I cannot say enough amazing things about Bloomington Stitchery! I brought in my bridesmaid gown from David’s Bridal to be altered for my sister’s wedding only to find out there was a manufacturing error in the way the bust was put together. The staff went above and beyond to make this dress fit properly, they even reached out to David’s Bridal for me to inform them of the situation. I appreciate all they did for me - they didn’t even charge me extra for the extra hours and effort that went into fixing this dress. Again, THANK YOU!! I received so many nice comments about my dress and everything fit wonderfully!!! You all are the best!!
Im so glad I found Bloomington Stitchery! I brought in a dress with a small hole, which was fixed on the spot for a great price. (Though, if you have a larger project, definitely call ahead!) Super friendly and skilled staff. Also, the atmosphere in the shop, between local crafts for sale and Barbara the foster cat, was so comfortable and charming. Give them all your business!
Prompt reply and excellent customer service when inquiring about a custom order.
I had ordered a suit for a wedding from Indochino, which is supposed to pre-fit their garments according to measurements - needless to say, Indochino messed up.I went to Bloomington Stitchery with a vague idea of the alterations I wanted to make, and a less than 2 week deadline to get them done in time for the wedding, and their staff helped me hone in on the fit I was looking for, and completed the alterations well in time for my event.I just picked up my suit today, and I couldnt be happier with their work :)If youre in the area and need any alterations done, this is the place to do it. The stitchery staff are kind, patient, and above all deftly talented at their profession.
Really talented staff and very welcoming, body-positive space.
Awesome quality of work, and great communication as well!I have had pants, Chef jackets, etc. altered here. I am always ecstatic with the end results and the fair pricing.Give them your moneys.
Got my wedding dress altered here along with some pads put in the bust We’d also had some bunching issues that they fixed and I was very pleased with the results. I am in love with my wedding dress and they’ve insured this. I had a very pleasant experience overall, the price was fair and I will be returning. I highly recommend.
I took my wedding dress in to get an estimate on alterations. I had communicated with Liby via email beforehand and sent her pictures, so she knew what I wanted done. She was very thorough and patient and professional as she examined the dress and drew up the estimate and advised on next steps.
There is a reason theyre constantly in demand: theyre simply the best in the region. I have had suits and other mens clothing altered by them and not only are their skills clearly shown in the work, you will look and feel better when choosing Bloomington Stitchery. While the folks up front are usually busy working on projects for clients they still create a fun atmosphere and a welcoming environment. Ill never find myself in a steam filled dry cleaners trying to get pants hemmed again!
Did a great job adding gussets to make a dress fit my ample bosom and upper arms when it fit everywhere else. Price was right and they are always fun and easy to work with. I send any and all alteration work to them now. From custom wedding dresses to smaller needs you cant go wrong with Bloomington Stitchery. Local small business, LGBTQ+ friendly, body positive safe space.
For our wedding my wife wanted to give a nod to her mother (who had passed away many years before), but knew she would never fit into her ultra-petite mothers 1960 tea-length wedding dress. We consulted with the Stitchery and came up with a plan for a vest that would feature the beautiful brocade fabric from the original dress. It was so so perfect and meant so much to us.They truly are incredible, and if you go into it with the understanding that they are human (mostly, sorry Waffle......and Miranda...:-P), and that they have an expertise in this area, in which you are seeking assistance, you will come out of the process with a piece that you can cherish for a lifetime. In all honesty, the entire team (especially Liby & Miranda) are extraordinary!
Liby did an amazing job on my wedding dress. She did so much work, hemming several skirts, lining the entire bodice, putting in several straps and hooks, totally replacing button hooks, shortening and taking in sleeves, and she did it extremely well. This really helped me make this dress my own and feel comfortable in it on my wedding day. It was a really fun atmosphere in her shop and I loved having her work on my dress. Thank you, Liby!
I had 2 dresses done and they did a fantastic job. One dress was a cheap formal dress I bought online that was to long for me as I am 51 and they hemmed the bottom to floor length and it fit me perfectly. The other was my wedding dress, they altered the length and added breast cups inside and it also now fits me perfectly they did exactly what I asked for. I will never go anywhere else for my alterations and highly recommend them. You cant even tell the dresses have been altered. They are very friendly and professional and very helpful at suggesting options for a better fit.
The owner, Liby, took care of my wedding dress alterations 10 years ago back when she worked at Davids Bridal. I am so glad she has gone out on her own to start this new shop. She is the real deal and dealt with taking in my beaded lace dress masterfully!
Liby hemmed my wedding dress and did a FANTASTIC job. Bloomington Stitchery is always punctual, professional, and takes great care in making every garment they work on the absolute best it can be. We never go anywhere else for our tailoring needs!
Great service, but very inconsistent pricing.Went there late in the fall to fix a hole in one of my track pants and was just charged $5.Today I went in and was almost charged $25 to fix a hole in 2 of my pants and fix a small inseam on my jeans. Was given the option to “rush” which would’ve had them fix the problem by Tuesday for $50. Going to look for a more cost-efficient alteration place.
Bloomington Stitchery provides a fantastic experience, and I love their lively and lovely conversation. Liby did all she said she would, and everything was perfect. A+
Absolutely superior work at this place. Libys attention to detail on even the smallest projects and repairs is second-to-none. They restored my favorite pair of jeans and made them even better than they were the day I bought them (thanks for the embroidery, Liby)! The price and wait time were wildly fair, especially given the high demand that the business sees. A+ customer service. ❤
I got my wedding dress altered here & they did such a great job! The attention to detail is amazing, they made me feel incredibly comfortable, & not to mention they have a shop cat named Waffle that’s cute as heck!
Got repairs done by them on some pants, great experience and service
Liby did a fantastic job with my wedding dress! She worked through some very difficult alterations, and she did it promptly and at a reasonable rate! Not to mention she is super fun to work with! Highly recommend!
They did an amazing job with my reception dress. All around wonderful people to work with!
Bloomington Stitchery was my go-to for alterations when I lived in Bloomington. Liby and Miranda both have an eye for how to tailor an item to be comfortable and make you feel (and look) good. There is literally no one else I trust to honor my vintage pieces while giving them a modern vibe -- so much so that I recently drove my vintage peacoat across four states so that Liby could replace the torn lining. Liby communicated with me from a distance to pick out new lining and worked with my travel schedules to ensure that it was ready for pick-up when I returned to town a few weeks later.
I went in to get a bar put on my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt. They had other things going on but when they saw I was in a hurry and it wouldt take long, they did it right then and there. While they sewed it on, they chatted me up and gave me a piece of chocolate. The belt turned out great! theyre some of the nicest and most skilled folks in town!
I sent a wedding dress in for some alterations-nothing too major, but I definitely wanted to make some changes to the style of the dress. When speaking with the owner she was very positive and I felt like we were on the same page, but she was not the person who actually worked on my dress and that seamstress was a bit of a nightmare to work with. Not only did she not alter the dress in the way we had specifically discussed, she was over a week late in contacting me for the first fitting, which at that point was about a week from the wedding. These dates were discussed and I was assured there would be plenty of time. Additionally, she was very hard to coordinate fittings with as her other job schedule took priority to her seamstress job. I was quoted one hourly price and then when I showed up to pay was told that it was actually a higher hourly price, and one of the things I paid for was the wrong size. The sleeves on the dress were crooked and two different lengths and the slip that was made did not even fit me. She never took any measurements and when I said something about it not fitting she got very defensive and told me that was the design. I wanted to speak to the owner but she was on vacation until after my wedding so I just paid the money, took my dress, and ended up buying another off etsy. I think the owner is probably awesome, just make sure shes the one working on your dress and above all, bring someone with you as a witness and advocate in all seamstress situations. I felt bullied and was treated in a rude and deceitful manner, but had no one for support and just wanted to gtfo as soon as possible to avoid further negativity and get on with my wedding.
Good job with pants alternations.
