Tone I/O is my go-to for anything amps, hands-down. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable and professional, Adrian is a very friendly guy that clearly loves what he does and always stands behind his work. Ive taken several amps to him over the years and they always come back sounding fantastic and taking anything I can throw at them. Ive also purchased one of his builds and it has quickly become one of my regular workhorses, both on the road and in the studio...just an amazing sounding amp thats built like a tank and always gets compliments from other guitarists as well as live/studio engineers.Do yourself a favor and check out Tone I/O.
My experience with this shop matches the excellent reviews I read prior to my first visit. My Goodsell amp -- boutique combo amp made in Atlanta -- was making a strange noise on certain notes so I took it to Tone I/O. Adrian not only diagnosed and solved the problem but also installed some RCA NOS tubes which sweetened the tone of the amp. He also repaired a Boss Chorus pedal -- he knew the parts in the pedal and accurately predicted the solution before he ever saw/heard the pedal in action. Beyond that, Ive called him multiple times with miscellaneous questions about amps, pedals and speakers. Hes never been too busy to offer advice and act as a resource for assorted questions about electronics, tone and products. Highly recommend!
My amp didn’t sound this good when I bought it 20 years ago, such a difference to have it all dialed in! He’s great, but he’s busy, worth the wait!
Adrian seems like an alright tech, but I was not pleased with his work overall. This is just my 2 cent review. Maybe he does great work, but I was not very satisfied with his work. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I have experience in electronics repairs and other customers do not. I had him convert a hand-wired amp from 220V to 120V. He went over the projected time to finish, used a brand of power transformer I specifically said I didn’t want, and then the day I got it home the rectifiers went out so I was stuck with a broken amp. He agreed to repair it under warranty, but only after a bit of fuss. Once he repaired it, I took it home and it seemed fine. Then I started having issues with popping noises coming from the amp. Numerous emails back in forth revealed that past the 30 day warranty, he will use any excuse to not work on it without being charged. He also tried to blame the faults in the amp on a device I used. THIS AMP IS POINT TO POINT HAND WIRED so I’m not believing a device will take out a solid circuit like this. The device I used was a Hot Mod V2. The designer of the Hot Mod stands by his design that it can do no harm to an amp. Ok back to the other stuff. I understood the warranty thing. However, after looking at the work he did, I was not impressed. The soldering was sloppy, and the tube socket retainers I had him install were marred from installation. There was also burn marks from the soldering iron throughout the area where he installed a new tube socket. He even tried to tell me he did not replace a socket and tried to say it was factory wiring. I basically caught him on a lie and then he admitted to replacing it. However, his reason didn’t make sense at all. He said it was due to the preamp tube sockets retainers I wanted installed. I do not believe that because the pairs of sockets were the same, yet he installed them on all the others. Basically he broke one of the sockets trying to install the red colored retainers as is evident by all the marring on the rest of them. He might do good work on name brand vintage amps worth $, but I’d be hesitant taking him anything with less value because you won’t get the same care. That is the feeling I’m left with after my experience. I do not like to leave reviews that are negative, but musicians should be aware. This guy seems like he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but he’ll take on whatever job he can get money for. He may say he has a degree in soldering, engineering, and blah blah. His work says otherwise. You can see what appears to be a cold solder joint and burn marks all over the tube socket he installed in the picture. Look at the owner’s response pointing it towards the hot mod. He’s basically a bad car mechanic you take your car to and the mechanic blames the car’s problems on the type of oil you use. And I specifically told him I did not want a Weber transformer the day I dropped it off.
Wow what can I say… I brought in my Ampeg SVT 1000 which had multiple problems… When I picked it up, it sounded amazing, like it was new and had no more weird noises or humming… I highly recommend Tone I/O for your amplifier repairs… Top notch repair service, affordable prices and great customer service…
Adrian is awesome! The best Amp Repair around period. His shop is clean and organized, his prices are great, he is very thorough and details everything for you. He is honest and doesnt sell you anything you dont need. Its an absolute pleasure to do business with him! Dont look any further, just take your amp to Adrian and take comfort that it will be in good hands and will be well taken care of. I couldnt be happier!!!!!
I had made a posting about looking for a Tube amp guru in Austin in some Facebook groups and received lots of recommendations and Adrian at Tone I/O was recommended at least 6 or 7 times in the couple of posts I made. But what set his recommendations apart was that many came with some sort of anecdote - like Adrian is an encyclopedia of knowledge and will know exactly what to do to make your amp work its best for you - things like that. So then when I went to his website and saw pics of his space, where he also sells vintage amps, I knew that hes got all the right stuff and experience with lots of different amplifiers, and so the job would without a doubt be professional - in fact his 3 week wait list made me even more certain that he was the guy! Well, when I dropped off my amp, he took his time talking to me about all of the options, and possible issues it might have, etc. In fact, I had to cut him off because I had somewhere to go. As a new yorker, I was amazed at his willingness to stop what he was doing to take the time with me - people dont really do that where Im from. Anyway, when I picked it up, it was brought back to life, sounded great, I got to demo it there and A/B it against one of his vintage amps, using one of his guitars. He talked me through all the work he did, and after I heard I expected the bill to be much higher than it was! His standard tune up includes lots of TLC! I was very happy with such a reasonable price being he had to change lots of caps and stuff. Anyway, I found my guy. Thanks, Adrian!!
They did a great job refurbishing a Peavey Classic 30 that had been sitting in a garage unused for nearly 20 years.
Great shop with a super knowledgeable owner. If you have an amp that needs repair they can do it. Great selection of guitar pedals and some really sweet custom amps. A guitar players dream
Adrian is hands down the most knowledgeable, professional and transparent repair tech I’ve ever used. As long as I live within a driving distance from his shop my gear will go there for repairs or service. His prices are incredible and he never goes looking for extra unnecessary expenses to make a few more bucks, he’s straight to the point. I’m very grateful for his shop and the service he does for his fellow musicians. I’m not one to just go giving out 5 stars to any place but Tone I/O has earned it.
Absolutely excellent work. High recommend.
Every experience here has been a great one and this is definitely my go to music shop for austin. The quality of repairs, gear options, and help Adrian offers is crazy.10/10 if google would let me.
Took my Marshall JMP 50w head to Adrian for some work and a tune up. Sounds better now than it did in 1978! Clean shop and great customer service. Take your amps here, seriously.
Adrian is a very talented guy with very little ego. He’s knowledgeable and friendly. He knows his craft and listens to his customers needs rather than imposing his own. I asked him to see what could be done with a guitar amplifier that I just could not find the sweet spot with. After asking me what I hoped to achieve, he put it on his bench and nailed it. He’s the real deal and even builds custom amps from the ground up. After decades of searching, I found my tech. Open dialogue, extremely competent workmanship and fair pricing are greatly appreciated!
I brought my Marshall amp to Adrian at Tone I/O and it was an all-around fantastic experience. He told me up front how long it would take to get diagnosed and his estimate was right on. Once he figured out what it needed, he called and explained it. I told him to go ahead and he went right to work. The cost and the time were both exactly as estimated.Adrian runs a great business - very transparent on cost, nice clean shop, and does great work. I would definitely recommend!
Adrian is very easy to deal with, very knowledgeable, and very meticulous. Couldnt recommend him more.
Adrian is a stand up guy. Always ready to answer questions and help diagnose the issues and explain how he did the work and the value of it. I just called for advice and he was there to help. I ONLY go to Tone I/O for my amp needs!
Stellar service, stellar advice, turned around in the time quoted. Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Brought in a fairly difficult amp to service, and it sounds better than new to my ears. Very happy customer.
Have been to see Adrian many times, trust him with any project. His shop is very clean, easy to get to, and he is a super nice guy. He is patient, will answer all your questions, and always treats you with respect, not an arrogant bone in his body.
My Clark tweed amp desperately needed a tune up. After reading some reviews and noticing that Weber speakers endorses Tone I/O, I decided to give it a go. What a great choice! Adrian showed tremendous knowledge and respect for my amp, and quickly had it sounding like new at a very fair price. BONUS: He does pedals, too. He went way above and beyond to get some of my vintage effects back in working order. Highly recommended.
Took an amp to Adrian....fuses shorting out. I asked for the full amp Tune Up service. He did an excellent job in repairing the unit (it works), and what was impressive is that his receipt included all the things he tested, checked, replaced, ect as a part of the tune-up/trouble shoot. Hes got a very modest bench rate, and only charged for incremental time beyond the tuneup to do the repair (like 15 minutes to replace faulty capacitors and resistors). You also get a detailed parts list of what he replaced. Overall, great service and great prices.
Adrian is so great with communication. I felt like I had a child/pet/loved one in the hospital the way he would band give me detailed updates on everything. It was nice to learn about the problems with two of my amps and how they were resolved. Adrian has a very pleasant way of educating the customer. I was very pleased with my experience and will be returning as more amps give me problems!
Adrian is very cool and laid back, definitely knows his stuff and is a pleasure to work with. I look forward to working with him again in the future. Mitch @mythic_guitar_company
Adrian did such a thorough and spectacular job bringing my dear old 64 Vox amp back to life. He was communicative at every step and spent a ton of time on the amp without bringing repair price up along the way. Adrian is clearly passionate about amps and guitar electronics and knows exactly what hes doing. I wouldnt hesitate to bring any project his way.
Great experience all the way around. Adrian is very thorough and very fair. His rates are outstanding. Hell go the extra mile and work with you so that you are satisfied. He got me fixed up on my tweed amp that I gig with regularly. Everything is functioning perfectly and the amp sounds great. I couldnt be happier with the service and the rates. Very nice guy too with a nice showroom of great used amps and guitars. Ill definitely go back there. Highly recommended. Thanks!
I’m a repeat customer and couldn’t be happier! I was looking for a speaker upgrade for my Fender Champ, and Adrian helped me find a great Weber speaker to suit my playing style. The speaker shipped overnight and I was breaking it in no time. Later, my Champ stopped working during a recording session. Adrian quickly diagnosed the problem as a shorted power tube, and also did a complete tune up with a quick turn around. Adrian walked me through everything he did and what to expect moving forward as my Champ continues to age. The shop is nice and clean with plenty of amps, cabs, and pedals to try out. Pricing is more than reasonable. I look forward to bringing in my Bassman for a tune up soon :)
Such a cool spot. Adrian was very thorough and went above and beyond to get to the bottom of the issue with my preamp. If you are in North Austin and need amp or guitar repairs, I highly recommend! Also some great vintage amps for sale in his showroom! Thanks again!
Adrian runs an impeccable shop that specializes in repairs, modifications and custom designed amps and effects. He has one of the best equipped benches I have ever seen and he has the knowledge & experience to do incredible work.If you have guitar gear that you care about, bring it here to get serviced by a total pro!
Adrian at Tone IO really knows his craft! I took an 12-year-old amp to get a tune-up, and have a new speaker installed. Unfortunately the speaker I brought in had some issues, but since Tone IO is a licensed dealer of Weber speakers, there were several options of high-quality speakers in the store to choose from. Research Weber if you aren’t familiar with them, they receive very positive reviews in comparison to Celestion & Eminence, and I am very, very pleased with the new speaker. Adrian is very meticulous, and found some issues in my amp that Hot Rod Deluxes are known to have. He replaced several components, some of which would likely have damaged the circuit board if had gone unnoticed. He also fixed other long lingering issues I have had worked on by other techs in the past. So with new tubes (which I had biased for the first time), an upgraded speaker, and new parts my amp should be sounding better than ever for several more years. I felt Adrian is very respectful of his customers requests, and made my options very clear before working on my amp.Tone IO also has several amps and boutique pedals for sale in his shop, some great sounding gear that I’ve placed on my wish list! Overall, I had a great experience, got long lasting service for a good price, and enjoyed being able to try out high quality gear in a friendlier environment than Guitar Center. Adrian at Tone IO has definitely secured my business in the future!
Knowledgeable and friendly staff and the store has a great vibe. Definitely will be back
Adrian is a boss. Knowledgeable, friendly, responsive and all the things youd want from someone that you trust your gear with. I cant recommend him and the shop enough. He also has made an amazing 5E3 and Marshall JTM 45 type amp. An all around great experience and fantastic service.
Adrian is a very knowledgeable guitar/amp service tech who does great work at a good rate. He has a pretty sweet shop with lots of pedals, vintage amps and guitars to choose from. Highly recommend - Ill be taking my gear there again when needed.
Fantastic service, you should check this place out if you need repair or looking for some excellent pre loved equipment. Don’t buy new! save the planet and get better gear or your old stuff working again.
Adrian was awesome. Took my JCM 900 in for an issue and he fixed her up good. Very knowledgeable, great communication and transparency though the entire process. Couldnt be happier. Sending everyone his way.
Highly recommend Tone I/O. Adrian serviced an older solid state amp of mine and was very communicative and helpful along the way. Any future problematic amplifiers or related equipment in need of servicing will be brought back to his workbench - and without hesitation! I visited Tone I/O based off Google reviews and you should to!Edit: Ive had an additional amplifier serviced by Adrian - thorough review of the circuitry, necessary replacements/repairs, and a speaker installation. Adrian sourced the Teb Weber speakers I requested (he is an authorized dealer) and broke them in for me. Next amplifier in need of some tlc will be back in his hands.
There are expert luthiers who specialize in the restoration of antique and vintage instruments, and Adrian Goepferich is exactly the equivalent for vintage amplifiers and electronics. His work and his expertise is top on the line. I will always entrust all of my vintage gear to Adrian. Of course his expertise is equally qualified for modern amplification systems and circuits too, and, he builds custom amps as well.
Hey this guy is great... I brought him my dirty old blues junior with the reverb busted and cracking connections. He was so great, cleaned my connections, put in a new spring reverb, and cleaned my tubes and charged a super reasonable rate. Then when I picked it up a short few days later he sat around for 45min and plugged in a bunch of his pedals for me to check out, Ill be back...
Adrian is a master! Smart, thorough, fast and good prices. Did a great job for me expanding the capabilities of my Crate. Only place Ill trust to work on my rig.
Adrian worked on my 62 Ampeg Reverberocket (R-12-R). This is the first amp to ever appear with reverb and it showed, lots of issues. My particular amp was serviced twice while i lived in New York (including once by its designer Jes Oliver who ran a repair shop out of the south shore of Long Island before passing away) and once here in Austin and yet problems persisted. Adrian was able to figure out that the problem was simply a bad volume pot. Imagine that. The amp works and sounds as it should now. Adrian provided great service at a very reasonable price. Thanks!
Quality work great guy
Adrian was very helpful in getting my old amps back in order.
If you play vintage gear, Adrian is your guy. My Fender has never sounded better.
