First time visitor to the Guitar House Workshop; excellent experience!I was given time to browse comfortably on my own, and was politely offered assistance. I accepted and asked for guidance on the condition of a guitar that was on consignment, and one of the employees was able to come forward, test it out for me and provide advice on areas I questioned, such as fret wear, and condition of pots and the switch. The whole interaction was pleasant and professional.Purchasing was smooth, even with the new person getting trained. You can tell a lot about a business in how they treat their new employees and I was impressed at the concise, patient instruction that was given.Overall, they were as excited for me as I was. I would be happy to do business with them again.
I have been a friend of Guitar House Workshop ever since they had first opened, just down the street from the Chambers Rd. Kroger [for those of you who know what that means], during May 2009.I am not a guitar player; however, I am a piano player who appreciates many different styles of music. Guitar House Workshop sells guitars and other fretted instruments; they also repair those instruments and teach music lessons.I had first heard about Guitar House Workshop because I would often walk past that business while walking from western Upper Arlington [near the Scioto River] to the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood of Columbus.I have visited Guitar House Workshop whenever I have been in that area and they have been open. When Guitar House Workshop had first-opened, they had been surrounded by mostly-abandoned-or-rarely-used buildings on a narrow rarely-used two-lane road; now they are completely surrounded by recently-built condominiums.Last night [9-24-2021] I attended the first-ever concert in the newly-constructed pavilion in the back yard of Guitar House Workshop. It had been fun to be present last night while Guitar House Workshop had been sharing some wonderful music with that neighborhood.
The owner himself sat and worked with me for about an hour today to help me find a suitable guitar. I have a damaged hand, and had concerns about being able to properly fret a guitar, so I had all kinds of questions. The owner John was patient, and kind and answered everything I wanted to know. When I walked in to the shop he was busy with his own work, and without prompting stopped what he was doing to take care of me. Completely awesome experience so If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area and need something guitar-related go see these guys!
This was my first time here the staff was welcoming and the shop is clean. Tons of acoustic guitars if thats your thing. Josh was very thorough and honest regarding pricing and options. I brought in a bass that I got in the 80s and the electronics were pretty bad. Josh helped me figure out what pickups to use and gave me an estimate and a turnaround time. (About 3 weeks) it was kind of expensive but I had over $100 in parts and he had to completely rewire, clean up the fretboard and string the guitar. Like my Grandma used to say, you get what you pay for!I would recommend.
This is a great shop with a friendly and professional staff and owners. They repaired a high end acoustic guitar for me (bridge re-glue and set up) and made the instrument better than it ever was. I will absolutely return and recommend them to anyone who asks.
Had an absolutely amazing experience. The people there are craftsmen and filled with integrity. I will never go to different guitar shop again.
John and his team are simply outstanding! I had a unique instrument that needed a lot of love, and John went above and beyond, engineering and manufacturing parts along the way. The end result was way beyond my expectations. The Banjo Uke he repaired now plays and sounds incredible. Guitar House Workshop is the only place I will take my stringed instruments from now on.
I recently took both my electric and acoustic guitar into Guitar House Workshop for a string change and professional set up. Im just a beginner guitar player but dedicated to learning and moving forward. John explained everything to me and took care of me and my instrument. Both guitars came back to me in spectacular condition with new strings and great action. The sound was amazing compared to previously, and playing felt easier.Cant recommend this place enough. Great prices on services and a lot of knowledge in that shop. Look forward to a long relationship with this location for all my repair and set up needs, and maybe a new guitar in the future.
Ive known John since he worked with J. Thomas Davis some years ago. Ive taken numerous guitars to GHW since its opening and been more than pleased with the quality of their work. Id like to call particular attention to a recent project they completed for me and I couldnt be happier with the results.Out of a guitar collection that numbers perilously close to triple digits, the primary grab-it-in-case-of-a-fire instrument is my Guild JF-30 12. This is a veteran of countless gigs and was a present from my wife on the first Christmas of our marriage. But more than 25 years of double string tension finally necessitated a neck reset, and I tapped John for the task. The job, in a word, was flawless. When I strummed the first chord of my renovated Guild -- and I admit this very reluctantly -- I had tears in my eyes. Seriously. My guitar was more than restored, it was literally a better instrument than the day I brought it home. My point is this -- dont hesitate to trust a precious instrument to their care. I promise you wont be disappointed.
The folks in this shop are top notch and I cant say enough nice things about them. I highly recommend them to anyone.
This is where you want to bring your guitar for repair/setup etc in Columbus. Ive bought guitars there and had several worked on and have always been pleased. Bonus: John, Josh and Linda are welcoming and theres a warm, homey atmosphere to the place.
GREAT service, advice and support! Quality served here with care and attention to detail.
I took my ESP 256 in to be upgraded with new Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded pickups, black pickup frames, black knobs, black rams horn nut, and set up...Josh helped me...He was very nice and answered all my questions...The job was done in a reasonable amount of time...He did a wonderful job bringing the best out of my guitar...It plays/sounds great and the set up is masterfully done...I will definitely be back for my next project guitar...I would highly suggest these folks at Guitar House Workshop to handle your next guitar upgrade or servicing.
Took my SG in to have one bridge saddle replaced and slotted, since thats not something I have the tools for. Would not listen to me. They insisted on a full setup, which I did not need, as I do my own setups and have done so for the past 35-plus years. I am an experienced player with professional experience, and I know the trade, yet I was treated again and again like I had no experience and like these guys were the guardians of some great secret knowledge I could never know. I would attempt to talk shop with them, trying to make them understand that I am experienced, that I knew how to set up a guitar, and that there was no need to patronize me, asking them to do this specific repair and nothing else, and they would dismiss my wishes as if I didnt know what I was talking about. Astounding display of disrespect. I get far more respect from my mechanic, and I know far less about cars than I know about guitars. Setup was OK, but no one but me knows how to set up my guitar and so I had to re-do it, so I wasted my money there. Got the bridge saddle installed and slotted, but was the headache and indignity worth it? NO!Follow-up: I must also add that the guys at Guitar House Workshop filed my nut slots down to a level such that now the guitar has fret buzz on the open strings, necessitating a replacement of the nut. I will never go back to this shop, and anyone who asks about them will get a full story of how I was treated, how the requested repair was ignored in favor of work that I did not want nor ask for, and how I had to take my Gibson SG (a classic) to another tech to have the nut replaced because the guys at Guitar House Workshop actually, in effect, destroyed the factory nut with their so-called setup that I did not ask them to do.
Recently bought a new acoustic from Guitar House Workshop and I’m beyond thrilled. These guys provided an awesome setup on the instrument and it plays like a dream. Friendly, knowledgeable, staff made for a great buying experience.
I love everyone here.5-23-21 update:My friend and I went down to pick up a ukulele for my son and we left with a great uke and 4(!!) kazoos. The whole Guitar House experience is always a 10/10. Thanks, Linda!
These guys really know their stuff. My son has been taking lessons there for about 5 years and he is really amazing these days with his music. He started out taking guitar lessons but hes now taking digital music (dm) lessons. They didnt offer dm as an area of study when my son first showed interest it but their staff is so talented and flexible that they were able to make accommodations for him to give it a try within a couple weeks... That was about 3 years ago and my son still enjoys making dm and his music leszons in general.
Always great customer service, and extremely knowledgeable!
Bought an inexpensive Yamaha acoustic a few years ago there, the free setup was perfect, and it plays like a dream still! Recently, I brought in an 07 PRS that I just couldnt get setup perfectly; they diagnosed and fixed the issues and it is now excellent. They are the nicest folks and their staff is extremely talented. Take your guitar here before even considering anywhere else; you will not be disappointed.
Great store, wonderful staff, and very helpful classes. I bought my guitar here and they were very helpful in finding me the right fit. I then took classes with David Detwiler and he was wonderful and very adapting to what I wanted to learn. This is also a very friendly store, I felt at home there. Its not just a store but a place of music. Thank you
Took my strat to get a new nut, some electronic work and a setup. All the staff were beyond wonderful and polite. The workmanship on the instrument is sublime. Cute dog, too.
My son had recently been quarantined at OSU and wanted a ukulele. It was an unusual last-minute request during my wifes and my brief visit enroute to Cincinnati from Chicago. We Googled the nearest guitar shop. When we arrived they were closed. However, there was a young man inside working on a guitar, I suppose. I pleaded with him to sell me a ukulele. He was kind enough to relent. Thank you.
First timer, I took my cheapie Jackson RRX24 in to have a new set of humbuckers installed, pots/caps replaced, new nut. I got the guitar back in about 2 weeks (keep in mind this was over the new year holiday) and plugged it in. Guitar plays and sounds so good. Will be bringing other guitars to this business for sure!
They know absolutely nothing about music. Kid with the big nose is pretty cool even though his hands are too small to play the guitar
Very knowledgeable and personable staff!
Did a great job getting by Ibanez in shape! Plays great! Thanks, Evan! (Their Evan, not me -- I barely know a nut from a truss rod)
Ive been bringing my son here for guitar and music production lessons for years. I feel genuinely lucky to for his opportunities to work with instructors staffed by Guitar House Workshop.
I had the Guitar House Workshop file the nut on a new strat neck I put on and do a setup and they blew it out of the park! I will be taking my guitars to them in the future. I was very happy with how it was setup and they completed the work in a timely manner. Thanks!
I took a Japanese 00028 to the shop to get the neck reset. I found that I didnt need it. All that was needed was an adjustment at the bridge and the nut and some fret work. I went to pick it up and they had replaced a tuner for me and put a battery in my tuner. I was meaning to do that myself, right! Saved me a bundle and the guitar sounds amazing. Thanks guys. Excellent work. I would highly recommend these guys!
This is an excellent place to take guitars that need work. I have brought to guitar here for a simple setup but they do so much more involved work. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is High Caliber. They also offer lessons which run 4 days a month at $25 a lesson. They have different teachers available so you can find one to fit your specific needs. They have a good selection of high end acoustic guitar and a few Electrics scattered here and there. If you are in the area stop by and check them out.
Great luthiers and top notch repair work! *Edit: I can no longer recommend this shop due to high prices, little negotiation and long lead times. For example I asked about a neck reset, I was quoted between $300-$500+ with a 12 month + lead time. I can send my guitars out of state for a neck reset that will cost only $300 with a 2 week lead time. Thats to a well known shop, not some get it done in the garage type, too...Im giving 2 stars rather than 1, (down from a 5!) due to the fact that most of the time the work is very good and without question. John also worked with me and split a questionable charge on my final repair. Some may think Im a noob without much experience, but thats not the case. Ive owned over 30 guitars, mostly vintage guitars from the late 1800s to current. I have 6 guitars coming in this week, 1 going out today and 8+ going up for sale next week...Im not returning at theyre wish. (Per an email conversation)
If you play an instrument or if youre thinking about playing one, you should take a trip over to Guitar House Workshop. This is the friendliest, most knowledgeable group of folks youre going to encounter in a day. They know whats up and will make sure you get what you need. Im lucky that they are within blocks from my home, but if they were 25 miles away, on the other side of town, Id make the trip. Theyre worth it.
Best guitar shop to set up or repair your axe!!
Best service with a personal, no pressure, neighborhood feel. Linda and John are the best. Buy local!
Wow! What great service! This was my first time to bring my guitar here. I was having trouble with a buzzing string and Josh fixed it for me. He even custom-made a truss rod cover for the guitar since mine was missing. The service took a little longer that they had originally quoted me, but I think they still deserve 5 stars because of the great service. Josh even remembered me by name when I came in.
What a great business to have in our community. Fantastic work, great price. Could not be happier with my experience. Thank you Guitar House Workshop.
Best techs in the city. Great guys. Cant recommend them enough.
Took my seagull S6 in to get a nice setup, even a beginner such as myself could tell it was in dire need of it. waited a little over two weeks to get it back as there were a good few guitars in front of mine. price was completely fair as well.I have been playing this seagull hours every day now....I didnt think it was possible for this guitar to play this well, and sound this good. They truly are magicians here. my guitar went from unbearable to irreplaceable. I commend you all for the work you do, you earned every bit of the 5 star rating.
Love this gem of a music store! During my most recent visit, I was checking out their banjo pick supply. Being female, I find most picks are big and bulky. I was telling John about a set of mini picks I once had and havent been able to replace, and he took the liberty (and time) to make me a set. He sawed, clipped and shaped them into the most perfect picks Ive ever used! A sturdy display of customer service, and innovation!
This is my favorite instrument repair/retail shop in Columbus, Ohio! Recently I purchased a used Weber Yellowstone mandolin that required a decent bit of work to get sounding incredible. John Bolzenius and his staff gave me great advice and an amazing price to complete the work. A week later the work on mandolin was complete and it was sounding and feeling great! I will not hesitate to bring my guitars, mandolins and my wifes banjos to John for setups. Thanks Guitar Workshop!
This is a great place to buy an instrument or get one repaired. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to help. Great service and great people!!
I needed my Martin updated and tuned in time for an unexpected performance. The Guitar House was booked solid but managed to get it done in time for a very reasonable price. Very nice folks!
Brought in my new acoustic for a professional setup. They told me it would play like butter when they were done with it, and they did not disappoint! I wont go anywhere else from this point on, and now I understand why there can be a pretty long waitlist to get in. Reasonable prices, super knowledgable staff, and friendly service.
Amazing, skilled, and dedicated craftsmen! I had them install a bone nut on my Fender Strat and set it up. It now plays like an instrument that would cost hundreds more. The difference is night and day. I cant believe how much better it plays after the set up.John and everyone in the shop are tremendously skilled and knowledgeable. As active players and instrument builders they possess extraordinary instrumental acumen. They are current with the latest trends in guitar building and repair, and astir in their pursuit of great playability and tone.If you need your instrument repaired or improved - you need look no further. Additionally, the atmosphere in the shop is relaxed, all the Luthiers at the shop are patient with your questions, and they are wonderful to work with. What a great shop!
Excellent work. Friendly, helpful, and fair staff. Ive had GHW work on all of my guitars for various reasons (setups, repairs, upgrades, etc) and theyve never disappointed. I cant recommend them highly enough!
Love this place and will take all of my future g-mods to them. Just recently replaced a strat neck and asked them to change the 2 humbuckers and set up my new custom neck (for low action) also. Not only was the project done on time, the neck set up is perfect and the pickups work flawlessly... and the staff couldnt be friendlier.
The folks at Guitar House Workshop are first rate luthiers. Ive had many guitars set up and repaired but was really surprised at what they did with a banjo of mine. Sent it in for some fret work and adjustment and it came back a new instrument. The change in tone and playability was just astounding. Ive been playing on and off for 25 years and really didnt expect that depth of knowledge. Their prices are more than fair especially for the level of work completed. As an added bonus they are really nice people too who will advise you to the best recommendation, not an upsell.
Asked for some help getting my new les Paul set up. The lady I talked to didn’t seem to know what she was talking about and kept asking one of the guitar techs there the questions I was asking her. So I would say something like “I have an appointment on such and such date, can you let me know a little about what the set up would entail for my specific guitar” and she would say hold on let me ask...”he wants to know what a set up would entail” After a couple more questions I asked if I could have one of the techs call me back when they weren’t so busy” She actually told me they didn’t have the time. I told her my appointment was 3 weeks away and I just wanted to speak with a tech for 5 minutes about my appointment. She once again told me “I don’t think they’ll have the time do that”. Literally said “unbelievable” and cancelled my appointment. I’ll take my money somewhere that cares enough to be on the phone with me or return a call for 5 minutes. Sheesh
The Guitar House did a great job on repairing a headstock crack on my Les Paul. They were only one of two stores that would attempt to fix the problem. The only reason I have four stars is that the first time I brought the guitar to them the repair didnt hold and the finish on the back of the neck was rubbing off when I would play it. When I brought the guitar back to them they made sure it would be almost impossible to have the headstock break again. And another issue is the time. For me personally I play on a weekly basis and it was about 2 months or so to get it back the second time my guitar was in the shop. Saying that, they did do a great job reinforcing the guitar neck and refinishing. After talking with them they clearly know what they are doing and capable of. They kept me up to date on everything they did on my guitar and Im very pleased with the end result.
They did an amazing job at re-crowning and setting up my tele. They take their time and do it right!
Just got home from picking up my Telecaster that I had purchased online. It had been in dire need of a setup. The intonation was wonky, action felt wrong and it kept fretting out when bending the B-string past the 12th fret. I was a pretty disappointed when I first got the guitar but after the Guitar House adjusted it, it plays like a new instrument. I couldnt be happier! Outstanding work and reasonably priced. Thanks!
Dedicated to you, the player. John, Josh and Linda want you to be a happy, ever improving player. I always look forward to my visits to the Guitar House Workshop.
These guys are downright amazing. I took them my 1954 Gibson J-45, they fixed about 2 feet of cracks for me, and installed a under saddle transducer pickup. I had them install a new bridge as well so that the pickup would work correctly. They did the work for less than anywhere else i was quoted, and In addition to that, it was done perfectly. They also worked on a good friend of mines 1967 Fender Startocaster the fret board planned down flat and it was impossible to play. They did a re-fret on that guitar, adding the correct radius back in, and it gave the guitar a new life. I would trust them with any guitar repair you could think of, they know there stuff.
I took in my Thinline Telecaster and received the best setup Ive ever had in my life. The skill of the staff is unparalleled. Cant believe how well my Tele plays now...it sings. The staff is also extremely friendly and attentive. Before even touching my guitar, Josh asked all the right questions and I could tell from the get go that he knew what he was doing. Even picking up the guitar was a great experience. I walked in 45 minutes after closing, not knowing that the shop was closed, and they still let me pick up my guitar...and were friendly about it! Couldnt ask for more and I wont be going anywhere else!
Incredibly nice guy, highly knowledgable and fast--repaired my ukulele for me while on tour and wouldnt even take a tip! Cant recommend this shop for repairs enough!
The staff is very friendly great prices and your issues are taken care of in a speedy manner Overall great experience
Can not say enough about this. Customer service is great and the work is outstanding.
Great looking interior with friendly staff!
Update soon john is going to make it right
Phenomenal experience with Guitar House.
