I have had a long-term association with U-Box Moving & Storage of Hayward, California. Just last week I needed to arrange for a cross-country delivery of several storage containers from California to my new residence in Florida. I was not looking forward to what I thought would be a lengthy interaction to complete this transaction. However, I am happy to report that this was made very easy by Alex at the Hayward facility. I had the opportunity to work with her last summer and was impressed by her knowledge and capability in arranging for my needs at that time. So when it was Alex that I was put in contact with this time, I was very happy because I felt I was in competent hands. Even when her initial quote for the cost of the move changed in the system for some reason to a higher quote, Alex went to bat for me with their shipping department, and after some effort on her part was successful in securing the original lower quote. I recommend the Hayward location of U-Box Moving and Storage for both their management and support staffs, all with whom I have had a very positive association over several years.

The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the service I received from Philip and Alfonso after the fact....but unfortunately my issues had to be taken to a managerial level and took almost 2 months to reconcile....front line staff need better customer service training

I rented a U-Box at my local U-Haul store and was told it would be available for me to pack through Sunday (confirmed by 2 people on the phone, in an email, and in my account page). However when I went to load my stuff it was gone. When my local store looked it up in their system it showed the box was still there, so they called U-Box Hayward and found out they had picked it up early by mistake. Haywards manager said they would not do anything to fix it (not that there was nothing they could do, just that they wouldnt because it would be too much trouble). She went on to explain WHAT AN INCONVENIENCE IT WOULD BE TO HER and her crew to bring the box back. They advised my to either drive 1.5 hours one way to them to load my stuff or rent another U-Box (both at my own expense). So now Im paying to ship a half empty U-Box and most of my belongings are still sitting in my apartment. I called Hayward, the regional office, and the 800 number 6 times, and no one has offered to help or try and fix the situation.

I wish I could give them negative stars, because I would. This has been hands down the most horrible customer service experience Ive ever had. Since shipping my stuff two weeks ago my husband and I have collectively spent 12 hours getting tossed around between 20+ different U-Haul/U-Box representatives both at this location and nationally to get a simple question answered: where are my U-boxes. Ive received more than 15 completely different answers as to where in the country the contents of my entire apartment are. U-haul as a company has a completely decentralized process and no one knows what they are talking about, nor is anyone on the same page. On top of all that, the driver of our U-box attempted to drop off our stuff at a location in San Francisco that does not accept U-Box deliveries. After being turned away from that location, we were told our stuff was being sent to this location however, after three days it is still not at the location and no one seems to be able to tell us where it is. So that leads me to a second question: how does it take more than 3 days to drive 36 minutes from San Francisco to Hayward? On top of all of this, they charged thousands of dollars on the wrong card and after speaking with an additional 10-15 people they are still unable to reverse the charges because no one has access to do so. Third question: how is it possible for individuals at the company to have access to charge my card thousands of dollars, yet not a single person has the ability to reverse a charge and put it on the appropriate card. We even deleted the original card from the system, but they somehow still found a way to charge it. Something about that seems a little off. I wish I had time to go into more detail on the matter, because trust me it gets worse, but unfortunately Ive already wasted and entire two days worth of time I will never get back.

My stuff was accidentally sent here instead of Texas (longer story). When I called here to make sure I wasnt going to be charged again, the customer service person was extremely rude. When I asked for a manager, she was yelling at me, and then transferred me.The manager came on the phone, didnt say hi or anything, and said you will not be charged a second time. I thanked her, hung up, and a week or so later I was charged by them. I then had $1200+ tied up for about a week while I had to navigate through the Dantes Inferno-type customer service U-Haul offers.If you do use them, make sure you use a credit card. Had I used my check card, my account would have been overdrawn for a week, and I know I would have then had to involve lawyers to get that all settled. All to get my stuff back! For a service I paid for in up front, in full!!

We currently have three boxes that we canceled sitting in our front yard for over 24 hours they keep promising to come get them and refund us and every time we call after the promised time frame no one sees anything on record. My husband keeps getting bounced around to various representatives and supposed supervisors saying things will be taken care of and yet here we are. They did not provide the pads as promised in the quote, so there is no way to properly pack the boxes and not have our things safely transferred. As it is the boxes are cheap plywood that are shredding and held together by staples. The tarps won’t stay on and are flapping in the breeze, these boxes are junk....how would they protect from elements or pests during storage? Upon reading many reviews, how can I even trust that we’d get our things delivered to our new address? We can’t even get a pads, phone calls returned or them to properly document issues. They can’t even come pick up a cancelled order.Never ever again.

I have used Ubox as a storage facility since before the company was purchased by Uhaul. I have had them bring boxes to my house and I have gone to their facility to access my boxes. The local staff are great and courteous. You are able to drive your vehicle inside the warehouse immediately next to your box (you have to call days in advance and make an appointment so they bring your box out) This is so much better than a typical storage warehouse where you have to haul your belongings to and from the unit.I would feel comfortable using them for a local move.Based on the other reviews I would be hesitant to use Ubox for a long distance move since you would need to deal with national Uhaul/Ubox.My review is for the local Hayward facility only and I give them a solid 5 star rating.
