I love this place theyve really taken over from Barnes and nobles. they have a lot of sales and the best thing of all..... Soft comfortable chairs!

BAM is OK. Well, as the only remaining big box bookstore in the Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc. mold, its pretty much all weve got in that style, OK or not.Which means lots of blockbusters, remnants, private label or off-brand publishers, including the rear wall of special interest magazines that mostly arent real, regularly published legit ongoing magazines.Also, due to its right-wing chain ownership, Books-A-Million has a noticeable bias towards rightwing politics in its choice and positioning of political books and memoirs. Sure, you can find Michelle Obamas and Barack Obamas books - but not as prominently displayed as some no name authors giant sized Trump - 45th President Promises Kept. Same with new political thriller novels by politicians (and their ghostwriters.)In terms of religious and spiritual literature, same bias again. If you are looking for a Bible, their collection is almost entirely translations made by or favored by very conservative churches, such as the ESV, CSB, NKJV, etc., or Catholic translations. In multiple editions: Study, Devotional, Journaling, Presentation, Art Illuminated Bibles.Those are good translations, and as a liberal Christian I own some of them for study and comparison. But its nearly impossible to find the translations like the NRSV, CEB, RSV (in non-Catholic variants) commonly used by the mainstream Protestant and via media denominations such as Methodist, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, etc. Maybe one small print low-end printing of them. Not the range of purpose-based types nor print sizes of the conservative translations. Even though those are published, theyre not at BAM.On other religions, very little on Eastern religions that isnt some screed about World Religions and Cults. Very little on Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, nothing on Bahai Faith. Not much even on Judaism and no Jewish Scriptures (for Jews, not Old Testament.)Science section is broad but not deep. Science Fiction & Fantasy likewise, and tends to full price hardcover of things available in paper. Graphic Novels section small and not current.Finally, almost nothing of quality at any discount, without buying their discount membership - which they hard sell if you dont already have it. Likewise hard sell magazine subscriptions if you care to buy one copy. Ive heard thats because the clerks compensation and even job retention is tied to their pushing those with strict quotas, but unlike everything else I wrote, thats not from firsthand, recent observation and experience.Staff are helpful and friendly, when not trying to save their jobs by hardselling. Masking adherence is a joke though. Wed all love to get over the Delta blues but until we are, I wish they would adhere to Alachua County emergency orders and CDC guidance. They dont, and dont even have the latest Alachua-county mandated signage.I do shop there sometimes, and buy books and gifts when I find something unique or want it now, and do have their membership so as to save on those purchases. But despite looking like a bookstore of the Golden days of big chain bookstores it is nothing of the sort.

Lots on books in a good variety of subjects. I was looking for wild plant that are edible. A clerk there was very helpful and showed we where all were located. She even suggested ones that she had read and were very helpful to her. Then my friends and I had coffee in their coffee shop until it quit raining. Really nice experience. I did think book prices a bit high.

Was able to find almost all the Harry Potter products that are shown online. My local BAM has a limited amount of Harry Potter products compared to this one. I also noticed that they have a larger selection of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars merch.

This must be the worlds largest bookstores. Perfect with their coffee corner!

Enjoy browsing inside, skip the online store.Let me first say, I LOVE bookstores. They are a comfort and joy that I cant describe with just a few words. You can stay in a bookstore and never feel out of place as you browse through your favorite section.I actually have never had an online purchase before, for a bookstore. But because there was a nice deal I decided to order and pick them up. As I got to bam I walked around for a bit before asking for my items at the center desk. One of my books that I ordered, apparently wasnt on the shelf and was never fully charged. The online system was incorrect I was told, and I just shrugged, understanding that sometimes things happen. Then a hardcover I ordered was substituted for a softback. But the price was still charging me the hardcover. I decided to take it away and instead of refunding my money, I was offered a gift card of the same amount.Its a good thing I love bookstores. I guess.Its also a good thing I dont take things to heart. I probably wont go back to this store. At least, I dont think I will. The employees were the only reason why I gave it three stars. You can tell a couple of them really loved their job. One girl I spoke to for about 10 minutes or so and it really felt like she enjoyed working there. The manager, was a little off the wall and confused. So that tells me they probably dont get many online sales. Or it was an off day for him.Im not upset but it was a disappointing experience. Ill always love bookstores but I think this one in Gainesville is probably my least favorite.

Great place for books, games, and gifts! The manager was very kind about holding an online pickup order at the register when I called knowing I was arriving right before closing. I was in and out and felt welcomed.

Such a joy to see that people do still use and read the printed word. This store even buys your old books and sells at a discount. All areas are clearly marked by subject. But you cant help but roam the store to discover all there is see.

Never been to a book store before that didnt offer to help you find the book. I searched for my book & couldnt find it. I then went up front to ask if they had it. After looking in the computer, she saw that she had two of the books. She then told me where to go to find it. Told her I had already tried to find it & couldnt. She told me again where to look & if I didnt see it, then they didnt have it. Weird I thought because the computer said you have two. For this interaction, I knew she didnt care if I found my Interlinear Bible or not. I found it on my own. Spent 98$ there today, but will not be back to this location EVER.

Shocked this place is still open but happy that its still around. Always a great selection of books and a great place to grab a cup of coffee

What a great location off of the interstate. Easy to find. Needed a little rest and enjoy some coffee from Joes Muggs read a magazine and relax a little while from traveling. I thought it was great that they buy back books and if they have used books and CDs available. Im glad to see Books-A-Million is diversifying itself. This store was very large busy and a staff was friendly. Everything seemed to be well organized. It has been a long time since I have seen such a large selection of books magazines and other gift items

We especially love the book return policy. But do your Christian friends & patrons a favor by stocking The Thompsons Chain Referenced Bible, the only study Bible without mens comments. I was married half a century to a Man of God who had a copy of every Bible sold in America and some from elsewhere, and I used them all for studying at first, but in the end only used the Thompsons.

Every time I am in line here, check out is delayed after many minutes due to up-selling and offers and promos being discussed. BAM should put up a sign or placard with posted promos and discounts prior to the POS so people arent delayed so much. Or get more than one cashier please!

Pretty good book selection, a bit pricey but they usually have a good clearance area. The paperback classic novels are cheap though, so that’s nice. The coffee place adds a nice touch and the staff is friendly. It’s nice and quiet, I like to just walk around here when I have nothing else to do.

Enjoyed the atmosphere at this location. I hadnt been in Books A Million since they moved off 13th Street...yeah...that long😳. However, I am really glad that I went with my daughters and grandson. He was so overwhelmed with the many exciting books and toys. There was something there for everyone...even a beautiful little rocking bear for my 3mth old granddaughter that I had to get. Books A Million is STILL our family store.

I enjoy going for new books and taking my family so they can continue using books in this technology world. I do have concerns on how much the staff know where things are, its good to invest in proper training to have a better outcome on costumer service and be proud to work in a place where there is so much knowledge.

They have a wonderful assortment of books, magazines, and childrens toys to suit your complete familys fancy. Add in the coffee from Joe Muggs and the comfortable chairs to enjoy a quick read - this was a great place to spend an hour resetting on a lunch break!

Went to get one adult coloring book. After we searched the whole store in every section, my boyfriend and I left with 6 books at a good price. The staff wasnt helpful and didnt know where to direct us. And the store wasnt too organized either. Good thing we have common sense and time to go searching.

If youre addicted to books like my family then this place is perfect. We can always find a book to bring home. Their Dungeons and Dragons book selection is great too!

Website doesnt work and when I asked if I could buy it at the discounted price due to their own website not working, they refused and said Id have to come back another time. This is one of the only quality book stores around and they cant even keep up a website.

Lots of books but feels more like a gimick store now. Lots of funko pops, loungefly bags, harry potter merch, disney merch. Was looking for some professional books and was told they only carry them online now due to the demand locally.

It was decent. The only thing I had a problem with was the 2 clerks working the night I went. Dont remember their names but I felt as if they were giving me an attitude because I didnt donate to the Christmas gift thing for the kids.

Good selection. Bad thing is you cannot order books to be delivered free of charge into their store from their website. Staff is very friendly helpful and professional. They should think about opening a place for coffee. Their book selection is ok but if you want something special you are better off online on your own at lesser cost.

Place always has smooth jazz or some other good tracks playing in a decently climate controlled building filled with all sorts of high quality books and some mean Java as well.

The store is really neat and clean, the staff is always helpful. I appreciate the cashier who rang out my book on Norse mythology last night. It was cool to talk to someone who is in to Norse mythology too

Good location with friendly staff. Always a lot of good deals/clearance available. The only reason for 4 stars is due to the fact that this location has had an issue with the security system going off at random intervals and making a very loud noise. Other than that, its very nice, clean location.
