Ezra is very knowledgeable and generous with information and help. He also understands the importance of color coordination and humored me longer than strictly necessary in finding pedals that matched my bike. But its v cute now.

I visited to get my bike tuned up in what was surely an insanely busy COVID period, but Ezra was still very helpful, understanding, and patient with his customers. Beside that, I appreciated the quality of his work. The first gear shift after picking up my bike was an instant confirmation that he took the time to assess my bike and address what could be improved. (For context, I had an old bike that had a really janky gear-shifting experience. Needless to say, Ezra has improved that significantly.)In any case, Ezra does good work and treats customers well. Id definitely recommend a visit.

Ezra is a sweetheart! One evening I was riding home from a sour experience at another bike shop when I passed Green Machine and stopped by for the first time. It was 6:45pm and the facility closed at 7pm. Ezra came out to greet me and I informed him that I was looking to buy a helmet. I asked if it was too late and if I should come back another time, and he said he had 2 flats to fix but if I stuck around that hed be happy to assist me.When Ezra came back outside, he was very patient and informative as I have never bought a cycling helmet as an adult and am unfamiliar with the new technologies and features. It was 7:20pm when I left the store with my new helmet and a complimentary Cliff bar! I was very thankful for his time and willingness to help me.That night as I was adjusting the helmet I found some spots and marks that I didnt like. I called the store and left a voicemail stating that I would come back the next day to have him check out said marks. He called me back the next day saying that he would be more than happy to look at the helmet and exchange it if need be.I returned the next day, Ezra assessed the helmet, and he gladly exchanged it for a different one!Thank you SO much for this positive experience and helping me with such an important purchase. I definitely plan on returning for future biking needs :)

I had just moved to the area when the stem on my road bike broke so I took it to Green Machine and they installed a new one at a fair price and with a quick turnaround and even did a lookover on my bike to see if anything else was off. Took my bike out to Colorado a week later and couldnt have been happier with the new stem. Will definitely go back and would definitely recommend this shop to anyone in Chicago!

Great neighborhood bike shop! I have had my bike serviced there numerous times and purchased accessories. They are very knowledgeable and helpful bike mechanics. I would always trust their advice and they have bailed me out of a few jams. Youll see reviews here that they can be a little prickly to deal with, but so what. If we dont support vital businesses like this there will be none left.

Worked with Ezra on a semi-custom touring build and it’s basically the perfect bike. They’re pretty busy but they took care of business. Professional. Ezra knows what he’s doing and I appreciated the straightforward candor. I’m glad I chose his shop to do this for me. Highly recommended.

Took them a bike from the trash to bring up to speed for recreational riding. The guys could have taken me for a ride monetarily but instead were honest that it wasn’t worth it and refunded my down payment. Very professional and honest people over there at Green Machine.

I came in today and was greeted promptly with a friendly face and got assistance from Charlie in selecting a pannier. He offered his own personal experience to help me make the best decision. He also advice me on some general bike touring tips and encouragement. I felt so secure in my purchase. They have some awesome bike brands in stock and great gear. Definitely check this place out. Thanks so much guys!

Charlie and Ezra are terrific and so helpful. A couple years back my wife and I did a two week bike trip in Cape Cod and they helped us with a purchase of a Kona Sutra for me and the back and forth of sending the bikes to Boston. All worked out totally flawlessly. I am looking to purchase another bike and of course will solely deal with Green Machine!

I am a rather new customer -- but quickly became a loyal one to Green Machine Cycles. Not only do Ezra and Chris love what they do - their knowledge of all things bikes (especially cargo bikes - their specialty), is vast. They truly take the time to learn what your needs are and that they are met. You will enjoy the experience of shopping for your bike needs and potentially learn something new from these two. I highly recommend this very friendly and welcoming shop. Check it out; you will NOT regret it !!

I have been in Ezras shop a few times since it opened. Stellar mechanic! And great customer service. My son who has some cognitive challenges, needed some immediate assistance but I was not able to get to the shop with him. I called in the situation over the phone and explained that my son would be coming in with his bike. Ezra assured me he would take care of it. He did. And he promptly called me back afterwards. My son felt welcomed and his bike was fixed efficiently and promptly. You can tell the shop is new; product is still coming in, bikes still being built. But already Ezra has a solid selection on display. Sensible, practical, well-made products. One last thing... finally Chicago has a bike shop that operates with the underpinnings of sustainability and green sensibilities.

Long story short: if youre a novice, if you get a new-to-you bike and want to get it all set up for you, if you have questions, if you want to test ride the amazing haul-a-day by Bike Friday, then this is the shop. Super friendly, willing to take time to help you. So lucky to have this on the Northside of Chicago!!

Rude, unhelpful staff and exorbitant prices. $25 to fix a flat? Ridiculous. Last time I was in there was about a year ago and I had a similar experience and vowed never to go back but sadly, my bike was stubborn and decided to go flat while I was nearby so I reluctantly went back, thinking how bad can it be? Very. Very bad. Dont waste your time or money.

My bike was shifting poorly and causing me to feel unsafe. I brought my bike in and spoke with Ezra. He said, they would take a look at it as well as take a test ride and give me a call. Ezra called me the next day and explained what was wrong and gave me options. I needed a special part that would need to be ordered. Ezra explained to me that it wasnt on the normal order days for the store, however he could order it if I wanted to pay for the shipping(which he also gave me an estimated cost). I commute to work most days and wanted my bike up and running ASAP so I agreed to the repairs and shipping. The work was done on time and at the price Ezra said it would be. My bike shifts and rides FANTASTIC, thanks to Ezra and the staff at Green Cycles. I recommend Green Cycles for future repairs.

Every time I have gone into the shop I feel like I am some sort of inconvenience to the owner. While the store gets the job done in terms of selection and is very convenient for me, I’d rather take my bike elsewhere. In fact, when I mentioned needing a little work done on my bike to my husband recently, he said “Well, don’t take it to that place on the corner!”

A new resident of Chicago, I discovered this store while searching for a Kona Bike dealer on the north side. Ezra had just opened his business. As the winter began to subside, I purchased a 2013 Rove for commuting in and our of the city, Having visited other bike shops in the area, I do not have to look any longer. Ezra a great fellow, helpful, fair and down to earth. He does good work at a fair price. Highly recommended!

Came here looking for a padded passenger seat for a Bike Friday Haul-A-Day; turned out that theyd recently signed up as a Haul-A-Day dealer, and had one up on the stand being built! Lots of interesting cargo bikes from a variety of vendors; owner knew his stuff and was happy to chat.If I knew someone in the market for a new cargo bike, Id send them here for the variety -- lots of options to figure out what works best for you. Montrose is a little out of my way, but Ill be back.

I have never met such condescending and unhelpful salesmen in my life. I just recently started biking, I’m already nervous about it, what I don’t need is someone to talk down to me and make me feel unwelcome in their shop. When Ezra, the owner, did answer a question he made sure to preface it with the fact that the information I was receiving was free of charge. Rarely has an establishment genuinely made me feel as uncomfortable and unwelcome as this one.

I have been to multiple bike shops since doing year-round bike commuting and when I first used Green Machine Cycles, I brought my bike in for a tune-up and they said they only do a la carte pricing for tune-ups, leaving me no way to estimate price. Ok. Not great for people on a budget.I liked their focus on commuting and cargo bikes, so I really wanted to use the store!!! I did!But it wasnt till I went in there with another person (after several fixed flats and bearing lubes) who also saw what I was seeing. The staff gave off a vaguely rude, aloof, and frankly elitist vibe. I know biking is a niche activity, but what I hoped from the store was a spirit of inclusion to biking. What I got instead was a dismissive, and disheartening experience. One that was so aggravating it made me swear them off for good.Their stock is good, I admit, but Im personally going to walk the extra 10 minutes down the road to go back to Roscoe Village Bikes. RVB staff has always been there for me and have never made me feel even one iota out of place in the biking community.I want to support local bike shops in our community but I just can NOT support GREEN MACHINE anymore.

Just bought a new bike at Green Machine. In the 9 months since I started commuter biking in the city, Ive dealt with 3 bike shops for various things - purchase, repair/maintenance, accessories and, after being hit by a car and bike totaled, another purchase. I will NEVER go anywhere but Green Machine again! Ezra is knowledgeable, down to earth and a pleasure to deal with. With his help, I found a great bike at a good price. Even though the bike was on sale (last years model), Ezra has gone out of his way to find whatever accessories can be salvaged from my old bike for re-use on this one. When my son came in with me to talk about used bike options, Ezra talked with him about the various options in the city and was totally supportive even though Green Machine does not sell used bikes. No hard sell on why he should buy a new bike when his budget wont permit that. Just good information and an offer to look over what he finds. Our business stays here!

An excellent little bike shop on the Northside near Ashland and Montrose. I recently had the shop build me a bike and Charlie and Ezra were more than helpful in all aspects of the process.I first came into the shop with just a vague idea of what I wanted. Charlie and Ezra helped me decide what I wanted in terms of major components (drive system, handlebar type, brake type, wheels, etc.) and then worked to fill in all the missing bits to form a complete build. I had a complete parts list and expected price before final approval and frame purchase. I never felt like they were condescending or pushing me in a direction I didnt want to go.It was a very positive experience overall and Green Machine is now my go to local shop.
