Amazing food. Perhaps the best toast of my life. The harissa egg was delicious too and the cardamom macaroon. Basically,, everything was great..They serve Heart coffee too. Highly recommend for a breakfast, or whenever.

Still one of my neighborhood favorites! I love their eggs and their tartines. Their seasonal tomato tartine is one of my favorites. Oh and they sell the harissa they use on the eggs in a jar!!

Have been coming here for years. They are probably most well-known for their avocado toast (which has a generous amount of avocado on it). The olive oil egg, daily savory scone, and other toasts (seasonal tomato, standard toast with butter and jam) are tasty as well. One star reduction for price. One piece of toast should not cost nearly $15, especially when what makes it so good is the fact that it’s on Acme bread (a whole large loaf of which sells for 1/3 of the price next door). Otherwise, it’s really tasty.

I have been there 3 times. Each time I really enjoyed what I got. I ordered Persian Breakfas and avocado toast.Bread is the best and plates are really beautiful. Prices are a bit high but not too crazy and you can will get high quality food.

This review is only based on the Latte I had - I drink a lot of coffee - especially Lattes, and know when I taste a good one. But this one tasted like given from a coffee machine. The flavor was bland and I could taste milk rather than coffee. Plus, it is expensive! 5 $ and some cents for 12 ounce! Not done.

I wasnt there very long, but the service I observed to all the guests before me was thoughtful, patient, and kind. Its rare you can find a cafe were you dont have to know the staff or become a regular to get a smile or some kind words in.The espresso was sweet and balanced well with their plum and pistachio galette, and the staff there seemed to authentically enjoy working together while handling the morning crowd. Would highly recommend visiting.

One of the only places I know that serves the awesome Heart coffee from OR. Also, the food is absolutely delicious. Doesnt hurt that theyre sandwiched (pun intended) between Acme (some of the best bread in the Bay Area) and Kermit Lynch (great wine).

This place is awesome! Tucked in a corner near the Acme bread shop, it has anything a good coffeeshop should have — friendly staff, delicious coffee drinks and a great selection of toast options. They were out of avocado toast the time we visited (not in season), though we really enjoyed a trout plate! It feels like a gem spot among both locals and visitors. Want to come back there for a glass of wine ;)

Cute hip youngs slinging avocado toast and Heart coffee (aus Portland) in a tiny space. If youre tempted to deride it as a fashion victim place, try the food first. Its great. I had a frittata with a proper dollop of aioli straight out of Spain, and a really nuanced cardamom macaroon that was just excellent with my African espresso. I loved it.

This spot has great cappuccino. Seriously, so good. They also sell coffee beans from Heart (coffee roasters in Portland) which have turned out to be one of my favorites to make at home. Theyre a good place to sit down and chat for a bit, and they also have some good food bite options. Just note that their hours arent long compared to other coffee spots (they close by 4pm usually).

I love this tiny place for the good coffee, delicious Persian breakfast, good toasts, and tasty sweet things. Its hard to get a table and the place is often crowded and people either stare you down for your table or do the opposite and just sit and gab long after theyre done eating. But except for the seating problem I really enjoy coming here.

This Cafe used to be one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, they have a very strange practice of getting local avocados and stopped serving avocado toast during various seasons. They also arent capable of advising customers when they will be offering it again. Its nice to get local organic produce. However, we also live in a global market/world and it doesnt make sense why they dont offer avocado toast all year round. If they cant offer all year round they should at least be able to advise what seasons they will be offering their foods. Customers will just go elsewhere. It makes no sense to me why they cant just purchase avocados from an additional source in off season. Second, they appear to offer a number of healthy choices like the Porridge. However, after further review I learned there is a very high amount of salt being added to the Porridge that isnt very healthy. My suggestion is to remove the salt completely and/or have an option for people without it. I would continue to use the Acme bread since that makes the toast a winner.

I had some time to kill before my salsa class next door. It wasnt much time so a place Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Barwas a must. I stumbled upon this place on a Monday night hoping for a warm drink to fight off the cold weather chills. Unfortunately the coffee bar was closed, but the bar was open for business! I thought to myself wouldnt it be fun to lose your inhibitions before a dance class? Like any bar, you had to be 21+ to enter so they check ID at the door. People under 21 are excluded, but dogs arent! This bar is dog-friendly. I saw one inside!Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar

Heres a really quaint little coffee bar across the street from Golden Bear Inn on the corner of Cedar Street and San Pablo Avenue. I came here every morning for breakfast when I made the trip to drive my daughter up to campus for orientation. The cappucino was really good and she loved the avocado toast. Theres so many good place to eat around Berkeley - honestly, its a foodie heaven - but this place, petite and kind of hidden, is always busy because ... its that good !

Classic breakfast and lunch joint next to one of the best bakeries in the east bay. You order your food at the cashier and they either call you or bring it over when ready. The food is very good. Avocado toast is renowned and the rest of the menu is just as good. Prices are in line with Berkeley. Menu is limited which I like because it means they only make what they are good at. Seating is limited and lines can be long but its all worth it. Very hard to find something to complain about with the food.

Bartavelle has some of the best coffee in Berkeley. I appreciate that they import beans from Heart up in Portland for us to enjoy here in Berkeley. I vote this to be one of the best mochas (double ristretto) in the area. I like that bitter dark chocolate note that fades after the first couple sips. The food really sets them apart as a food forward cafe. I wish I worked in the East Bay during the week so I could enjoy a lunch here with fewer people in line.

My favorite place for avocado toast when it’s in season! So delicious with the Acme levain and the perfect, buttery rich avocados that they use. My favorite neighborhood cafe in Berkeley. I missed Cafe Fanny initially when Bartavelle opened business in their location, with different food, etc., but now I go there regularly.Friendly owner, staff, comfortable to sit and eat at the counter. I had my first avocado toast there, liked it so much, learned how to make it for times that I couldn’t make it to the cafe. Now everyone and their brother offers it, but theirs is still the best version I’ve tasted here and at hip eateries out of state.Bartavelle only offers avocado toast when avocados are in season; they also make a seasonal (summer) version of tomato tartine using flavorful Early Girl organic dry farmed tomatoes on a thick slather of aioli. When I was eating grain, I enjoyed eating their special porridge - 4-5 grains, trumpet mushrooms, kale, etc. So savory and tasty.
