Im so sad to see theyre closed. I hope it really is just temporary and they reopen again soon. My children earned their first bikes at this shop. Excellent program for the kids where they learn how to repair and build a bike. After a certain number of hours learning/working they can choose a bike to keep.I just looked them up because I am looking to purchase a bike and really wanted it to be from this place.Please dont stay closed for long. Great place.

Heads up... the staffs speed, professionalism, knowledge of bikes and overall kindness will make you fall in love with Blackstone Bicycle Works. You have been warned.During my first visit I complained about pains from the bicycle seat after not having ridden a bike in years. They not only gave me really solid advice but offered me some tools that completely changed my life. I now ride everyday and feel great after a long distance pedal through Chicago. So glad the young men are not only being taught a craft but interpersonal skills that connect them to lifelong customers.

Go here for cheap bike repairs or to buy a used bike and ensure that your money is spent in the community for a good cause.

I broke down at Promontory Point coming from Bucktown. Gentlemen was closed but hooked me up with a skewer for the back tire and I was able to hit the trail and get home. Faith in humans and humanity is restored! 10 outta 5 stars. Looking to pay it forward today. ✌🏻& ❤️

Ive been going here for about a year now for literally ALL of my bicycle needs. What can I say? These guys are awesome! Best Value for the price && friendly staff!! They always tryin to help out however they can && I wouldnt go anywhere else--- unless i have a flat && Black Stone is closed hah! But you definitely cannot beat these prices anywhere else in the city!!

This bike shop has saved me over about five years of living in the area and over the lifetimes of two different bikes. I bought my first cruiser bike for grad school from Blackstone. I now have upgraded to a slightly nicer bike. They have fixed flats, tuned bikes and repaired my gear shifter and they work really quickly too! Sometimes the kids are learning how to make these repairs, and Ive received free services as they are tutored or make the repair in front of me. This place can get busy, so come early during their hours or closer to the evening.

Flat tire on lakefront. Googled “bike shop near me “. Up came Blackstone. Hiked over there (.9 miles) and had it fixed within 15 minutes. Great staff and a funky location.

Caring confident and able community. Was moved by that place and the adjoining coffee shop was literally the best!

Great customer service fast service. Children repairing bikes I think its a wonderful thing. My husband and I took our bikes to get the tire repaired not expensive in my opinion and asked if they would raise my handlebars they did with no charge. Im taking my grandsons bike 🚴 on Monday. Great location.

Blackstone Bikes is wonderful. I feel like Im helping the cause and also promoting local businesses. I needed a full tune up and thankfully, I had someone to help me with all my issues. Theres a constant flow of young kids volunteering at BB and the staff is so kind. The service I got was quick and prompt. I had a great experience here!

I went there as of 07/21/2018 to get a few things fitted on my bike . Them young kings got me right and ready in no time . And affordable. I recommend them to anybody that needs a bike repair & put together .

I WANT to like this place, because its good for the hood and the kids, but it sucks as a bike shop. Ive been there half a dozen times to see a veritable cornicopia of bikes. When asked about one between 49 and 58cm I was turned away. This has happened EVERY time Ive been.This place seems to be helpful ONLY when they arent overwhelmed by the energetic child-staff. Good luck getting something done in a timely fashion, or even AT ALL.

Sweet set up for the kids! Unfortunately its unusably slow. The staff is irresponsible and the repairs dont get finished. Dont bring your bike here if you ever want it back.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, great deals, and a good community-based cause. If you want a wide selection make sure to get there early on Saturday, as the bikes sell quickly!

This bike shop did more than what I ask to be done on my bike. :).

Today, my son, 8 years old, and I visited the organization hoping to get his front brake on his bike repaired. I learned of the organization through a Google search.The repair service to his bike was excellent. The adult service technician and his understudy student were professional, quick, and knowledgeable.However, several youth workers that were seated outside the facility were very disrespectful and lacked courtesy to customers. While waiting outside in the drive/entry way for my sons bike to be repaired, young women and men were perpetually speaking abusive words towards one another i.e. profanity and racial terms. Their behavior persisted even when gently corrected by their peer and when the abuser apologizing to my son and myself.Although I was disappointed in the youths behavior, I also realize we are all evolving. I commend the community and organization for providing an outlet for the youth to acquire great technical, business and social skills by working/volunteering at a bicycle repair shop.

As far as finding the bike i want to get when i go up there usally they dont have it but they will some how some way come with a way to get me what i want. its a no profit so i dont expect them to sell new bikes that have parts thats hard to find they still get vthem for me in a days worth time. the kids are great and the service is even better. i would have to say Blackstone is the best bike shop in the chicago area.
