I wish I had looked at the reviews before agreeing to put my hitch on at this location. My appointment for installation was on June 23rd, and since then I have continue to find problems throughout my truck. The first issue arose on the day of my appointment. I had the very first slot of the day at 8am and was told that my truck would be ready first thing midafternoon and that I would receive a call upon completion. I never received a call and I needed my truck back before my children were let out of Summer Camp. I waited on the phone for an hour and twenty minutes before their answering service picked up the line and informed me that it was just finished (mind you I was already on site when she informed me of this). The second issue was discovered on Friday when I noticed something sticking out of the hood of my truck. What they carelessly forgot to do was replace the cover of my battery and smashed the cover while closing the hood. This bent the cover and it no longer sits properly on my battery. Third issue appeared a week after installation when my husband got pulled over for our left tail light being out (we had no idea, we assumed they wired everything back up). I showed up the following day around 4:30 and was told they could not help me because their technician was not available. This was frustrating for me because I had my two small children in tow and this issue needed to be resolved immediately, not only that but I had to travel from Leesburg, so it was not a short distance. Yes, I did call ahead but remember that their answering service has poor reaction time to their callers, and I could not wait another hour plus for them to pick up the line. Their only female worker told me to come back at 7am to speak to their manager Mike (I believe). That was again frustrating for me to hear, because how the heck am I suppose to get there at 7am with two kids?? The next day rolls around and I show up at 11am, I speak to their manager and he was extremely apologetic and kind, he fixed the issue in 5 minutes. I informed him of the battery cover as well and he says that sometimes they are in a hurry to install hitches and sometimes forget these small details. He informed me that he would speak to his technicians. The fourth and final issue was discovered today while cleaning the truck, I found that my wiring box in the third row was misshapen and not replaced properly, leaving a huge ecstatically unpleasing gap. My husband and I are upset and disappointed yet again... All of these issues they had with my hitch install should of been communicated with me once I came to pick up my truck. I never got an answer when I came to pick up my truck, all they said was they got busy. For the price you pay ( roughly $350) I should of paid the extra $100 to have it completed at Ford, it would of cost me less of a headache.
I had a great experience. Easy booking. Friendly and fast service. Convenient location. It was easy for me to modify my truck rental return time using the website (I needed an extra hour).I was most impressed that Ryan went out of his way to make sure that I didn’t overpay for gas. He offered to refund me the difference without even being asked. He went above and beyond and earned a loyal customer in me.
Dont get a hitch and wiring installation done at this place. They messed my electrical wires that now I have to pay extra to fix the wiring they cut without my permission which I found out after getting a warning from the police. Plus, make sure to check the pricing online first, because they will not hesitate to add couple more dollars to your bill of course unintentionally.
Customer server Nini is the best. Very helpful and friendly. She got moving truck at same day (from different location: Sterling, but I got it same day !!!!)
I wish zero stars was an option.This is the biggest bunch of incompetents in the U-Haul system. I had a morning appointment to install a trailer hitch and by 6 o’clock it has not been done. No apologies, Only a “it is what it is” answer. Absolutely no accountability or any management evidence in this location..
U-Haul of Chantilly is amazing! I recently rented a U-box to help my daughter move. Picking it up was so simple. They connected it for me, checked and double checked for safety, ensured the lights worked, and sent me on my way. Later, I returned the u-box to them for storage for a couple of weeks until my daughters place was ready for her. When i went back to retrieve the u-box, i didnt realize that U-Haul typically requires 24 hour notice to pull it out of storage. I was so concerned because we had movers meeting us to unload the heavy items from the u-box, plus this was right before the Thanksgiving day holiday and my daughter really wanted to be settled in her new place to celebrate the holiday with her Grandmother. Matt (the manager there) went above and beyond! He fast tracked the process...he pulled the u-box from storage and we got to my daughters new place in time to meet the movers! The entire team at U-Haul in Chantilly, VA was so helpful and professional! I cant emphasize how wonderful my experience was with this company! Highly recommend!
Watch out for these people working here. They will give you the U Haul trucks with much less fuel in it so when you return it they will charge you guys extra.
The whole process from pick up to return was very smooth. My truck was ready to go right at the lot entrance and there was someone from the staff to take back the key as soon as I arrived back and stepped out.
I rented a trailer from this location and worked with Matt. He was very helpful. I had to switch trailers after I picked up because I needed a ramp and Matt didnt complain or give me any slack. He understood my concern and helped me without hesitation. I rented a trailer for one day and had to call and extend and Matt again happily helped me. This location is clean, organized, and customer service was excellent. I will return and recommend to family/friends.
DONT BOTHER. My mother in law drove drown from INDIANA to pick up her furniture that she left here when she had moved. She made a reservation and now apparently they have no truck. The employees were laughing at our pain for the fact that my mother in law IS ELDERLY AND DISABLEDAdditionally my dad was a manager for uhaul last year and left the job because they don’t care about their customers only their money. This company is honestly such a joke. They overcharge at this location too… I would’ve told her to go with someone else if she had asked me. Waste of money. Don’t care about their clients
Friendly staff, quick service for pickup and return of a trailer.
Understaffed and a physically small location. The staffers were nice, but because of COVID, they dont have many people there to handle customers inside plus deal with people who need help outside. The lot outside is way too small for a company that deals in moving trucks.
We paid and booked our appointment to get our trailer hitch installed three weeks ago. My husband confirmed the appointment a few days before. Imagine our surprise when he goes to get the trailer hitch installed today and he is told that they dont have the part and that we should have confirmed the part number when he called to confirm. Were moving in 4 weeks and are now scrambling to get a trailer hitch put on. Two thumbs down.
Went in to have a hitch and wiring installed on my vehicle. When I went to go pick it up they didn’t put the bumper back on all the way. We had to wait for them to find the screws and put them back on. Then went to leave and my car wouldn’t start. They drained the battery and had to jump start it. AND if that wasn’t enough, they incorrectly put the bumper back on my car and it was rubbing on the paint. I had to take off work, AGAIN, and drive back for them to fix it. The general manager said someone would call to refund the labor but i never received a call. I called the next day and the guy said, “I was suppose to call you yesterday, right? I forgot.” Terrible service and the quality of it was bad as well.
Went in for a hitch install. Had made an appointment days in advance. Took a day off from work and dropped the car off to them. They had the car from 1030 till 1430. Did not answer the phone when I called. When I show up on site to ask about my car. They tell me I am next in line and approximately will be 2 more hours. They should reimburse me for the time I took off from work.Terrible terrible experience
Picked up vehicle, gas was just under 3/4 of a tank. Was at 2/3 by the time I pulled out of the parking lot. Single load moved my stuff and used about 18 miles. 3 gallons @ $7 got me back to 3/4. They definitely dont check gas level to see that level is accurate. 6 mpg on 10ft truck when 50% of trip no load seems unlikely. This is only thing that made it 4 stars over 5. Rest was simple and went well.
I went there for propane for the grill. It is cheaper than doing an exchange. There were five customers waiting in line and no employees to be seen. When I made it to the front, they told me to go wait by the propane station. After 10 minutes, a guy came to fill my tank. Then, I had to go back inside and wait in line again to pay. With an hour of my time, I am not sure I saved anything by filling the tank. Also, signs said everyone must wear a mask, but clearly that didnt apply to the employees.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS LOCATION!!! I returned my uhaul and as a precaution I always take a picture of the ending mileage. The ending mileage was 83,277 and on my receipt it was listed as 83,300!!!!! So they just ROUNDED UP?!?!? This is UNACCEPTABLE AND FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR. I called to get it refunded and they said they would “adjust the amount” and we’re not very empathetic at all. I waited 30 mins for the updated receipt and after it still not being emailed I called and was told it would take 3-5 business days to be *refunded*. So you literally round up the miles, take money that is not owed to you, aren’t sorry or apologetic about it, and then give me the bank runaround!?!?!? Talk about a customer relationship destroyed. Terrible customer service and makes me distrust the company as a whole. Make sure you take a video of the truck before you get in and pictures of everything so they don’t just “round up” on your bank account. I will be contacting corporate about my experience and leaving a review on every platform.
We recently had to rent a auto transport and a pickup truck; the total price is NOT what you see when you get a receipt when paying upfront...instead they charge extra on the miles without disclosing the fees. From $100 can actually be $200. BE-CAREFUL! With U-Haul. First time and last with this company.

I needed a box and packing materials to ship an unusually sized item. Nothing at the store seemed to fit my needs but the crew there went totally out of their way to assist me with what I needed...they went way above and beyond to help me out. It was amazing to see these guys and gals work to figure out what I needed and then went to the next step to actually customize the shipping box to suit my needs. I was quite impressed, its refreshing to get customer service such an excellent level. The total cost for my transaction? $10.50. My satisfaction? PRICELESS! Well done!
Make sure you get a real quote. They quoted 19.95 a day but then charged 89.95 because I drove 100 miles! They are not nice and treated me rudely. The best place to rent from is Budget and they are right around the corner! I will never ever go to u-haul for anything else. Update. We were just charge an additional $60 On our credit card without any explanation. Budget rental is the only way to go. Unscrupulous practices
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this location, and we have had some pretty horrific experiences with other locations in the past. So it was awesome getting great service from Fabi, his daughter, and all of the other workers! Definitely worth driving a little further for great service here if you don’t live right down the road from this location. Highly recommend!

Only have good things to say about the staff here. I needed help to load my car which has low ground clearance on a trailer, after being denied service at other UHaul locations in the area because they falsely thought it would damage the car, these guys agreed to help me out.Ryan, Mike, and Kelsy were very professional, they did a fantastic job with the Load assist, there was no damage to my car and they were really quick about it as well.This is customer service at its best.

Awesome! Reserved the truck online with 24/7 access. Corporate office called us to confirm. Then when I went to pick up the truck, online said I would have to wait until 7am for pick up because the office closed at 7pm. It was 7:30 and staff was still onsite closing out. They reopened their register and helped me out. Moving is stressful enough that it was much appreciated to find kind staff willing to help us after their closing. Got squared away and moved our stuff with success! Thanks guys for being so accommodating!

Fast and easy. Staff was professional and trucks were in good shape. Drop off was easy, just emailed me a receipt and I was on my way.4 stars only because I had to park on the street and walk back a few minutes. Car was fine, just make sure your arent in a towing zone.
I haul often motorcycles, and come here almost exclusively. The staff here is very friendly, courteous, professional, and attentive to customers needs. I really like these people! The rental equipment is plentiful and always clean. Go here!
Stay away!!!! I booked a reservation online for a 26’ truck. I get to this location and they say my truck is not there because my reservation was aftersomeone else?? When you reserve something itmeans to retain or hold, they did neither. I had movers scheduled within 30 minutes and they really put me in a very bad spot. They offered to a truck where I had to pick it up in Alexandria completely out of my way and they didn’t open until 2 hours later! I called Penske Trucks, and 5 miles down the road they had a 26’ truck available to me with very good quality and exactly what I needed with great customer service. This place I would rate a 0 if I could. I have one thing to stay to U-Haul, get your reservation system together because it seems you have caused a lot of people here many headaches reading the reviews, and I would restructure this location as they are not on top of their game.
My hitch got damaged in transportation, had to wait another week then I got in and they didnt have me in system (Although they told me they do over phone) had to pay another $66 for priority service... Very badly organized

Read the reviews specific to the hitch installation service, not the overall rating. I had an hitch and wiring installation completed and the wiring harness utilized was the wrong part. The harness was not tested correctly. Ensure you have the harness actually connected to a trailer and test it before accepting the product. I am three hours into waiting for the harness to be replaced on a day I should be moving. Of course the Chantilly store could care less and transferred me to corporate customer service. After just over 16 minutes on hold, I disconnected the call. I recommended another Uhaul location for hitch installation.

I came in and rented a storage for 6 months. I remember lowering the door and locking it before I left. After about 2 months I started getting called about the storage unit was locked open and they would need me to come in and close it and relock it. I did not respond and they cut the lock and replaced it with their own lock and kept the key. I kept paying for 4 more months before I decided to take everything out of storage. I got the unit key from the front counter and after moving everything out. I remember the bicycle was missing and talked to Craig the GM and he said he reported it to his insurance. I havent heard anything yet
IS THERE SUCH A THING AS NEGATIVE STARS?Reserved online...no place on companys website to specify pick-up time.Company cancelled reservation because I wasnt there at 1200 and didnt answer my cell phone.Yes, UHaul...there are people in the world who work and are unable to use their cell phones during the day.I saw the message when I powered up my phone and returned the call...no answer (they were open).As an added bonus, the trailer we rented for six days was no longer available.If I arrive on the agreed-upon day...during your operating hours...you should have a trailer waiting. Otherwise, why do you request credit card confirmation?The sarcastic customer service representative seated at the counter just added to the experience. But then, hell get paid whether I rent a trailer or not.Ill buy my own trailer before I waste time here again.

The most horrific customer service experience I have ever receive. I spoke with Ahmed in the Scheduling department to negotiate a better price on my U-Haul rental. He continued to be sarcastic with smart remarks. I would fire any employee of mine with that attitude. To management, please see my phone call on Friday, August 4th, 2017 around 2:55 EST on your recorded line for training purposes.
Everyone here was very friendly and accommodating. I rented a pick-up truck so I could move a dresser I planned to purchase from Craigslist, and they threw in extra pads for me just in case. It turned out that I couldnt pick the dresser up due to some personal unforeseen misfortunes, and when I returned to U-Haul they gave me a full refund for my rental because I hadnt taken it anywhere. They were very sympathetic, very kind, and very professional. Specifically one teller named Nicholas Diaz took care of everything for me both days. Im very grateful for understanding and accommodating businesses like these.
I have 4 boxes for storing equipment. Worst damn experience ever. 1. Our payment does not go through because of fraud activity. So, I need to give them a new card. Cant do it. I call and at the point where I think I am leaving a message ... I get hung up on.So, I try emailing to the contact I have on file. Nope bounce.Then I get a pre-lien notice saying I have 10 days to cure. No phone number on that piece of paper. I do notice that I can pay online. So, I give that a try. Ooops, I cant remember my password. I enter my email and wait for the new password. That was an hour ago. No new password.I have now been on the phone for an hour trying to pay these folks. The original call center lady was very helpful, but could not help. After an hour she sends me off to the Traffic Department. I finally paid but wow that was difficult.
Huge facility. Equipment rental and drop off is very coordinated. It couldnt be easier. They even have a loading bay for trucks at the self storage facility.
Really good people and fantastic service. However, they are always short-staffed or are not attending customers. I have gone there at different times of the day and have to always wait t be answered at least 10 minutes. Very frustrating.
The truck was extraordinarily uncomfortable to ride in, they wanted it returned by 7:00 am and didnt even open until 7:30, and when we got there to return it in the early afternoon there was no one there and the doors were locked on a Tuesday. When we called them they said we may have to return it to there other nearest location, 40 minutes away. Luckily someone showed up and reviewed the vehicle so we could get on our way, but the entire process was fairly unpleasant.
My family and I moved and rented trucks and bought many boxes from UHaul. I heard the add saying how they recycle boxes and want you to return the boxes because they care about the environment. I had one box I wanted to return and they wouldn’t give me cash because I didn’t have a receipt. They said they would give me store credit. What am I going to do with. a dollar and change of store credit. It is so ridiculous and a waste of my time! Who keeps a receipt for boxes, especially after you move! I found the woman to be unprofessional and rude. Don’t go to this UHaul location.
Horrible service, first asked for a tow dolly and that would pick it later in the day, and needed it for 24 hours instead put it as of time of pick up at 12pm and for only 6 hour. Horrible service
Dropped off our car trailer at this site and our vehicle was damaged on employee directed download. Beware of high chance of undercarriage scraping and the management indifference towards your propertys well-being. Recommend using another location of U-Haul or other company for equipment rental or drop off.

THE WORST place to store your items in UBox. Ive used this storage area for over 7 years and Almost Every single time Ive called to request access to my UBox the day before, its Never ready. Ho we is that? My time is just as valuable as theirs.

This Uhaul has no business sign. Cannot see from Main St. I told them Id be there to get my 15 truck as reserved and confirmed. It was all given away when I got there after being lost without being able to see business sign. I was told Im lucky to get a 10 truck instead. Also, that Friday is just too busy to keep reservations. They sent me a text that tricked me into going to a different Uhaul than where I originally reserved, although I reserved it a week in advance on Monday in Chantilly. The text failed to clearly say a full address including the city, which had changed to a city an extra hour away. And, it later requested me to return the truck to a non-existent address.
No complaints. Check-in and out of trucks was quick. Fair prices.
Id done plenty of moving between apartments. This time was into our first house. Aside from a minor shortage of furniture pads, this U-Haul was clean, well-staffed, and friendly. I didnt have to wait in line to pick up or drop off my truck for more than 5 minutes, and the service was great!

Had no help with solutions either. Needed a 26, through deeper inspection found out no truck would be available for another 2 days?! What?! Ill be posting to every website; BBB; FaceBook; etc. No discounts offered, free blankets, nothing.

They are every bad people, l rented a truck on May 29th, and I forgot handheld dex it is to excutive .then I went to store three times to asking about it. In every time they say that ( the truck is not here, it with another customer)when coming back we will check it and call you .l waited one week to anyone call me .but no one takes care of that .after one week l met the manager but he spoke with me rudely and did not admit their mistakes and responsibility for the missing things .Now l sm looking for the corporations phone number if any one knows,please send it to me

Our favorite u-haul location for renting vehicles. They have an abundant supply of vehicles.
Worst customer service contact experience. You call the store, it is ALWAYS rerouted to main service center. Service center says it cannot schedule an appointment only new service installations. They say call back and maybe they will pick up on the phone directly. They never pick up the phone directly.
After turning in the vehicle and the inspection and closing out the invoice I was charged an additional $75 dollars for gas services even though the vehicle was returned at the agreed upon level and the level the vehcile was given to me at. When I tried to call to resolve the issue with the store they sent me to some 800 number who opened up a reference ticket but was unable to help.
I just wanted to take moment to let you know what a valuable employee you have in Dan. We got a hitch for our Dodge Durango from another Uhaul location. Well after getting squeezed in to the already booked schedule we get a call from Dan letting us know that the hitch was not the right one- he had already located one in Fredericksburg and volunteered to drive down there to get it for us and STILL get it installed that same day. That alone is enough in my book to get 5 stars for customer service. When we showed up at closing time to pick up the vehicle we decided it would be a good idea to have a 4 pin to 7 pin adapter for towing larger trailers there was none available so Dan stayed late and hand made us one (as if he had not already gone the extra mile to serve us as it was)! I was very impressed with his commitment to customer service and as a business owner myself I know how much employees can make a positive or negative impression on customers- you guys have a valuable employee in Dan and his representation of your companys customer service and willingness to go the extra mile has left a lasting impression and will cause me to refer any friends and family that need hitches installed to you guys in the future as well.
I never got to step into the facility. So this review maybe as uhaul as a company. I reserved a truck at the Old Ox location in Herndon online. They then changed it to Monday. I needed the truck for Sunday. So I canceled the order. I then called the Chantilly location Sunday morning and asked if they had any 15 foot trucks left. She took my order and reservation and told me I could pick up the truck at noon on Sunday. So great! No I get a call at 11:50am and am told they dont have any more trucks?????????? So why would you reserve my order??????? Then call me 10 mins before pick up??????? I am already almost at the facility at this point. I understand it was short notice but I called the Mobile in Reston that rents uhauls and they at least told me they didnt have any. I forgot to mention the woman who took my Reservation was pretty rude. She told me to stop talking over her and listen while I was trying to get my conformation number. I was repeating her to make sure I was getting the right number. Anyway my entire uhaul experience was pretty awful. But I guess I saved $60. I just had to make 5 extra trips with pickup. Hopefully next time I move Budget will be better.

Worst truck I have ever rented from Uhaul. Doesnt start until the 5th try. Jerks and shake on the road with every gear change and very unsafe, broken mirror and damage sides. The worst is when I returned it and complained all I got is oh yeah, we are going to retier this one . Not very helpful staff, bad truck experience.
