When I first enter CarMax this was refreshing and everybody was professional and everybody was welcoming and if you feel like home. And Im a disabled vet Im had a series of strokes and was my senior sales consultant and Matt he was great to me he was amazing. He was patient with me because of my disability.
Was able to sell my car no strings attached at a better price than carvana. Whole process took about 90 minutes. Lot looked good. Employees were friendly and helpful. Getting an online quote was fast and easy and they honored the price.
My husband and I went in to purchase a Jeep Wrangler and walked away with a Subaru Outback instead and absolutely could not be happier! They gave us a fair price for our trade in and we love how smooth the whole process was!! Every car we buy from now on will be bought through CarMax! Our salesman was phenomenal!! I went online and received a buy bid on my 2020 Accord Touring. The offer was $3000 higher than anywhere else so I jumped on it! The entire process took about 90 minutes and I left with check in hand! Very easy and efficient! Thanks Again
I came in to sell my car; I had a written offer from Carmax and they honored the offer without any negotiation. It was a very smooth process and everyone there was very nice. I walker out with check in hand, very nice doing business with honest people!
The CarMax process to sell our car was great. I took in our car.....answered some questions about the car (accident damage? Rust? Brakes? anything else?). I let CarMax do their detailed analysis which took only 45 minutes. They came back with a very fair proposal. We were debating about having it fixed at a repair shop, but the labor charges would have been too high for the age/condition of the car. But the CarMax offer swayed us to sell it to them. We brought the car back in 3 days (I needed a ride home). We spent about a total of an hour in-line and waiting for the Business Office to prepare the paperwork and cut the check. But the people were all very friendly and gave us the check as promised.
First rate from start to finish. They make the process extremely easy. I will definitely be back.
My sales rep was amazing! He did a great job. If it were a review on him, I would give five stars.I give the experience three stars based on the cleanliness of the car (even though there was plenty of time to detail it) and it took 90 minutes of waiting for the notary to get the paperwork signed. I know there aren’t enough staff but to sit behind him, waiting and hearing him talk and talk was a bit frustrating.
Great store, Great Employees.... Love my vehicle, no one else had it. Great price too!. But I ran into a problem. No one gave me any out of the box options. Ive bought from 3 other dealers all who were receptive to helping. CarMax was not. If you want help that requires out of the box thinking. You should go to one of the competitors down the road. If you want to resolve your own problems and get good service. This is for you. I just was not comfortable. Except for the one issue near perfect.
We went on a Sunday to browse when the store closed. We had to park on a side street since the lot is enclosed but accessible by foot. The prices and details were in most of the vehicles. Some windows had tint and it made it hard to read. All the vehicles were easy to get around with proper spacing to walk between them. The lot was well maintained. We will be going back to talk with someone about purchasing. All the vehicles on the lot were in above average condition. Plenty of choices.
Absolutely horrible customer service. The sales process was seamless. After that it was horrible. Business office does not answer the phone. Both sales managers do not return voicemails. Then they will answer and hang up on you. DO NOT BUY HERE.

I took my vehicle to CarMax for an appraisal the other day. They offered me 33K and said that the offer is good for 7 days. I thought about it a couple of days and went back there to sell it. I gave the business office all documents they requested and waited in the lobby area. 1 hour later they told me that there’s an issue with the mileage and the new offer is 25k. I asked why they offered me 33k 2 days ago and now they’re offering 25k. They said that they probably didn’t pay attention when they looked at the vehicle report the first time. I will never go back there again!
Truly a great car buying experience!! They were helpful but did not hound us. They fixed the items on the car we were concerned with immediately even before we decided to purchase the car. Buying was smooth & painless! They really do what they say on their website!! Plus our sales person Kelly was super friendly & helpful!!
This is my 4th car purchase from CarMax. Great experience with everyone I dealt with. I ended up trading up a van I purchased a week earlier and their 30 day love it program was nice. When I brought my van in for service, David behind the counter called me out by my first name as I entered. He had a loner van that was similar to what I have all ready to go. I didnt miss any time off at work and they finished the work by the time I requested.
Worst car experience Ive had hands down. We arrived to sell my wifes hyundai accent at 10:45. After being told itd be taken for a 30-45 minute test drive and inspection, we made our way over to the business office desk at 11:45 with our offer in hand. Then, everything went downhill. We were told there were some offers ahead of us and itd be approximately 30 minutes for us. It was actually TWO HOURS of waiting with no one getting called for their offers, but plenty of time for business office employees to be showing each other pictures and ignore the multiple people at the desk, inquiring how long itd take as ONE person was called up during this time. I had to track down the employee who initially processed my intake to request I speak with a manager, who proceeded to continue hiding in the business office and never spoke to me. After I explained my frustration to the intake employee, another carmax employee had the gull to loudly ponder to ANOTHER CUSTOMER what my problem was. FINALLY, after I had to make a scene, I spotted a technician shortly after looking over the vehicle for yet another 15 minute inspection that I suppose wasnt performed in the initial intake because efficiency is overrated. During this time, my wife counted no less than 10 other employees just standing around, which I understand they may have different job descriptions but perhaps a quality manager who doesnt hide in the business office would take that as an opportunity for cross-training so they could alleviate these issues in the future, but no such manager was on duty today.Like I understand that sometimes stuff takes longer than expected, but just communicate those issues instead of ignoring everyone in the lobby. As I said, an absolutely terrible experience and I will not be recommending others to go to this store for their needs.
Made an appointment to get our truck appraised in person, because the online appraisal was not an option for our 2021 Tacoma. They wanted to see it in person. Checked in 10 minutes prior to our appointment and were told that someone would be with us in an hour. We reiterated at we had a 1:00 pm appointment, and the guy said, “yes, and I’m here to help you with that appointment.” Our appointment was at 1:00, not 2:00. We left. Our schedule didn’t work for the 2:00 appointment time, that is why we chose 1:00. Customer lost. We were selling that truck today!
One star due to the fact I reserved a car and was coming to pick up Wednesday. The sales manager so Im told decides to go ahead and sale the kia niro I wanted to buy. It was a busy day and I was at the site almost 2hrs. Im not complaining though! EVERY employee had a positive attitude and could been seen working hard to accommodate all the client demands coming their way. My entire experience was professional, courteous, and, efficient.
Me and my wife sold and purchased our truck through the Indianapolis Carmax. The initial sale was relatively smooth but beyond that its been a nightmare. Not only did the truck have issues and needed to be fixed within the first week of having it, we are now 64 days in without our plates or registration. We have called the Carmax Indianapolis business office over 20 times without any answer. When I get into contact with someone at corporate they also have no success in reaching the office. This is the only vehicle that me and my wife own so we are currently driving with no plates or registration and Carmax has made 0 effort to help. I would avoid Carmax and try Carvana.
I had a more than fair appraisal for my car and sold it to Car Max. From start to finish, your staff was courteous and professional. I mistakenly left my garage door opener in the car, and when I called, Kelly found it for me and mailed it to my home. Outstanding customer service and a great experience!!
To start off, I would like to share my credentials for why I have such a strong opinion on how things should be handled. I am an experienced ASE Certified Dealer Technician. My experience with Carmax, was far from those high standards I had witnessed while working for dealers. The car wasnt at my local carmax. So I had it shipped from another carmax for a fee. A week later the car arrived. However the windshield was cracked in transit. I get invited to come see the car a few days later. Immediately I can see cosmetic defects that wasnt visible in the online pictures. The vehicle had been in a front end collision back in 2013. They told me this respectfully. After I found a list of things wrong with the car. My salesman informed me everything would be fixed for free, if I bought the car. I ended up buying the car, and had a written form saying all of these things would be fixed for free. That same night the engine light came on. I just read the code and diagnosed it. The engine light ended up going away. 3 weeks later I finally got the chance to bring back my vehicle to get it fixed. 4 days before I was scheduled to bring it back, the engine light came back. However, this time it was flashing. Engine was running rough, and I barely made it home. I had 2 options. Diagnose, and fix it myself, or pay the same amount to tow it 45 minutes to carmax for cheap parts to be put on it. I decided to go ahead, and fix it. The problem was ignition coils. Before I replaced it. I called down to carmax, talked to a service advisor. As I was telling him my story he cut me off. He said did you replace it already. I told him no I just wanted to know if it would void the warranty. He said no we will reimburse you for the parts. (Took a month to get my money back) In the weeks before my appointment. I noticed issues with my car. Before I bought it: windshield trim damaged, front bumper not installed properly, Rear bumper orange peeling on the entire rear bumper, right rear quarter panel had a big ding in it. (All of that was to be fixed.) What I found after purchase: the fender under the windsheild trim dented when windshield was replaced, windshield top seal wasnt sealed correctly, windshield needed replaced again, battery was bad a long crank when starting with an ESC error message, front tire was loosing air needing filled once a week, when driving it sounded like a wheel bearing was going out, tires felt out of balance, front head light assemblies installed incorrectly leaving a huge gap between the fender, horrble paint work on the passenger side. I wasnt happy. The day I brought it in. I explained all of this to a service advisor. When I told him I wanted to show him everything. He said hed let my advisor do it. We went to him, same guy on the phone. Cut me off, didnt want to see, or listen. After getting a tone he came out to look. Seeing everything, he proceeded to act very unprofessional he said they wont fix any of this word of advice start looking for a new car. He proceeded to hush me away. A week later. He told me they fixed a wheel bearing, replaced the windshield, patched a tire, painted the RR panel. Nothing else. I messaged my salesman. He said he would talk to his manager. I called my advisor back a few days later. Asked him if he had talked to sales. He said no. I tell him I had written approval for all of this. He quickly said oh okay Ill have them paint the bumper. Few days later I pick it up. Paint was better. Most of my issues werent fixed. I just wanted my car back. They didnt even drive it a mile. They test drove it I kept finding stuff even after that. Ive had to replace my battery, even though I said it was bad. Ive fixed tons of simple cosmetic things since then. Even found my windshield cracked at the bottom from install. My advice go to a real dealer. Atleast they wont hack it more than it already is before selling it to you. Plus it will be OEM parts aswell. Ill never buy from a place like this again.
Ryan Sawyer in the service center is the incredibly rude & condescending. After saying he has never heard of all the “problems” I’m having with my type of vehicle. He then proceeded to to tell me this is why he purchases Chrysler’s instead. He then told me I’m having ALL the issues I mentioned because I didn’t get an oil change right at 3k miles. He proceeded to tell me I didn’t need an appointment and to call him if the issues continue. Why he thinks I would ever want to work with him again is beyond me. He spoke to me like I was ignorant and below him. After I decided to stand up for myself and speak to him belittling like he spoke to me, he thought the best thing to do would be to raise his voice to me. He finally made me an appointment after I was persistent and repeated myself 4 times that I wanted to still make an appointment. The fact that he is a “senior” service consultant is beyond me. I’m hopeful he doesn’t train current employees as well as new hires.
Brett just sold me a 2019 Honda Accord sport and I truly couldn’t be happier with the Experience that he provided. There was a few hiccups but none that was in his control and he did the absolute best to navigate through those. Buying a car for me was an overwhelming stressful situation but he managed to have the patience to talk me through every single detail about the loan about the car and about the warranty that I was purchasing… thanks!!!
The sales and service department are great. Ive bought 2 cars from Carmax, and will definitely get my next from them. The last time I purchased from them was actually a Honda. It was a really nice car, but it just was the one for me. I contacted Carmax to let them know that I didnt like the car. They let me return it for the car that I did want with no hassle. I never felt pressured at the dealership and I never felt like I got a bad deal. I got great cars and great prices. Oh and the cars were all in A-1 condition and never gave me.any issues outside of basic maintenance.
CarMax is an extremely clean, useful, and cost-effective place to sell/ buy cars. They have lots of employees on the shift we went to so there were no long lines. They were helpful with the title and transactional stuff. We were told we had to take our title to the BMV to transfer the car, which was told to us last minute. They left us a card to contact a specific person to help us. The interior of the store is clean and looks better than most new car dealerships. The employees are also very helpful and nice!
Appraisal process was simple and easy, pleased with the cash amount offered on my car. Ashlei in appraisals was very kind and efficient.Accepting the offer was simple, however it took a long time to process the paperwork from the initial timeframe I had been given (35 min vs +2 hrs in reality.) I couldnt tell if they were short staffed or extremely busy that day, but a more accurate wait time would have been very helpful. Antonio in the business office was very kind despite a seemingly chaotic afternoon.Would overall recommend.
We wanted to sell an extra vehicle. We did some preliminary work online to receive an estimated offer. Then we came in. The store is clean and bright with lots of cheerful staff. After an appraiser looked over our car and confirmed the information I provided online, we walked out with a check in hand. The whole process took about 75 minutes. I recommend you give CarMax a chance if you are trying to sell a car but dont want to mess with classified or online ads.
It was a very pleasant experience. Everyone was friendly and efficient. The facility was clean, the chairs were comfortable, and the entire place was very spacious. I was pleased with my trade-in offer. My only surprise was the condition of the restroom that needs an update. One toilet was not working and one sink had tape over it, so it was not working either. But, I was not in there long and it did not dampen my experience too much.
The salesman was very nice. Everything went very well. I noticed when I was taken to my car that it was very dirty. I was waiting to do the paperwork for at least an hour. I figured it would at least be clean. Also after I washed it I found written in sharpie on the fender sand and buff.
I have never had such a great experience when getting a new car. Each customer advocate was very knowledgeable and supportive. They made the long car buying experience short and straight to the point. My customer specialist Shamilla was professional and knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend CarMax to family and friends.

That never happened. In and out with a check for the full amount in one hour. No hassles, no haggling. Everyone was super nice during the process!!
Customer Service was not the best at all. We were promised times and they were never fulfilled properly. One worker named Ashlei was super nice and helpful but others I worked with certainly were not. Nothing was organized or precise. As far as selling the car, they did honor the price which I was very grateful for. In my opinion they need to rethink some of their staff. Not many were professional nor polite. The experience would have been 10x better if professionalism was in effect.

Run from this store, day 1 made an appointment arrived 45 minutes early didn’t get to speak with a sales representative for almost 1.5 after my scheduled appointment. I purchased the vehicle on 8/21 and Im still waiting to get the documents so I can register the vehicle. Today I spoke with someone from customer service and was told to give her 48 hrs to try and get a resolution, she tried to get in touch with the store (Indianapolis) and was unable to. Its bad when your own company can get a hold of someone. Going to give 1 star because cant rate 0 but I would.
I got a great car. However, I drove 3+ hours to pick it up and when I got there it had hail damage. They said I could make an appointment to come get it fixed free of charge. They also said they would fill up my gas tank. However, it would have been nice if they told me about the hail damage and fixed it before I came to pick up the car. That way I wouldnt have to drive 6+ hours round trip to get it fixed.
I bought a 2021 vehicle with 17K and it is perfect. I made an appointment to negotiate/test drive and I was never pressured (unlike the 2 new car dealerships I went to), and the salesman and person who helped me close were professional and very eager to help. Trade in value was MUCH more than other dealerships offered and all I had to pay was $2K (difference in trade in & extended warranty). Only issue was I wasnt able to log into navigation and I had to go back and ask for help. Car max couldnt help (he referred me to dealer), but I figured that out on my own and all is good.

The whole carmax company is horrible!! Some employees are great, but the company and policies are trash! This specific carmax DOESNT SERVICE YOUR VEHICLE. the others will have you waiting weeks for service or wont answer the phone at all. And dont expect a call back. Ive called every carmax from Ohio to Indiana. 0 stars should be an option. I pay extra to get service from carmax. And its not available! I have to go to jiffy lube for a oil change and figure out how to switch the fuse on my own, find some random tire dude to plug my tire. I pay extra so I dont have to go to extra places. So I thought... carmax is a scam.
We were at the Indianapolis CarMax for several hours to buy a car that we had reserved. Every step of the process took an exceptionally long time, besides our 20 minute test drive. This is the fifth car weve bought from CarMax. We can buy cars straight from the dealership, but we choose CarMax because its usually such an easy process. This was a Tuesday in the middle of the day. I have no idea why it was so terrible. At one point, I would have just walked out, but we had already turned over our trade-in.
The shopping experience started online and worked great to see all the pictures. I had a truck shipped to Indy from Cincy - no charge! The truck was in great shape. They were very easy to work with and the buying process was quick and easy. Left off one star because the price was high compared to other prices. I didnt like it, but it wasnt absurd... so I paid it. Overall, I would shop there again.
While it was VERY busy we were acknowledged when we walked in, kept informed of the wait time and checked on during the wait. The staff was superb. Professional and friendly. This is the second time I have visited CarMax and both times the most pleasant car buying experience I have ever had. Love the no-haggling. Will probably never visit another car dealership.
I went in to look at a car and get mine appraised. Drove 45 minutes to look at a specific car that id been searching for. While I was test driving and trying to buy the car another customer put the car on hold online they said an hour ago when I had been there for almost 2. Apparently that means I now can’t purchase the car. Then they tried to get me to buy a more expensive car without the sunroof that I wanted. Would not recommend to anyone. Waisted time and gas only to be told I can’t buy the vehicle. This policy is terrible and unfair. Thanks for nothing.

The first vehicle I reserved wasn’t what I expected. The vehicle I finally settled for wasn’t that what I wanted but James worked with me and within 10 days he got me my beautiful Grand Cherokee for less than the jeep I first accepted. I’m happy that they kept working with me until I was satisfied.

Wait times can be slow because they are so busy but, the staff is excellent. Ernest was working with us and I highly recommend him. I would come back again. We purchased a car and then decided it was not a good fit the return was simple, no questions asked and helped us into another car being aware of our budget and our needs I never felt like they were trying to sell me something that I did not want. Also sold my sons car it was easy, they explain everything and overall we had a good experience.

The associates were all very nice. They had a good car for us on the lot. It did have a shaky steering wheel due to a warped rotor which they fixed while we did the financing paperwork. A couple weeks later it started shifting rough, which they also promptly fixed without charge, including loaner car. Ever since the car has been operating great and fits our needs perfectly.
I purchased a car online on Aug, 8th. We purchased airline tickets and picked the car up on Aug, 12th. The experience when we were there was extraordinary. We were told when we finished the deal that Car Max would be sending us the registration paperwork for our state in a few weeks and then we could walk that into the state office to register the car. Its now Sept 24th and we still have not received any paperwork. Nobody will answer the phone to help us and nobody will return an email. So I went to our local Car Max and explained what is happening. The person in the business office took my paperwork and attempted to contact the Indianapolis office. She too had no luck getting anyone to answer the phone. Not even a manager. She said she sent emails. If I do not get this resolved on Monday Sept 27th. I am taking my fight to my bank and tell them that Car Max automotive superstore with no hassle car deals has still not given us the registration for the car the bank financed. #frustrated #carmaxreviews

Well to start with we had a car on hold and the shipping process started and was told I would get a call the next day to finish and pay the shipping fee. When we didnt get the call, we called them and was told our car had been sold. It just happen that they had another one at our location same year and miles just different color but $1000 more. We were ankle to do it up same day. So that worked out. During our buying process at the location we dekker like we were a little rushed and things did not get explained very well. We had to remind them of the maxcare and they had to do the paper work all over again. We had no idea what page was our registration. The guy Andrew that took care of us said up front had only been on job 2 months. In my opinion he needs some more training and needs to slow down a little.

Everything went well but i had to pay off the balance to my car and i was charged twice. I was told the 1st payment was supposed to be canceled but when i got home i looked at my bank account and noticed i was changed twice. I have tried to talk to someone there but i was told I would receive a call back when the person in charge came back. Im still waiting on that call back

OUTSTANDING purchase experience! Had my AUDI delivered from Kansas City. Arrived within scheduled timeframe and without incident. Car is beautiful as pictured, all aspects of this transaction were smooth as glass. i could not be more pleased.
I arrived about 5 min. before my appointment time. Was helped right away and everyone was friendly. Provided the details of my vehicle. It was inspected. After the inspection they offered me the same price as estimated online. Getting the check probably took the longest.If youre only selling your car and will need a ride home you will need a friend or family member (or Uber) to pick you up. If theyre there about 45 - 60 min after your appointment time it should work out without them waiting for you for too long.
As of 7-4-2021 they do have a bunch of cars and trucks. We were very impressed with the quality and they some hard to find vehicles. I will post some so you dont need to walk the lot. Most will be SUVs.

Reserved a car on Thursday, Saturday aside time to drive about an hour met with a salesperson told her I had reserved a car . 15 minutes go by salesperson comes back says were still looking for the car, 20 min later salesperson is nowhere to be found . Walked out the door and no one even notice we left. What a waste of time . Still need a car but will not be purchasing from Carmax !

We had an appraisal offer, but an issue on the title, so we were told to come back when it was corrected. I found it odd that they wouldnt give us assurances in writing, but were given a verbal promise that the vehicle would be purchased once the title was in order.Fast forward a week, we expedited the title paperwork. When we showed up, the same employee from a week ago grabbed my paperwork, and disappeared without a word. 10 minutes later she appears, and tells us they wouldnt buy the car, despite what she herself had told me a week prior. When I politely reminded her of what she had promised, she told me that arguing wouldnt change anything.We spent 3 hours between the 2 visits, as well as money for the expedited title paperwork, only to have a CarMax employee blatantly lie and backtrack on a promise, and to not accept a perfectly valid appraisal offer. Throughout the whole process said employee was rude and unprofessional. How someone could be working in a customer-oriented role with such poor customer relationship skills is beyond me. Her actions and behavior would not be acceptable at any business, in any industry.
This facility was excellent, and the car rates were extremely cheap.
Very customer focused and friendly. I was extremely surprised with the minimal amount of time it took to complete the entire transaction. I will recommend your services to family members.
It really was not that good. Everything seemed to be fine picking the car online and getting approved for the loan over the phone but then when we arrived to sign the paperwork and get the car my last name was spelled wrong with the application over the phone so they had to run my credit again and then they left my wife off the application the second time so they had to run it again which ended up costing me points on my credit score and to top it all off one of the key fobs we discovered had a dead battery when we got home so overall not good
This was my 4th time dealing with Carmax. As a repeat customer, I expected the experience to be way better than what my husband & I experienced this go round. Called ahead of time to do most of the transaction before hand so we could do a curbside pick up due to conditions & 2 small children. Sales rep over the phone said he set everything up as planned, however, once we got to the store everything went down hill. We waited almost 45 minutes & watched several associates walk by without greeting us before I finally decided to go in and see what was going on as we were on a time constraint as well. After finally getting someone in the store, I find out not only did the salesperson over the phone not set up our appointment, he also did not spell my husband’s name correctly on the credit application AFTER us sending him my husband’s ID for verification. So we had to go through the entire process all over again. It was a horrible experience & I was very disappointed.
Troy was a wonderful salesperson. The call center told me that the documents I had for my trade in vehicle were acceptable, but when we got to the business center on site they informed me that they were not. I was immediately very disappointed because it could have been another 30 days before I received the document they would typically accept, and there was no way the Jeep I had chosen would still have been available. Troy, along with the management of the business center and the GM, worked to find a way for the documents I had in my possession to accomplish what needed to be done. I am forever grateful and love driving my new Jeep! Thanks Carmax Indy!!
Knew what I wanted. Found car, took a wk to get it to Indy. Looked at it, liked it. Drove it, loved it. Paid cash. Easy peasy.
