Joe was great. He delivered fantastic customer service for the purchase of our beautiful slightly used Honda Accord. No haggling over prices or warranties or GAP. He showed us our options and let us choose. Very upfront about how they do credit pulls as I did not want my credit hit more than once. CarMax does not share your information or sell so no other finance company will be calling me after this completed purchase, which happened when I purchased with Crystler Dodge Jeep & Ram. I highly recommend this location and Joe, if I dont steal him to come work at my company!

This was my first carmax experience and I think it went pretty well. I had a car transferred from Virginia to this location and that was easy. I only got $1,000 for my trade in versus the $1,600 appraisal I received online the week before so I had to put up $600 in cash which I was a little frustrated about but I totally get it. The only thing I’d say I didn’t care for was the fact that we could not test drive the car we were about to purchase. I feel like you should definitely be able to test drive something as big and expensive as a vehicle! The first time we drove it was on the way home after we bought it. The salesman who worked with us was really nice. They do try to push maxcare and I’m assuming because they get a commission off of each sale that includes the extended warranty but I also understand that. I was so excited to get my new car and say goodbye to my old one. I will definitely recommend carmax to family and friends looking to buy a nice pre owned vehicle.

Overall disappointed. I was paying cash for a vehicle and the total transaction took over 7 hours. The staff was very friendly and was trying to help but seemed limited by systems and policies. During my test drive I noticed some things that needed attention, cosmetically, with the vehicle. I brought these items up and after the lengthy transaction, realized they had not been addressed. The vehicle is great, but since returning home with it I have found multiple french fries, lip balm, a hair bow, and an empty prescription medication container and an unused hygiene product. Given the current demand and price for used cars (paid $50K for a used truck), I would expect better attention to be given to the state of the vehicles. Again, I did have the vehicle fully inspected at a local dealership after purchasing and the vehicle is great, but disappointed with the details.

Everyone was so helpful. I was told someone would call me the following week to set up an appointment to repair a scratch. I received a call Monday morning and the scratch was repaired at no cost to me, by the end of the week. Excellent customer service!

I recently purchased a 2017 Chevy Silverado from this CarMax location. I love the vehicle however very displeased when i noticed the drivers side tire was extremely low on tread and even had dry rot cracks around the tire but yet the back tires were brand new!. When i brought this to their attention they told me repeatedly that it passes inspection. I don’t think it could have passed inspection but regardless it’s very upsetting when you spend a large amount of money like i did and they can’t simply replace one tire which could be a serious and potentially dangerous hazard. Did not make me feel comfortable as a customer that they would allow me to drive off the lot with a tire like that.

Wouldn’t wish my experience of buying a car with a trade-in on my worst enemy. This has to be the most horrible dealership to deal with in all of North Carolina. Just as an example, it took me asking 12 times (that’s not exaggerated, I actually counted) for them to clean the dried up food and make up stains on the “brand new” vehicle I was purchasing. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone to drive however long it takes to go to another CarMax. However long the drive is, I promise you it will still be faster than dealing with anyone there.

Fairly easy process selling my car. Quick appraisal and offer that matched online quote. Young lady that handled the purchase was inexperienced, but worked hard to keep the process moving forward. She did a great job in getting everything completed quickly. In and out with bank draft in hand within 1.5 hours even though that location was very busy.

Frustrating at best, incompetence abounds. The check from my bank arrived by FedEx the day before I was scheduled to pick up my truck. Why wasnt the truck ready for me? Why was it in the back 40 filthy. Why did they call the wrong bank for the current payoff ? Why couldnt they find the check? When they had me wait while they were on hold with my bank and I took it upon myself to call my bank get to the banks business office and hand the phone to your incompetent financial people. Why did I have to wait from 11:30am until 4pm . Horrible frustrating experience

I knew what car I wanted, another Hyundai Sonata, so I went to the Carmax website, searched for some, and set up an email alert. Within a week I found a great car in great shape, just a couple years old, with low mileage and lots of features. I called the store to put a hold on it, and went right down there. Did a test drive, loved it, and completed the purchase 3 days later. I got an extended warranty with it. I had my own pre-approved financing.My salesman, Bob, was great, especially since I came during evening hours, and they were going to be closing in about an hour.On purchase day, the office staff were good with the paperwork-prompt and proficient.The only part of the experience that needs improvement is: when I called the store on that first day, I actually got connected to a call center. So they we not on site to verify the car was still there, nor could they place the hold for me--they had to pass along a message to the store staff. I would have rather talked to the local store staff myself to begin with.

My experience was terrible. I went in to purchase the car I wanted. I test drove it first and Nicholas Richardson just handed me the keys and said be back in 30 minutes without going over the features of the car. When I returned I asked him about the car features, his response was let me go on You tube. I don’t think that is the response you give to a client purchases a car. Throughout the entire process of purchasing my car, I would ask him questions that he did not know the answer to. When all the paperwork was completed and I was ready to drive away with my car, the car wasn’t cleaned. It was dust all over the back seats and dash board. I’ve never received that type of service at the Car Max on independence Blvd. I will never go back to the Gastonia location

For the most part, I had a very smooth experience buying my first car with Carmax. The only thing I did not enjoy was feeling violated the day I actually went to sign and pick up my vehicle. The young lady helping me was trying to verify my routing number for my bank account, and she was literally going through my online bank account (even after verifying the last 4 of my account number and physically seeing the down payment in my account). After finally asking someone for help, all she had to do was Google the information. There was no apologies for this, and it really made me feel some type of way. My own mother has never combed through my bank account the way she did.

I purchased my vehicle here about three months ago. Starting around the second month of having it the check engine light came on. I went to get it check and apparently there’s a problem with my transmission. I don’t understand why they would sell me a car knowing it’s has problems. I tried calling them to get it fix but the service desk is not open on the weekends which is a very big inconvenience for me considering I work I full time job during the week and have kids to take care of after work. By far the worst experience I have ever had with purchasing a vehicle and I don’t recommend anyone to purchase a vehicle here.

I would never buy a car again in carmax gastonia, it is the worst agency in NC, I have 3 months with my car and the air conditioning does not work and they tell me that I have to wait 16 days for it to be repaired, the temperatures are so high today, How is it possible that they believe that I can be so many days without air when I am paying for maxcare and it is useless, the battery does not work I am in the carmax agency parking lot and no one wanted to help me with the battery of my car, after taking my car to the Mechanic told me that the oil was very burned as if it had never been changed, I think that since the first owner used it, the air filter was very dirty full of garbage, my mechanic told me that the car is a year 2017 is too much soon for this spoiled air it is definitely the worst experience I have ever had, I will never buy from this place again and I would not recommend it to anyone. I will certainly warn my friends never to buy from this place if they want to avoid bad disgust and waste. of time and waste of money

I paid to have a car transferred, and once the car arrived I was told that it had not. Once the car was ready the call center let me know and I went down to the Gastonia store. I was told it was too late to buy the car or look at it and asked to leave. At this moment I heard a manager tell the salesperson that turned me away who let her know its here? His tone was rude, and made me uneasy. I did come back early the next day and purchased the car. My experience with Paul my salesman was wonderful. Also the call center fellow was super nice and helpful. Its just the manager at your Gastonia store that made me feel unwelcome. Im not sure what he was trying to pull, turning me away twice, and lying to me about when the car got there and when it would be available. Two other salesmen also lied to me before I asked for Paul to be my salesman. Im sure CarMax as a company is great but Im concerned about integrity at your Gastonia office.

I had researched the many makes and models of cars on the CarMax website previously and pretty much new what I wanted. I saw that there was a home delivery option and thought that would be perfect considering my situation. My salesman Chong was amazing. We told him the vehicles we had been looking at. He went through the inventory. We selected 6 vehicles and each and everyone. Chong went through the car fax reports making sure no accidents and where they came from. When it was time for the finance dept. Chong let us know how many was in front of us. The sales person immediately told me that I had to limit test drives to 2 cars. I am not ok with that when considering a nearly $40k purchase. I understand the concern with COVID but I don’t think it’s fair to limit a customer in their decision making process. While I appreciate the ease of the purchase process, I am not happy to be forced into choosing what two vehicles I’m interested in. The point of CARMAX is a wide and varied selection.

Everything about the experience at carmax was good for us. The only complaint that I have is that the vehicle was not detailed as we were told it would be. There was still debris in the bed of the truck and the interior wasn’t even wiped down. There were remnants of what appeared to dog slobber on the seats that wasn’t even wiped off. We agreed to purchase the vehicle on a Sunday and retuned the following evening to complete the process. That should have been ample time to prepare the vehicle. We were very disappointed with that aspect but everything else was good.

I ordered a car from another Carmax site and the local site could not locate car for hours. I was told car could be delivered to home but was told later that was not possible. I was shifted around from one customer service person to the next and each one had new information.At one point, the manager had a new employee give me a call because no one else wanted to give bad news so they made poor new guy do this. I was also told that my car would be ready for curbside pick up then received call that was not the case.There was absolutely no apology given by anyone and it was the worst experience of my life!

I completed everything online which included the loan acceptance. I scheduled a curbside pickup. The number at curbside didnt connect to the office. I had to go inside and repeat everything I had done online. This took nearly 2 hours and I was not pleased. I did however get the car that I wanted.

Really good experience. There are only a few things i think could have been better. When i told him i have no budget and what i was looking for, he just grabbed the first suv that sorta matched. It wasnt until we looked the lot and find another in the same price point with WAY more features and considered luxury. Thats when we found our suv. Then they didnt top off the tank and didnt thoroughly clean the inside. And i have to take both fobs in for service bc one doesnt work at all and the other keeps givinga dead signal even though we changed the battery.o know it sounds like a lot,but the salesman was nice and the purchase process itself was pretty easy.

Car was advertised to have all 4 tires replaced since the previous tires didnt meet Carmaxs standards. This was one of the selling points brought to me by Allen Whitaker (who now is retired) on several occasions during the sales process. This was back in mid February, fast forward to the end of July and the car had to get towed to the dealer for some warranty work. To my surprise, the service advisor came out and let me know that the tires have less than half life left and showed feathering, recommending replacement sooner rather than later. Ive yet to put 2000 miles on the car so its not like I put the wear and tear on the tires, they just werent replaced as Carmax said they were. It should be noted that when I did take delivery of the car, they claim the car goes through a multipoint inspection yet when I opened the hood and tried to familiarize myself with the car and where the battery goes as well as both air filters. I found that both air filters were extremely dirty, at the time, Ive driven the car less than 50 miles. Also found the coolant reservoir to be extremely low. I took the car into Carmax and after several hours of waiting, they took care of it. Sure they apologized at the time, but this was something that should have been taken care off while they did the multipoint inspectionCarmax needs to take care of the issue at hand and deliver as advertised, all 4 tires need to be replaced like Carmax had it posted.ps. dont expect much to be done when talking with David Wynkoop, sales manager, even when he tells you that hell get back to you, youll find yourself reaching out to him to remind him about your issue... unless youre buying a car, then Im sure hell get back to you very quickly.

Well, the process of getting the vehicle I wanted started off good. From the process online to the representative I spoke to over the to find the car I wanted and get approved for financing, was quite pleasant. After that, it all fell apart!!! To start off, I was given a specific date and time to pick up the vehicle for the initial 24hr test drive. So I arrive on that date and time only to be told the vehicle and not yet been delivered. It was still in Wilmington NC, which is 4+ hrs away from the Gastonia store!!! I never received an e-mail, call or text to let me know. The car was eventually delivered the next day, but the title was STILL IN WILMINGTON!!!....I gave up after that. Very poor communication and even worse service all around.

Bought a car there almost 3 months ago and paid cash. Still havent received the tag or title for the car. The car is just sitting (they did provide a loaner) while we wait for Carmax from another state to respond to Carmax Gastonias EMAILS. The car was advertised to have clear title, but now theres supposedly a problem with the information recorded on the title when the car was purchased in another state. Complaints have been filed with the DMV inspector and State Attorney Generals office. This is ridiculous.

If I could give zero stars I would!! I’ve purchased several cars from the Gastonia CarMax and I guess as long as there are no issues with the car you will be fine! They definitely don’t have the same “VIGOR” and Customer Service as they did when selling me the car!! My latest vehicle was purchased less than a year ago and I’ve had nothing but trouble ever since. I attempted to get service on the car today and the customer service reps response told the entire story.....CarMax couldn’t care less about my issue!! The option to receive service was to wait nearly two weeks or take the car to a dealership 30 miles away. This situation turned negative fairly quickly. What is worse is that the Operations Manager who decided to “intervene” was absolutely no better! Bottom line, I’m glad I made the wise choice to purchase an extended warranty. I know they couldn’t care less, but I WILL NEVER PURCHASE AT THIS DEALERSHIP AGAIN!

Frustrating experience trying to sell Carmax a car. Purchased a car from a friend who was moving out of the country to help them out and planned to re-sell immediately without tagging. Long story short I had multiple trips to Carmax and in the final trip they refused to close the purchase deal they offered because the new title in my name had a 50 mile difference in the actual mileage on the odometer. They were really trying to help us out but I feel like the Explorer that we got was basically push onto us. I needed a car quick because of my job requires me to have a vehicle. We wanted an explorer but no light interior(cause of the kids)and upgraded features(rearview camera etc...) So since we had to wait for the one we wanted to be transfer, the sales person suggested us to get one now and we have 5 days to exchanged it...But that wasnt the case, yes we did have five days but was not aware that the banks would then denied it or make us pay a bigger down payment... If we would have known that I would have just went to a different dealership period and never got the one that I have now...they definitely need better communication and I would have just returned the truck but was not aware it takes a week for my money to be refunded ...So I guess we will have to spend more money to get the things we want in our truck!!!Thanks anyway!

The car buying experience was easy and made simple. I was happy to leave with my car the same day as purchase. However, the salesman I worked with called both myself and my wife dumb when we had opted out for the CarMax maxcare. We ended up choosing to proceed with it only because we felt pressured to and felt like we would be insulted again if we chose not.
