Ive lived in the area for 5 years and have had Clown Dog do all sorts of small repairs. Theyve consistently been the quickest, most friendly, and honest shop Ive been to.A few months ago I had some small issue, maybe with the seat or a tire. I stopped in and they fixed it on the spot. I think they were about to close.I recently bought a mountain bike from them, which came with a year of service. Gave me a great price and let me ride two bikes around the block before buying.I managed to royally freak up the mountain bike within the first weekend (their notes say just bought and got wild on the trail). They really hooked me up, fixing the bike quick and gave me a more than fair price.If you hang around youll notice theyre more than a bike shop, theyre part of the community.

I was having a hard time with a few pieces on a new bike and putting it together so I brought it by Clown Dog. They put it together and showed me why it wasn’t cooperating/where it had been damaged in shipping (which is super helpful so I knew what the heck happened and didn’t think I was going crazy…) He gave it a once over and the whole process was so fast and they were so polite and welcoming. If I ever need anything else with my bike, I am 100% coming here

Great experience with the team. Scott worked on my bicycle and was super understanding with my lack of knowledge and failed attempt to repair my flat tire. Everyone was extremely courteous and helpful. I ended up breaking one of the reflectors prior to my arrival and after repair was complete Scott suggested I get flashing light reflectors for my safety. Please support small businesses like Clown Dog Bikes as they really know how to connect with their client’s needs and don’t up-sell you unnecessary repairs or add-ons. I can’t wait until my son arrives from NyC as we are heading here to purchase his bike.

I’ve worked with Clowndog for about 3-4 years now, and have been blown away by the service. John and the team are really great guys that are enjoyable to do business with, and consistently put the customer first before pure profit (e.g. recommending against unnecessary or frivolous upgrades). I’m moving out of Austin, but would highly highly recommend doing your business here, especially if you’re a student at UT due to the convenience.

Hands down one of the best bike shops in Austin. My girlfriend and I have gotten our bikes fixed here and they always do a tremendous job. They are true to the craft and really want to help out fellow bikers.

Shopping for a mountain bike these days is pretty disheartening as inventory everywhere is so low. However John was able to hook me up with an awesome Jamis Dragonslayer for a great price and I LOVE it! He was super friendly and helpful. It was my first time shopping at Clown Dog but Ill definitely be back.

After going to a few different shops over the course of going to school at UT, Im happy to have eventually been introduced to this little shop, right on the edge of campus. Everyone who has helped me is efficient, quick and very evidently knowledgeable about what they do. And not to mention, very patient and kind! Other shops Ive been to (i.e. Mellow Johnnys) are fussier and seemingly less-involved about concerns over my bike. Love this place, and will continue going here until my legs and my humble little bike quit!

I came to Austin for school, and the second week I was here, my bike was stolen. I searched up bike shops in the area and saw Clown Dog was the closest to me. When I came in and told them my situation, they were super understanding and had a fantastic used bike that was in my price range. Every time I take it in, the service is fantastic. Whether you’re looking for a cheap bike to commute with or a high quality racing bike, Clown Dog is the way to go!

Minorities and LGBTQ community BEWARE! Pretty sure all the reviews on here are fake and by the business owner themselves. Believe me when I say that this bike shop is run by two guys who have no respect and are discriminatory against minorities. It’s so concerning to know that a bike shop like this receives business by fellow Austin natives. As an avid biker, when visiting this shop, I had many questions to ask prior to making an informed decision about the bike I was looking to purchase. The guys were quite quick with their responses and quite dismissive as well. There were not transparent about their prices due what appeared to be prejudices made because of my skin color. Along came another guy who appeared to be masculine and lighter in complexion, drew their attention, despite there being two salesmen. Instead of informing you about the true prices of items and asking me what I was looking for in a bike, they both seemed more preoccupied and attentive to the other customer. My recommendation? Choose another place to shop in Austin, especially in this time of quarantine.

This is the best bike store in Austin! We have checked out quite a few bike stores and this guy always has what we need and is so helpful. One time we dropped by and the store actually wasn’t even open yet but the owner let me borrow the tool I needed to fix my bike and even showed me how to do it, for no charge! He always hooks it up and is so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend going here to buy a bike, buy parts, or get a repair.

I LOVE CLOWN DOG BIKES! They are so helpful and so knowledgeable. They are not trying to scam you like other bike repair shops that charge you $80 to fix your bike and may not be doing anything. They diagnose every issue and let you know all of your options! Quick turn around time (just avoid the beginning of the school year). They also have free bike pumps outside which I used often. Great staff! Would recommend to everyone, beginner cyclists and up!

Just visited this shop the other day, and read all the reviews before visiting. I can confirm that the shop employees or owners or whatever aren’t the nicest people in this city, especially for a Mom & Pop bicycle shop. I blatantly asked them why they were being so rude to their customers, and they explained that they were nervous and scared due to this quarantine and virus going around. We’re all scared. Not sure that a virus spreading is a good reason to be terrible to your customers. We are your business. There are so many other shops who take care of their customers and have the decency to treat humans with respect.

I had to get my tire changed. After I had it done, he noticed one of my brake wires was broken. I told him I couldnt do it right now, and he could tell it was because I didnt have enough money. He insisted that he give it to me for free because he wanted to make sure I was safe. The store also took very impressive COVID safety measures including plexiglass glass barriers, no-contact payment, and a massive bottle of hand sanitizer at the cash specifically for customers.

Best bike shop Ive ever been to! They very easily and competently fixed my problems (busted brakes and a flat tire), and even fixed a few others for free and replaced my front light (which had been stolen a few days prior). They were very considerate and friendly. And the total cost of the visit came out to half of what we were expecting! I highly recommend them.

Over the years Clown Dog Bikes has starved me the best. It doesn’t matter i fI need parts, a tune-up, or I’m building an entire bike from a frame. They are knowledgeable, friendly enough (Not fake yet unhelpful), genuine. I’ve, on multiple occasion been dissatisfied elsewhere and it dawns on me, “Just go to Clown Dog”, and I do and it’s way better.Now that it’s COVID-19 times, they are doing it safely with an outside service spot and plexi-glass and a payment system that takes google and apple forms of payment so no touching.Clown Dog Bikes, thanks for doing what you do.

It wasn’t until I graduated and moved away from Austin that I truly appreciated Clown Dog Bikes. They’re literally everything you could ask for when worrying about your bicycle or buying a new one. I brought my bike in several times as a student, and they never charged me ridiculous amounts and where extremely honest with their service. Their services are wonderfully affordable. Now that I live somewhere else and still use my bike to commute, I can’t even find a shop that will service my bike for less than $99. Luckily for you, if you’re reading this then you probably have the choice to make the best decision by bringing your bike to Clown Dog Bikes.

I visited them on a weekend because I had a punctured tire after a rainstorm. Even though the guys here were too busy, they understood that my bike is my only way to commute and they replaced the inner-tube in less than 15 minutes ! I didn’t buy my bike from here, but because I liked their service I referred one of my friends who was looking for a bike and he ended buying a bike from here. Oh yeah, and they checked my other tire for free, made sure that the front and rear wheels were in good condition and I asked for some chain grease and they provided that for free.

Just visited this shop the other day. Not sure if its COVID-19, but would definitely recommend visiting another shop and not thiss onee! The employee that work there are not inviting and I felt they were rude. Hard to believe many of the reviews on here....

I commute by bike daily and have been coming to Clown Dog for years. I have been to many bike shops all over the U.S., and Clown Dog is easily the best by a wide margin. Friendly, reasonable, competent, and almost too nice. Find a reason to buy a bike and get it serviced here. You wont be disappointed.

Bike mechanic was helpful and full of information. I walked in there one day intended to have something done on my bicycle and he actually talked me out of it because I would be wasting my time and money. This shop is all about honesty and I will come back for supplies just for the service I received from that moment.I have had multiple flats and they were quick to fix it for a reasonable price. They have all your commuting needs such as lights, locks, and chain grease. Great and smart guys.

Dude there...::I never got his name, is awesome. Very communicative. Patient with me. Answer every questions I need to know. Despite of alittle bit pricey, none of items there are cheaply factory assemble like dollar tree sells that will break into pieces less than a month. It is warrant included provided I believe. Local products. Excellent strong last long products for your excellent travel survival! Shop there!

I write very few business reviews, but these guys are so great that I have to write one down. Their pricing is exceptional, they are fast, and super friendly. Theyll never make you feel bad for not knowing much about your bike, but they are also clearly professionals. I go here for all my many repairs.I havent bought a bike from them, but Im sure thats a great experience too.

Clown Dog will take care of you and your bike. They offer great service and advice, and do not try to hard sell you stuff you do not need. They also have some great bikes for sale at very reasonable prices. Only downside is that they are busy.

I bought a bike from them in October. They offer free tune-ups for a year if you purchase a bike from them. The guys who run the shop are among the nicest people Ive ever met. I highly recommend for UT students looking for bikes!

Local bike shop, run by three guys who love bikes and are happy to take time to help you out with questions, repairs and choices.Best prices that Ive seen in town, and good quality bikes and spares. They have a year long free maintenance on any bike that they sell, and at the beginning of the school year all bikes have a good discount thanks to higher volumes.

These guys are amazing! Ive had a few minor issues with the chain rubbing against my derailleur, and theyve adjusted the cables for me at no charge when I thought Id have to have more serious work done. The most recent time they ran it through a whole battery of tests and didnt find anything major wrong, but they still didnt charge me a dime. They know their stuff, very friendly, and very honest. Cannot recommend a bike shop more highly.

Went to Clown Dog for my first bike in a while and what an experience! The guys there all knew their stock and each bike like the back of their hands. I told them the style bike I was looking for and they recommended me the perfect bike and were extremely helpful when I wanted to make changes ( swap out the saddle, raise the handlebars, etc)I would recommend this bike shop to anyone any day of the week! 6/5

A very tiny, but very good bike shop by the University of Texas Austin campus. They prices are the lowest, their service is the highest. My only complaint is that they told me that a repair job would be done sooner than it actually was. Nonetheless it was fixed up faster than other shops, and I would definitely go back there.

My husband found this place a few years back when my bicycle needed a tune up. Living in East Austin our bikes have been stolen more than once so we pick up used bikes at Goodwill and take them here for a tune up. The guys at Clown Dog Bikes are kind, efficient and honest. I will only go to this place for bike related repairs as long as their doors are open. :D PRO TIP: Prepare for the lack of parking. DO NOT PARK on the side or behind the shop or youll be towed.

I found Clown Dog by accident after leaving Bicycle Sport Shop with sticker shock. John was very helpful (and personable) and helped me find an affordable mountain bike. Being new in town, he shared stories about life in Austin, recommended areas where I might want to live and ride, and gave me the ins-and-outs of bike safety (as in theft) in Austin. They will be my first stop when Ill be in the market for a road bike in the near future.
