I dont usually go to a ton of cycle shops as I find many to be intimidating, but this spot is top notch. Went along with my other half to pick up their bike. Friendly and super-knowledgeable cycle experts providing quality service and store full of quality products. Ask for Danny.

This is my first real bicycle and Im in love. I got fortunate enough that the FX 2 was in stock here because a local shop said it would be until next year until it became available in the charcoal color. The staff were very helpful in the whole process and even educated me before I left the store. 10/10 would recommend.

Covid has taken inventory of bike shops down to a minimum and this place is no different. While visiting Chicago from out of state I thought I would stop by the largest bike shop. It appears they have space for quite a few bikes to be displayed. However, as stated the shortage of bikes has hit this business as well. I expected to see a wider variety of clothing and accessories. I imagine most people just buy them online. However, If you are looking for a Trek Bike or service on a bike this would probably be a place for you.

Excellent service and always willing staff to repair your bike. This place is fully stocked with workers to help you but the bikes are selling like donuts n coffee ☕😀. They mostly sell Trek bikes as they are now taken over 😀. My bike was serviced quickly and I didnt have to spend a lot at all.Parking is about $2.50 for 30 minutes but the weekend it can be hard to find a place to park. You can drop your bike off in the front unloading space and find a park then go in to the store. Its excellent hours to get your bike serviced, open even on Sundays.

This bicycle shop is one of the greatest ones in the city and probably is the best one in this old town area. I have shopped for some gears from here and I had my bike tuned or fixed here too. The staff here they are really attentive and friendly, everyone looks busy but will help you anytime. Also their professional work is awesome, I got no trouble of my bike after the tuning. When you leave your bike for fix here, you can go around and enjoy old town restaurants nearby.

This is not the Village Cycle Center you knew.I live about two blocks away from Village Cycle Center and have bought half a dozen bikes from this place over the years. They have serviced my bikes for nearly 10 years and I have always enjoyed coming here. This is no longer the case. This is one of the few businesses that has done extremely well during Covid and they have lost all resemblance of any form of customer services in this last year. I had to stand in line for 20 minutes before being allowed in an almost empty store and was only allowed to look at one bike accompanied by the grumpiest sales person I have ever seen in my life.I had done my research and I walked into the store with the purpose to buy a specific $3000 bike but the sales person was completely uninterested and not willing to even answer one question about the bike. And why would they want to when clearly there will be another looser standing in line they can sell the bike to if I cant be bothered to just hand over the cash without them actually having to talk to the customer. If you would make the mistake to actually buy a bike from this place forget about any service. There was was a line of people who tried to get bikes fixed they recently bought there and they were treated as rudely as we were. Please take your money somewhere else. This place no longer deserves your support.

The repair section is five stars. They do good work and give accurate estimates. All of the stuff Ive bought from them has been good quality. They lose two stars for this problem with two guys behind the counter. I went in twice to ask if they carried something, and was flatly told that those things didnt exist. Looking for a replacement BOA kit (totally a thing, and one of the guys who had been in the shop intercepted me and got me one, located directly behind counter guy) and a presta valve extender. And it wasnt a I dont know what that is or if we carry it, but straight up Thats not a thing. With a side of kind of making fun of me about it, both times. The thing is, I dont think I would have gotten this reaction if I was a guy. Even if its generally higher-than-though nonsense, its really off-putting.

Its not a bad place if you are searching for a bike and if you need some variety, but the employees are why I give 2/5One of them was amazing when I pick up my bike, but the one who sold it to me was wasting my time a 100%. He barely talk, help or show me options and still I was willing to buy a bike so, I kinda didnt pay too much attention to this, but the problem was in the moment before payingThis employee just let me there, waiting, saying somebody else will handle me and doing something else with other employee in front of me few meters away. He didnt told anybody to finish my buying or doing it himself, I just stay there for 20+ minutes doing nothing and we have to go to tell him nobody is talking or handling the paymentIf I didnt say something, he will continue doing something else since he just start talking with another costumer without finishing my thingsThe other employee was fast, ask me if I need anything and give me some advice. But only because of him Ill give this place a 2/5, if he didnt continue the sale, for sure I would just leave the place

I’m a recurring customer of Village Cycle, having lived down the street for years. I dropped my bicycle off for a new chain, and was informed I needed a new rear wheel. The service tech said it would be 4 days max, and they’d call me with updates and shipment tracking info.Due to the pandemic, shipping and production has major delays. Having not been informed of this at the start, I was told to keep calling each week to request an update.Speaking with a manager named Tim numerous times, he had a very condescending tone when I’d call for updates regarding information his tech had originally provided me. Having waited a total of two months by now, he suggested I try finding the wheel I needed on amazon or other co-op locations in Chicago to bring to Village Cycle.I finally called around at other shops in the city, and Johnny Sprockets in Lakeview was able to order my wheel and have it installed within 24 hours.I understand the shipping/production delays, but the condescending tone and mansplaining I had to endure is not worth wanting to bring my bicycle in for future repairs here.

I felt like the salesperson underestimated my cycling knowledge and was trying to sell me a bunch of things I didn’t need. Also, the communication about when my bike will actually arrive has been very poor. It was supposed to be here June 14th and it’s the 25th and I still don’t have my bike and only know that it was delayed because I went to the shop last week. Is this how they treat their customers and how they do business? The sales guide told us there’s no charge for installation if we buy things in the store when we went in the first time. The second time we went in, another sales guide didn’t explain anything and just asked us twice to confirm if we were going to need the installation service. Then the mechanic didn’t say anything about the fee neither before the installation. Finally, the cashier told us there’s gonna be an ‘extra’ installation fee…We were in shock! And the mechanic came to us, made a very condescending statement, “I already said there’s service fee.” We didn’t wanna argue too much with them and we still paid for that “charge us without telling us before selling” service fee but if this is the way they do business and treat their customers, we have no comments.

I went to the store in search of a leisure bike, a cruiser, an urban commuter. I bike only during summer weekends. My budget was about $500. The GM pushed too hard to sell me a road bike that started at about $700. (not gonna happen for a weekend bike) Anyhow, this was the least of the problems. The facts that made me rate a 2-star are as follows:1) GM tells me: what we have in store is just the tip of the iceberg, you should check the inventory online.2) I bought the bike of my dreams online. Free store pickup. However, in the order confirmation email, there are no instructions as to when the bike well be ready for pickup.3) I call. After waiting for 10 minutes on hold, the guy on the other end says: We are sending emails when the bikes are ready. After fully assembled.4) I got the email a few hours later: Your bike is ready. Status of order: waiting for customer pick up.5) I went to the store, 1-hour later. Were sorry we dont have your bike, and we cant do anything about it. Either choose another or get a full refund.6) After trying a couple of models, I decided to get a refund.7) 5 hours later my phone rings: I am calling from Village Cycle to let you know we dont have your bike, do you want another bike?Dont get me wrong. These people are very nice but extremely incompetent. For those reasons, I would spend my hard earn money at unprecedented times elsewhere. My bottom line is that not because you shop online means youll get what youre looking for. You might be exposed for no reason.

Once my go-to shop but after the poor experience Im not going back. I called in advance to make sure they could do my service. I took a half a day to drop off my bike to find out they wouldnt be able to do it. I told them I wouldnt mind waiting a couple weeks due to pandemic and high demand. I was very disappointed in their practice of quick money grab and quick turn over vs a great customer experience outside of selling bikes. I went to another shop across the river from the west loop. They got a bike boxed for me and my handlebars swapped. And did two pro level tuneups on two of my other road bikes within a week of posting this. There is no reason for the poor service. Village Cycle used to be a great shop. Ive spent 10+ thousand dollars on bikes and repairs over the years here. But the past 3 years have been a true downward trend for the store. Tune ups have been worse and worse, to the point where Ive left with my bike and broken down on the way home. Last tune up took almost 3 weeks, then when I picked up the bike, the tires were flat and they pointed to the pump outside and said I could use the free pump to air the tires myself (after spending $150+ on routine maintenance).Today I had a significant issue with a bike and couldnt ride it, so called the shop to make sure they were open and taking bikes. I walked the bike over to the shop (which is a few miles away for me), waited in line for 20 minutes, then someone came out and said they were not taking bikes anymore. I explained that I called ahead and had to walk the bike over, but the gentleman was very rude and told me, well thats the world we live in, call again later and see if were taking bikes again and walked back inside. There are so many other bike shops in Chicago, I cannot recommend this shop - there are plenty of other nearby places to buy trek bikes at. If I could leave no stars, I would.TLDR: customer service is horrible, poor bike service

Its awesome to be able to keep business local after this COVID debacle. I had a wonderful experience working with Ian (helped me pick the appropriate upgrades and gave me excellent suggestions) & Mike (helped me make sure everything was installed properly and checked me out/billed me). My gripe is with Tim C- this gentleman came up to Mike while Mike was servicing me and aggressively asked him what he was doing, and why wasnt he helping a pair of new customers. I immediately jumped in and said because he is servicing me Tim C tried to make a statement regarding COVID and safety to which I replied I am also in here and need to pay (in order to leave and take my bike). Tim aggressively followed me up to the register w/Mike mildly taunting me until he went back about his original business. To make a long story short- everything was awesome until Tim C got involved and made me both feel bad for Mike and as a result uncomfortable. Still have to give the bike a thorough ride for full judgments on repair, but wanted to highlight the poor business/professional etiquette displayed by Mr. Tim C.

Buying a bike from Village Cycle Center was and continues to be a pleasure. I walked in the door having already test ridden every bike on my short list and knowing exactly what I wanted, but they still discussed the model and size I had chosen to help me confirm I was making the best choice. They did not rush the sale in the slightest. It being both a repair shop and sales floor, they have plenty of knowledgeable employees to answer your questions in detail. And I had lots of questions that they patiently answered with a friendly attitude. If riding everything you are considering is your shopping style, its important to have made your rounds and done your test rides before buying at Village Cycle Center. They have a device they mount the bike to so you can pedal as they adjust the fit, but they do not allow test drives on the road due to being located on a busy curve. I was considering a large variety of models from multiple brands, so its not like I could have done all my test rides at one location anyway.Although Ive only owned the bike for a week or two, theyve already demonstrated that they are a supportive shop to have behind my purchase. When I brought my bike in having slipped on ice and smashed a reflector (on my brand-new bike!), they immediately replaced the part wouldnt hear it when I asked about cost. I know a reflector is not an expensive piece and the labor behind mounting it is not huge, but their attitude inspires confidence.Buying a bike from them comes with two free tune ups (standard, not an upsell). I figure my experience with those tune ups and any other time I bring my bike in will be positive, but I plan to update my review to confirm. If I forget, its due to lack of complaint. If you’re considering buying a Trek or cycling accessories, certainly check them out. In addition to being personable and knowledgeable, their prices are very competitive. They had the best price when I bought the bike. Since, I haven’t seen it listed anywhere else for as low (trust me, I’ve been keeping an eye out).

Then the tires arrived quickly (4th star), but the levers were missing. Mistakes happen, I thought, so I called them to let them know the situation. Adam, the sales associate answered the phone, was very professional and friendly and immediately said we will send some out first thing and have them to you by next week. Awesome. He clearly understands the sales adage that its not what happens, its what you do about it. Then I got a call about 10 minutes later from the manager saying that the levers actually shipped from a different warehouse and would arrive soon. (That honestly may have been communicated via email to me, but my week has been so crazy I havent paid attention to those emails. So probably my bad!) I appreciate how everything was handled, though, which is why I am reviewing them and giving them 5 stars. In the age of Amazon and automation it was great to get humans who cared about the business and who were set on making the situation right no questions asked. I called Village to see if they could fix under the 1 year service warranty. The said no since it was after February. They act as though they have great service and you pay a premium because of the 1 year check up. It has little value in Chicago because most people do not ride a bike in the winter. Theres even an area set aside specifically to help people get the right fit for their bike, taking into account your height, riding posture and many other technical factors which I clearly did not know existed before walking into this place. The reason why I came in was because I needed to get my brakes aligned from a second hand bike that my friend gave to me. The service center staff was fairly prompt and was able to diagnose that it was not only my brakes that needed work, apparently my spokes were not tensioned correctly and was causing my wheels to wobble. My chain was also not greased. So they promptly set off to work and after one hour, on the hour, my bike was ready. I checked my bike with one of the service staff and found that my wheels were still wobbling, which resulted in it rubbing against my brake pad regularly. To which he replied, it was pretty bad when it came in. We did our best but your bike is one of those departmental store bikes and they dont have good quality control standards on these bikes to start with. What a way to leave on a sour note. sigh.

Walked in for a helmet. I noted that I didnt want a giro or bell and the salesperson told me I guess we cant sell you a helmet.. He then just proceeded to walk away. A couple of perfectly good bontrager helmets sitting there.

The guys here really made the process simple and informative. When I first walked in, I really wasnt intending to make a purchase on the spot. I thought Id look around and get a feel for what I might want. After talking to with Jim, I felt really comfortable and trusting of his recommendations. Everyone was very helpful and didnt make me feel pressured. I love my new bike. This is the first time Ive used clip on pedals. A little tricky the first ride, but very happy with the new bike and the service. Will definitely be back for future supplies.

I had a really positive experience here finding a new road bike. Paul and Tim were knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly, and spent a great deal of time helping me find the bike that was right for me. They have a huge selection of bikes and a great staff; I cant recommend them highly enough!

I have never had a bad experience with Village Cycle Center and their customer service is by far the best I have ever had. I went to go get a chain replaced and not only was it fairly inexpensive but my technician, Tom is think was his name, took the time to give me some much helpful and greatly appreciated tips on how to take care of my bike. Not only that, he took it upon himself to fix a couple of minor things without an additional charge and not to mention how fast and precise their technicians are!! I will always be bringing my bike to them and will gladly refer anyone and everyone to go to Village Cycle Center. Thanks Village Cycle, you are the best!!!

We got here 30 min before close. Tyler was polite and professional to my daughter. She picked the bike off the floor. They stayed open late to finish her bike. I promised her a bike and these wonderful people made it happen. Thank you. I will recommend this place to anyone. Thank you for the experience

... Three years in a row I bought gel seat covers and a couple of U- locks. As far as mechanical works on the bikes I own had own 5 others bike shops to do that, as of today, 6 locations are closed due to high lease or rent .. Recently in three months had brakes adjust on both of my bikes and a few days ago had the shop two new tries & tubes spend nearly $300.00 . Cant wait to see the new look 😯 .. The best things I like about this place & like to give it a 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ the the front automatically doors and the ramp going down the service area, no fighting to keep the door open as you trying to come in with your cycle .. Job Well Done Village Cycle Ceter 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲

My peddle fell off in the middle of my ride so I stopped in to use a wrench and they wanted to charge me $10..so I could screw my own peddle on. Since I didnt have a card or money they left me high and dry.

The neighborhood bike shop Village has a great selection and very friendly knowledgeable staff. They do offer a 7 days 100% no questions asked cash refund. Its not the most inexpensive place to buy a bike as they do have an Wells St/Old Town rent to pay but theyve been in business and havent been as successful as they have been for no reason.

My bike as well as everyone in my family is from Village Cycle Center. The staff is incredibly helpful and honest. They will never try to sell you something you dont need or unreasonably pricey, which I really appreciate (no one likes finding out they spent too much money equipping a bike they just bought).

I had a really good experience there today. The sales associate was very professional and not pushy at all. I was looking for a good mountain bike at a reasonable budget. I ended up purchasing a 2016 Trek Marlin 6 at a really decent price. They threw in 3(!) FREE maintenance services at over $180 worth. Not to mention the bike was ready to go in about 1 hour on 4th of July weekend. Really impressed with these guys. Highly recommended!
