I can’t say enough good things about lains! I was running an errand one the block over from this shop when my car battery died. I walked over, and the owner walked over, gave me a jump and explained some of the issues my car may be having super professional and willing to help. It was a great experience and if I need anything done in the area I’d come to them in a heartbeat!

I have a hardtop convertible Volvo that needed the check engine light diagnosed. I dropped the car off before Labor Day and when I didn’t hear from them I called to ask about my car. No diagnose for the light and a hundred dollars later, I picked the car up Tuesday this week and tried to put the top down on Friday. The contact points for the upholstery were undone for the front portion of the roof. It’s impossible for that to happen on its own. Of course Lain’s said they didn’t touch it. Can’t be true. I won’t use them again.

I took my car over for a MD State inspection and oil change. Folks at the shop are calm, organized and don’t beat around the bush. Rich did a great job! He took the time to explain what I needed to do next to keep the car running and in good standing. Don’t hesitate to give them a call if you ever need any repairs done on your car! They’re great at what they do and the repair costs are reasonable.

I was from otta town and my ac compressor was locked up not allowing the pulley to turn freely and the belt was melting. I was quoted 1500$ and at the end it was 2375$. I was lucky to have found this shop because he got me in and out but on my way home to ga less than one week later my ac was blowing hot. My guy at home said it was a leaking shrader valve and a vacuum leak. I was happy with the service time just wish the quote was a lot closer to the price and that I didnt have to spend more money on the ac when I just spent 2375$!

They did a very good job on the inspection of my car. They were quick, affordable, and professional. They even pumped up my tires for me for free and made sure all of the inflation was even, after the Toyota dealership screwed up and pumped up one tire super high and deflated all the others. Overall, Im very happy.

LIKELY SCAMMERS, BEWARE!They tried to charge me $360 for a 1998 Honda distributor. I Looked up the price online and it was $60 max. So I bought the distributor online and confronted them about the price, they denied hiking up the price even with convincing evidence.I tried to install the distributor myself but was unsuccessful, so I asked them to just replace my old distributor with the one I bought and Ill pay labor fee. A day later I get a call saying that one of my new distributors metal notches broke off because I had install it wrong.Looking at the physical shape (picture attached below) of the notches, and knowing how its attached to the engine, I cant fathom how that could have happened. And if that really happened, why it was only one of the notches that broke off. Considering how they straight up denied hiking up the prices, I cant help but imagine that they broke my new distributor on purpose to cover up their own lies.Besides the absurd inspection fee and the blatant lies, they at one point, after I had confronted they about hiking the price, called out all of their employees to crowd intimidate me. I would NOT get any type of service here.

Took my car in for a Maryland Inspection and I was very pleased with the level of service I received. Rich was extremely professional and knowledgeable - and the customer service was on point. I highly recommend Lains Auto and I will definitely let them take care of my auto needs.

Greedy and potentially dishonest. Won’t be going back.Can’t speak on their quality of work but took my car there for inspection and was failed on a few little things and brakes. Price for repair was way more expensive than what was listed on the KBB recommended price range. Also told me that if I got the repairs somewhere else, I would have to pay an added $60 re-inspection fee.Got my car inspected at Shell down the road and they did not look for things to fail like Lains did and also gave a much better quote on the brakes.Lains showed greedy practices and I definitely won’t be going back for maintenance, inspection or anything else.

Its hard say you enjoy a trip to the mechanic. But I have yet to visit Lains and leave with a pit. My couple of visits have been great experiences. They havent done unnecessary work. They havent over charged me (for a mechanic shop, their labor isnt ridiculous). They have good hours and nice staff. Always got a quick turn around time. And of course, everything has worked when I left. No returns bad work or faulty parts.These are my mechanics :).

I have been bringing my car to this shop ever since we first moved to the DC area back in 2014. Brian and his team are absolutely outstanding. Routine oil & filter changes are done in about an hour and I typically wait with my kids at a local diner. I like to work on my cars and as such am very particular about who works on them – I’ve trusted Brian since Day 1 as he never tried upselling any additional, unneeded services and is straight-to-the-point, don’t-fix-it-if-it-ain’t-broken kind of a guy. What I particularly care about in this day & age of retail chains and mega dealership is a small, family-owned business that puts its reputation for customer satisfaction at the TOP of their priority list. And Brian & his team do exactly that!There has been some turn-over lately, which is just the nature of the business unfortunately, but I have recently noticed an attempt by the new personnel to squeeze in an extra flush here & there or replace parts on an accelerated maintenance schedule, so keep an eye out if you truly need these items and check your owner’s manual about whether the recommendations agree with your cars’ maintenance schedule.Overall – I would still HIGHLY RECOMMEND Lain’s.

I woke up on a Friday morning and was greeted by the loud sound of metal grinding on metal coming from somewhere under my car, with a suspicious smell to go with it. Im a student at UMD and live near campus so i was too far from home to go to my usual trusted car shop, and did not have anywhere to safely lift my car up to check it out for myself.When i called Lains Auto Services the employee on the phone took the time to carefully listen to my problems, which is a hard level of service to come by when youre a younger college student. They said they would be able to diagnose the problem a soon as i could get there, and when i arrived they had the bay waiting for me with a mechanic that was eager to get right to work on it.From that point forward, Lains went above and beyond. They offered me some fresh coffee, and the mechanic and i had a cup while talking about my car and its issues. I told them about how busy i was and they could see i was stressed, so they set me up in their lobby with a nice area to do some school work while i was waiting. In one hour they fixed my issue, let me go into the shop so i could see what went wrong for myself, taught me how to analyze my brake pads/rotors for ware so i would know when i needed replacements (which i didnt yet, they just wanted to make sure i wouldnt get taken advantage of in the future in case i had to go to another new shop), and fixed another small issue i had with my ignition coils that had to do with me improperly doing my own repair in the past. Oh yeah, and they only charged me for the diagnosis.Lains Auto Service made me feel like i was in good hands while away from home and in a desperate situation, so for that they made a life long customer.

I cannot recommend Lains highly enough. They are honest, treat their customers with respect, clean, timely, and personable. They will always explain something to me if I dont understand or know anything about it and do so without making me feel stupid. Over the years theyve serviced five of our cars and have led me to make good selling and buying decisions, whether on purpose or simply as a matter of course. As long as we live in this area, Lains - and Brian in particular - will have our business.

Came here to get a Maryland state inspection. They were very flexible and easy to work with. I liked how casual the interaction was. The location is also pretty convenient; I was able to just go down the street to Starbucks to work for awhile while they did the inspection. They have coffee available in their small lobby as well, and you could work there, though I dont know if they have wifi. I recommended this place to my wife to get her cars inspection.

My daughter brought her car there because she had problems with power steering which had just been fixed when she was home from school! They couldnt have been kinder to her. Fixed the shoddy work by another mechanic. Done same day and reasonable cost! Very honest, friendly and trustworthy!

Super legit mechanic shop. I had to take my LS in for an alternator change, head gaskets were leaking oil on the alt. Price was very fair. Most importantly, very responsive and comprehensive. While I was waiting to pick up my car a young lady was getting a price to have her car Maryland inspected. Dana was very honest with her and let her know everything that needed to be done and reccomend she just dump the car instead of investing the money required to bring it to inspection status. Not often you hear that kind of honesty! Ill be back for sure. Thank you to all the mechanics and Dana!

Ive taken two cars at two different times. Both times I received the best service and outstanding professionalism. I would recommend this place to anyone needing anything done to their car. I received my car back before the time quoted and at a cost much lower then I would have thought. I never once felt as if they were trying to get more out of me. If I were staying in this area I wouldnt allow anyone else to touch my car other then Lains.

The guys at Lains are truly wonderful. I have had the misfortune to need a few semi-major repairs this year and the folks at Lains have been so welcoming, accommodating, sincere, and honest. Each time I have had my car in for repairs they communicate with me every step of the way, give me a clearly explained estimate before any work is done, and not once has the final bill been more than the initial quote, on one occasion it was actually lower because they were able to avoid an unnecessary repair. I am so happy I found this shop and could not more highly recommend them.

Recently moved to MD so I needed a new mechanic. I was told right before I moved that I needed to have my tie rods replaced. Just couldnt do it before I moved. I read reviews for numerous auto repair shops near my house and selected Lains. They let me know that I also needed the ball joints replaced. They were great keeping me informed about how long the repair would take. It wound up going into the next day, but they did finish before 9am the next morning. When I arrived to pick up my car, they showed me the parts that had been removed. I was happy with the service and would go back again.

Bryan and his guy Rob are doing an excellent job.I had an annoying hard to find electrical problem with my work van was looking for a car electrician, got to Lains Auto Services with all those good reviews it took them 10 minutes to find the problem and another 20 to fix it and i can say found my mechanic.professional honest affordable.

Ive been getting my car serviced here and Ive never been ripped off. They are top notched guys besides being very friendly and honest.

The owner was in constant contact with me to let me know how everything was progressing and when an issue arose what the solution would be with an estimate for both time and cost. Originally went with another shop for an electrical issue they said they would fix but just ended up wasting days in the shop knly for them to make it worse. Lains got it right the first time.

There is a new owner and he is also one of the mechanics. Work was completed in a very timely manner and the estimate was spot on. Great job. Definitely found my mechanic for all future needs.P.S. They even have Saturday hours

I stopped by Lains Auto last Saturday (March 29, 2014) to get a quote on a mechanical repair. They were closed. Apparently the owner Brian had something more important to do. I checked the website the night before and the hours were listed as 7am - 2 pm. I was there around 11 am. If you are running your own business and want to take time off, hire a manager to run the business.

He wont sell you things you dont need, and if they can wait a little while before you need to bear the expense he will tell you that as well. So - I actually went to Lains based on other Google Reviews.The place is clean and friendly.I had an electrical problem which my regular mechanic wouldnt touch on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.Not only did Brian get me and out while I waited (1.5 hr), but he did so without having an appointment. Not only did he fix the problem (left rear tail-light and right rear turn signal being out), but he also showed me how the problem happened. And explained that its a known problem in Jeeps (go figure!).He also showed me how to fix it the next time it happens so that I DONT have to go back to the mechanic or Lains for the rather simple fix.

The worst mechanics I have ever encounter. They charged me $100 to tell me that I needed a new transmission and they wanted another $100 to diagnose the engine because they took 3 hours to diagnose the transmission just to tell me that I needed a new transmission. I am sure they were going to tell me that I was going to need another engine too. This guys can not even read the codes in your car maybe they can but after 3 hours. Be warned this guys are worthless.

Terrible service. They failed to diagnose an engine problem, but charged me anyway. They sold me a battery with a dead cell which would not hold a charge. They took apart under the dash and failed to put it back together.
