Before I ventured over there I googled the item I was looking for and it said it was in stock at the store. Great! So I go all the way over there looking for the item with no help from the associates, who were just standing around not doing anything. So finally I went to the front desk and inquired about the item and was told it wasnt in stock. Of course they offered to order it online but I declined. I just wasted my time going to a store that was supposed to have an item in stock but didnt. No wonder stores are going out of business everything now has to be ordered online!
Walked in with a buddy was always curious about this place. He was allowed to shop in peace I however was followed around the store. Thanks to the staff for helping me keep my money in my pocket saving it for REI
Place is trash. Owned by Wal-Mart (google it). Bought a knife online and they sent me the wrong knife (a knife $100 of lesser value no less). Exchanged at the store and said they would get it for me. 2 days later they said stock was out. No problem give me a refund. They gave me a refund except for $6 and some change saying it was corporate. Had to go to Attorney General of Chicago and Chase Bank to get money back.

Staff was fast and friendly, although before I traveled to the store, I called about a particular boot and they said they had the boot i was looking for in my size and color. However, the model I wanted was slightly different from what the had in the store. Not totally their fault and I dont hold it against them.
I Had to spend hours trying to straighten out the charges to my credit card.My Story:Bought a coat on sale. The sizing chart indicate a large but the coat ran small and had to be returned.When the exchange shipped I got an email that reflected full price for the coat plus shipping. A call was made.It was agreed that I would be refunded the cost difference of the sale price and the shipping. I requested and received an email conformation that was suppose to acknowledge these credits but the credits, as discussed, were not shown.The email receipt showed no quantity ordered and no quantity shipped at a cost of $449.95It showed my credit card was charged twice for a total of nearly $900.00 along with $5.62 tax and zero credits for a total of $95.61? Are you as confused as I was???A call was made. The customer service rep tried explaining to me that she doesn’t have the information of what was sent me but informed me it was how their computer system works and her information was different. I requested she email me her information. She replied she could not do that and we began a spirited discussion that went nowhere. She could not understand that I could only go by what is in written in front of me and if she could not provide in writing any charges or credits she was wasting both of our’s time.Now I do not know the odds of calling back an hour later and getting the same customer service rep but I did. Plan “B” was put into play which was to use chat and take screen shots to document and ensure accuracy of any charges &/or credits that they were willing to provide me. I went to u2028“Chat” armed with my documentation and ready for whatever they threw at me but this was not going to be as easy as I had hoped.After a detailed description of the situation I requested that I be provided the “EXACT AMOUNT” my credit card would be charged. The discussion stalled to a crawl as she replied with things like “it looks like you were refunded the difference on 12/8”. I told her this not what I asked. And I had to remind her that unless I am provided the “EXACT AMOUNT” I will be charged I am not accepting delivery and will dispute the charges with the credit card company.She would finally provide me the original sale price of the coat “Plus taxes” I asked what “taxes” am I being charged? She replied $23.00 and I informed her that $23 is more than I was charged before and after more discussion about this I informed her that I am looking at the receipt. It is in front of me and I will not accept anything higher than what I already paid. She would agree to charge only the original taxes and mentioned that she was also crediting the exchange shipping cost.Was I suppose to feel grateful that this second shipping fee that was never mentioned before was now being waived? It was the first I heard of it. Tell me you will credit me one shipping cost then turn around and charge me another?While Moosejaw is similar to dozens of other company’s that provide the same or similar gear, it is my opinion that Customer Service is apparently held back by company policy and whatever the computer does which from my experience includes charges and fees that unless are noticed and disputed could end up in the company’s yacht fund and at the expense of the customer. It should not take hours to get a clear cut answer in writing as to what one is being charged. When an item is not made to the standards noted in the sizing chart(s) provided, the customer should not have to pay for that mistake.I have yet to receive the exchanged coat or the credit card bill but when I do it is comforting to know that the screen shots of pricing quoted me which should provide at least some documentation if I need to once again dispute charges.Hope you do not run into this same issue with Moosejaw and good luck if you do.Mr. Scott B.North of Chicago Illinois

I am a new customer with Moosejaw. I wish I knew about them before. I had ordered a Marmot jacket online. Unfortunately I had to return the jacket. I contacted the store to place another jacket on hold for an exchange. My experience at the store was phenomenal. I was helped by Brian and Taylor. They made so many recommendations and they knew their products well. They were both determined in helping me find the right style and fit. I truly felt like a VIP. Their customer service they provided was above and beyond. They are examples of what customer service is all about. I hope they can get a raise or some kind of incentive. Had a great experience with Benny yesterday. I am brand new to camping / was very nervous about purchasing materials I dont 100% understand but Benny was so nice and helpful and even provided me with tips on areas I should consider checking out that were near to the spot I was originally planning to backpack in. He also helped me to pre-order some things that were not currently in store and told me I could come back to try on different shoe sizes once they were in. If you are ever there ask for him he was so great!!! Will honestly never shop at REI again after a horrible experience there and such a great one at MooseJaw.
Staff is friendly and easy going. Always down for a laugh. Kept my wife and I thoroughly entertained, with some complimentary snacks and customer appreciation giveaways, while we made a return. Great environment makes for a great place to shop.

Terrible experience. I purchased an item a couple weeks ago form the Moosejaw site and now the price is lower on the same Moosejaw site. The store here where I live said I would need to contact customer service and they can credit the price difference back. So I did; and they refused; stating it was only 2 days outside this 14 day window. The issue is; this is NOT a price match with a competitor. This is a simple price adjustment only from Moosejaw as your price has dropped on the same item I purchased on your website. This would make absolutely no sense to not issue the adjustment as I could just simply return the item from the order and repurchase which is not very efficient nor is it cost saving for Moosejaw. Because of this experience, I may be returning my item and not purchasing from this establishment anymore. Every other store I shop at will price adjust regardless if the window (as long as its not 30+ days out), and it is their OWN store that had the price drop. Very dissatisfied with Moosejaw and this shopping experience.EDIT: 11/25 - Worked with Nick and he was able to resolve the issue. Thank you for reaching out and your assistance

Found a perfect pair of Prana lightweight hiking pants (women’s), and an Icebreaker wool pullover sweater (men’s) that suited me perfectly on a hiking trip to Mt Rainier and Olympic National Park. Was very happy to have both. Each were reasonably priced for the brand and quality. Thanks, Moosejaw!

Lemme tell you; these guys are AWESOME! Ive never experienced such phenomenal customer service. Initially I went in thinking Id browse their climbing shoes. Immediately a store rep helped me try on their selection to find the right fit. Unfortunately none of them worked, but he offered to special order some into the store so I had a larger selection to try. Within a couple days I had 3 more pairs to try & found the perfect ones! Since then, its just been 1 good experience after another. I actually just got off the phone again over a very long, stressful situation involving a new Go Pro I purchased which was only functional for 2 days. Basically Ive been dealing with GoPro on it for ~2 months. Its been so long at this point I was worried they would no longer honor the return (especially with the loss of packaging), but they were extremely flexible & helpful; honoring my full return. I truly cant recommend a company more. They do things right & place customer service as #1!
My wife and I shop here (and online) all the time for all our family winter gear. Some stores just give lip service on customer service, but Moosejaw (and this store particularly) has the most friendly staff and professional customer service. Just now, I found an old Moosejaw box in my garage basically unopened. I (embarassingly) came here to see what they could do for me and they happily took it back for store credit. It gives be extreme confidence in knowing that Moosejaw stands behind everything they sell and always thinks of their customers first. Bravo! I’ll continue to be a loyal customer and so should you!

A really cool store that carries all the best outdoor brands. Has a wide variety of items from clothing to gear to shoes. Always has events like free coffee and cookies or free beer day. Whats not to love!

I purchased with Moosejaw for the first time, and was so disappointed. My experience was online and with customer service. The product I received was not like the image on the website. I was a told the other product in my order was not available the day before it was supposed to be delivered. I contacted customer service and they were extremely rude and condescending. Not worth the hassle... I have had better experiences with REI.

Ordered wrong size at 10 PM. Immediately realized it was the wrong size and emailed to cancel order 5 minutes later. Next morning, I got a notice that it was too late to cancel.1- it hadn’t shipped ( in fact it’s been 5 days and it hasn’t arrived yet2- I cancelled immediately so why not pull it for me ?Now I Ge to go through the hassle of returning it.

Geez my first time at Moosejaw and most likely last. Not only rude people work there but not very knowledgeable at all I mean I asked a basic question and the response I got was “well I never used it but it looks like a good product” - mind you that was without even looking at it. Never felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome so I went to Patagonia instead and took my business there.

Horrible customer service. I ordered a package with overnight delivery and a week later i learned it never shipped and was never informed by moosejaw. Only because my shipping address was different than my billing address...then was told that I had to deal with it, offered no apology, and that I had to wait another day for the order to be verified before it shipped....no notification was ever sent to me that they decided not to ship my package and was treated like dirt on the phone when I called wondering what happened.
UPDATE 08/2020: had a look at the other reviews. Not sure why people are posting issues with website orders for a physical store location. This place is a five star store; excellent customer service.UPDATE, 11/2017: my absolute favorite store in Chicago now. I stop by at least once a month to pick up an odd item here and there. Always helpful service and great deals. The Black Friday 2017 promo was excellent (Nalgenes and Gift Cards). I hope they keep that one for 2018!Bought a couple Yeti products here and will definitely return. The staff are helpful and they have a surprisingly wide selection of Arcteryx.

Amazing! I ordered the wrong size boots, and they were so helpful in exchanging my online order. When I called them before going to the store, the way they answered the phone made me laugh. These guys rock! Customer service is amazing! I came here before the holidays to get a pair of gloves as a gift and they were the only ones in a 50 mile radius to carry them! Came in - picked them up and they even wrapped them for me. Even gave me a spare box to wrap another gift I was giving! Very helpful and the pricing is fair for the area and product lines. They need to open a location in the north burbs!

I went to the Chicago store over the weekend to look at backpacking packs. I had one in mind but wanted to get sized and compare with other models. After look around for 10 minutes in the area (its not a big store) I went to the front desk to ask for help sizing a pack (no one approached me earlier despite the store having more employees gabbing than customers. One guy came over, asked what I was looking for and firmly stated oh, I have that one. He then proceeded to pull one down the the rack, handed it to me and then went mute. No comments on features, how to adjust that model (remember, he owned that model), or helped with sizing (the sizing measure was right next to him on the floor). After a few minutes of trying to adjust it, I asked about one with a larger belt. He just looked around and couldnt find one. He said hed check with his manager and wandered off. Five minutes later I walked over to the counter and spoke with the manager as the guy was just standing there. He mentioned to the manager that I was looking for a larger belt and then walked away. The manager tried to look up the info on the Moosejaw retail website, couldnt find anything and suggested calling the manufacturer on Monday. Heck, I knew more about their products than they did. I continued to look around the store but again was never approached. Youd think someone expressing interest in a $300 backpack would elicit some attention for up sell on more items at least.Do yourself a favor, if you want to look for outdoor equipment, go to REI. I did and they were a LOT more helpful (without being intrusive). Asking for sizing on a pack resulted in getting measured, choices shown, a pack prepped (with sandbags so youd know how it would actually sit on your hips) and suggestions on how to properly adjust the myriad of straps (my how equipment has improved since my old boy scout days). Pricing is the same and they put far more customers service into it.
Pets are welcome at this outdoorsy mecca and my dog loves to stop in when we are nearby. They have great gear and sales often. Moosejaw carries North Face, Patagonia, Mountain Hardware and more. They have a good selection of Mens, Womens and Kids gear for all season. They also run sales pretty often

OK -I;ve tried Moosejaw and in-store and rate them AAA+++Ive returned stuff online ... no worries at all. SeamlessIn-store, the staff are chilled, friendly, knowledgable and personal. Heck we even put up the tent I was buying in -store and discussed the pros and cons of other gear over a cup of Joe. Cant get better service than that.

Store has everything an outdoor connoisseur could need but they lack the sales reps needed in order to cater to mountaineers and extreme alpinists.Im climbing Denali in a couple months and I went in to try on equipment and ask questions about the best equipment and to get reccomendations on everything from thermarests, backpacks, ascenders, nano puff jackets and much more. Had to wander around the store for thirty minutes until an employee could find the time to help me locate the gear I needed. Even once someone was helping me not one of the three different employees were able to answer detailed questions about individual items. Felt like I would have saved everyone some time to have just researched everything online instead of wasting my time asking unanswerable questions to novice outdoor clothing sales people.
I ordered a North Face jacket on the Moosejaw’s website. I received a USED jacket. Used! As in rubbed-in dirty sleeves, greasy stains, “worn-by-a-slob-for-at-least-two-months used.” Any half-decent retail business would be deeply ashamed and would offer an overnight replacement, a rock-bottom discount, or anything really, to compensate the customer for the lost time and the unpleasantness of receiving a filthy piece of clothing after doing business with them. Moosejaw’s solution—they “will accept a return.” The manager wouldn’t even take over the call, which tells me that they did not think that something out of the ordinary happened when they sold a second-hand item in place of a $300 jacket. I am returning everything I bought from them tomorrow and taking my business elsewhere.

PAID FOR BRAND NEW BUT RECEIVED WORN WEAR USED JACKET1. They sent me an Worn Wear jacket. I found a hole on the side of the jacket and I can smell dirty deodorant from the jacket. Rubbed-In dirty sleeves and Worn By A Slob for At Least TWO MONTHS2. Asked them how are we going to fix this issue and all they said to me.. Return it.3. Didnt explain returning process and had to called back to them for returning shipping charge and fee.I am very upset for the lost my time and the unpleasantness of receiving a filthy dirty piece of clothing.Just DO NOT buy anything from them

Nice outdoor gear shop. They carry the same stuff as REI, minus the REI brand, and not as much variety. The staff are more helpful and available than at REI.
I was definitely disappointed about the service, first of all because i choose them over other websites to order my North Face jacket, which wasnt really cheap, like any other NF products. First they blocked the order because i used an International Card, i have to go through several steps to show them that i own the card. This took over 4-5 days to complete. I payed extra shipping costs just so that i could get the jacket faster. Due to all this delay obviously 1 week later im still not getting the jacket and the shipping has not been done yet, though ive completed all the security steps. Since they assume all their international card holders are frauds and make them go through stupid security checks, i will definitely NOT recommend this website to any of my friends (since most of them are foreigners).
So Disappointed!!! I ordered merchandise on December 2nd with confidence that it would be delivered by Christmas. On December the 19th after calling numerous times, I was informed that the item would not be delivered as it was not in stock, but they could offer a substitute. I accepted the substitute item, but ended up having to return it on the 26th of December at the Chicago location. I was told the money would be returned within 72 hours. Again I called several times and on December the 30th I was informed there was no record of the item being returned. After being transfered 4 times I was again informed the credit would take another week. I hope to actually receive this credit. But, only time will tell. This is the worst customer service I have ever received and no one at this Moosejaw would at least take responsibility for it!
Love this place, so does my pup. Peter the store manager and crew are extra cool. Knowledgeable with climbing and all about the outdoors. Plus just good souls. After being asked to leave REI because I walked into Lincoln Park store with my pup even though we were fitting her for RUFF gear, Ill only come here. I understand an unruly pup is bad news bears for many involved but my pup is super well behaved, service dog caliber, I wouldnt bring in a hairy Denis the Menace. Oh well, no mas REI. Works out better in the end with this crew and store culture. VIVA LA MOOSEJAW! Haha.
