Tailwind is great. I am just a bike commuter, and the winter does a number on my already beaten-up bike, but the guys at Tailwind do not judge harshly and repairs are quick and reasonably priced. Highly recommend this shop. (I dont do sport cycling, but, based on the people who come in, it looks like they are equally good at meeting the needs of those who are more serious about bicycling). UPDATE: STILL 5 stars! Today, I went in to get a few things checked out for possible work and A.D. (who seems to have endless energy) quickly diagnosed the issues, fixed the ones that made sense to fix right away, and let me know about future work that I might consider. Again, great service, and more than fair price!

The best bike shop on the Northside. I have a Sam Kwang Freight bike that needed some upgrades. Another bike shop said the work was impossible. Tailwind made it happen. The only bike shop allowed to touch my bikes from now on.

Brought my bike here to get it assembled - this shop offered the best price within 5 miles of my home and had my bike ready for pick up within 72 hours. The team members were extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my novice questions without blinking. They offered me products that would help to promote the longevity of my bike but were not pushy at all. Will definitely be using this shop for all my bike needs! Thanks team!!

I needed a master link to repair my garage door chain. After spending hours looking in hardware and automotive stores, I decided to try bike shops. The store associate upon consulting the owner found the part. The good natured folks took the time to help me with a $2 item.

Although I am not personally a customer of Tailwind, because he was upset, I feel compelled to post comments regarding my husbands experience with them. My husband brought in his bike for a tune-up which was not done properly - post tune-up, upon riding the bike it became off-center. When my husband returned to have this corrected he was met with rudeness and impatience. My husband, a Brazilian, is a long time cyclist and a super nice guy, he was also a return customer. I am a lifelong citizen of Albany Park. I feel bad that Tailwind as a small business, especially in these times, the small gustruggling. I just wish this could have been a more positive experience for my husband.

First time customer at this store. I came in to have three bikes fixed but they didn’t have the size of tire I needed for the third one so they could only fix two bikes. I was waiting there for more than twenty minutes, the first five I spent answering some questions about what I wanted fixed and whether I wanted the bikes to be “ride-able” or “good.” After more than twenty minutes just standing there as a worker is checking one of my bikes, another worker asks me if I wanted my second bike fixed because I didn’t give a “go ahead” (I was standing there with my second bike and I already said I wanted both bikes fixed) Poor communication all around. The workers didn’t seem to be on the same page. They didn’t tell me anything about the time it’d take to fix it, how long it would be, whether or not it needed to stay in the shop, nothing. After an excruciating amount of time, I ask another worker an estimate of the price it would take to fix both bikes. He says they need to actually check it on a computer. The worker then proceeds to give attitude when we were just clarifying if they would fix it right there and then so we’d just take it home because they’ve been seemingly working on it since we walked in. He then says “well it’s closing time, so” when at that point it was ten minutes past closing time and little to no communication prior of whether we could leave or what they’d plan to do. We ask for the price of repair and the worker promises to call us back the next morning with an estimate. The next morning comes and there is no call. I had to call him and they said they haven’t checked. Another day goes by with no call from the shop. I call them again to ask for the estimate price and they say they haven’t gotten time to look at the computer. Days go by and I called to see if my bikes were ready, and a guy who I haven’t talked to picked up and asked who I was. Then asked if somebody called me because that’s how you’d know if your bikes were ready. He then looks at the computer and finally gives me an estimate. At that point it’s been about a week. They didn’t start repairing the bikes because according to them I never gave them a “go ahead”??? But I left my bikes in the store and said I wanted both of them fixed so why would they come to that conclusion? At that point I just asked if I could pick up my un-repaired bikes and I went to another bike shop.

Fast service. Theyll do exactly what you ask, just be sure you clarify it. Had to ask the girl replacing my inner tube to do the work for me. Theyll give you advice and recommendations on how to keep your ride running smoothly. Kind of wish they also wiped the bike over with a rag after the work but the job was decent all the same.I would come back in the future.

Great experience at this shop. I havent ridden in probably a decade, and these guys were able to get my 20 year old Schwinn up to snuff and roadworthy so I can get rolling again. They were able to explain some basics so even I understand what I need to do to maintain it, and they even had a helmet that fit my gigantic head. Fun fact: Steven likes Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney, so I had a good time talking music while he worked on my bike. All around great shop and nice dudes. Give them your money.

I don’t know how i feel of this place went in to get some basic questions answered not a bike person but rebuilding a bike for my son that use to be mine (may sound stupid instead of buy a bike but its the principle like rebuilding an old car) when i was a kid and granted it was busy the guy did not really seem to care of the questions or tell me to give him a minute while he finished what he was doing p.s he did ask me if i needed help i did not just went bursting to him for help so i asked why i came in, which made it seem like he did not want my business i was prepared to buy what i had to buy but was fine about it nicely thanked him for what he did somewhat answered but will look into other bike shops that will seem willingly to help me out in the help i neededWas very disappointed because this place had great reviews and was positive this was the place to do business with

By far best shop in town. Ive been to them all sprockets, turin, boulevard, on the route, smithy, etc. No snobs or intimidation here, will talk pro down to fixies and everything between. Had them build out my wheels, best build ever I love them so much. They have reasonable pricing and the quality outweighs all the moneys. Ben and Steve thank you for taking over the Iron Cycles spot and bringing your awesome shop to Albany Park.

An honest bike shop that services all types of bikes. I appreciate the worker owned and operated ethic. My son takes his single speed, its not a fixie, there and my wife and I bring our cyclocross, cargo and commuter bikes. Talk to Stephen if your bike doesnt fit correctly and ask Ben how to make your ride awesome with custom wheels.
