I was worried after reading the reviews about poor customer service but Im glad we went. They had a great selection and though some of the units were sold out/not available in certain colors, the staff was very helpful! They even would go in the back to try and find close alternatives to ones that werent available. We spent a good hour in the store and never felt disrespected, or followed around... they didnt hover but were very available when we had questions or wanted to check the availability of a unit. There was a storm that rolled through and they let us hang out inside until it passed. We dont live in the area but if were ever here again, well be back! Highly recommend!

Id stopped coming to this store after I witnessed a young lady physically assault a worker because of something that happened on Facebook ( I promise I cant make this up). The manager has always been kind to me as I travel from out of town so make large purchases when I come.The customer service is beyond poor however. The young lady we had today stayed on her phone the entire time I tried asking for assistance! When I inquired about an item she said anything with a yellow tag is not in stock. Thats awkward to display something you know you dont have. She later said im sure I dont have the one you were looking at but Ill double check. She came out with 6 wigs and I chose a color. We found out at checkout that it wasnt the style Id inquired about.When her colleague told her she brought up the wrong style she became very combative. Even went as far to say she was kind enough to bring 6 wigs out for me. Excuse me....I thought she was on the clock to assist me as a customer. She continued yelling at me and I walked until I saw the manager.I refused to purchase the items I had minus the one item my mom asked for as a gift. I pay money for good service not to feel harassed. The manager said hed talk to this young lady. I do pray so. Acting like that with customers will cause a business multiple sales. Hope that phone call she was on was worth losing my $300 for the day.

Friendly Customer Service Representative and theyre very nice and respectful there.

Wide variety of selections for wigs, weave and hair care products. Since this is a national chain, it provides stronger buying power than other local stores carrying similar items. Their Wig selection is crowded and not all styles displayed are available for purchase. Service can be rough and unprofessional often, but there are a few staff members who provide good service.

I try to avoid this place, I really do. The staff is so unprofessional. You really dont know who works there!. They do have a wonderful supply of products. But thats it. They always have a sale on this one particular hair that says its 30% off. But when you get to the register, they try and take 30% off your entire total. Thats not 30% off each pack of hair. And one guy behind the counter didnt even acknowledge me when I asked for help. 😒 He informed me that he was getting off to hang out with his cousin so he couldnt help me. However there was one guy that did offer help and made sure I was taking care of. Basically if you want horrible service go here. Just know what you are getting because no one will help you

One day while shopping for beauty products, a patron had come into the store unaware of the continued mask mandate. She proceeded to shop until an employee asked her to grab a mask that they had on standby, which btw on the box which housed these masks, it states that “not for medical use”, sighs, I digress. Anywho, she proceeded to make a point regarding the lifting of the mandate and an asian employee/owner lashes out and told her to get the f word out of his store if she didn’t want to wear a mask and to shut the f word up. I was so appalled and offended that I politely put the items back in their places and I left. Although he was not speaking to me, as a customer I felt wronged just by what he said to her. I spend my fiat in places that treat me and any other person with respect. Definitely lost a customer👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾

This store is amazing, very affordable prices, and a HUGE variety of products to choose from. There was a gentleman who was very helpful in finding everything I needed for my daughters hair.

My grandmother got a haircut and the stylist practically shaved her head. She cried for hours so I offered to buy her a wig to try to ease her pain. Im not sure of the womans name but she went out of her way to help me find wigs in the style and color my grandma wanted and helped me decide on everything I would need. It was nice to see my grandma smiling again! THANK YOU!

The employees are very disrespectful I was being threatened by one of the employees there stating he will break my phone and he will set me up he goes on to state that he is involved in gangs and that he will set me up. please don’t shop here if you care about your safety once again the customer service is poor and I asked several times to speak to a manger and they were refusing to give me information in regards to that. I also will have to take it further because I have videos and documentations as well to when the employee threaten me and they refused to also serve me because I ask nicely for a product availability .

They are so unprofessional and rude. As a black women I shop for beauty products and hair products all the time. But this was the only beauty supply shop that made me feel as if I was doing something wrong or stealing. I feel so uncomfortable going there I try to avoid going in that shop. I read a lot of these reviews from women saying they feel like they are stealing going into mid k. Why do they make their main customers feel unwelcome. I recommend vanity because they help you whenever you need help.

I’ve never had a bad experience here! They are always super kind to me and my girlfriend and are always willing to help us find what we’re looking for as well as educate us if we have questions. We go there a lot for photo shoot props and though we both have naturally straight hair we’ve found products we both love there. The quality of hair for the price is the best in town.

I love the fact that they have hair pieces for every skin color and the prices are very reasonable. But finding someone to show them to you can be difficult. The employees can be rude and often say that they are out of every one that I choose so often I end up settling. I dont know if thats really the case because they dont seem to look for them very hard. I have referred a several of my friends and they say that they had the same experience. Whatever the circumstances, I do keep going back. So theres that.

Door staff was waiting to offer a face mask as well as germ-x to all entering the store.

I just went in to find a new wig. I was waited on by a young white lady who apparently also used gorilla glue as hair spray. She was rude but it could be a side affect of the glue.

Terrible customer service. The door are opened till 7pm Monday through Sunday. They will lock up at 6:45. I’ve seen it twice at this location and would not let anyone in. Honestly so disappointing to see this Especially from your own people. I promise you go around 6:30 and wait inside or shop they will lock the doors and not let anyone in.

Before I went to this business, I read all the reviews. I made a conscious effort to be extremely nice to all the staff. Im as white as snow, so I didnt want to be perceived as anything but a paying customer. I loved the selection of wigs and the sales ladies were very nice and helpful. I did have to try on several wigs and yes, some of the wigs were not in stock but I did find one that looked great on me and it was available. Fast forward one week. I went back to get another wig. Again, the sales ladies were great, UNTIL I went to check out. The cashier was an older black lady with a huge attitude problem. I bought some wig shampoo that the sales lady suggested (she was super nice), along with a new wig. The cashier decided to try and sabotage my new purchase by not only opening the shampoo bottle lid but also loosening it so that the liquid would run out all over my new purchase. Fortunately, it did not damage my new wig but I was pretty upset at what she tried to do. Honey, the only color you should be concerned with is GREEN, for money!Next time Ill try Vanity Rhys.

I love mid k, reasons? I love make up. Even though My skills are average, I bought all kind of expensive make up,I spent a lot of the money on top brand names makeup. One day I went to Mid K bought eyeliner pencil, boy, what’s a difference between my $30 eyeliner to the $3 dollars eyeliner from Mid K. Thank you Mid K for saving me money!!!! The Cheapest price and best products ever!!!!

I love their selection of $1 earrings and hair accesories. I buy my daughters shampoo, conditioners, oils, etc. I always tell people to check out Mid-K when they compliment my earrings or my daughters hair. I love their selection and shop there often. The staff is usually helpful and informative. They sell much more than just weave and wigs so I recommend to everyone :)

Gave it two stars because they do have a large selection of items. Here are the problems...1. Congested messy store.2. Items left on shelves that are out of stock (totally dont understand this).3. Customer distrust, meaning, overly heavy handed appearance of security that makes you feel like you, or everyone around you shopping in the store is a shop lifter.4. Rude staff, dont get me wrong there are individuals who are lovely and try to help, but they are rare, the majority of the staff is rude and often unfriendly.Final analysis: If there was another store in the Des Moines area that had as big of a selection of items as Midk, and was better organized, and had a more courteous and friendly Staff Midk would be put out of business. IMHO

So I go in there 8/26/21 with $100.00 couldn’t break it. Trying to purchase $39.50 worth of stuff. I just brought hair then left. I called and said I would be back can u please hold the remaining stuff I didn’t purchase with my card.I get off work I go in to see if they have my stuff. their words “sorry not everyone comes back so we put it away”. I am not everyone I am on a time crutch if I knew they did that I wouldn’t of got on the bus to just go there. I would have taken the a different bus too. It’s out of my way as well. So unprofessional and rude the owner said he would do it but lied! Vanity is closer to my home so next time I will go there or just order from Amazon. Where my stuff can be held! Staff stays on their cell phones instead of helping you. You have to literally ask multiple times until you get their attention. They wont even help you look for products. They just point you in directions as if I can find the stuff. The hair is expensive compared to Vanitys Rhys why I never go there I love Vanity hair store on MLK, its cheaper and very nice useful staff.

Trashy store horrible customer service Des Moines really needs a new beauty supply store... They should have been closed MidK, employees follow you like you’re going to steal merchandise they do not ask to service you and their products are old/overpriced. I returned less than 10 minutes later with the receipt to make an exchange & this *** tells me its against state law to make exchanges.!! I spend too much $ in that place to have my intelligence insulted for 1, and to put up with that ridiculous display of service for 2. They need a reminder of who keeps them employed. NEVER RETURNING.
