Very few places were open on a 9:00am Sunday morning so I stumbled in here. They were out of crab meat so I could not explore a new dish, crab omelette. I accepted the young ladys recommendation for shrimp and Im so glad that I did. They somehow cooked the shrimp to retain its own unique flavor that the original idea of crab meat made the desire for exploration obsolete with this thrill of discovery. Tomatoes are sweet, the spinach was tender and the cheese was not too runny. Seriously. My grits were mildly salty, buttery and granular the way grits ought to be. The service was like walking into a family kitchen without the dramatics. The music selection was really fantastic. Also, they were really chill about letting my old dog rest in the corner. She had new shoes to break in and was struggling to walk so she was really exhausted. This was a great experience. The best representation of Charleston dining. Very humble establishment with a good crowd.
If you need something easy to hold you over this will suffice, but this is not a place to seek out. When I entered the store around 11:00, there was one family in front of me and one person who had already ordered but had not yet paid. It took me roughly 10 minutes to place my order (very slow). There was a late teenage boy behind the register (likely owners son?) and he was busy writing checks to the employees. He kept telling people to give him a second and then he would just keep filling out checks (like personal checks by hand). One of the cooks stopped to tell him to add $100 to her check and then when he finished her check she complained that he shorted her $100. Tacky. This is something that seemed strange to be doing in front of customers while holding up the line to order. Eventually when he finished he just left and never came back. He seemed oblivious to the many people waiting and how he could be helping to collect orders and do this when things were slow. The workers were wearing gloves and face masks but they were not covering their noses, so they were merely for show. The eggs that were being cooked on the stove with a disposable plastic fork that seems to be bent from getting melted. The panini press was caked with burnt stuff and they did not have the proper scraper tool to clean it (they were using a terry cloth). The kitchen floor was covered in filth, the sink to wash hands (for the kitchen staff) was located at the front corner of the store and blocked by a customer eating and a case of bottled drinks. It didn’t appear to be used much.My breakfast sandwich (sausage egg and cheese bagel was good) so that helped save this from a lower rating. Super slow!
Had the market street breakfast. Had to get my own food from the counter even though I was eating there. No one had on hair nets, the male cook had a beard but had no face covering or gloves on.Ive had better breakfasts! Wasnt worth it but may tey their lunch menu.
Friendly. Stopped in for a smoothie and waters. Smoothies were full of ice chunks, and the straws too small to allow the chunks. Straws too short for the smoothie cups with lids. Smokey from cleaning the grill or something. Could be better.
Good prices, delicious food and friendly staff. I had the One Honey of a Sandwich & would eat at least three more. My wife had the Turkey, Spinach & Brie. Everything came out fresh and fast. Well definitely eat here again. Thank you!
Food absolutely delicious!! Staff very friendly & helpful.
My smoothie was so watery and obviously contained no fruit at all. It tasted like a crushed up jolly rancher juice. My partners burger was bland and hard. The food did not look at all appealing. It was so expensive for no reason. The place also just looked dirty inside and we could not find a sanitation rating anywhere
Refreshing smoothie! Delicious market salad wrap! Great place for a quick lunch!
When all of Charleston had wait times at 10:30 am, we walked right in. Ordered and ate in 30 minutes. Corned beef hash eggs grits and toast was simple and delicious.
Awesome breakfast place. Gourmet food in a deli/diner atmosphere. I had the Surf n Turf a fresh crab cake, sausage, biscuit, egg with gravey. My husband had the crab omelet. It came with spinach and grits. The portions were generous, the staff friendly. For as many times I have been to Charleston, this is first time I come here. Great food, simple atmosphere across from the Marketplace.
Neighborhood joint where we got breakfast. Dont think it was quite worth the price but still an affordable sit down option next to the slave market and cheaper than a lot of options in king street
Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. Sausage and cheese on a homemade biscuit. Amazing!!!
BEST CUBAN SANDWICH ON THE PLANET!!! Staff is awesome!! When we visit Charleston every year for a week, we go there almost every day!
This place was so MUSTY!! My food left me sick after I left. The cheese was plastic and straight from a trunk of a car...I can’t even believe I ate this sandwich. I had high expectations expectations for this restaurant and it left me at distraught. The employees touched my food with there bare hands and were rude...I DO NOT recommend this place. My friend also found a fly in there peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Anyway never going there again
Outstanding. Stopped by for breakfast, French toast and sausage. Great. My wife had an omlette and grits. She loved them. Very nice people.
Food and service was delicious, we had the Shrimp Omelet and it came with grits and toast, very tasty.
Ordered breakfast omelette & smoothie—all in all it took 30+ min even to get the omelette and had to cancel the order for the smoothie because it still hadn’t been made. Quality/portion size for price was quite poor—spend your hard earned dollars somewhere else.
Market Street Deli & Salads on North Market Street in Charleston is a great place to go for breakfast, lunch and a snack when you need it. The food here is very well prepared and delicious. They are very convenient to just about anywhere on the Peninsula. I have had an enjoyable experience every time I have been here.
We dropped by for lunch and were so happy we did. Egg Salad on fresh bread was delicious. The Italian sub and smoothie was very yummy. We will be back!
Don’t be fooled by the size the location or the simplicity. Y’all this place would get 10 stars from me if it was an option. The food was amazing and the grits were ON POINT
Every time we’re in Charleston we have to stop in for breakfast. Everything is always so good and the staff always accommodating!!
Amazing food and service thank you will definitely be back
This food is great! I ordered the crab omelette. They used a great amount of fresh crab meat and it was very well seasoned. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it is not enough seating space. Other than that, it was amazing!
Clean, comfortable and friendly. Raiders was very friendly and helpful ! Food was Great, We will visit often !
I wouldnt even send my ex here! NO WAY! I can only wonder how many people they have made sick with their discount trunk groceries and how many dhec employees have been paid off to overlook this serious violation of the health code. (A video has been posted of employees moving warm groceries from their trunk to the store) This place is gross and even a remodel and a second location cant hide that. Now their cutting corners and violating health codes for 2 businesses on Market St. and dont think that your eggs and milk arent getting warm riding in the trunk of their car whether its 100° or 50°, its not stable, legal, healthy, or good business practice, some may say UNETHICAL and downright DIRTY. The gamble is yours when you eat at either Market St. Deli location..
You shut your mouth and dont pick anywhere else to go in Charleston you tell your wife or husband youre going here for breakfast because its absolutely God damn Delicious and Im fat so i know! Hand down the best place!
Awesome shrimp and grits
The most unfriendly women i have ever met. Food exactly as advertised
Literally the best omelette I have EVER had. I had reservations about seafood in an omelette, but was pleasantly surprised and she did not disappoint. Grits were perfectly seasoned, no salt needed. Friendly staff, comfortable environment. Clean, fast service. Great coffee. Making a special trip to come back downtown just for breakfast.
Excellent best grits ever
Best little known breakfast spot
It was horrific to say to least and overpriced to a point that I was shocked. This place came recommended to me and my wife by while on our honeymoon. We ordered corn beef hash and French toast. It was over $30. The corn beef was from a can no question. the French toast was cold and chewy from old bread. We didnt get all the food we ordered and they argued with us when we asked. It took over ever to get our food and the staff was offputting at best and rude at worst. It was so bad that we shared a carriage ride with some other customers right after and all complained how awful it was.I cannot explain how insanely bad it all was.
Quick simple and tasty food with straight forward employees. The exact atmosphere I expect when going to a nice small deli. Very clean.
My wife and I travel quite a bit. The sandwiches were great as was the quality of the food and the portions were large. The service was fast and friendly. The only issue I had was the place was packed with customers (which should tell you the food was great). I highly recommend this deli.
Great shrimp omelets, biscuits and grits. Also great crab omelets (though I prefer the shrimp omelet). We stayed at the Church Street Inn. My wife walked over every morning and brought back breakfast.
We had a wonderful breakfast after having lunch the day before... Both were great southern food
The ladies here are amazing. Definitely gives the at home feeling. The breakfast was great. Definitely recommend.
I was downtown with my friends and we stopped at Market Street Deli! The place was clean, the staff was great, and the food was absolutely amazing! My friends and I LOVED our food. I will definitely be going back soon!
We were Charleston recently and came across this deli. It’s a very unassuming little place with good food of all kinds. This will be our go to for lunch whenever we are in Charleston.
This was our first time coming here, and we had a wonderful experience. The staff is definitely friendly, and the food is great. Its a great deli to stop by and get a fresh sandwich!
I was very pleased with the meal and service while dining with some friends during the first week of December. The dining atmosphere was very good. It will be a great place of dining for me in the future. Although living in Columbia SC, dining there makes the trip worthwhile. Thanks
When the chef is outside telling you to try his shrimp and grits, you try the shrimp and grits. It was good! No frills, served in paper bowls, it was definitely tempting to ask for seconds. I would not say theyre the best in town, but a great little place for a quick breakfast. Enjoy!
There was literally one employee in there for breakfast. Food was ok. Slow!
Amazing breakfast and friendly staff. Biscuit sandwiches are huge and cooked to perfection. Definitely worth a visit!
I had the pleasure of having lunch here with my family and I was impressed with the food and the southern hospitality. The food was delicious, the chef was a pleasant woman, it was a quaint little restaurant and very affordable.
Im going to add this statement to all my reviews and since Ive been busy Im way behind in posting.First I provide reviews of our experiences just so others will know how the vist went. I dont give good or critical reviews to get something. If things are really unsatisfactory then Ill notify the management, and even if they offer a freebie Ill decline and have done so in those occasions. I comment on quality of food, service, atmosphere, and if necessary cleanliness. So here we go,...Last November while visiting we stopped at this tiny hole in the wall to get some breakfast, what a surprise. There are only a few tables and a couple of stools at the front windows, so sitting can be a problem. The grits are the best I have ever eaten, better than my grandmothers,.. The bluecrab omelet is wonderful,... coffee is just as good. The staff are nice and friendly and the local clientele make things, interesting. We enjoyed the food so much we walked there for breakfast the next two days we were in Charleston.
Beat sandwich downtown
They took 15 mins to order and took hour to get half of my food then still got it wrong. The food is great and couple lady’s are sweet but the service kinda sucks
I dont usually write reviews unless I absolutely love the food. I have made it my mission to try something new every time and I can honestly say that I have yet to say I didnt absolutely devour whatever it was I was trying that day. The service is fast and really friendly and my go to place to eat lunch and breakfast everyday.
I was really hungry/so I came in from work to enjoy some shrimp in grits. Well the grits needed more salt an I didn’t know bacon onion & peppers would be in my food nothing to complain about. My guy had a breakfast sandwich .
My friend and I were walking downtown today and decided to stop in and have lunch at the market street deli for the first time. We found that it is small but quaint, the food was just as good as a sandwich from anywhere else. We thought the staff were very nice and they were quick to get the orders out. The only thing I would say is that they are a bit stingy with the chips! We got crumbles.. Anyway, we would go back and have lunch there again!Right Liz?
I definitely should have read the reviews online before going. Im not sure how they have ended up with as many stars as they have. They have a worker who solely goes out on the street to solicit people in the door. If the food was good, people would automatically come!!! The chicken and tuna salad had enough salt to fill the Atlantic ocean. The gyros had two piece of meat on it. High prices. Low quality.
Great breakfast sandwiches before the start of our carriage ride.
Food was pretty good. Would eat here again. However, the service was very subpar. The cash register lady was hardly acknowledging my existence and wasn’t very helpful. I asked if they could refill the sweet tea and their response was, “sorry, we don’t have any more.” The staff was just lazy and lacked quality customer service. Needs to at the very least fire the cash register lady...
Wonderful, friendly people and delicious, large portions. Convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced!
Best bang for your buck! Breakfast sandwiches are amazing, try them on a croissant or a biscuit. The crab omelette was to die for. Great value.
The wait was short to order, but the woman behind the counter was no where near as friendly as she should have been. It almost seemed as if we were disturbing her. The root beer floats we order were delicious though.
Was out searching for good breakfast and found it. Great gravy & homemade biscuits...and AWESOME GRITS!!!! Thanks to cook Rodney for the recommendation.
Only place open during the winter storm. Good food and fantastic service. We ate inside, but they also deliver. The delivery man was on top of it!
Staff was friendly, the food modest at best. Ill mark it off my list as done.
All of my family members enjoyed our sandwiches and the friendly atmosphere. Great little sandwich shop for a quick and relatively cheap bite to eat!
The service was fantastic. The honey mustard wrap, the vegetarian option, was pretty awful, especially at the price that I paid. This place is so close to the market, has so much potential, but is, for now, average.
That macaroni salad is absolutely the best macaroni salad I have ever had!! Great customer service and wonderful food!!
Great food for breakfast and lunch. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Great for breakfast and lunch
Tried three times first was great the last two were not I was rushed on phone placing order then the lady just hung up on me in mid sentence, of coarse order was wrong no chic on my grilled chic salad, asked for the dressing I got the FIRST time I ordered from here (olive oil/vinegarette mix) I got plain olive oil same as second time trying to order it.still not seeing this southern hospitality around here, I won’t order food here again sorry
Great little restaurant Gluten free excllent sandwiches
The Southwest Shrimp Wrap is outstanding .. been back for seconds ! 🍤
Good food made right in front of you but it takes a while so not the place if you are in a hurry.
I always appreciate when the chicken on a salad is warm and fresh from the grill!
Food was delicious! $11 for good sized sandwich, bag of chips, pickle spear and a bottled soda. Very worth it!
Try the Vermont bacon club, a delicious sandwich on a fresh roll. Great flavors.
Really good subs sandwiches and smoothies and very fast food making and good nice service
Was verbally and physically accosted by the man outside the store. He claimed I was rude because I did not hear his question then he proceeded to walk over to me and hit me on my head.
Our food was fresh and delici5. Perfect for a quick meal.
Best Gyros! Taste just like the ones in Greece!
Had the shrimp omelette. The guy said hes got the best grits in town. He wasnt lying
I eat here almost everyday. They have great tasty food, great service and their sweet tea will make your southern grandmama proud ;) Love this place!
Great service ! Food is wonderful and very friendly !!Would highly recommend!😊
Very friendly and kind staff. Food is very good for a quick bite before walking some more!
Great place for a quick bite, with really good sandwichs!
Used to be a good establishment, now it has gone dramatically downhill.
Service was good and friendly. The food was average.
Great hospitality and a good place to eat!
Huge sub great price
Cashier was rude, food was sloppy. Dont waste your money.
Love they chicken salad
Rude employees and tasteless food.
Good food
Awesome
I had to spit my food out. Terrible food. Terrible service.
Very good food and attention. There is nowhere to park and no bathroom.
