Awesome coffee and breakfast varieties, such a unique ambience and great polite hosts.. never had such distinct coffee flavor, the coffee could be hotter though, but we didn’t mind it because of the other things the place has to offer. Very good and different vibes, and besides the indoor ac seating, the place offers lovely open garden seating as well. This place is my all time favorite now. I’m surely going to have it again if I come to Buffalo/Niagara again, and recommend it to my friends too. I wish they had a branch in Bay Area.
Underwhelming yet again. I recently returned here hoping to have a good experience after several very disappointing visits years ago. As much as I wanted to like it here because it had such a great ambience and friendly staff, the coffee was just not good. Perhaps it was my mistake for ordering a drink I normally wouldn’t go for - the salted caramel dark chocolate latte. It sounded delicious on a cold Fall day but unfortunately, the whipped cream was the best part. The first few sips were overwhelmingly sweet and the last few sips were oddly bitter but also had a strong almost alcohol taste. Not sure if it’s the flavor syrup they use or what but I was not impressed by any of it. All in all, a very cool cafe but with the lackluster food and drinks, I will likely not be returning.
Great coffee, with a large variety. Came across this place after a long day at the falls and Childrens Museum. Very glad we stopped in to grab a couple of drinks. Was later in the day, so there was no wait. Employees were very welcoming, and really liked the atmosphere. The people who own this place have to have a great sense of humor, as it originally was a funeral home and the decor is related to that, in a witty way.
Cool place! Nice selection of coffee drinks. We went there on a holiday, so it was very busy. Turned out there was going to be a 45 min wait for food, so ended up getting just drinks. Cappuccino was great. They have a nice selection of sandwiches etc., so would definitely go back another time to try them out. We also got a bag of their ‘fresh roasted’ coffee, but that turned out to be roasted 21 days ago - not exactly what I’m expecting when visiting and paying for fresh beans at a local roaster, so that knocks off a star.
This place is awesome. They have an amazing atmosphere and theme. The food is delicious and creative. The staff have always been helpful, kind, and accommodating. I like that they also host art shows and work from local artisans. They partner with many other local businesses and have created and amazing community of people. 5 stars!
We went here based on the high reviews and good looking pictures. This was deceiving. The coffee was decent, but the food was a disappointment. It was a long wait and expensive for cafeteria style food and precooked eggs. If you are hungry, you might be better off going to a McDonalds. There are other cafes nearby that have better coffee and food.
Great place for good coffee, good food, and unique inviting atmosphere.Locally brewed kombucha on tap. Tasty coffee. Generous menu with vegetarian options.Unique artwork on the walls, charming patio dining, warm, inviting staff.Theres even a neighborhood groundhog that calls himself Under Grounds Hog.
Always a great spot for your morning drinks and food, or as a solid lunch spot! Great place to meet up for business or casual.
My family and I spent a week in Buffalo. After a long rainy morning at Niagara Falls we wanted a warm cozy cafe in downtown Buffalo. I looked on Google Maps for a cafe and saw a pin for this cafe. Although I was surprised that it was not near other cafes, I decided to take the chance. It was the best decision of our trip. This cafe had some of the best food in Buffalo. Everything we tried here has been good. Especially the scones. The first time we went we got a blueberry scone which the barista kindly warmed up and gave us sides of butter and honey. Frankly it was the best scone I have had since my trip to Scotland in 2015. I also loved the vibe of the cafe. The mug was wall was hilarious and the crosswords were a good way to spend time waiting for our food. All around this cafe was a good 5/5 stars.
They have directions very easy to read posted at the front of the building and all on the inside. The food is delicious and the coffee too. You can buy a shirt to support or a coffee mug. You could buy a coffee mug with a deceased person on it as well. Its an offer all really cool place being an old funeral home. The women working their were super nice!
Support local business! The owners converted a former funeral home into a coffee shop- you need to check out the decor! Well worth it! Great coffee and I had one of their breakfast sandwiches and really enjoyed it!
Coffee not so great. And I was handed a cold cookie that tasted like a stick of vegan butter. I feel like kinks need to be worked out. I’m just writing this review to warn you that you might have an experience like mine. I wasted like 7 dollars, because I threw both out. The girl who waited on me was super nice though, so that’s a bonus!
Found this place while in Buffalo and trying to find a non-Starbucks/Tim Hortons option got breakfast. There was a bit of a wait for food, but my breakfast bagel was delicious and def hit the spot. They have a great space with outdoor dining and have a lot of fun sandwiches you can choose from. My partner ordered the seasonal summer sandwich and I built my own bagel. Def worth a visit next time youre in Buffalo.
Neat cafe and coffee shop operating out of a former funeral home, so you can expect a little dark humor along with your house-roasted coffee. The coffee is the star of the show, too. The house espresso roast makes for a velvet-smooth pick me up in a cup and the whole bean Guatamalan is my new favorite for pour over coffee at home. Its a quirky, fun place - a little tight on space inside, but they offer a whole suite of phone, online and app purchasing, so you can easily order to go if you prefer a low contact experience. Parking wraps around the building but there are stairs to negotiate if you enter from the lower lot.
Love the food as much as the customer service. The atmosphere is great too! I’d post pics of the food, but I’m always to excited when I get it to think about taking a pic! An amazing place all around. Thought about not doing a review because it’s such a hidden gem and that’s helps make it awesome. I sadly haven’t had the coffee yet, but I’ve had several food items including The Rick James B**** sandwich and The Ralph Wilson breakfast sandwich that were amazing. I would definitely recommend this place! Also, Bridget is great!
This place is amazing!! My boyfriend and I come here all the time, they have a good selection of food so we are able to get something different. Inside of the shop is so cute and the staff is so friendly. They have the best chai tea lattes in buffalo. I wish there was more undergrounds every where that is how good it is! Everyone should go there!
Absolutely amazing food and venue. Try the summer breakfast sandwich special, you will not be disappointed. It is well worth the wait- all the ingredients were great, the staff was amazing, the music was great and the venue is quaint and cool. Highly recommend and will return.
Do yourself a favor and go for a meal here. My friend and I split everything. We ordered a breakfast bowl, an Alfred peet(a), a yogurt parfait, medium latte and cold chai tea. Prices are super reasonable and everything was delicious.
Got the Ralph Wilson with egg and bacon on plain bagel. It was delicious. The Breakfast Bowl we ordered with sweet potato hash, egg, green pepper, tomato, pepper jack cheese and mixed berries was amazing. Many different flavor combinations in every bite. We just happened to find you online and very happy we did. Come on people, you must go here, even if you do live 5 minutes or 50 miles away. You will be rewarded with some tasty goodness.
If youre looking for a great place to get coffee and breakfast thats close to downtown this is the place to go. Several of my friends and I have gone and weve always had a great experience there. Support a local coffee joint and go here!
Came in from out of town and found this place. Such a cute nice place to get a quick breakfast, and delicious coffee. Beautiful decor and wonderful staff!
My turmeric and ginger tea was super spicy and full of flavor :) The coffeeshop is spacious, with two large rooms; one with large open-plan tables, and the other with bar-style bench sections. Quiet, peaceful. A/C ok-ish (could be mildly colder, but not terrible). Decoration fairly interesting.
Amazing atmosphere, super kind and genuine employees, and I love my latte!! Vegan is totally welcome here, waiting for my sandwhich as I write 😋
This has become our new favorite location for breakfast/coffee on-the-go. Highly recommend!
The vegan breakfast sandwich is unreallllll! So delicious!!! Their coffee is usually amazing, but lately its been tasting a little too watered down and not strong.
Vibes 🌸Iced chai latte w almond milk 🌸order online for a quick pick up
This place was super cute. Visiting my cousin in Buffalo & she brought me here. Staff is energetic and friendly. Great menu selection with lots of options. Love the decor of the place. My girlfriend and I returned a 2nd time before we left Buffalo to grab another order & merchandise to bring home. Wish we had a place like this near us in OH.
Good staff, food was basic as a bowl of oatmeal. Mac and cheese was more like mac and cereal. Would go to spot coffee instead for that focaccia.
Hip coffee place with a large menu. The blended espressos were delicious and the bagels and house made cream cheese are to die for. Very kind customer service as well. Will definitely visit again!
Fantastic sandwiches. And all day breakfast. Coffee is roasted on the premises.
Such a cool place! An old funeral home converted into a coffee shop and aptly named. Our daughter shared this place with us. I didnt have a coffee but they said it was delicious. I had an Adirondack Cola. Its a regional product. Really good. My wife and I went down the mug wall seeing which famous people we could guess. Try this place when in Buffalo!
As far as coffee shops go its just okay. The parking is good and has easy access. The building is too old needs to be demolished and start over. The product and the concept that theyre peddling is top shelf, in the better location with a better building, this place could be five stars easy, they have a lot to offer.
Ive had everything on menu and its really good food and the cups on the wall are amazing lil history and food I like it alot
I purchased the Kaldi Salad with chicken. It is amazing would highly recommend this salad. One of the best sellers I have ever had he will not disappoint you
Wow! Full disclosure that I am a long time customer of Undergrounds and even helped out there on the register and doing dishes in the past but today I was out of coffee and went down to get a bag of Sumatra beans and a Sumatra pour ever. I decided to get the Summer Sandwich - egg, cheddar, Swiss, bacon, housemade chipotle blackberry jam on a panini pressed bagel!! This was honestly the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had and I highly recommend getting it before it’s gone. We all know summer is short so fit in as many of these breakfast sandwiches as you can!!
Great spot for coffee and food. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu and they serve breakfast all day.
They microwave the bacon and eggs for their breakfast sandwiches. Egg should never be microwaved and certainly not at that price. It’s such a cute place too. So disappointing.
Today, I decided to embark on the old 1st ward in Buffalo, to check out Undergrounds Coffee House and Roastery. Did you know this place was once a funeral home? Dia de Los Muertos styles decor funktified this place, and brought out the macabre history of the building. They roast their own beans in the front of the house, so you know youre getting some fresh brew.Check em out!
Great everything. Wish they were open longer hours because their coffee is great and food is delicious and affordable.
I ordered from here for the first time today and it was great! I got an iced chai tea latte and I LOVED it! I also ordered the colonel francisco breakfast sandwich, but swapped the bagel for a wrap and made a breakfast burrito for my order. The food did not disappoint, it was very yummy! I definitely plan on going again soon!!
This place is awesome. Its tough to find a real cup of coffee anymore, but they hit it spot on. And the breakfast sammies... Out of this world! The William Wallace oatmeal was really good too. Sure its a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Money cant buy love but it can buy coffee made with love!
Everything you want in a American Café. Diverse selections, Purposeful theme, and delicious.
We always make a stop here when in Buffalo. Great coffee and food.
Delicious iced frappes! Lots of options to choose from.
Excellent coffee and friendly staff. But the parking lot was designed by a dyslexic sadist.
The only reasonably priced eatery in the area - great breakfast options!
Its got great coffee, and an enjoyable atmosphere.
Delicious food and drink and very helpful staff! Cant wait to return to try other delicious creations!
Great cup of coffee! Also some delicious food too.
Not totally underground but the house roast pour over was good and the sandwich was excellent.
I got the everything bagel with bacon breakfast sandwich with a small coffee. Everything was perfect and the staff was super friendly! And I bought a bag of coffee to go which they ground up for me!:)
Very rude staff.Walked out without ordering anythingWill never be back.
Best funky cafe ever! Dont miss this when in 🦬
Pretty mediocre— the bagel sandwich with apricot spread is a little too sweet and they got our order wrong. The drip coffee was very regular, no bright notes or body but the people were very friendly. Side note: The baked goods were truly bad.I wouldn’t return again but if you’re less picky I think you might find it decent!
Great breakfast place, nice and courteous staff there. Highly recommend
I frequently go to undergrounds, online pickup works great, always great coffee and sandwiches. I would recommend to anybody visiting town and if youre there on a weekend get the Tim russert.
So happy to have this in the neighborhood. Its a proper coffee house with top notch coffee and food, multi level seating, and plenty of space for people to spread out and enjoy the cafe for hours, while drinking, reading, working, etc. The food is thoughtful with names related to Buffalo and coffee pioneers, and are unique and tasty. There is even an extensive kids menu for little tikes who come to the cafe. The decor is phenomenal, with custom painted murals all around you, featuring bright colors, and a mix of day of the dad and New Orleans jazz themes- which really pulls the multiple rooms together. They even do local events like Trunk or Treat, a Christmas Tree lighting, and do candle light yoga. The ladies who run the place are passionate about the product, and put a lot of thought and time into each recipe and each drink- even where the coffee comes from. The beans are freshly roasted every week, so you are getting the freshest coffee possible overtime you come in. Also, their t-shirts that they sell are incredibly soft and super comfortable. You need to check it out for yourself.
Really great coffee shop in the heart of the old first ward. Both the coffee drinks and panini sandwiches here are delicious. What used to be a funeral home has led to the New Orleans, day of the dead themed cafe. With art made by local artists and Edison lightbulbs that go along with the aesthetic of other modern restaurants in Buffalo, the décor is just as cool as the menu.
Coffee and the humans involved dont get much better. Places like this, make Buffalo great.
I do not get down to South Buffalo very often, so I decided to swing by Undergrounds and I am very glad I did. Ordered a salted caramel cold coffee fusion - so good. Recommend giving this place a try, and will definitely come back when I am in the city.
Loved this little spot!! Friendly and the food was amazing!! Next time we are in the area we are definitely returning!
Berry drink is soooo delicious 😋
Delicious food and coffee and just an overall cool place to be
Rude service and sloppy sandwiches.
Great little coffee spot! The colonel Francisco was amazing, I will be back!
Delicious and unique food and drinks.
Ordered sandwiches for lunch and coffees. All were excellent!!
Best breakfast sandwich Ive had in WNY, service was fast, the apricot spread was fire and a great unexpected pairing with the Ralph Wilson sandwiches my girlfriend and I got. Will definitely be returning to try some more sandwiches.
The rick james was good, the sandwich with the cinnamon buns were kinda burned and tough to chew on. Maybe cook the cinnamon buns a little less and you will have an excellent sandwich!
Great vibe, very reasonable prices, a good selection of food. Good staff and I enjoy my time here. The espresso isn’t consistently brewed well, sometimes it’s off, but not enough to not enjoy being here.I appreciate the healthy options available. There is a cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich too, so they provide the full spectrum!
Darn good coffee.
Fabulous ambiance and exceptional menu options for light, healthy and tasty fare!
I love everything about this place. The outdoor and indoor decor is so fun and different. The food is ALWAYS good and also unique - whod ever thought to put Teddy Grahams on a sandwich before?! Now they have breakfast bowls too! Get a giant bowl of fruit, oatmeal, and nuts or one chock full of eggs, sweet potatoes, turkey sausage... The list goes on! And the house coffee is always perfectly brewed 👌BE SURE to stop in soon!
Best coffee in Buffalo... when we leave this city this coffee will be the only thing I ever miss
Good coffee, great atmosphere!
They sell my favorite macrons from the Blue Eyed Baker and now I dont have to wait for the farmers market this summer to stick them in my face hole!!! (This could be the most privileged, suburban sentence Ive ever uttered. Yes, I do also enjoy pumpkin spice. How did you know?)
Cool interior great service.
Super great place to get your coffee from, high quality and stellar service. They have a great selection of food and drink options
Nice place, good coffee, but Im sick of waiting 30 minutes for my 1 coffee everytime I go
The staff are always attentive and the food and drinks on point! I didnt realize I was starting to get a usual until one day I was asked if I wanted a non-fat latte and a sesame bagel w/ veggie cream cheese 😆. So naturally I had to spice it up! You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu.Join the mug club. ☕👍
It has a bohemian atmosphere with business casual clientele. Most of the food is made to order, so expect a slight but well worth wait. The portions and quality justify the prices.
Ive only ever had their coffee fusions, which are blended heaven. It is currently 44 degrees outside and I still drank a pumpkin pie coffee fusion, because 1) ice anything tastes better in the cold and 2) pumpkin pie. Their breakfast sandwiches are very filling and oh so tasty. I got a simple bacon egg and cheese on multigrain and the flavors blended nicely. It was super filling and will keep me going the rest of the day.
I had a really great time here. The food was delicious and the portion size was generous.
1st time I stopped in. What a pleasant surprise. Great options for drinks and freshly prepared healthy choices of food. Plenty of seating to relax and enjoy
