Super nice and safe! I know I’m not getting screwed when I come here. They were recommending and teaching me things about my bike in case I wanted to fix it myself (in order to save money and become more aware of how my bike). Their prices are fair and affordable. Went on their busy day at a busy time and maybe waited ten minutes but totally worth the small wait.

My bike tire was punctured from some broken glass in lake front trail. I wanted in here for emergency service and they were very quick and got me back on my bike in no time! Excellent service and very affordable.

Honestly I should have left this positive review a long time ago. I went and spoke with a person at Uptown over a year ago (before I had started riding) and they politely and kindly answered all of my questions about riding bikes as a bigger person. At the time I was very scared that there were no options for me without having to purchase a really expensive bike.The staff discussed bicycles with me and was not concerned with making a sale. They were even kind enough to recommend I ride a few Divvy bikes to see what I liked and did not like about them and when I was ready to buy we could use my experience with the divvy bikes as a baseline for what I wanted in a bike. Thanks to them I have been biking for over a year now, and will always hit up their shop when I need to. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Even with a COVID back log, they got me in within a week, quickly assessed the problem, provided me an estimate within the hour, and finished the job by the end of the day. Great job. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. Highly recommend!

Uptown Bikes was the only bike shop in the city that had my tire in stock. They fixed it the same day I scheduled my appointment, and did a fantastic job replacing it with one of their puncture proof tires. Very professional with their social distancing. I felt comfortable leaving my bike with them. They are likely my go to bike shop now. Thanks Uptown Bikes.

After being hit nearly head on by a police van at Broadway and Wilson, I carried my bike with crumpled back tire here because it was the closest shop and I needed it fixed immediately. I would not recommend this shop to other working cyclists who need swift repairs to keep doing their job, because all it needed was a new back tire (which takes twenty minutes tops) and they said they could not get it back to me until the following evening. Then, as I was leaving, I overheard a person who looked very poor and possibly homeless told they would have to pay $10 for the staff to put air in their tires and lube their chain, which is completely egregious and ridiculous. Not a shop for working class and poor cyclists.

Wow! I had the absolute best experience at Uptown Bikes. When I texted to make an appointment, the responses were quick, informative and concise. The texting-to-make-an-appointment method made the whole exchange feel modern/accessible and a lot more like an interaction between two people than a transaction. They were happy to discuss my bike with me, they talked me through the repairs needed and suggested other fixes; they asked questions and got what they needed from me without a lot of back and forth. From the time my bike went in to the shop, to the time I picked it up again, only about 3.5 hours had passed. They are conscious of COVID and make sure their staff/customers stay safe by using a curbside pickup system. I think I mostly talked with Leah, but I didnt catch a name so its possible there were others who helped me! I highly recommend their awesome, women-owned/managed, reasonably-priced business for your bike needs! When I need a tune-up, I will definitely be going back!

Sold me an inner tube and wouldn’t let me use their pump while another customer was inside the store. Told me to walk a few blocks to the gas station. Sure no problem- since my hands are covered in grease. Maybe if I was buying I bike. Come on!! Spray some windex on it and move on. Thanks kind of.

I have been impressed every time I have dealt with Uptown Bikes. Their staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and they do great work.They schedule their tune-ups in advance, which I really like. I knew when my bike would be in the shop, so I could schedule around that (I use my bike for commuting) and it also means that my bike doesnt need to be sitting there unless someone was planning on working on it.I brought my bike in after work, and later that evening I received a call back with what they thought needed to be replaced at the time, and what I should think about replacing in the future. I had a quick conversation over what I work I would like to have done, and they let me know when it would be ready. I have a bike which has quite a few miles on it, so I knew I would likely need quite a few parts when I brought it in for a full tune-up. They could have easily tacked a couple of extra cables/springs/bearings onto the final list of work, and I wouldnt have really known, but they never tried to sell me work I didnt already know about needing done.Overall, their staff is very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. They do great work, and do it in a timely fashion. I would have no hesitation recommending anyone I know to have Uptown work on their bikes.

I bought a $800 bike for my son this past Christmas (2019) and I called them today to see if I can come by to put air in my tires on my lunch break and they said they no longer provide the free air pump that they would usually have outside the front of their store. This is some BS. I dont want to hear anything about COVID being the reason. I should be able to get some air. I gave you my business! Im done with Uptown Bikes. Oh and the clerk even rushed me off the phone when I was asking about the air, saying someone was one the other line. On the Route bikes and/or Wheel and Sprokets here I come. Anyone but Uptown Bikes.

Super convenient and affordable prices for repairs

Took my bike here during Covid. They had quite a backlog of bikes ahead of me and couldnt get me in for a few weeks, but they were prompt when the service started.Communication was great from the get-go (they have a texting service which I found helpful).Ill come back when theyre fully open for more biking needs.

I have gone to Uptown Bikes twice in the last year. The Uptown Bikes staff is always super friendly, and they always do their best to get the work you need done as fast as possible. Both times, they were able to have my bike done that day. As someone who commutes by bike, this is really important to me. They also do a great job of explaining what needs to be done and what your options are. When their work was done, I felt like I had a brand new bike. I would recommend Uptown Bikes to a friend.

Uptown Bikes offers wonderful service. They are pretty busy but it is that way for a reason. They take time to talk to you and are really knowledgeable.Charlie remembered the order of the washers on my brake pads something like 5 months after he had to play with them to get the right fit. I have an unusual bike but still the attention to detail was awesome.

Was on a bike ride and had a chain break. went to the shop and they wouldnt let me borrow a chain tool or buy one of their chains without an appointment. Not a very neighbourly shop. Wouldnt recommend

Uptown bikes will rob you of your money. They make up problems about your bike. Uptown bikes staff told me I needed a new wheel which would cost $50 AFTER they did a “full” bike tune up the week before. I went to TWO other bike shops in uptown, both said all I needed was a tub change. Uptown bikes is cool because it’s queer and female friendly but they overcharge and will do anything to scam an extra buck off of you. Go to another local bike shop and pay fair rates.

Highly professional service, well-organized, well-stocked and reasonable prices; I wouldnt trust my bike to anyone else. It rides like new after the tuneup they did. They were diligent about explaining the charges, what needed to be replaced, how long it would take, etc. and they followed through.

We went to Uptown Bikes for some accessories. They installed a kickstand, new seat, and rack for us within an hour. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining what kind of product my bike frame was suited to and why. They texted us when our bikes we ready, so we didnt have to stay in the shop while we waited. The prices were reasonable (and I noticed they added a reflector to my back wheel!) I would recommend this bike shop to both casual riders like me and to commuters. Well be back when our bikes are ready for a tune-up

Very friendly and helpful. My bike was fixed very quickly. I popped my inner tire and the employee made sure to explain why my inner tire had likely popped.The prices for repairs are very reasonable!

This place used to be called Urban Bikes. Now its called Uptown Bikes. This place has been around for over 20 years but not in the same location. The old location was a few blocks away around the corner. These people know their stuff and they wont over charge you for service.

Honest. If my review could be summed up in one word, that would be it. These guys really know their stuff, being cyclists themselves, and they are out to really understand and meet your needs instead of scoring a quick sale. They are genuinely interested in helping you find the right bike to meet your needs. Their recommendations are superb and if you dont know anything, theyll take the time to explain it to you. You dont feel slighted or dumb after talking to them because they dont make you feel that way.True, the selection of bikes isnt enough greatest, the prices are a little high but hey, you get what you pay for. Its a quality product that they are selling.So check this place out of you want to find out more or if youre not quite sure what youre looking for, but if youre planning to buy, you might have to prepare to spend a pretty penny.

Excellent staff... I took my bike here for repair once and they took care of me. Gave me options of what should get done, but also what could be done to get by if money was an issue. Didnt feel pressure at all. Friendly and funny peeps here. Not the place for used bikes on the cheap but their selection is good at a fair price.

Had a broken spoke, wheel needed to be trued, needed new cables for my shifter and something with the front fork. It was all done in a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. They talked me through what needed to be done and gave me the price up front. I was presented with options (and the probable outcome if I chose each option). When I wasnt sure if the tires were rolling straight, they took the bike back into the shop and gave it another check, even though they were already in the process of closing. Glad I found a local shop in my neighborhood!

The folks at Uptown Bikes are great-- very honest, knowledgeable, friendly, and patient with people who may not necessarily be hardcore cyclists. There was a bit of a wait a couple times that I went (during their busy hours), but I can assure you that it is most definitely worth the wait. The two main people that helped me out on the floor were Bill and Pete, and both walked me through everything I needed to know-- never pressuring to make the sale. Bill actually suggested that I take a look around to make sure that I got what I really wanted-- three bike shops later, I was back at Uptown Bikes to make my purchase!UB also installed the lock attachments on my bike for free (I bought the locks there) and also made some pain-in-the-butt adjustments (the request that I made for the U-lock carriers was a tricky one) for me for free. Always honest service with the customers needs/wants as the focus. My girlfriend and I have adopted them as our primary bike shop, and I highly recommend these guys for anything bike related!

I was hoping for way better, based on reviews and recommendations, but it was average at best. Had a flat, mostly wanted to know if the tube needed to be changed. I think it was changed without much inspection.

When I’m for a tune up before the triathlon and took the ladies up on there advice for tires and air pressure. All I have to say is OMG they rock in there knowledge and service.Will Knight

Came by on a Friday afternoon after catching a flat, and was stunned to see that they were closed. I can see having shorter hours in the winter, but being closed all day Friday? Thats what I get for trying to shop local.

Even though I came at a busy time. They still made sure to aknowledge me and to let me know that I would be taken care of. Once attended to they explained the prices of the services. They gave me an estimated time to come back. Before I left they were able to see me and tell me the problem of my bike.

This place is very helpful... they fixed alot of issues I was having with my fold-up bike once free of charge... and they were really helpful to one of my out-of-town visitors who brought her road bike in that had not been rode in months... however, my only gripe with them is that when i bought a very expensive u-lock from them, they offered a free installation of the holder on my bike (which is not my gripe, I thought that was really nice of them)...however the girl working the desk and even the guy who installed it looked at my bike unsure of if it was a good idea to put it on there just cuz of how differently shaped my bike is... well, anyways, they went with it and put it on a spot under my seat... long story short... my very first bike ride with it, it fell off because the way it was positioned put pressure on the u-lock and eventually pushed it out of the holding lock and it fell off on a dark bike ride, and i didnt know til i got home.... i was very displeased with this. i would think someone who works with bikes everyday wouldnt install something on a bike that is meant to hold an expensive u-lock if they didnt think it would hold it in place properly... I thought as professionals they would make a better judgement call. so now instead I am out $50+ and have no fancy U-Lock anymore.... if you have a unique bike and want stuff accessorized on it, be careful...

These guys are amazing! If you cant drop your bike off at this location; they have another store located by CTA Argyle, which isnt far, but the only con, is that the CTA Argyle location isnt open daily like this location. Not much of a bike selection, but the bikes that they do have are very affordable. Their repairs are very affordable as well.Ive stopped here a few times in the past to look at bikes, or to put air in my tires, but this time i needed a minor repair on my bike. It took them over an hour, but that is because this location gets alot of customers, which isnt bad timing considering the little manpower they have. After riding my bike, i noticed a huge difference in the feel of my bike, and the decreased grinding sound of my bike.They replaced my old worn out tire with a continental ultra sport tire, and i most definitely can feel a difference. The repairer also mentioned putting oil on my chain, which is probably the reason why the noise is gone. Im very excited to have my bike back; even though Ive only been out of commission for only two days, hehe. These guys totally took care of me, and made my 2003 Giant TCR Composite 1 feel like new again.

My bike crashed into a cab, when it was his fault. I survived with minor injuries, but I had thought my bike was done for. I brought it here straight away and they fixed it as I waited, no questions asked. 20 minutes, $5 later and I was on my way. Also the mechanic was super hunky.
