Very cute little shop. Visit the oldest liquor store in the US to complete the historical experience of the great town of Charleston. A good selection of local liquors. Also the employee was amazing. He was super friendly and very knowledgeable about all products. He also acknowledged every customer that walked in.
Horrible service. Rude employee. Had to show interest in purchasing something for him to show interest in us. Asked about locally made beverages and he recommended Firefly Lowcountry Lemonade- it’s disgusting 🤢 and quite overpriced.
This use to be our favorite place to visit in Charleston! For several years, we planned our trip to Charleston specifically for the tavern as a birthday gift for my husband to stock his bar each year.. we always a great experience with whoever was working and they would tell us about some of the bottles, etc. This year we traveled from VA for our annual trip, and the man working essentially ignored us and starred at his phone as we browsed. I approached him and told him we visit annually, and would love to know if there are any new bottles, etc…he remained playing on his phone and told me he wasn’t sure what I wanted. Very disappointed, and 1st time we ever left empty handed.
This place is amazing! Located in the historic district and a must stop if you are strolling around historic Charleston. Definitely has an old Charleston feel and a Great selection and knowledgeable staff. The elderly gentlemen behind the counter can talk to you about rare bourbon and tequila or recommend a nice wine for your dinner party. I visit pretty frequently and will be back soon. Have frequent tastings as well.
Great selection of local liquors. Friendly staff as well!
Prices are all over the place. Not competitive at all.
This place is so over priced it’s not even funny! I would rather watch this place burn then pay their prices! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to spend your money! Almost triple the price of secondary market! Absolutely a joke.
Hell yeah! History and booze, my two favorite things!
Good selection of pricey liquor, but the place is very small. Kind of a grouchy dude behind the counter, too.
Food was awesome!! And my service (Ashley) was on point. Well be back !!!
Love the idea, but the bourbon prices are a joke. Had a Willett Pot Still for $135 ($48 retail) and Noahs Mill for $100 ($52 retail), as soon as I saw that I walked out and did not waste my time. Feels like they are just hoping to take advantage of tourists who dont know any better. No true bourbon drinker would buy at these prices.
Pretty bad prices on most spirits. They’re obviously up charging on the bourbon fad. But scotch and rum prices were not terrible, not good though. Other than bad prices, they had a good selection of spirits. It’s unique and we were able to find some wine we really liked for a good price.
Cool lil liquor store
The Tavern is one of my favorite liquor stores in the Charleston area. I like the history of the location and fun the vibe and atmosphere of the store. The location is very convenient for this part of town and they have a really good selection of some items that you may not see at other places.
Very small but a decent selection. Friendly staff and the prices didnt seem bad at all.
This is the oldest liquor store in the United States. The owner and staff are very knowledgable, yet welcoming. The selection of local distilleries is robust, along with the Barrel Selection options from well-known distillers. You can also find a number of the unicorns all Bourbon and Scotch Whisky Hunters look for, so you will enjoy seeing these on the shelves.
This is a lovely and quaint spirits and liquor store. It has a great selection of anything alcoholic you could want and more! It has charm, style and a touch of old southern Elegance. Steven is a joy to work with. He really knows his stuff. I highly recommend it:
Historic. Take a peek.
Several generations ago, the man who owned this tavern and buildings also owned my grandma. It was cool getting to see this little piece of history and also see where my relative had to work/live.Great selection, despite the small size of the store, staff is friendly and helpful. If you are looking for cheap booze this isnt for you, but if you are looking for something nice or special, this is a great spot.
Happened upon and was not disappointed. Lovely selections and a witty and friendly worker to help you pick the best option. Left with a Hamiltons, Navy strength. Recommended stop if you want to bypass Total wine, and find a better selection.
Fun and friendly staff. Go to the tastings of you can. Awesome history, and great Shine, Apple Pie flavor was my favorite.
Best 15 minutes of my vacation! Loved the complimentary tasting and the commentary on the history of the building. Todd was the best!!
The selection and high mark up prices represent the area this store is in.Touted as the oldest tavern in the US - they heavily lean on this narrative to inflate prices.NOTEIt would be interesting to see if they could actually verify that claim. The scotch section in particular had many high-priced Niche bottles, but not the staples. If you want to feel nostalgic and are okay with paying for it I would recommend this place. However if youre trying to get your weekly bottle its not going to be friendly to your wallet
I went in once a little hesitant since I had my dog (not even a little purse dog but a puppy husky) with me but the owner turned out to give us the biggest welcome and he even had treats!! He was very helpful in picking exactly what I needed for a birthday and gave me a little history on the oldest liquor store in Charleston he is so proud to own. Charming and very recommended little place!
What a cool place to walk into. The English guy working there was extremely knowledgeable and sold us on some things that we wouldnt have bought otherwise. He also kept us away from some that looked interesting to us but were not good in reality.
Have not shopped here, but I have spent some time here. The owner is a very friendly and informative individual who is a great pleasure to talk to. The selection is quite plentiful and Im sure the service is impeccable.
Great great great. Drank got tight good time
Free whiskey tasting at the oldest liquor store in the country, whats better than that. Took in a few shots, learned some local liquor history, good times. The dude from Palmetto Distillery was hysterical, Theron gave me some good advice and I took home a winner of a local whiskey.
Small, but it packs a punch! Great selection of the things you’ll need. Nice wine room.
Love this historical hotspot. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and good suggestions.
This store awesome, very small with some of the best selections I have seen in even high end stores, must stop in if you are ever in the area, I was told this is the oldest in the country, highly recommend
Love this place. I try to go every other week, because they have a great selection and its a short walk from my house :)
Friendly & knowledgeable staff and a great selection of bourbon and whiskey.
Super friendly staff. Looking forward to there new store.
Cool store! The salesperson (owner?) was very nice and helpful. They had a large selection of local spirits.
Awesome little boutique wine & liquor store offering a variety of unique and small batch spirits. Thanks to the proprietor for turning us on to Cherryshine!
They say they are though oldest liquor store in America. Regardless whether thats true or not, and it may well be, they have an amazing selection of specialty spirits.
They sold us a local $100 bottle of Low Country rum from Highwire Distilling Company that tasted like in was aged in diesel barrels. Truly awful and I unfortunately gave it as a hostess gift. Watch out for their recommendations.
This place has an amazing selections of bourbon and the proprietor was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Gary, the owner, is a very friendly and helpful guy, who has some very interesting stories to tell about the history of selling alcohol in Charleston, as well as having a comprehensive stock of liquor, and wines, port and sherry. The Tavern is the oldest liquor store in the area, dating from around 1700.
Walked in to check the bourbon selection and found a nice selection . However, this place is charging outrageous prices, $299 for a Michters 10, $179 for a 1.75 of Weller Reserve!! Hilarious, talk about price gouging.
Awesome selections of bourbon and you get a chance to visit the oldest liquor store in the United States. This is a must see while in Charleston
Great samples of Palmetto whiskey and moonshine!
Good selection...owner very helpful...

Whiskey tasting, and great selection!
