Tom is classic local mechanic. Hes been there over 50 years and has refined his projects, vehicles, hours, etc. to his liking - deservedly so! Get over there for an oil change before he retires - you dont want to miss out on this local institution!

Very trustworthy honest mechanic. Twice now Tom has prescribed DIY fixes for my car issues when other mechanics would have gladly taken my money. When I finally had issues out of my hands I received quality service at a reasonable price.

Honest shop, fair prices, seems to favor regular maintenance jobs over the big stuff though. Would recommend to anyone.

My car broke down while hiking and I had no idea what to do, being that I live three hours away from Duluth. Lester’s was the closest auto shop so I called and they were out to help me within 5 minutes. I made it home in one piece. I’m so impressed with the speed and great customer service.

Good, fast service for an oil change and didn’t take advantage when I asked him to check belts and some other items. Just told me it was all good.

My old crap car was making weird noises, sent it to them to check it out. They confirmed my car was essentially beyond repair and were very upfront about it. Seemed like nice, honest people and will likely go to them if my new car has troubles.

Horrible customer service. I will never again bring my car here. My family (dad specifically) has been a loyal customer of this auto repair shop for years now and none of us will be giving them our business after the customer experience we had today. Ive had a very minor windshield wiper motor issue with my car for awhile now and decided to call Skellys to have it fixed. I had heard they were packed full with cars so I decided to be safe and simply call and ask about how many cars were in waiting. I called the shop and asked kindly, I was wondering how long the wait would be to have my car get into the shop if I brought it in tonight and had it worked on at some point. I also told him the issue with my car just so he was aware. The young man at the desk replied in a condescending/ rude manner with Well how am I supposed to know? I dont know whats wrong with your car and a condescending laugh (classic). Keep in mind I had already told him the issue I was having with my car. I knew exactly the issue I simply needed someone to install the motor. I kept my cool and clarified that I was not in fact inquiring about how long my repair would take but how long the wait was in front of me. Probably one of the simplest questions to answer and if for some reason he couldnt give an estimate, he certainly couldve responded in a far more professional way. He instead laughs again, acting as if Id just asked the most ridiculous question ever and told me I had to tell him the model of my car next. That was when I decided it best to hang up and bring my business elsewhere. My question didnt even have anything to do with mechanics or anything technical. It was a completely innocent question that clearly implied that I was interested in giving this company my business. And even still, this man couldnt answer the question and instead felt it best to laugh and demean. Even a simple, Im sorry. Im not sure, sir wouldve sufficed.Im aware this may seem like a minor issue to some, but it is not the first poor customer service issue Id had with this small business and youd think that if you specialize in repairing cars and are running a business centered around that, you would, at the very least, learn how to answer questions, regardless of how dumb or often you hear them, with respect and professionalism. Ive noticed this high and mighty behavior that these men at this shop have and I (and my family) have had enough. The prices here at Skellys are nowhere near reasonable enough to excuse such disrespectful customer service that I have no trouble taking my car somewhere else. Its sad to think of how much money my family has given this poorly run business over the years and how little they value their devoted customers. I have and will continue to let everybody know that this is not a business worth giving money to and quite frankly, whoever that immature man was who answered the phone, should be fired. (He was working at 4:30PM on a Tuesday). Ive since talked to others who have experienced rude customer service at Skellys as well. Its not worth giving your money to a company with rude employees when you can get the same quality work done to your car for the same price (or much cheaper) literally anywhere else in Duluth.
