Cant go wrong with authentic Cuban food, much way better than other Cuban restaurant in Chicago. This place lacks decorations and needs a more up to date look. But I actually like it like that. When you walk in you wouldnt expect such great food from this place. Their main focus at this place is the quality and quantity of the delicious food that they serve you. Been going to this place for over 20 years now,and not once have they disappointed me. They are very consistent with their food, flavor full and filling.
I was there to buy some groceries and have been there many times, just hadnt been there for a while. Usually the people there are pretty friendly, however the cashier (young lady) had an attitude. There was an older woman that was sweeping the floor that was friendlier than the cashier.
I love La Unica, Ive never been disappointed with the for there. Traditional dishes from from Mexico, Cuba, Central and South America. Do not miss the jalapeno sauce on just about everything.
Yummy cuban food! The only place in Chicago with authentic recipes. It reminds me of my grandmaβs cooking.
This place has a restaurant inside, which I visited and have to say that I was impressed by the array of foods in the menu and the size of the portion, definitely a whole in the wall you have to know and appreciate, give it a try and you wont be disappointed!
Combination Latin Restaurant/Shop. Had the cubano and maduro ; was delicious and nicely prepared. Their menu is big, so definitely going to have to come back here more often. Havent checked out their shop yet.
Really good. Will be ordering more frequently for carryout. Cuban Empanada was the standout of my order.
Ordered steak tacos with cheese, sour cream and avocado. I was informed they didnt have avocado, even though, they are located inside a grocery store. I open my container of food and I realize they drenched my tacos in sour cream which I did not appreciate. For future reference, put sour cream on they side. Wish I could post the picture I took of these tacos.
Ive been coming here since the eighties,or nineties, the food is better some days than others. The guy with the big mustache is the best cook.
Great latΓnamerican supermarket and restaurant. They have an amazing selection of Mexican, Colombian, Peruvian and central American products. Some are a bit pricey but it is not that bad. The food is good if you are looking for a quick bite. There is parking available and they have a decent selection of liquors.
The food is delish with HUGE portions. Love the grocery store for a wide range of Latin American items!!
You can find Colombian food and s good variety of groceries
Some stuff is expensive but, what I love is you can find stuff that no one else has. Definitely would recommend this place.
This place has been a family favorite for years! Highly recommend the pollo empanizado!
You must try the almojabanas (Columbian cheese bread) it is very delicious. This store offers a wide variety of soft drinks that are typically not available anywhere else. I recommend expanding your experience with unfamiliar yet savory drinks by trying a few.The meat section has always been a personal favorite. Very high quality meats that are very fresh and reasonably priced.Im not too aquatinted with the restaurant section of this location but I hear very good things. I would not object to experiencing it in the distant future.
The portions are really big! The food taste normal, I think they cook with almost no salt, which is good for some people. The chicken we had was very plain and tasted like nothing. My ropa vieja was good, I liked it. We also had croquetas which Im sure they are the goya brand frozen ones lol, but I still liked them. The black beans tasted great. After eating we went to the store that is in the same place and I was so happy to see some items that are great, now I know for next time where to go and buy them. The cashier was friendly and also the other workers.
Really good Colombian food too go.. Ive found some sweets and food..!! I drive from Milwaukee just to find it .. delicious chicharrΓ³n con Arepa !!
I shop at la Unica periodically but today I was disappointed. I ordered a Jibarito online. I went pick up the order, and when I got home it was the incorrect order. Then a young lady at the restaurant calls to explain someone had given the incorrect order and that if I wanted the jibarito, I would have to come back and return the incorrect order! How crazy is that! That is really bad customer service, and I was disappointed not being able to get the meal I ordered. Too bad they wouldnt offer a coupon or something... hard to return a meal when youre no longer even close to the restaurant anymore!
Really amazing selection of Cuban, Columbian and Mexican dishes. The portions are large at a reasonable price. Its also byob, so bring some beer and wine with you. You place your order at the front, so it might be worth it to order ahead if you want to get your food a bit faster. The place is actually a grocery store with an attached restaurant. Its a gem of a find!
Gotten take out and delivery from here plenty of times over the years. Prices are great. The food is all really good too. I typically get the ropa vieja or bacalao. Their empanadas are so good. The green hot sauce they have is one of my favorites Ive ever had! Its connected to a small grocery store with lots of Hispanic products if you are ever in need of that.
A must buy - Sello Rojo Coffe.Ill be back again just for the coffe.
An Hispanic grocery store with a restaurant attached. The food menu is outstanding! Inexpensive, good portions & delicious.Walk up counter to place order.
I love their guava pastries. Best in the city.
Excellent location for authentic Colombian ingredients and they have a toco joint connected to the store with delicious options
Great place with excellent people and lots variety of great Cuban food. We do recommend this place to everyone.
A lot of variety and good prices.
Why their Colombian empanadas are $2. 75 its too much when you can get them for $1.60 somewhere else.
I use 2 love this place but today have been the worst experience I literally waited for over 1 hrs and 15 min had to walk out due to my food not ready. Services is so bad
Nice place to buy all the groceries you usually miss from your home country and the food is delicious! This place serves the best Colombian rice in Chicago
Oh man. . Oh man. Lomo Saltado doesnt get any better.I dont know what to say. Oh man.
La Unica is one of the few stores that has products from Central and South America, really unique
Nice store but my cuban sandwich was not
Always good now the place is totally renovated.
I really liked the homemade, good quality and flavorful food here, in the restaurant space at the back of this specialty food market (South American and Mexican foodstuffs). Reasonably priced and ample portions. I had chicken fajitas because Im eating a protein and veggie diet and they kindly substituted a salad for the rice. It came with 3 or 4 sliced out fried ripe plantain, which I cheated and ate! They have one of my favorites, tamales, in the style of three different countries, Cuban, Mexican, and Honduran. My friends ordered the later two, and I was especially drawn to the Honduran style, filled with chicken, rice, and garbanzo beans, with a couple of stuffed green olives in there too, I think.
Back in the day, this place was bomb and so delicious. I used to eat here weekly with my family and friends. But up to last year, the food has changed; the flavor has decreased, you can tell sometimes they warm up the food cuz it feels reheated. the coffee is the best thing still and the cook Gorje is very nice and makes you feel like youre vip in the spot.
Quality hispanic grocery selection, on site butcher. The take away food there? Kind of lackluster. Sure theres not a ton of places near Rogers Park serving Jibaritos *and* Cubano sandwiches in the same place. But if both of them are mediocre at best why not narrow your focus to do one thing REALLY well?
Great food. Great hospitality
Great place to eat. It is located within a store so you can also shop for your groceries there. I just go to eat however, when my nephew married an American doctor, we were able to go there and buy and present her with some pots etc that we use in Nigeria. Check this place out as you will be pleasantly surprised.
Customer service need work food good
Low quality meat parts, throw away most of the dish
Great restaurant insideThey have Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, Mexican, Peruvian dishesA M A Z I N G
This place is a hidden gem and I cant wait to go back! The food was mind blowing and the prices were cheap... The portions were huge! The place was clean and everybody was friendly. Parking was easy and we had a short wait for our amazing food. You owe it to yourself to go... Just for those plantains!
Good place and very nice people.
Great place to buy stuff from Columbia. got me some aguardiente and almojabanas.
Good Cuban food!
I can honestly say that this is good quality service and their food is amazing definitely would have come here again
Ordered garbanzo soup to go and clearly mentioned vegetarian no meat and she confirmed it was vegetarian but got soup with pork / bacon. Wasted money and threw away soup. Suggest check your order before leaving
Mind blowing food with great portion sizes and great portions. My meal was so big and so tasty! You really must try this place. The service was so good too. The staff was very friendly. I could eat here daily! Affordable too!
Alway a good place to grab a bite.
It was great to eat theres
Super expensive $4 for taco if the taco had gold in it Ill go back and get it empanadas slightly salty the texture was awesome but also expensive $20 for three tacos and two empanadas seriously
The food is delicious. Great food. Just make sure they get your order right. If you order by phone or online the order will not be correct. Just order in person and double check. Then go home and eat your delicious Beef, chicken or pork. Always seasoned good and taste delicious. The food is 5 stars. Messing up the orders so frequent is why I gave them a 4.
There are so many choices here that theres something for everyone. A small eatery buried in a grocery store, you have to check it out. Ive been coming here for years, never disappointed!
Food, taste good, not too excited about some of the sauces, I used the red sauce, I was in a hurry, we are so spoiled by fast food places, so you need time ( about 15 min worth it) to wait from a tasteful food, may be because it was 12:20 pm. I loved my tacos, I personally prefer my sauces made partially by hand, a bit chunky. 5 stars next time.
The soup was delicious
The flavor of sandwich cubano is not the same, such a shame everything was delicious thereI think is new owners
Great jibarito
So yummy!
A great discovery and wonderful experience. So many unique and delicious foods and beverages. Very helpful and friendly service. If you enjoy travel and exploring South American culture, you will really enjoy shopping at this relaxing neighborhood supermarket. Convenient free parking and economical prices. And stay for a delicious Colombian meal or snack in the adjoining restaurant. Truly a hidden Chicago gem.
The best Cuban food!!
This is an awesome little place. Tons of food for your buck. Super friendly staff, a MASSIVE menu, and its attached to a grocery store. Parking is weird though. Youve gotta park, go in for a parking pass, put that in your car, and then go back inside. Get a guanabana shake.
Best latin food in Chicago!
Great food and kind staff.
I enjoyed their jibarito. Really extensive menu. Hoping to try out Lomo Saltado next time.
Great Service & Amazing Food of All Kinds. Really love coming here with Family. The Cooks Really know how to get down in the Kitchen & Servers are Excellent!
Very good food home cooked style
Nice little hidden Cuban restaurant in a small grocery store. They also serve Mexican food. My steak tacos were big and tasty! The maduros were a little too greasy for me though. Shopping in the little market after my meal was an added bonus. This restaurant and Market is not wheelchair accessible.
Delicious Oxtails and Rice
Great specialties for all Hispanics, not just Mexicans. Decent prices. The restaurant is to die for. Great food at a very good price. Wish I lived closer to go more often.
This hidden gem has some of the best food in Chicagoland. I bring all my friends from out of town here, and they are always happily satisfied.
Love the fried rice with chicken... the wait is a bit much for a simple empanada and then to get attitude from the cashier...
All the important mexican groceries
My favorite place to shop for Latin American food in the Roger Parks area.
The service was terrible, they served me a different dish than what I ordered and have ordered before. When I tried to send it back and settle for another dish, the rude lady at the counter told me that I would have to pay for both dishes because βI was wrong.β The lady doesnβt even speak English and she is SO incredibly rude!! Iβve been coming here for over 10 years and I loved this place. I think itβs under new management, nevertheless Iβm never coming back. The food is so inconsistent. The way this restaurant is going theyβll be out of business very soon. I canβt believe what has happened to this restaurant, what a shame.
Good food but the cooks aint the same. Food wasnt what I ordered and flavors was not right. Steak was bland and drinks warm. Miss the old Cuban Cooks.
Best oxtail in town! Everything we tried from the menu has been delicious. Wish they have more veggie options though.
Food was decent but our server was a little distracted. Overall ok.
Good as always especially since my favorite cook was there
Great food! I had oxtail with rice, beans and a tamale. Excellent portions, friendly service, definitely will be back β€οΈ
Went here to get something to eat. If you have never been here, you might like this kind of set up. The restaurant is in the back of the grocery store. You pass all the food aisles and you can see the kitchen. They basically have Cuban and Mexican cruise. I usually get the unica special that comes with rice, black beans, a piece of skirt steak, plantains and a side of baked chicken. My wife gets the turkey leg entree. The only drawbacks are that the place is not much to look at and small. The chairs are totally uncomfortable. They take at least 15 - 25 minutes to bring your food. It is a little pricey for what it is. The meal above will run you about $30.00 not including drinks and tip. They do have free parking. The food is good, but if you get anything to go, make sure they secure it properly in the bag. Things like the beans or sauces that come with your meal, will leak if they tilt in your car. Remember, this is not a fancy place and so dont wear something you might be afraid to ruin. Blue jeans and a shirt/blouse are fine.
Cuban specialties, cooked by Jorge, El Cocinero Mayor, are the gem of the restaurant, located inside this supermarket. The ropa vieja, rabo encendido, and bacalao criollo are signature dishes!
Awesome place! Service was great and food was even better! We will definitely be back.
Great South America food. Very simple and well season food. You will find regular dishes serve everyday in those countries.
Excellent food and service! Almost feels like a home away from home when I want to try Latino cuisine.
Great food
The Empanadas was good and the Cuban sandwich was good but smaller than I remembered.
A one stop shop you can enjoy a meal while getting your groceries.( Hispanic food) liquor also available.
A must go, you csn try from Mexican to Peruvian food. A lot of options but dont forgrt to drink the coffee with milk or cafe con leche.
Terrible you go to eat and pay with credit card and they add 5 dollars without telling you,if you do groceries and pay with credit card they charge you 5 dollars, this restaurant has very good food but the way that they operate charging you extra 5 dollars is not fair to their customer to me is the last time we visit this place and I will tell all my friends and family not to go here,we had been going to this pace when Antonio was the owner but this new owner is not fair and take your money without telling you
This is one of my favorite places in Chicago. They have a grocery store with authentic food from South America and a restaurant specializing in Cuban, Colombian and Mexican food. Home cooked quality food at very affordable prices.
Walked through the mart, but mainly just was at the restaurant attached.Friendly, sit-down style service for fast food prices. The food was delicious, and huge quantities for the price!
