The white chocolate mocha i think its what I had WAS AMAZING! I got it iced since its hot outside but Im definitely coming back for more. First time coming to Highland Coffees and I loved it. Only suggestion I would have so far is that the wooden chairs are a bit uncomfortable for someone who wants to just stay there for hours. The place is cozy but needs better seating options. It gets full so the comfortable couches get taken quickly!

The atmosphere: clean and spacious with high ceilings and outdoor seating. There arent many places to sit if its midterms or finals.Service: its alright, the staff get your order and fill it quick enough, though often times Ive found them to drag on their own personal conversations when theres a line. The coffee and pastries: Coffee is good, not amazing but its perfectly fine while reading or having a coffee talk with friends. The pastries are overpriced for the below average quality. They taste refrigerated, artificial, and unpleasant.

An amazing place: great coffee, friendly staff, quite (perfect to study and work while enjoying coffee), comfortable room temperature (vs freezing at most other places), clean, a lot of seating places indoors and outdoors in a small banana trees garden. Well, I am biased since I worked here 14 years ago... but its such a great atmosphere and the coffee, teas and foods are really delicious. So many teas to choose from, so many coffees roasted onsite. Fresh ground coffees, granita, espresso drinks, blended drinks, muffins, cakes and other sweets, bagels and croissants... everything Ive ever had is really great. Owned by a local who is on site every day to make sure everything is running smooth. Always interesting art to see (rotated frequently to give local artists exposure), delicious desserts (made by local bakers), interesting articles to read (sit in the comfy chairs and fall asleep), and certainly always interesting conversations to have with the variety of patrons. A staple for Baton Rouge as much as the Chimes or LSU itself, you owe it to yourself to drop by and give it a whirl. Grab a cup before or after you go to the Chimes or Louies. Theyre open late!

A Baton Rouge staple, it remains a good spot despite itself. The location is unbeatable for any study session (or pre-game walk to Death Valley), and LSU’s finest minds can be seen here engaging in enlightened conversation along side the local counter-culture bohemians. Despite the high potential, the owner plays drab music to match the styrofoam to-go cups and hasn’t updated anything since the 80’s (& not in the best ways). It’s basically a beautiful thing with a bad haircut, and if they’d just adjust the vibe with some much needed style it could truly go from good enough to great. Employees are generally cool once you penetrate an initial social barrier of distance, and if you’re in the area I would always recommend a quick (or long) visit to B.R.’s finest coffee shop.

I absolutely LOVE this place!!! I go for the fresh roasted coffee beans. Students probably go for the WiFi... and caffeine. I live in the area and finding ANYWHERE that roasts their coffee in house aint easy. Once youve had fresh roasted, youll be loathe to get grocery store (roasted months ago) beans again. They also have loose tea for sale or drink. Snacks too as any coffee house should. For the true coffee connoisseurs out there, this place is a must! Keep an eye out for bags marked as natural as these are air dried instead of the usual water drying method. Gives a whole new flavor to the exact same bean and Im personally a fan of it, though your mileage may vary. The owner doesnt get these in very often. I might start a petition?...

You can walk in and order a high quality simply medium cup of coffee that is clearly better than a grande youd get at the Starbucks. Atmosphere is also great if you wanna sit. Fantastic local coffee joint popular among both students and regular denizens of Baton Rouge. Great place for study groups, catching up with friends, or enjoying a coffee alone while reading a book (there is plenty of intentional lounge chairs or singles seating). Along with typical coffee shop fare is an intriguing selection of daily brews that rotates, one day it might be a Sumatran blend or the next day a Kenyan roast. Their cold brew selection is virtually unparalleled among other coffee shops in the city. The outdoor seating is fantastic, and in the spring the vine overhang of jasmine smells incredible. Coffee is cheap, tons of seating and great atmosphere, I always try and visit at least once during a stay in BR.

This shop is in a convenient location and the outdoor seating is nice, but the coffee is mediocre at best. The real problem is that the people working here never clean the steam wands of their espresso machine, which should be a health code violation. They recently got a new espresso machine, but its steam wands are already disgusting with old, caked-on layers of dried milk, just like the machine it replaced. Cleaning the machine is common sense and they dont even get that right. Theres no telling what else isnt being cleaned. Stick to iced beverages if you have to go to this shop.

We met a couple folks here the other day, just by coincidence, and talked for three hours about 1970s Louisiana festivals, poetry, and art, meanwhile feeling no rush at all from staff or other patrons. Definitely a selling point. Classical and jazz often plays softly over the speakers, not so loudly as to be intrusive, adding to the welcoming vibe.
