Silzer is a great auto repair shop. They earned my trust, confidence and respect the very first time they helped me out with my daughters car while at Drake U and a dead winter battery. Simple job but their respect and honesty showed through immediately. Went back to them again now for a more serous brake job and again proved the owner is personally involved and keeps you informed along the way. They went out of their way to again fix my daughters car in the SAME DAY. They would not have to do that. I truly appreciate them and down home businesses like Silzers. Very few around like them anymore.

Everyone there was super friendly and kept it real with what I truly needed fixed. I could tell they did everything they possibly could to make fixing my rotors, brake pads, and calipers the most cost effective. They got my car in right away, and I ended up paying a fourth of the cost I would have paid at a dealership! I called my family right away and recommended they go there next time as well.

These guys were really great. I came from out of town with a check engine light on and they put the computer on it and told me the issue. They didnt fix it but reassured me I was good to travel until my mechanic could take a look. Friendly and knowledgeable.

Highly recommend this place, in my case the sunroof of my F150 was damaged. (Looked everywhere in Des Moines no one else but them had an actual Sunroof repair guy) It was a nice experience the diagnostic was fast, accurate, and gave me an estimate the same day. I even ask Nick about hooking up the LED fog lights because I changed the front bumper, and he worked with me with the price. Definitely nice people they try to work with you and give you the best solutions for your car.

I could not be happier with this shop. I go out of my way to support local repair shops, and this is the best one I have found in North Des Moines. They know their customers, they know the vehicles that we drive, they keep DETAILED records of estimates and previous repairs. And they stick to their estimates. They are professional, they give realistic time frames for how long a repair will take, and they are SAFE during the pandemic. Masks are worn and expected in the shop and their office. And the observe social distancing as much as possible. Highest recommendation.

Best shop in Des Moines hands down! We have been taking our vehicles here for years. All of the staff are great to deal with, especially Nick and Doug. Had some special work done on a classic car to put a car seat for my son in. Nick knocked it out of the park like usual. They always do a fantastic job on everything.

If you go here I would recommend talking to Nick. He is the ONLY reason Ive been going here for the last 4 years... He is great to work with if I need my SUV done in a certain time frame. I took my car in last minute on a weekday and they got me in right away without a problem and listened very well to what issues I was having with my car. I dropped my car off and ask for a bumper to bumper inspection when I got there also, they were very honest with me about what the issue could possibly be. I had more issues then I thought and they took care of it and let me know I needed a new front end suspension and that they could order parts that day and get started on it as soon as possible. Two of employees came in the next day on their day off to get my car done and get me back on the road, also gave me a loaner car to get to and from work the next day. They quality of work was the best I’ve ever had at a shop and the price was affordable for the work to that was done, I would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done on their vehicle. My wife found Silzer Auto before I’d been there and commented about how much she liked them. Fast forward a year I had some work done including new front tires at a different shop my insurance recommends. Well whomever sealed the tires didn’t do the job correct and each side developed bulges within a couple weeks of one another. The original shop wasn’t standing behind their work (it had to be something I’d done) despite it being only a couple months. I took my car to silzer for the first tire. They got it done quick and correctly. When it happened on the other side they got it done even quicker. They’ve been nothing but friendly professional and timely. They’re local and I am quite satisfied!!! I’ve found my shop!

Over the past 15 years Ive found Silzer Auto Repair to be the most proficient, trustworthy, honest and fair garages in the upper Midwest. I routinely have my pickup and my wifes car serviced there. If a major repair arises naturally I shop around. Inevitably other shop either higher in price, unable to do the work on my schedule or just dont have the competency to accomplish the task. I kid you not, I had 2 garages (names withheld) tell me we dont do that work because it was too hard to get to the parts that needed changing. (05 F150 spark plugs). I went to Silzers, (drop off in morning) job was done in one day (pick up after work) and done right. If you truly care for your vehicles, trust me, trust Silvers Auto Repair.

Was able to schedule an appointment within a timely manner of calling. Dropped off my car at 8AM, they called with the issue by 8:30AM & had it fixed by 11AM same day! When I picked up my car, I noticed they vacuumed my floorboards (thank you!) & left a fun thank you note attached to a snack. My car sounds like new now!

They were very friendly over the fun and in person. They diagnosed my list of concerns free of charge and told me other things they noticed. They were honest about how much each problem would cost, and whether or not they thought it was worth the investment given the overall state of the car. When I got the car back I was surprised to find it vacuumed! I will most likely return for any future needs.

My Honda Accords ac compressor service was done here. Doug, Nick and Sam are very nice and professional. The fix was perfect. These guys really stand behind their work. If you are not 100% satisfied with the fix they will work with you until you are fully satisfied with the result. And the best part was that I was given a loaner car so dropping off and getting back was seamless. Even though Silzer Auto is a little far from my work I am going to stick to this place because of the quality of their work and professionalism.

The owner told me the Transfer Case had to be replaced. Without discussing it in advanced they performed a completely different repair altogether. Doug Silzerthen insisted that he never stated the transfer case required repair. The damage was due to a car crash so my insurance company was paying the bill. He went from informing me that I needed a new transfer case. Then insisted that he never said it. Then he went on to say that the transfer case repair was not to the accident. In they did not repair or replace the transfer case. But informed me after the fact that I need one

I highly recommend this repair business. The rear differential on my Nissan Frontier had ground up a bearing - and I could not return home to northern Minnesota until it was repaired in Des Moines. The Silzer team got me in their work schedule within a day, quickly assessed it, gave me a quote, and then fixed it. In addition, with the wheels & brakes already off they also replaced - with my hearty approval - the disc brakes & saved me the related labor since everything was already off the truck for the differential repair.I stopped by the shop while they were working on it & they showed me all the failed parts that had been making all the noise while I was driving.The outcome and performance of the repair was terrific - and I felt for a very reasonable price. They took excellent care of a perfect stranger from northern Minnesota. I am sure they would do the same for anyone coming in - they are nice people - and excellent mechanics. I would give them a ten if a could. I can see why they have a high Google rating.

These guys were not only very helpful, they were incredibly polite and accommodating. We were driving cross-country and they managed to work us in for an inspection on fairly short notice and gave us even more advice than we asked for. They were quick, professional, and really looked out for us. Would recommend to any local or anyone happening to be in the area!

Silzer Auto Repair always goes above and beyond for their customers, I truly believe Doug and Nick would do anything to keep their customers happy. Once while I was picking up my car I overheard Doug offer to help a guy move his refrigerator, he said he would run right up. I just dont think you can get that kind of service from the big chain stores.

I have been using Silzer Auto Repair since moving to Des Moines 2 years ago and they have been outstanding. The team there is very knowledgeable and the work they do is top notch. Scheduling and talking through the issues on the phone was a great first impression of how knowledgeable they are, and the quick diagnostics and repair ( even without a fault code) sealed the deal. Silzer has always been amazing to work with. I just dealt with Hummels Nissan for a possible warranty issue. It ended up not being a warranty issue and they quoted me $2100 to fix it. I decided to go to Silzer for a second estimate as I have always trusted their expertise and candor, and they were able to fix it for $300. They just saved me $1800 and a major headache. I have and will keep recommending them to people as they are the best mechanic I have ever dealt with.

I had a problem with my sunroof last week and took my car to Silzer Auto.Nick took me out into the shop and showed me the track had broken on the right side of the unit.He quickly explained how you have to remove all the plastic parts, sun visors, seat belt, headliner, lights and wiringjust to get to the sunroof frame so it can then be removed. Nick had one tested at a junk yard and now it works perfect in myFord Flex, all at a fair cost even though it took him most of the day. A huge thank you to the Silzer team for taking care of me, when I am on a tight budget. I highly recommend them for any of your car needs! Locally owned, fair pricing and honest!!

I grew up here and have lived in Colorado the past 16 years. In town visiting and had an issue with the front end of my vehicle. After a long time friend recommended I called them and they told me they were booked solid for 2 weeks but to come on in and they would at least take a look since I had a 750 mile return trip ahead. When I arrived the manager immediately pulled a mechanic named Marco off the job he was doing to look at it. After putting the vehicle in the air they discovered the issue in the front end and conducted an immediate repair. The manager then had Marco go for a drive with me to insure the issue was resolved. The car drove great and while talking with Marco I found out he had been working there 19 years! When we returned the manager told me to have a great day and there was no charge! It has been so long since I have seen business conducted the old fashioned way with true professionals who know exactly what that they are doing. Extremely impressed by the manager and mechanic who helped me, a simple visitor from out of town.

Great service! They explain what is needed and are transparent on the costs. They provide solid workmanship and are upfront on the what it takes to get the job done. They werent able to help me with the fancy electronics on my BMW, but neither was Beckley. At least Silzer was upfront about it and didnt suggest randomly replacing parts to see if it might solve it. Doug and Nick are friendly and try to accommodate me with temporary transportation whenever possible.Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience with Silzer Auto Repair. Kept me up to date over the phone on the multiple repairs that were needed, extremely friendly and professional, and the total cost was much less than I was expecting. When I picked the vehicle up, they were waiting for me and showed me the parts that had failed and what they did to fix it. Great service. After stopping at a few places and struggling to even get an estimate to replace my brakes, I stopped at Silzer. They sat down with me and gave me estimates for several options, working with me to get the price down to something I was comfortable with. They were able to get me in the next day. I was unable to get someone to pick me up, so they offered to drive me to a nearby coffee shop with internet so that I could work there while they did the brake replacement. They then picked me up when it was finished. They delivered spot on with the estimate which was a very reasonable price especially considering the 2 year warranty they offer. I will definitely be going back to them with all my car repairs from now on. I highly recommend.

EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!! I took my 2001 Park Ave. in a few months ago. It was my fathers car (before he passed) and prior to that; it was my wifes grandfathers car. So it is notalgic. It was only running intermittently. I spoke to Doug, the owner, he told me what he thought it was. He was correct (crank sensor). I had them fix the car. It has run great ever since. I usually do most repairs myself, used to work at an auto parts store, and used to do a bit of drag racing. I say all of this to say.....I know what prices of parts run and how tough or easy a job could be. His price(s) were fair and he even replaced a couple of lights at no cost. When I picked the car up; Doug gave me a detailed explaination of the work completed. In conversation; we have mutual acquaintances in the car world.I will be using Silzer Auto again and will refer others....GREAT SERVICE, FAIR PRICE(S), PERSONABLE. A great throw-back to how a small business should be run!!

Update: after spending a large chunk of change to essentially have the top end of my engine rebuilt several months later my passenger side exhaust manifold lost all but one stud, and the overheating issue came back as if Id never had them do the head gaskets, and Im still losing about 2 quarts of oil between oil changes. The rest of the work seems to be still functioning great though.Miscommunications are easier to take care of when talking to the owner of the company himself. I was assured that my concerns about my wifes vehicle will be given high priority.

Took my Ford Ranger in this morning for new wheel bearings and brakes and got it back shortly after lunch. They saved me a few hundred bucks in the process and even went the extra mile to clean the interior. I will definitely be doing business with these guys again and highly recommend Silzer to anyone in the Des Moines area. Thanks guys!

Came time I needed a new gas tank/fuel pump for my 20-year-old truck (204,000 miles). Silzer was recommended to me by a friend. Both Doug and Nick were friendly, happy to listen to my concerns, kept me informed as to the status of my special order for parts and took extra time to explain to me what was done. When I went to pick up my truck, there was still a check engine light on (not because of anything they did or didnt do) and they pulled it right back inside and cleared it. Twice they gave me a ride and lent me a loaner. The price was fair, the work done well and I trust that I was treated truthfully. What more can you ask for?

Nick at Silzer was a life saver today. My wife took her car to another mechanic to get her oil changed and they totally messed up her vehicle. Nick was able to get her car in the same day I called and got it fixed and back to her. Thank you guys.

HIGHEST OF RECOMMENDATIONS!!!My husband was trying to replace the surpentine belt in my moms car before she went back home to The Ozarks in Missouri and he had a bit of a struggle with her Ford Fusion... so he ran up to Silzer Auto to ask for some advice and Nick Kindred told him to bring it on up. He took it there right away and amazingly Nick put the car right up and within 10 minutes had the car ready to go! Cant say enough about the knowledge, promptness & efficiency of the service at this location! 10+ Stars in my book. Will never go anywhere else!

Doug Silzer, Before you replied I just left it with a simple rating but in fact I’ll let you in on some detail because your company feels the need to attack reviews that aren’t a five star rating.For one I was a customer, for several years. My companies vehicles were all taken to you and trusted to be well taken care of and fixed accordingly. Several times while vehicles were in your shop they left with even more problems or errors and even nails in the tires that later went flat. Your customer service was horrible when taking in the vehicles as well as seen below from your comment.My company has switched to a more professional and reliable auto shop. Sincerely, a not so young google user.

This place is fantastic. Im relatively new to Des Moines and so Ive only had a few car problems, but Silzer is the third place Ive tried and so satisfied with the four or five times Ive already been there that I have no need to keep trying other places. Some of my experiences there include: they always remembered my past issues and visits (which was helpful when I called back for some additional information), they didnt waste my time and money during the diagnostic stage looking at routine maintenance stuff that either clearly wasnt related to the big issue or that I had replaced myself (Ive had past issues with that elsewhere), they have routinely taken me onto the floor to explain in detail exactly whats going wrong/how bad it really is/how to manage it should I not pursue the fix, and offering sage advice on whats worth fixing and whats not, and a few minor fixes they did along the way that they didnt even bother to charge me for, they have loaner cars if you need them while yours is being worked on, and one time they even just ought-right sent a guy to pick me up. Cant say enough good things about them. I dont know who will actually read all this, so Ill stop there. Though I obviously dont hope to have car issues, when I do I will absolutely go back.
