Called them on the phone first and they said they would check out my vehicle for free estimate on repair. I told them it was leaking fluid and wouldnt shift into 2nd or 3rd that it was slipping at which they said if its losing fluid it would slip so they would see where it was leaking from and that it might just need to be resealed. They recommended and sent Express towing to pick up my vehicle. The tow truck driver broke a part on my vehicle so they said 200 dollars to check it out. The cost ended up costing 285 dollars to fix and they had to fix it before they could checkout the transmission so I let them fix it. They said that they then put transmission fluid in my vehicle and and told me the same thing that I had already told them on the phone before they picked it up and that the transmission was bad and my front hub bearings were bad. ( I had the brakes fixed not long ago and my mechanic had checked the bearings already and they were good.) They did not fix it I had the vehicle towed back home at an additional cost. I would not recommend them or ever use them again.

I got a quote from the dealership on October 26, 2020, about repairs that needed to be done on my car to include a transmission which is how I got to AAMCO Transmission. I spoke with James on October 30, 2020 and he was very upfront with me about what might be happening with my car. He said bring it in and we will do a free diagnostic on it. He kept his word. November 3, 2020 he looked at all of the repairs I was told I needed for my car to include the transmission, exhaust manifold, struts and more. He gave me a quote on each, which was much lower than the dealership. While waiting on my ride, James explained to me the importance of doing your due diligence on your car in order to keep from paying for expensive repairs. I got the top dog bone mount, top strut mount, PS Switch and VC gasket repairs done and my car was ready on November 5, 2020. After paying for and picking up my car, I noticed I could not turn the steering wheel, and my windows would not go up automatically as before. I started to get concerned but Joe, the mechanic, quickly began to make sure that my car was good to drive. He also told me to bring it back and he would reprogram the windows, as it was the close of business on this day. As I drove my car home it was not vibrating anymore, which is what I took it in for in the first place! November 6, 2020 my car was doing the same thing I could not drive it. James had it towed back to his shop at no charge to me. Joe looked at everything and found a bad washer to be the problem, he also did as promised and got my windows programmed and working like normal. My car was ready for pick up on November 9, 2020. My car is running well as I write this review on November 14, 2020.

I conversed with James regarding driving challenges I was experiencing. He told me there would be a free diagnostics and quoted me $2200.00 for labor and a used transmission if that be the problem. I then had my vehicle towed to 2428 Broadriver of Columbia, SC on December 23rd or 24th 2020. Understanding the holidays, I gave the business ample time to complete the job. I rented a car for transportation for two weeks totaling in the amount of $875.00. On Tuesday Jan. 5th 2021 I popped up at the location and spoke with James. He said there had been 2 bad transmissions from what he noted as a reputable vendor. I requested James to call the vendor to see the earliest another transmission could arrive. James said the vendor said by Friday Jan. 8th and the car would be ready on Saturday. I called the location on Monday Jan. 11th. James said he would call me back with an update. At 5pm I had not heard from AMMCO and I called. James said, they were working on the installation and the car would be ready Jan. 12th. On January 12th, I received a call at 10:12am and James asked me to come in to speak with him. I said whats going on? lets go ahead and talk. He said the third transmission came in and it was also bad and there was nothing else he could do. I said well put my vehicle back together and I will pick it up. He said my vehicle would not be ready until Friday Jan 15, 2021, According to research and competitive businesss the job is a 6-7hr job. James stated the job was a 2 day job. We were disconnected, I called back, he was very nasty mannered and said the car will be ready Friday and thats when you will pick it up and he hung up. I text him and told him he was being very unprofessional and he had until the end of business on Jan. 12, 2021 to complete my car and I will see him soon. He tried to take it as a threat and communicated a restraining order. He further text to me, his desire was for me not to come to the property without authorities. I contacted the Richland County and made a report. The officer contacted James and his whole story changed. He then said my car would be ready Wednesday Jan. 13, 2021 for pick up. It was further noted that this company does not have a reputable representation, in addition to the unethical operations inscribed in the business reviews. In times such as these, people better be careful... how they treat people.

Took my car in for over heating (needed the heads done) talked us in to getting another engine. They put that one in and it blew. Got a second engine they put it in(1500.00 is what they charged) In the process they broke the blower motor to my ac (850.00 to be fixed at ford) and put the hoses on the engine on backwards( 480.00 to be fixed at ford) we had to pay( 200.00 to have it towed to ford).. so with that being said we had to spend a total of 3000.00 dollars to get our car fixed. 1500.00 of it was unnecessary if the this company would have been more cautious and careful with our car. Asc= you know what you are doing in your case not you put the hose on wrong is to why our engine kept reading hot. Just a little advice learn to speek clear English go back to school and get a better understanding about cars.. your company cost us 1500.00 dollars of unnecessary money... yall have no clue of what yall are doing... thanks for costing us more money... I hope God shows you the right way to do your fellow people..

James was very nice and friendly. He was able to schedule an appointment, for me, and get my car fixed, within a matter of a couple of days. I called on a Friday; appointment was made for Monday; and my car was fixed and ready to drive Monday evening (I didnt pick up until Tuesday). I had compared other local shops, for the same service, and his price, by far, was the most affordable one ($200 to $300 cheaper !). My sons car, a 2008 Mazda 3, is no longer leaking oil! Thank you, James. I will recommend others to your business.

If i can give this place -5 stars i would. This shop has had my car for over a month. At first they told me it would be 575 plus tax to fix my car but when my dealership told me it would be 675 plus tax. They received a purchas order from my car dealership on the 20th but didnt order my used gas tank till the 30th... Who does that? This man has no explanation and only kept telling me oh we dont habe the part i will call you. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.Update to the response below: you are an absolute LIAR!

I would whole heartedly recommend taking your vehicle here. The owner was kind, professiona,l honest and very straight forward. And when some of my repairs were beyond De scope of De services that he provided, he recommended good people he knew would be able to do De work. It’s rare to see people who still take pride in their work these days. Thanks for caring.

I called this shop on 7/12/16 about my transmission, the gentleman was very polite and scheduled me in immediately. I went to two other places previously including the dealership and they both told me it was my transmission and told me that it would cost in excess of $3000 to get it repaired. This shop did a complete diagnosis and found out that it was the knock sensor that was causing the transmission to shift improperly. The repair was done for less than $300 and I was out the same day. I highly recommend this shop to others as they are honest and upfront.Oh by the way, there is no TV in the lobby, only a small radio tuned in to the Bible Broadcasting Network. I totally enjoyed the sermon while waiting.

Odd service, odd tale...Strange feeling, strange people...when something feels off it is. My car Chrysler Town and Country will only change gears in hot weather and whines sometimes. They told me it was a solenoid issue but it cant be because it was replaced in 2015. They said the diagnostic was unclear and wouldnt tell me the rest of the results until i paid 400 dollars!! I am taking it somewhere else to get more professional opinion...Bonus: They never called to tell me about my car. Had to call them, were they going to let my car sit forever until someone noticed...come on guys!

In August 2017 as I was driving my daughter to Univ of So Carolina, my late model Voyager minivan began losing transmission fluid. A visit to the Columbia AAA garage found that ghe transmission pump seal was cracked. I looked down the list of transmission shops online and picked AAMCO. I was a little uncertain when I walked into the ancient lobby, a relic of the 1960s, but the incredibly gracious owner, James, reassured me that I would be able to get on the road for home that day. The van needed two seals and an O ring, but my van got done by late afternoon, and has not lost one drop of fluid since. Work came in only a few dollars over the original estimate (because more parts were needed) and that was fine with me. I deeply appreciate the help in getting back home in time to get back to work. Thank you and God bless!

Terrible service! Charged me hundreds of dollars more than they quoted me and kept saying my car would be ready the next day! It took 15 days for my simple repair to get done! They also ask google to delete their reviews because I left a bad review here before detailing what they did to me. Why are there no google reviews? AVOID THIS REPAIR SHOP AT ALL COSTS! Theyll try to scam you like they did me!

I took my girlfriend 2014 Nissan Versa to this shop, they told me it was a CVT Transmission. I made the decision to have the car tow to a different spot Action Transmission. I was told that it is not a transmission problem, AAMCO Transmission said they would charge me $2,000 to replace it with a used one and install include. I was able to get more opinion and save my self the money, Im taking this car to Dick Smith Nissan and have it check. After looking at the review on this business it give me a second idea, thanks a lot people. Reviewing the business owner responses, he never denied his fraud he is committing either which makes me realized he is proud of committing fraud and taking people money. I will never take my damn car there ever.

The service I received was extremely terrible. I was charged $400 for an internal inspection that doesnt even exist. When I then tried talking to the manager about him cheating me, he felt accused. James Chu should not run a shop where hes allowed to cheat people. I will never bring anything that runs with a motor to him ever again if Im in South Carolina. Hes a fraud.
