The breakfast baguettes are fantastic. The food doesnt overwhelm you with cheese, grease or sugar. The ambience is quiet and nice. Probably my top places in the east Bay to get a healthier substantial breakfast. Truly a 5 star review for this place.
Oh wow- delicious breakfast (poached eggs on polenta). Suggestion: I love toast so ordered that too, the polenta was delicious but I could only finish half, it was a lot of polenta, granted I ordered toast but half the polenta and one slice of toast included would be great! Anyway Ill be back and check out more items on their menu.
What a great little coffee shop! Super friendly staff that seem to be grounded in their community. It was fun watching folks walk by and pop in to say hi. Also they have a GREAT spicy mocha :)
Are you a coffee lover and have a hard time finding a real good coffee among all these trendy espresso places where the coffee is either flat, acidic, tepid, or all of the above? Then go to Guerrilla Cafe and enjoy a real cup of coffee made by people who know what a good coffee tastes like. No need to add sugar, cream or any of these fancy flavors to make your coffee drinkable! Enjoy a truly aromatic and full bodied coffee made by people who love coffee.
A fantastic somewhat unknown place. Their spiced mochas are amazing and they have the best avocado toast in town
Real food at fair prices. Everything is super fresh and tasty. Cozy and lively atmosphereGuerilla is a staple of the neighborhood
I tried egg croissant sandwiches this morning, and it’s really tasty!
Small cafe with good coffee drinks, outside seating - sunny in the morning. Their pastries are limited, but quite good. Made locally, they told me.
So glad they were open early. Made a nice spot for us to sit and the food was great
Socially conscious joint with fresh and delicious brunch offerings. It’s a small place so it’s best to try and snag an outdoor sidewalk table.
Stopped into Guerilla Cafe the other day and got my favorite dish Eggs Mediterranean with a Horchata Latte and it was so, so, so delicious! I was kicking myself cause it had been too long since I had last been and I have no reason for not stopping by sooner. The food is always delicious and the service is always warm and inviting. Chase away your pandemic blues and stop by Guerilla. Enjoy!
One of the best place to get espresso-based drinks in the East Bay, Guerrilla Cafe is a long time establishment amount locals. It is chronically understaffed, in part because it is both small and popular, but you sometimes get the feeling that its purposeful in order to maintain its anti-establishment vibe. Expect good food and coffee, and a long wait.
Great food. Nice staff. Eclectic atmosphere.
Cute decor often featuring all kinds of different local art, great coffee and tasty food. Also the staff is super nice! One of my favorite places to go study or get breakfast.
The brunch was amazing and they are really nice!
Café africano was alright. Nice pulled Espresso shot but meh milk pour. Good distancing rules in effect.
The food was incredible, Ill definitely be back. We had the plantains, black beans and rice with chicken, everything was so flavorful. The owner is so nice.
Great food: superb for breakfast. Excellent waffles, omelettes and strong coffee. Diverse crowd, fast casual dining. Order at the counter and your food is brought promptly. Smiling service 😊 people and a pleasant atmosphere.
Quick service, tasty food (they make the hot sauce, available upon request, in house and itd good!) and felt safe dining in the carve out on the street with plants between us and passing traffic.
Great place. Friendly employees, good food, priced well. Plenty of vegetarian options. Not usually crowded. Great spot.
I’ve been going to this cafe for years, and each time I visit Berkeley I try to stop by and grab their poached egg and toast. Cute vibe, down to earth staff (mostly - but there can be exceptions ;) ), and yummy menu. I also dig their core values which, while not advertised, are evident from the wall and table art.
This is a bitter-sweet review: I really dont want too many people to find out about this place because it is already small. But I love Guerilla; I want others to know them too. I love the cubanos, and the prosciutto plate, and the waffle of the day. I hear the avocado toast is good and my son is in heaven when he eats his favorite - the cinnamon challah. I love how the cafe doubles as an art gallery too. I have always had a pleasant experience; I have no reason to doubt that others will too.
Either egg sandwich on their menu is worth a special trip here.
Outdoors on a sunny day made it even better
Love this place. Not run of the mill. No chain. Authentic. Great coffee.
A favorite of mine for breakfast. Simple menu and tasty. Love their poached eggs and they offer them in dishes. They serve Artis coffee👍👍 which is so smooth with low acidity. Great vibe inside their small dining area. You will have to wait at busy times (only has 5-6 tables and counter seating) but I wont remove a star for that. It is worth the wait or just come at non peak times.
Always a nice place to visit. Its charming and so are the people who work there. I usually stop in for a quick coffee to go and if they are running low they brew a fresh one for you.
Great little Cafe.
Had a veggie sandwich here for lunch. Tasted fine, but the disappointing thing was that it seemed to be pre made. They plucked out a sandwich in which all the veggies had already been grilled, and basically put it in the grill to reheat and melt the cheese. At $11, I expect fresh food. Smiling service and all that.
Awesome place! Cozy, hip coffee shop with a great vibe. Super friendly staff, food is delicious especially the egg croissant sandwich. The home made hot sauce is seriously delicious! Highly recommend!
This place is tiny, so it can be a little hard to score a seat. But, once you do, youre in for a real treat! The coffee is amazing, and the food is uniformly delicious. They have one rotating waffle per day, and Ive never been disappointed with the selection - the waffles are topped with a little yogurt and fresh seasonal fruit. Im also partial to the smoked salmon plate, which has toast, poached eggs, smoked salmon, cucumber, and capers. The best way to do Guerilla, in my opinion, is to go with two people and split a savory option and a sweet option for the best of both worlds.
I had been past this place several times and finally went in. So glad that I did. The food was beautifully presented and tasty as heck. The staff was super friendly and the music was great. I definitely recommend the small Cafe.
I had been coming here for a while because I love the place itself, the delicious food and the great music. Unfortunately today I was turned off the place after an unpleasant experience with the barista mentioned in other reviews. After impatiently taking my order which I quickly made so as not to annoy her for having come to the cafe for breakfast this barista never served me the coffee I paid for and I had to awkwardly go and ask her very friendly colleague, who cooks there. It was uncomfortable after this weird behavior and I thought what a pity. Perhaps her employer treats her badly I dont know but I wont be going back there.
Great quality for simple, standard brunch fare. Order and pay at the counter, and wait for your food to arrive. Sidewalk seating available. Reasonable prices. Rough around the edges in service, but easy to forgive.
Great food, and quick. Excellent service. Even when busy, I havent had to wait long for a seat.
Superb breakfast fare, great workers, excellent desserts, fair prices. The ultimate in fast casual.
I love the vibe at this place. Its a tiny diner decorated with feminist propaganda. The staff is friendly and they have some fun menu items. I like the eggs mediterranean: poached eggs on toast with feta, tomatoes, and cucumber. And they have an horchata latte. Yum.
I love this little art-infused organic/local foods cafe. Great menu and great art that rotates each month. Always packed but worth the wait. One of my favorite places to eat in Berkeley. The music is great as well.
Rarely write reviews, but just terribly customer service. I ordered a drip coffee (which Im fairly sure I was charged for a pour over) and then waited directly in front of the cashier for 20min without any sign of getting said coffee --- when I finally asked she seemed like she had no recollection of having taken my order & charged me & gave me a small cup of pump style drip coffee. Seems insane that a) forgot my VERY simple order b) did not even give me a large or anything more than a oops for having wasted 20min of this lovely day
Through a bit of good fortune, wandering around the Shattuck, and basically rediscovering the area after being away for years, I happened upon Guerilla Cafe sometime in early 2011. Entering, I ordered a cappuccino, eggs and smoked salmon, and say at the bar chatting with the kind staff as they did their thing. It is this friendly atmosphere I have experienced and come to rely on every time I hang out at Guerilla Cafe...plus, if I remember correctly, they were asking the first (were they the first...?) to serve and sell Blue Bottle, the Three Africans blend the one I could never pass up. If you were to ask me I would highly recommend cozying up at Guerilla, have a cup of coffee, a cappuccino, or a Gibraltar, and a bite to eat...tip well...it may not be expected, but its deserved. 🙏🏻☕🍞🤘🏻✌🏻
The service here was honestly terrible. We came in while the shop was slow one morning to grab coffee to go. We ordered a tea and an espresso, and waited at least 15 minutes (no orders in front of ours). The barista stood at the espresso machine applying cucumbers to her eyes. She even stepped outside at one point and her co workers seemed annoyed. Finally our drinks were poured. Overall, long wait, bad service, okay coffee.
The service couldnt have been better. Great atmosphere and amazing food! There is no table service (you order at the counter) so I wonder if some of the bad reviews are from people who sat down and waited for someone to come to the table.
The coffee was rather sour and bitter, but the food was decent and the music was good. There is not a very large selection of food though. Good coffee would make this a 3 or 4 star cafe. Also, the cafe is very not wheelchair accessible.
The food is fresh and well-prepared and the staff is nice. The outdoor seating is perfect on a sunny day.
Honestly 3 stars is pushing it with this place. 12 dollars for one waffle that honestly was over powered with cinnamon the texture was very tough as well. I got the savory polenta which was pretty good but also over priced for what it was. The coffee was excellent I would highly recommended the Cubano definitely brings me back to Miami. The service is excellent that’s what really makes this place amazing the staff is truly welcoming and incredibly accommodating!!
I went there right when it opened at around 7am.... I bought a salmon breakfast dish.... I decided to tip but realized I shouldnt have when the server wasnt very nice.... I said thank you when she dropped it off at my table and she didnt say anything back.... Also the cashier wasnt very nice either.....In general the food was very expensive and was just ok.... Service not very good. Wouldnt go there again
Great place - great food - great service
Very nice place for a brunch. I drink a very good cappuccino (a great compliment from an Italian)
Such a fun place with excellent, clean food.
Delicious breakfast. We had salmon with poached eggs and the croissant sandwich (with scrambled eggs. Nice cappuccino! A place to revisit.
This place is awesome! I had fantastic poached eggs on gluten free toast, sitting outside in the sunshine... bliss.
L have visited this place several more times and it is a consistently good breakfast spot! The coffee bar always offers different flavors, and I enjoy trying the different ones they have.
Food was very good!
Tasty food, small portions, somewhat slow service
Breakfast thats pricy and not traditionally breakfast. Low space and people like to hog tables as an office space. But good staff and quality food
Their waffles are done perfectly, but keep in mind theyre only served in the morning (til 1pm?). Staff are friendly here, music is nice. Im a big fan of their paninis too.
Gorilla Cafe is a great local spot, especially if you are looking for some affordable breakfast that is absolutely delicious! Recommend trying their lychee mimosa
Love this place! Food is great, ambience is awesome. My favorite breakfast spot in Berkeley.
Bought a pastry here when I was on the go and it was very good.
Coffee was good but I stood at front for several minutes before being acknowledged by barista, then they were out of coffee which is fine, happy to wait- so I sat at the bar for 15 minutes (I timed it) before I had to prompt the other barista that I had already ordered my coffee
A little pricey but you can order a large carte and single items. Patrons are well to do but laid back and dont mind waiting in lines clear out the door. A locals favorite.
Poached eggs on levain toast was great. Coffee was good. Only downside was the little kids bouncing off the walls at the counter
I love the food (such great polenta!!!), the vibe and the people who work here... Pretty much my favorite place to brunch in the East Bay
This place is really small and sweet. I like their croissant breakfast sandwiches. I had the smoked salmon and eggs breakfast the otherday and it was perfect. Great spotif you want a cafe unnthe gourmet ghetto
I was impressed by the ambiance of the place and the design and decor. However, the barista who served me not as friendly or welcoming as what I might be used to, and the iced americano I got was lukewarm due to the few pieces of ice that were placed inside it. Lastly, I had to begin clearing the table I sat down at before the barista noticed that I needed help with the plates. Overall great atmosphere, but the service could be improved.
Guerilla cafe is a great breakfast / lunch place. We love to eat here before a hike around Redwood Park. The portions are generous and the price is fair. The staff always seems friendly and helpful. The music and decor are also great here.
Tasty food and great drinks at decent prices. Definitely check it out!
Coffee is divine delivered from heaven on the wings of angels
Food is great, lots of vegetarian options, but be prepared to wait a while for it. Pumpkin spice waffle was very tasty!
Small counter style with a few tables along the wall. Strong coffee.
Great food, music, artwork and staff... highly recommended!!!
The best waffles around. Great toasts with eggs. Amazing coffe
The prices are super reasonable for the quality. $7.75 for a delicious prosciutto plate with 2 poached eggs. Yes please!
One of the best espressos Ive ever had, though a little on the pricy side. Cool vibe. A pity it isnt open later.
I had lunch at the Cafe today with two friends. We met around 11 am because we heard the place was busy and noisy. My friends arrived first and ordered coffee, which didnt arrive until I arrived and ordered my own. No coffee for another 20 mins, and even that took speaking to a staffperson. We ordered a simple lunch and waited, watching a party who arrived after us get served. Our salads arrived but it took another 20 minutes to get the third order.I requested the check, fearing we might get stuck waiting for it. I paid with plastic on a laptop; the wait person asked if I wanted to tip. I explained why I did not. Later a second person came over to apologize and offer us a card for a free waffle. The food and coffee were OK, but the service and chaos did not work for us. No one expected elegant dining, but this was just sloppiness.
Bad service for the steep price. Just went in to grab a cappuccino and waited 10 minutes - and that was with NO line. Another weekend I had brunch there and the tinny place was packed, so it took 15 min. just to get the order in, which is understandable, but the barista and servers clearly showed their excuse me....Im busy attitude . Not pleasant. When the food arrived they mixed up tables and were very confused. We had to explicitly ask for utensils twice. We ended up fetching them ourselves from the kitchen.
Main draw is Blue Bottle Coffee from french press by the cup or mid sized press reasonably priced. Funky and leftie themed, pleasant, yummy food. Sidewalk seating.
Good. Hearty breakfasts, but a bit pricey. #vegetarianfriendly #eatoutside #dogfriendly
Some of the best avocado toast in the east bay, and great Artis coffee
High-quality food + coffee packed into a small space. Fun atmosphere too.
This place had an awesome rasta vibe to it. Really good breakfast food if you can stand the wait!
Really good coffee and nice breakfast options. The place is small so seating is limited.
Just wanted to say I read Reneé Ws review below and I couldnt stop laughing. HAHAHAHA!! Funniest thing Ive read all month! I love this place now! Someone should give the employee a medal. Lol
Awesome coffee shop with decor on point and excellent coffee. Staff is very friendly!
Great cafe with a hip atmosphere and WiFi. I also like that I could get Blue Bottle bags of coffee here.
Classic music, and friendly servers the best ever food is delicious
The best waffles!
Beautiful place and delicious food
Excellent food, high prices.
A good morning coffee and breakfast place in the Gourmet Ghetto.
Food was not bad, but I dont know why it took almost 20 minutes to get a simple panini, maybe not the best stop if your time crunched
Good coffee, great breakfast s
Ive only had their expresso. It is excellent. They start with good coffee, but good coffee does not automatically result in quality expresso. A great barista is required.
Its all about the polenta. The service was great too.
