Loved the small grocer! I got the harissa, pita (that is made fresh daily), hummus + short bread cookies! All were divine. Want to go back to eat in the restaurant part.
Since I started shopping there and trying their cafe, they have continued to impress! This place has the best Middle Eastern food around! They have a relatively small menu but they have huge portions of food! The combination plate is my go-to and the meat is always so juicy and well-cooked, with a nice char flavor to it. The rice is moist and delicious and salad is fresh. But that hummus is to die for! Really rich and not sour or dry like store-bought hummus. Pitas are big and freshly baked in-store; not dry at all. Sauces are yummy!Price-wise definitely well-worth it and fair. Try the meat pies by the grocery side plus their baklava which for me is the best I’ve had so far!
Wanna learn how to cook middle eastern food and buy all your ingredients in one store? This is it.A whole bunch of dry spices that are affordable. Come here instead of buying at the regular grocery store.Great selection of olive oil and bread they bring in fresh every day. They have a great selection of premade hummus, dips and they also carry a bunch of cheese.Great place to check out
If you like middle eastern breads... Dont buy them for anywhere but this bakery! Oh my God! The freshness cant be missed. Their collection of grocery items is also great.
Great selection! The hummus is creamy and addictive! They have awesome pastries too! Also grab some Turkish delight! Its very solid!
I LOVE this place. all the food is so good and fresh.
We sent to the grocery side to get meat pies. These are literally the best meat pies Ive had in my life and they are only a couple bucks. They have a dozen types but I usually stick with the plain seasoned ground beef ones. We bought 10 so we could freeze and reheat them as easy meals, which works great!
We like buying their homemade Empanadas in many flavors. This time I picked up 2 new flavors 1- Lentils hand pies and 1- Artichoke hand pie. My sister bought her 6 hand pies. My sister also bought 1lbs. Pickled Turnips freshly made in house. They also revamped this store and they have a Resturant in the front of building. To enter used to be the front, now we enter in the back of the building. So, When you see the store you enter in the glassed area. They have so many spices, humus, coffee, hookahs, candies, drinks, cold beverages in the fridge. And I took pictures of their homemade candies which I bought 2. 1 Pistachios & Pomegranate. & 1. Honey on the ends and a nougat with pistachios in white.
I just moved to the area and tried out this place while exploring the Foster/Clark area in Andersonville. And ooh, the food was so good. They were very generous and just so good. Price is fitting for amount of food you get and they have a cute grocery store attached which is nice.
I am a frequent shopper in the original market. It is full of unique foods. My home fridge always has their sauces, dips, or pies inside.
An absolute gem! A friend recommended stopping in for breakfast and snacks, I wish I came in sooner! There is an amazing selection of goods here, but my particular favorites were the Turkish delights and baklava. I have never seen so many flavors! I picked up a mixed pack of each and some little hand pastries (sorry, I dont know the name) that were in a case. Everything was so delicious, I almost loaded up my suitcase before my flight! I am really looking forward to coming back here again!
This is hands down the best place to buy spices in the city of Chicago. Regardless of if you are looking for blends or individual spices - this is the place. The restaurants has delicious food, you can get baked goods and home made prepared food to go.Ive been shopping here for what seems like forever, and still manage to find some new flavor after ~20 years!
This place has the best baklava Ive ever had. Any time Im in Andersonville I have to stop in to grab some. They have amazing high-quality spices and a huge variety of dry goods, all at an insane value! I love their peppercorns!
Fantastic food The chicken Shawarma was delicious
Awesome bakery/grocery store. Great selection of hand pies (with vegan options). Made fresh and daily. Also fresh falafel and kibe! The grocery portion has a amazing selection of flours, spices and dry goods. The have a fridge full of wonderful house made middle eastern dishes (spices rice, tabouli, humus, ect). Highly recommend this for staple and on the go shopping.
If you want a authentic pastries and food that are fresh and delicious you have to come here. The staff was also super nice and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant with a lot of fresh food next to the bakery .
The gyro plate was delicious! I looked in the bakery/store and was really excited by the fresh hummus, and a case full of yummy meat pies. I would like to return and begin eating my way through the case
Fantastic selection of middle eastern foods. I really like their lentil soup and hummus selections.
It is always a good idea to get to this store! I love the spices, the Turkish Delights, & the Fresh home made bread their hand pies ( meat, spinach and feta, and the lentil ones). Of course, don’t miss to stop at the grill for a good meal ( I love the beef kebab). This is a business to keep in business.
The best place ever! They were super helpful and they made a sandwich that I asked for even though it wasnt it their menu! Loved it! So delicious!
Disappointed that staff at the grill were not properly wearing masks when preparing food. The mask has to go over mouth and nose. Ugh. Would not have ordered if I had seen this ahead of time.
Absolutely a special location. The best hummus in Chicago and a significant variety of choices. The shawarma is always tasty and very flavorful with fresh ingredients. Fairly priced too. The grocery store is almost underpriced.
We eat here 2-3 times a week. Great food and good service. I highly recommend the Combination Meat plate!
Count me as another one of their fans. Delicious pies. I love the eggs and feta one but all are good. Dip with their harissa. Heat up before eating for max flavor. I also like their selection of Greek and Bulgarian goat and sheep cheeses.
They charge a NON CASH ADJUSTMENT fee of 4 percent. I spent over $100 and was not offered a receipt until I asked. I paid with debit card. This is against the credit card companys policies for merchants. I do not carry that much cash and 99 percent of the people I saw paying used cards. This fee is not disclosed verbally and I saw no sign.
Decent food and service; although I have a sentiment that I wanted more service, I think their service is great for their price point.
Very tasty shawarma and their little meat & veg pies are amazing, especially lamb and potato. Love the versatility of being able to get a huge, delicious meal and stock up the fridge with some middle eastern essentials for home.
If you enjoy middle eastern fare, you must go. An assortment of hand pies, soups, hummus, and flatbread. Wonderful!
Great food. Best chicken and beef shawerma ever. Also delicious Humus👌
Overall: Great spot for a casual and great tasting meal with of course the option to shop around. The good: Great tasting food with a very authentic feel to it. Cheap too, for what you get. The sizes are good portioned for the menu. Salad and sandwich were great. The bad: Actual sit-down area is semi-small and louder. The service couldve been friendlier and a little quicker. Not given a lot of napkins or attention. I expected a little bit better of the falafel sandwich, cause the regular balls looked awesome.Atmosphere: 8/10Service: 9/10Food: 9/10
Good food without a gimmick. A nice place to grab a meal to go, Ive had all good experiences.
Been going here for many years. Great fresh-made food (the kibbe is awesome). Also a good resource for all you middle eastern cooking needs.
Literally the best fresh packaged middle eastern food to go I’ve ever had. Their curated selections are very reasonably priced, practical and mesmerizing. Which means I can’t wait to come back 😍 special place.
Theyve got the good West bank Olive Oil. And spinach pies. What more do you need?
Highly recommend it. Best Shawerma, Humus and Falafil. Will definitely come back👌🏼
Such great food! This institution has a well- deserved reputation for amazing food. The spinach pies set the standard and there are many more varieties to explore.
This place has the BEST Arabic food Ive ever had. Its CONSISTENTLY good too. You wont get that often. This is a favorite place of my girlfriend and I. Unbelievably wholesome food.
Stupendous, very fresh pita and hummus. Highly recommend the spicy and ginger garlic flavors, and the lentil-stuffed dolmas. I like place a to go order then hit the little grocery store. Food is generally ready right about the time Im checking out. They offer a small cash discount.
I love the grocery section of this place! It has so manny good and different foods! I recommend getting the hot soujouk! It is not two spicy but it is packed with flavor! The vegan lentil soups and all of the humus and pita is delicious. The cashiers are very nice and kind. All in all this place is definitely 5 stars!
Good food and really good hummus. They do get very busy and the line was very long and it took about 40 mins to get my order. You can also buy alot of items, such as the hummus, at the attached grocery store to avoid the long lines.
Their pastries are just out of this world. I had the egg and feta one the other day and it was delicious and very cheap. They also sell baklava, hummus, and all manner of other fresh grocery items. The staff was very nice too.
Food is good. Service is slow 🤷🏾♂️
Awesome little grocery store. Pies are incredible (especially the spinach). Friendly staff.
Easy shopping, lucky parking space. Bought excellent garlic hummus, pita and olives. Delicious!!
Excellent food at the restaurant and bakery! Probably the best in town. Everything I have tried was great, but my favorites are the Beef Kebob plate, the shawafel wrap, and any of the hand pies from the bakery.
Middle Eastern food…that’s what I can say not spectacular but it’s food you will get full. The grocery is a nice addition though, if you actually cook at home explore the grocery this restaurant provides and maybe you can cook your own Middle Eastern dish.
Love this local spot! Always my place to go to stock up on falafel, dates, and tahini! Sometimes I surrender to the baklava too! 😂
Really love the hummus, tabouli, vegan handpies here! There is also an amazing sundried tomato spread. Its hard for me to walk by without going in to get some hummus
Cute little middle eastern store.
Ive been to a lot of shawarma joints in the city and this place is hands down the best place for chicken shawarma in Chicago. What stands out the most for me is the fact that everything is made from scratch. Their freshly made pitas, their special blend of spices and sauces, fresh and HIGH quality vegetables, and presentation are all what separates this place from others. I believe this is due to the fact that they have a full line of middle eastern grocery thats attached to the restaurant. The staff is super friendly, the bathrooms are clean, and the dining room has a modern touch to the old world middle eastern dining experience. If you enjoy middle eastern street food or just need a quick tasty bite you have to come here.
The grill/restaurant is not worth your time. the food takes FOREVER! no matter the order. mine was babaghnouj & baklava. waited 20 god damn minutes! 2 “cooks” and the register guy. needless to say avoid. the pita wasnt warmed on the grill top! removed from bag, halved and served! what a freaking insult to mediterranean cuisinewhomever(s) awarded the “Chicago’s Best” viewer approved needs to updated and removed.i have no positive comments
They serve the best lentil soup, shawarma, and falafel in the Northside. The grocery side of the operation offers a wide range of hard-to-find ingredients, spices, and take-home meals.
Eat the savory pies in the grocery section. You will not regret it.
Been going here for a few years. They have the spices Im looking for and the Sesame cookies are the best.
Absolutely phenomenal food; pita was so fresh it melts in your mouth. The people were really nice, and the selection was excellent. Fast with the takeout too.
I came to get some food and when I entered I was looking at the shawarma to choose which one I want to order, the guy with the beard who is cutting the shawarma was looking at me thinking I am looking at him and he started to talk B.S in Arabic about me to the other co workers thinking I dont understand Arabic .. and then I let it go . I went to buy some drinks and came back waiting for the my food and the guy was still looking at me and talking B.S and the other coworkers were laughing ...I went to confront him and he acted cowardly and denied it saying he was talking about something else ..when he was looking at me since I entered and giving me weird looks because of my dark skin ... I never had such experience like this before and i will never come back for sure .
I go to this place to get inspired. So many fresh spices and flavorful add-ons. I usually leave with a savory pie or four.
I LOOOOVE this place! The food is absolutely amazing and there are so many delicious treats in the store. Hands down the best in the city. Im amazed at the amount of flavor and the quality for the price. I take two buses or an Uber across town to eat/shop here and my only regret when I get home is that I should have bought more. My favorites are the grape leaves and the combination plate (kebab, kafta and shawarma with rice, pita and salad); and the garlic chive feta dip will change your life!
Love this place. Get the baklava from their shop...and bonus...most of them are vegan
Been going here for 30 years, give or take. The bakery items are always fresh and delicious, and I love having access to a variety of top quality grocery staples and sweets from around the Middle East.
The sights, the smells, the delicious food. Wonderful!
Best food and market in Andersonville— hands down! Always a delightful lunch to grab around the corner. Friendly customer service and a diverse selection of affordable market items. Great prices on loose-leaf teas, if you’re also a tea person ☕️This food is vibrant, fresh, and satisfying. You will not regret stopping here for your next tote-bag grocery run or for a homemade hand pie.
Lovely people and good selection of food at the grocery. The attached restaurant is also great with huge portions
They have the best gyros! Tender meat on top a fluffy pita so delicious.
Easily one of the best little markets in chicago. Delightful cheap hand pies, fresh food, great selection of Mediterranean groceries.
Love theyre gyros. They have a good amount of meat on them
They had a lot of great things like figs and dates and middle Eastern and Mediterranean supplies to make great dishes services really nice as well
Vast selection, always fresh. We went to grocery side of store.
Super yummy food. The store has wonderful tea selection. The food is super yummy, oh wait I said that already. The staff is super nice. I really appreciate the staff knowledge on products and teas.
Kufta was the best Ive had outside of the Balkans. Best Baklava Ive ever had, gyro was fantastic and the grape leaves are unbelievable.
Good food at a reasonable price!
Awesome middle eastern food and market. Very high quality and worth every penny.
I only had the falafel and No, they tasted old and they were hard as ever, and were not served hot but Luke warm
Phenomenal location! Their store has the best hummus Ive ever had. Everyone who works there are so kind and help. Love this local spot!
Clean. Well lit. Well stocked. Helpful staff. Great mix of packaged and prepared food. Nice selection of breads and packaged pastries. Ditto with oils, coffees, and teas. Fair prices.
Best place ever, the food is so good and well prepared, stuff are very nice, place is very clean as well.
Good Shawarma plates and burritod
Im from the Metro Detroit area where there are tons of good Arabic food sources and restaurants. This Chicago establishment is on par with anything I can get in Dearborn or the metro area.
A well known place on Clark & foster. The menu gives many options. The food is well prepared and generous portions. I would like to thank the employees for great service during these difficult times!!!
Delicious food. We had a chicken shawarma and falafel sandwich. Quick, friendly service.
One of my good friend took me here to try out the food. It is such an affordable place. I ordered Falafel wrap and Lentil Vegetable soup, all under $9.00. Best thing about this place is that they have quite a few options on the menu for Vegan and Vegetarians. The service was great and everyone who works there was so polite and friendly. I will definitely be going back there!
I love this place. I am shopping about 10 years.
Great food and amazing fresh produce from the middle east. Highly recommend!!!
Small ethnic neighborhood store with both traditional and specialty items one might not normally find in a chain grocer.
Awesome food and a really neat grocery store.
Nothing can beat it when its fresh. Great lentil soup and great gyro meat.
Big portions and great food every time!
