers salad. Hubby also ordered a salted iced latte. And their cakes looked so good (huuuuge slices) but we were stuffed from our meal. We can’t wait to come here again.
They are so organized and friendly, and of course their food is to die for. The dinner club items are marked with gluten free and dairy free items if you need that. Youll just need to plan ahead!
Lovely food, good service. A bit pricy and hipster but worth it.
I love this spot!! The chocolate cake is simply amazing.
Incredible, homemade-style food and desserts. Jacob is an absolute legend and totally knowledgeable when it comes to their menu and local areas of interest.
The food and service is always amazing. You wont be disappointed with any choice on their menu. You can order ahead and they let you know when you can pick up the food.
Some friends and I tried Deru for the first time for my friends birthday. Blake, was amazing as he gave us a rundown of the menu. We went with his two favorites: the chocolate peanut butter cake and the carrot cake. Both were SO good. We will definitely be back again. Thanks Blake!
Everything is so delicious & fresh here. Oh & the cake !!!
Well. Service was good. Atmosphere was good. But I could tell food was made “from scratch” which is good but not well executed. Has fried chicken with sausage gravy. Fried chicken was good but “gravy” was not gravy but soupy watery sauce. I’m not trying to be an A hole but gravy from diner/fast food would be much better. When I got /are it it was like. “Wow chicken is good but watery white sauce/soup. Agh” sry. Just disappointed and hope place does well but I would rather go to iHOP for fried chicken and biscuits/gravy. Not even considering it’s 2-:x more here.I will try here again at some but scratching my head at how that quality could come out of the kitchen ( when I would rather eat at IHOP OR MCdonalds)Sry.
Cute spot for brunch and lunch. Come early, but expect to queue. I came here with friends. They got the market salad and I ordered the fried chicken. Not knowing it came with the gravy which after all these time is still a foreign (read - American) thing for me. Cookies and cakes were on displayed so nicely and you couldnt help but getting one... or three.
Like the farmers market crossed with home cooking. The best meatloaf and veggies Ive ever had. And their slices of cake are HUGE and delicious. Bonus points for chocolate with salted peanut butter frosting!Delicious and Covid friendly pickup options. Well be back soon.
Havent been there for food but the chocolate peanut butter cake is AMAZING
Excellent service! Food was delicious as well, everyone was so kind!
Deru is great. We had the chicken dinner and the chicken sandwich. Both were amazing. Well be back !
I love coming to this place for a treat of cake, we love the carrot and chocolate cake here although it’s a bit pricey, $16 for piece for 2 people. Hence why it’s a treat. Wait times here is something you should expect. Come 15 minutes early to get a table. Also, they have amazing coffee. We have never tried any of the food.
Good meal and coffee. . I love it.
A must try place. Awesome sandwich and drive through service.
Take out only for the winter. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
One of the gems of the Greater-Seattle area!Chef Jamie and her team never disappoint. Even recently - I was blown away at their newest addition of a fried chicken sandwich. At first my thought was... I am positive that Chef Jamie would never add something to her menu without it being exceptional and whaddya know - ITS AMAZING!Our whole family and our friends absolutely love DERU.We are so happy that they have stayed in business through this pandemic. Looking forward to the day we can eat at the restaurant again.
This place is pretty pricey but its so delicious. I really like the Rosemary Parmesan Fries, their Kale & Sweet Potato Salad and of course their cakes are to die for. My favorite is the chocolate cake with the salted peanut butter frosting and their seasonal cakes which right now is pumpkin. I highly recommend stopping by here when you are in the Kirkland area for a perfect take-out surprise for yourself or your family! Youll be thankful you did.
This is an interesting place for breakfast. Its got a very limited menu which is either hit or a miss. My French toast was definitely a miss. The bread was too airy and fresh with a hard crust and making the toast soggy and wet. It was not good. However, my dad had the biscuit and gravy with poached eggs and that was most definitely a hit. It was very very good. We also had the peanut butter chocolate cake with coffee and it was fantastic.Overall, what they do good, they do very good. But not all dishes are made equal
A fantastic local restaurant and caterer, the food is amazing and the entire staff are all super nice.
The lemon poopyseed cake was delicious! I wish they gave out more than 1 little condiment cup of the fruit compote since it was amazing and made the cake!
Still only doing catering or restaurant pick up (brought to your car) but excellent process and quite yummy. Latte was basically just coffee flavored milk and carrots were undercooked, but will definitely return.
Our favourite place to eat on the east side. Everything from coffee to cakes to brunches. All is made with high standards, and love.everything on the menu Tastes amazing every time. Thank you !
Deru has the best sweet treats. Try the peanut butter chocolate cake. Delicious
Such a tasty spot !! the people who work here are really nice and are so quick to get your food out to your car, and as long as you get the pulled pork sandwich, you’ll have a great meal 🙃
Lovely staff and wonderful wine. The location here is the only downside that it is hard to find. But once you find it......it is worth it!!!
Lovely staff and wonderful coffee. They were kind enough to accommodate me when I asked to cancel an online order and place an order in person. Sorry for the trouble!
Best chicken sandwich ever ! Their salad dressing is to die for! The cherry on top? Their staff is lovely and customer service is on point 👍
I will forever and always cross to the Eastside just for their veggie sandwich. Usually veggie sammies are not my jam, but this one is out of this world! And I always have to grab a bakery item too...most recently got a slice of carrot cake. They give very generous cake slices. So very delicious.
Tucked in among houses and industrial warehouses sits this gem in Kirkland. The special cornbread fruit tart was so good I couldnt slow down to take a photo, get there early before theyre gone! Drive up and order of you dont call or online in advance, their system shows pickup times in half hour increments so it looks like youll have to wait but they are pretty on top of it.
