Terrible people to go to. They stole my money and didnt even touch my car. They charged me 160 for car diagnostic on my brake lights. They never touched my car, could not give me proof of what they did to my car.

Pros: Extremely honest. Cant find a better mechanic or value. He prides himself on doing things right & honest work. I have been getting my car worked on there since 2002. One of Gainesvilles best kept secrets. They are only open at night. That is great since you do not have to take off work. Takes credit cards, which is not as common with small shops. He can work on just about anything.Cons: Best for those /w patience or a 2nd vehicle. He is in very high demand because of the above positive attributes & because he does it right. He does not have rigid hours & is hard to reach by phone. Best to stop by, but no hang out too long (so he can work).

Gunnar is a wonderful mechanic. He is honest and quick, good at communicating,and very trustworthy. Ive been going to him for all my mechanical needs on multiple vehicles for 2 years now.After having horror stories with other mechanics in Gainesville, I am incredibly appreciative to have met Gunnar!

Ive felt that its hard to find an honest mechanic at times. Harder still to find a competent one. And nearly impossible to find one who wants to help you save money instead of just get you to spend it. Mr. Gunnar is one of those rare gems who has all three traits.Mr. Gunnar helped breath new life back into my 1995 Honda Civic. He fixed a crank-no-start problem for $200 with a new distributor cap and rotor when Dads Auto had told me that my engine was blown and needed to be replaced for $2,295.93. He also spotted some other problems and fixed them for a fraction of dealership cost with like-new u-pull parts. I have no doubt that my Honda is good for another 100K thanks to his work.Mr. Gunnar is as thorough as he is thoughtful. Ive never met a mechanic who is as technically skilled as he is, as diligent, and as intentionally helpful. I am very thankful that I have him to bring my car to if there is a problem with it. In the past Ive made the mistake of spending way too much time with auto problems that could have been much more swiftly resolved by a competent mechanic. Its a huge relief to me to know that I have a mechanic who I can go to and trust.There are a couple drawbacks to his work, which is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. These are partly byproducts of his kind of work, so its hard to get around them. First, the work will likely take longer. I think that this is in part because of his thoroughness and his dedication to resolve problems that other mechanics would normally just give up on. It seems that Its also because of the number of trips that he takes to the u-pull lot to find quality used parts. I hate to see things go to waste and I like to save money on repair projects. I also appreciate dedication to resolving tricky problems. So this added time is worth it for me, but I can recognize how it can be a burden for others. Mr. Gunnar is also hard to reach at times by phone and text. I think this is partly from his quirky night hours and from just being overwhelmed. In our face-to-face conversations at the shop he has always been pleasant, helpful, and accessible. (Hes friendly on the phone too when you reach him.) If you can tolerate these two challenges, then I think you are going to love the results that you get at his shop.One of his mechanic friends, who briefly had my car at his shop, told me this. You will never find a mechanic with more integrity and who will get the job done more affordably than Gunnar. Thats high praise as I see it from a mechanic who would otherwise benefit from steering me away from another shop. Im not sure if you can better demonstrate the value that Mr. Gunnar offers than this.

Gp Auto is a small repair shop located behind Sonnys on Waldo road. I have been taking my cars there for years. The owner of the shop, Gunnar, is always honest and fair, with all his dealings. He is able to repair my cars without guess work, the first time. Gp has the latest computers for modern vehicles and also specializes in older carbd cars. Gunnar works by himself and usually has quite a few customers cars in the shop, so an appointment is necessary. He has been in the same location for over 20 years and is the guy who the other mechanics call, when they get stumped.
