Our family went in October of 2021 and enjoyed our time there. It was quiet and peaceful when we arrived at 10am on a Sunday. We were expecting a little more in terms of flowers but that may be because of our recent visit to Atlanta Botanical Gardens.Definitely worth a visit - make sure to spend some time among all the bamboo. So quiet and cool!$10 entry charge as of October 2021.
Gorgeous botanical garden which blew away my expectations, and had far more things blooming than I expected to see this time of year. Very very Zen atmosphere. Tons of varieties of bamboo and tropicals, and the giant lily pond was just stunning. So was the Bamboo forest. A few hills were tough for walkers or wheelchairs, but there are many places to rest. However long you think you may want to spend here, double or triple the time allotment...youll need it. SO MUCH to see. Very impressive.
Beautiful place and great to visit all different times of the year! Everything blooms at different times, so you can come once a season and always be seeing different things. Beautiful layout with nice walking paths (wheelchair friendly) & beautifully manicured gardens. Highly recommend bringing some mosquito spray and heading over!
Remember Bug Spray! Seriously. These gardens are a treat for the senses. Take a trip through bamboo forests and learn the names of common and exotic plants. Because I forgot the bug spray, as we got closer to 5pm close, I was running by with my camera to see everything and not get eaten alive. One pause to focus the camera and theyre on you.
What an amazing garden. I attended the orchid show and sale. Very nice people, prices were high, but this is the future. Rising prices everywhere. No exception. Great place to take children to learn about plants. Quite difficult to push a wheelchair through with so many sandy areas. Just a beautiful nature escape.
We were visiting from Athens, Ga where we have a very nice, well maintained free botanical gardens. We found this botanical gardens to be mediocre. The grounds are spacious but compared to others we have visited, they do not appear to be meticulously maintained. Weeds growing in cracks, mulch that needs to be replaced, edging that needs to be done, etc. At $10 per person entrance fee, it seems steep for what you are receiving. Some of the bonus points would go to the colorful flowers in the butterfly garden and some of the fun flowers and plants that are in the childrens garden that are very creatively displayed.
Beautiful, lush gardens that exhibit some of the best of Floridas flowers and greenery as well as beautiful specimens from around the world. We had a fun time playing name the plant and then seeing if we were right. It was a great way to spend the morning and I cant wait to come back in other seasons to see what else blooms.
Such a quaint garden! It’s very cute and decently well maintained. It has more of a family maintained feel than a large, faceless garden. And I mean that in a good way! The place has personality. It’s not absolutely perfect with everything in straight lines. Sometimes the paths can be a bit confusing as to which way you should go, but that’s what nature is about, isn’t it? I genuinely felt like I was exploring the gardens and wasn’t just following a predetermined path. And some of the presentations, while borderline unusual, were quite amusing.
Nice quiet place. Bring bug spray the mosquitos are huge. The pond was beautiful with huge Lilly pads. A baby alligator was napping on one.
Great location and fun trails. Its largely (though not entirely) wheel chair accessible (which is understandable given what they are). They have a beautifully curated selection of plants.
Very zen, beautiful grounds and easy to follow paths. We drove from Spring Hill 1 hour 45 minutes away so happy we did.
Lovely spot to spend an afternoon. We enjoyed the water garden and childrens garden the most. We observed butterflies and a hummingbird in the butterfly garden.
It was so gorgeous and a 10 out of 10 to visit! It was well jept by courteous and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our time there!
A gorgeous oasis in the middle of Gainesville, Kanapaha offers both the educational experience of seeing hundreds if not thousands of unique and interesting plants from around the world, and the ambiance of a zen garden. Although the best time to go is definitely in the late spring when many of the flowers are in bloom, I can attest that it is a pretty place to go year round.
Walking paths wind through lovely gardens and around water features and ponds filled with koi and turtles. A very nice place to spend a morning or to picnic. Dog friendly (leashed), which was a plus for us.
This was a great place! Lots of different Camellias and Azaleas in bloom. Great easy pathways Meandering in and around areas. Shaded with beautiful trees. Bamboo shading as well. Naming tags for most of the plants was nice. Water gardens and water areas mice to sit by. A childrens play area.
Really beautiful gardens. It was crazy hot the day that we went, but most of the paths were shaded. Highly recommend!
A beautiful, elegant showcasing of various flora and fauna in the garden. It was quite the magical experience that was thoroughly, genuinely enjoyed by my boyfriend and I. Will definitely come back for more, especially if they have an event for the stage!
Its beautiful, maybe when its not super hot outside and plants are more in bloom it would be a nice place for a picknick
Best words to describe Kanapaha: Serene and beautiful. The garden has two parts, water and flower and can be toured in about 2 hours. It is reminiscent of a temple with statues placed in strategic places. It is family friendly with a garden for kids but they do not provide information about the plant species.
Park ran on business hours only, on weekdays. Sorry to anyone who works weekend or evening hours. Other than that it looks like it should be a very pretty afternoon. There is much needed park maintenance right out front but it seems managed. Im not sure, I was turned away at 4:40. I thought most parks close at dusk.
Beautiful place! So many different areas to see! Enjoyed my day here, would definitely recommend, very relaxing!
Wonderful first experience! Truly beautiful and magical place!
Beautiful 🌺💐🐦but running away from 🦟 ruin it. Wear long sleeves🧥, pants 👖, closed toes shoes 👟if you dont want to get bitten by mosquitoes. Would be so much better if theres directions ➡️to restrooms🚽 and the exit every where.
I probably doing go there at the right time. There was not a lot of flowers to see. But the garden generally is nice.
Great experience, even on a semi rainy day. Looking forward to coming back!
Great visit at the annual orchid and plant sale.
Pretty nice gardens! You will see tons of species of plants, trees, flowers, cactuses, and mini waterfalls and a ground cover maze! Dont get lost! 😂 $10 for adults and $5 for kids. They do have a picnic table area, but theres also another section of open field where you can picnic on the ground, bring your blanket. Please be mindful to respect the plants, do not carve into the bamboo. Be sure to walk over the bridge to see the many koi fish, theyre gorgeous! Nice place for walking and yes, you can bring your dog(s)! You will need a mask to enter into the botanical center to purchase tickets and/or check out the gift shop. Enjoy!
Nice and peaceful. Approximately 1½-2 miles of walking track. Loved the koi fish pond.
Annual orchid show and free entry. Cant be beat.
Great experience, its like going to a nice zoo without the animals.
Such a worthwhile place to visit. So much to see and very well kept. Highly recommended!
Absolutely worth the $10 per person. Plan to spend a couple hours, at least. I do recommend going when its cooler outside. This will be best to avoid pesty mosquitos. While many of the plant varieties have died back due the cooler weather, there is still so much beauty to take in. I think its a few miles of walking, but mostly a concrete path. So much bamboo. So beautiful. If you like, plan to bring an offering for one of the Buddha statues. Bring lunch. Have a picnic at one of the many benches, gazebos or bring a blanket and set up in the bamboo or many other welcoming spots throughout this little piece of paradise.
Beautiful garden. Highly recommend going.
This is an excellent place to spend the day exploring nature. Highly recommended!!!
This place is well maintained, beautifully laid out, labeled so efficiently. We loved it.
Beautiful place. You can spend hours here with nature.
Lovely place to take a leisurely stroo, so much to see. Beautiful bamboo garden and interesting medicinal plants atea.
Very relaxing atmosphere. No bugs bothering us at the time my husband and I went. Lots of different plants to look at and make memories with. Will definitely go again.
More of a park setting rather than a strong focus on botany. Beautiful to take a walk on the well maintained paths that lead through interesting areas such as a hummingbird garden, an herb garden and a children’s garden. A good place to slow down and unwind. Five stars because it offers a lot to see for only $10 admission.
Not the best gardens out there, but worth the trip very zinful, and beautiful
Beautiful place!!! Please visit in either spring or summer, as most things are in bloom!! Will visit again!
Amazing views, even in fall when most werent in bloom. Looking forward to coming back in spring 🌸
Beautiful and well kept! Many many species from Asia and Africa! A bamboo garden, a spices garden, plenty gazebos, intimate cascades... a must...
Awesome place to visit, lovely walk looking at all the beautiful area
Loved that this site is handicap accessible! Clear walkways and walkers/wheelchairs available for use. Probably much more colorful in the spring, but still lots to see. Even has a playground for the kids.
This is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens. Lots of beautiful flowers. Bamboo and even an herb garden . I can’t wait to take my family there .
Beautiful, it would take a whole day or more to see everything, if I lived in Gainesville I would definitely have an annual pass, only downside is the gift shop is, as expected, very pricey.
Incredible gardens that are well tended, but still manage to feel as if nature placed them there. These are not the typical estate gardens one might find elsewhere. The main trails are wheelchair accessible, though smaller footpaths are abundant. Be sure to bring bug repellent during the rainy months.
Beautiful gardens to venture through for an afternoon, Large assortment of plant life.
So fun and picturesque! The gardens are huge! Definitely take a stroll through their bamboo forest and prepare to be there for a while if you want to see it all.
Such a magical place with a massive variety of flowers and a plants indigenous to the tropical Florida climate. Takes about 2-3 hours to tour the entire place if you like taking pictures like I do. Highly recommended if visiting the Gainesville area.
An absolute pleasure to walk around and see many different varieties of plants. You should definitely visit throughout the year to take advantage of whats in bloom. A must see spot in Gainesville.
Was a nice peaceful place to take the kids. They do have a little area for them to play. We fed the fish and had a nice walk. Only 4 stars cause they could do a little fixin up and it would be nice to have some picnic areas and restrooms out on the walk.
One of my favorite places in Gainesville after todays visit. The bamboo is amazing along with so many other trees, plants, and flowers. I highly recommend a visit here.
A very huge and clean botanical garden. Admission fee is $10. It has a nice gift shop as well. Except to spend around 2 hours there. It’s a really lovely walk, you get to see different plants. I wish they had more flowers tho. Overall a nice experience.
Great place to visit for a short walk around the gardens or to learn the names of plants we see everyday. I like it so much I volunteer here!
Great but bug alert.. Mosquitoes had a huge feast on me. But if you can duck that its an amazing place green lush scenery, large chessboard with huge chess pieces kids love it. The fishes and giant lily pads are awesome to watch. Bring water and its dog friendly.
Beautiful peaceful place for socially distant walks in nature. Were in our 3rd year living in gainesville, and have had a membership for over 2. Wonderful place!
Really cool place. So much to see and well kept grounds. So many different species and interesting plants and trees. We saw most of it in one day but well be definitely going back .
Its a tropical botanical garden. The entrance fee is really low and affordable. Wide variety of fauna and flora. Be aware of snakes though and walk cautiously . Visit before 4 so you dont encounter mosquitos in the summer.
Fantastic botanical gardens. Good diversity and care of flora. For travelers, its a good mix of eastern and western gardens
Very pretty place to walk and relax at would recommend, Worth the money and the time to travel down there.
Very beautiful is a must see if you around here you will enjoy
The staff was wonderful. Very helpful and cheerful. The grounds are amazing! I love the individual little gardens. The weather was perfect the day we went, Mothers Day. I look forward to returning and plan on getting season passes. I hope the bridge that was flooded out is accessible next time. It looked enchanting. There is even a childrens area.
Such a beautiful and peaceful place with a variety of plants and wildlife. Loved it even with the rain!
Amazing place. It is a very quiet place to get out and see nature. This is a place I would go back to for sure
Definitely go here. You will not be let down. BRING YOUR OWN BUG SPRAY. they do sell bug spray there but for an arm and a leg. This place is magical.
Enjoyed my visit tremendously. Beautiful venue, great variety of plants and trees. Loved the pond with the giant waterlilies. Spent 4 hours there and will return. Visitor center has an amazing gift store. Clean bathrooms. Very friendly service. It was the highlight of a 3 day visit to Gainesville.
Take a stroll through this beautiful place where you can see so many different kinds of plants its overwhelming. Ive never seen a banana plant before so I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite was the bamboo area by the herb garden. I loved standing in the middle, while the breeze blew through, hearing the clanking of the branches hitting each other! It was so healing. The baby gator and the coy fish were a special treat. What a beautiful place. I will definitely be back.
Beautiful and an excellent place to hike around and learn!
Surprised my wife with a trip here from Jacksonville since we had never been anywhere like it and it was well worth the drive! Beautiful plants, scenery was gorgeous, and the gift shop had some really cool stuff! Highly recommend!
The gardens were beautiful even in the Florida winter. I cant wait to come back in the spring, it will be even prettier.
One of my now happy places will visit again!
Beautiful place to visit! We unfortunately went on a rainy day so we didnt get to see all the beauty this place has to offer but it was still worth the trip! Definitely recommended if you are in the area!
These gardens are absolutely beautiful. Theres about 1.5-2 miles worth of walking paths with plants and statues everywhere. You wont have to look far to find a decorative bench or a gazebo to rest. Theres a cute playground and giant chessboard in the childrens garden. Huge koi in one of the main ponds, several small waterfalls, and a massive bamboo garden. This place is well worth the cost to get in.
Even with it lightly raining it was a great experience. Beautiful plants and nice way to walk around in nature.
Expansive gardens with great variety, all well maintained.
Beautiful plant specimen
This is a very relaxing place. Also great that you can bring dogs. You can also bring your own food and have a picnic. They are also encouraging proper covid 19 mitigation techniques. This is a good social distance activity.
Lovely gardens even being off season. Easy walk and enjoyable sights to see.
Beautiful, natural gardens. Nice walkways for those that need it. Bring your bug spray - its a must.
Beautiful and peaceful walk through a shaded garden. Just what I needed before a medical procedure tomorrow. Paved trails, childrens garden, sinkholes, butterfly garden, herb garden, azaleas, and so much more. And they allow dogs!
So much fun. Went with my friend and we loved it. So much room for pinicking!
This is a really nice place just make sure to check your expectations and bring bug repellent! There are some really lovely areas--especially the bamboo forest and by the bigger waterfall. Some parts feel more like a less-than-established community garden. Its clear there is no overall architecture to the plant life, its chopped up in several sections with varying degrees of effectiveness. I also say this as a non-gardener. If you are more of a home gardener yourself, you may find more here to enjoy than me. It was advised to me to do the west side (to the left) first because there is more shade on the loop side to the east. The west is where youll find the large lillypads and the bigger waterfall. To the east is the bamboo forest, a big sinkhole and other habitats to walk through on a sidewalk. There are lots and lots of gazebos everywhere and in general they make great spots for a photo shoot.
Beautiful grounds and gardens. The kids enjoyed the liliy pads the most in the water gardens.
Absolutely beautiful place. It is so worth it coming here to just get away from the crazy college town and to just relax with nature
ALWAYS a beautiful place to visit.
Wish the weather was better, but the gardens were beautiful.
Very beautiful. 62 acres of hundreds of different plants. Lovely waterfalls, bamboo forest, koi pond with Queen Victoria lily pads, herb gardens, and butterfly garden.
