Ive never been to an Ace I didnt like and this store is no exception. It has a large variety of tools and home products plus a fully equipped paint counter (I recently got a paint color matched here and the match was spot on). The actual physical size of the store is on the small side considering how much stuff is packed into it, so the aisles are pretty narrow and may be difficult to maneuver for those with physical accessibility challenges. All in all it is a great store, I can always find what Im looking for and the employees are very helpful.
Busy hardware store. Parking can be challenging. Generally has what I want. Part of the Ace Hardware network.
Great place. Very helpful and friendly employees. If you have a question all you have to do is ask...
I frequent this store. Almost every weekend. The staff is always very friendly and ready to help, except sometimes theyre overwhelmed with the weekend crowd. The store has everything youd need for projects, but not a big selection and no big-box things like toilets or doors. Id be happier if they had tool rental. For a neighborhood hardware store - theyre perfect!
Nice place screens and window glass. Old style hardware. Excellent stock and not much difference in price over the two big names. Gotta love that.
Ask anyone in town and theyll recommend Shattuck as their go to hardware store. Everyone in the store is super friendly and will help get you what you need and explain how to use it.Although the store seems small, they have almost everything you could need that would be in a big box hardware store.Prices may be slightly higher, but they have coupons and its worth paying slightly more for the service and supporting a local hardware store.
Complete hardware store and reasonable prices. I usually find everything Im looking for and just go elsewhere for hard to find items.
I normally like Ace Hardware, but this particular one (Shattuck) has to be the most messy hardware store Ive ever seen. Its also quite a bit more expensive than other places. Despite the store seemingly overflowing with junk, I could not find a very basic electrical part, namely a cable strain relief. After explaining to the employee what it was, since he had never heard of it, he was no help as to where these could be. Eventually I found one in an unopened box at the top of a shelf. Even Home Depot has 15 different models of it. Its a shame I have to drive to the HD in Watertown for the slightest project. I guess Ill try True Value next...
Amazing service, they go extra and figure out how to make things work out perfectly!
Ive been here so many times and never knew there was a lumber/shop area downstairs. They cut my plywood purchase down so I could transport it safely on my bike.
I have made a few trips to Shattuck of recent and continue to notice and appreciate how polite, helpful and customer service oriented the staff are. It is a breath of fresh air after having less than satisfactory service from large chain stores. Shop small and local
Great store they seem to have everything you need and know where it is
What a cool store loved could of roamed around for a lot longer
Always great shopping here. Today was gas grill and the works. Great customer service.
Always helpful staff, and they have what I need. Parking is easy.
Since I moved to Arlington I have purchased many items and have spent a few dollars along the way. I have always felt the team has put the safety of customers and there employees first throughout COVID. They have curb side pick up if you don’t want to go in. Also I have had a few power tools and a snow blower delivered to my home. There website accurately displays inventory of most items or I have called to check on availability of items needed. Can’t beat the fact they know me and my two boys by name. Look forward to supporting this local business for years to come.
Love this place. They are so friendly and if they dont have something, they will either get it or find where you can get it
Great Hwd store w very helpful staff. Owner will special order if you need something not in stock.
Ive gone to Shattuck’s for decades. They have an excellent selection of hardware and this paired with the polite and helpful staff make it a resource I have used often. However, I was disturbed at what I found there today. The aisles of this store are thin and there were many patrons standing in line. It was impossible to maintain 6 feet distance as people were moving back and forth to the back of the store using the same aisle that all the people who are waiting in line for the register were standing. I stood in the line masked and awaiting my turn at the register. When I got the register, I was informed by the clerk that the number I was told to write down on the identifying the bolts I was purchasing would not give her the price as I was told by another clerk. She directed me to return to the back of the store to seek the price back down through all the people waiting for the register and other people. I was not pleased. Once I reached the back of the store, I abandoned the bolts I had picked out and exited the store as I would not risk my health again standing though that line once again. This old building does not allow for safe distancing between people. I won’t return to this store until a vaccine is available or the risk of infection has abated.
Its an amazing store! So much stuff under 1 roof. They always have what I need. Always helpful and friendly!!
This is a great hardware store....huge selection and friendly knowledgeable service!
This is a great hardware store. They sell a wide variety of things for home owners such as light bulbs, hoses, Teflon tape, spigot y-splitters and adjustable twist nozzle attachment for hoses. They also have a locksmith so you can get keys duplicated. The staff are very helpful and its seldom very busy. This is a great hardware store to get replacements for things that fail.
Very friendly and helpful staff, and theyre well-stocked. I came in for art hanging supplies and they were able to get me the right equipment in just a few minutes.
This has always been a great place - helpful and friendly staff, a lot of expertise to share. But when I went in today (4/27/20) what I saw was surprising and potentially deadly. Of about 10 employees, ONLY TWO were wearing masks. Yes, there was a shield at the counter but even if this were enough (it is not) then what about those wandering around the floor? They could and should require employees and customers to wear masks, just as other stores are doing. I will not shop here anymore, at least not until they change their policy to give customer safety a higher priority.
I am an only child of father who loved hardware, great granddaughter of a carpenter, granddaughter of a tool salesman. I am very much at home in a hardware store. This one provides great service, utilizing technology for the benefit of staff & customers, & good advice. An antique drawer knob I will use as a wall art piece & to hold a lightweight half of a window curtain back when needed. Specific size threaded screw on both ends needed. Done! I am so pleased.
Awsome friendly service, they even helped me load my purchases!
Amazing local hardware store. always helpful, no price gouging, if things are out of stock they help you find it, they help you solve problems youre having, I cant say enough good things about this place. also safe with great Covid procedures.
I bought my marvin from this place..they originally said 20 but it was actually 35.00 so I split it with my neighbor since we both have kids.i also bought a rake for 16.99 pretty expensive. But I got what I needed and they had a lot of other things. I would definitely recommend this store. The staff work together to get things done.
Great small full service hardware store. It’s an institution in our town!
Nearly always able to find what I need with helpful, friendly and masked staff.
A friendly, helpful and handy hardware store.
They have all of the handyman/woman items that you could possibly need! The staff is knowledgable as well!
Helpful staff and A well-stocked hardware store.
Its a perfectly decent hardware store. Im glad my town has a nice hardware store. Usually has what I need so I usually dont have to travel to home Depot.
Parking is slim and the isles are tight, but an efficiently run hardware store. I called ahead about a hard to find part for my chainsaw and they remembered me when I showed up to purchase it. I think their service is above and beyond.. will def be back.
Love having this store near me. If they dont have it you dont need it.
Helpful staff, for selection... Parking can be right when is busy.
Still a drive from the east end of town but glad they are there for quick needs. Wish their Sat hours were to 1 hour longer.
Excellent neighborhood hardware store. Not the most organized in the world, but surprisingly wide selection, and helpful staff who can help you find the item thats escaping you. Housewares (I get canning supplies there), cleaning supplies, paint, tools, electrical and plumbing and downspouts and small lumber and locks and a bit of phone and Ethernet..., and of course hardware from fasteners to springs to handles. The main downside is that its hard to leave without spending more than I expected...Definitely worth shopping Shattuck first, then hitting the big box store for the anything they cant provide. And I like supporting a local business!
I was impressed with this place. I just bought a new house and have an intermediate level of knowledge on lawn care/landscaping. Ian and Kyle showed me what I needed and explained the different options based on their personal experience with the products which was great. They delivered it to me like an hour later and showed me how to use everything. Definitely recommended, definitely returning.
Their staff is super helpful.
Extremely helpful, friendly people. Will order anything they dont have in stock.
The older guys really know their stuff! Almost always find what Im looking for. Surprised how well stocked they are for such a fairly small store.
Great hardware store. People are very friendly and helpful. A little more expensive than places like Home Depot, but much better experience. Also, is dog-friendly!
Great local hardware store that almost always has what you need. More importantly, there’s always someone around to help you locate items or offer advice. While not always the cheapest option, their prices are reasonable. Especially with sales, coupons and, like I already mentioned, you get quality face-to-face service. If you ask me, a good hardware store is an important part of a healthy community and Shattuck’s plays the part perfectly!
Great hardware store! how do they pack so much into such a small place? Better selection than home depot.
The best local hardware store!! If you want to go to place where everyone you ask is super helpful and actually knows what they are talking about go to Shattucks. Perfect size not too big but, they honestly have everything!! Super nice to kids too always give my little helpers balloons when they are tagging along with dad!!
Very helpful
For former customers of Masses hardware in in Cambridge, this the best alternative. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. They have what you need to maintain your old house. A short drive up Mass Ave, out the Minuteman bike path, or on the 77 bus line.
Great hardware store. Everyone is very helpful.
Good local hardware store, has a lot of gardening supplies too.
I keep coming back to this place over and over, even though Ive moved further out, and Ive never been disappointed. #1 reason is they stock so many different pieces of individual hardware, its unbelievable. Need a couple of metric, socket head bolts in stainless steel? 99% chance they have it, at a reasonable price. Tap splices? Fuses? Latches? All kinds of weird brackets and mounts? Yes, yes, yes! Its like a local version of McMaster Carr! They also have Benjamin Moore paint, can rescreen doors and windows, and can even do minor labor for you.#2 reason - just ask a question. Theres always someone around, they always know where to find things, and can always offer advice. Try getting that at one of the big box stores, if you can even find someone to ask.
As others have said its bigger than it looks with a surprisingly wide stock of items thats up-to date (some hardware stores feel like museums) including Yeti coolers, Meyers soap and Oxo kitchen items.Ive never had trouble finding staff and they always know the answer.
Everyone who works here is helpful, friendly, and the store itself has a family business feel to it. I go here for nearly everything I need, rather than dealing with a big box store.
The two girls behind the counter were amazing!
Always helpful staff. Not always the widest selection, but great service and usually all I need for small jobs and repairs.
Helpful, friendly staff. They can help find anything.
This hardware store should get an award or something. I have never been to a hardware store with such helpful and knowledgeable staff. Theyre quick too. If youre in need of screws and bolts, this is the place to go.
Good store, but why are they closed on Easter? No one is closed on Easter anymore, and it’s not clear in their website. Operating like a business from the 1900s is going to lose you customers.
Awesome people. Just bought a grill from them. They don’t usually deliver on sundays but they had it assembled and delivered within the hour! Highly recommended.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Prices are competitive. This is my favorite hardware store. Of course, given its size, places like Home Depot or Lowes may have more variety of things.
This is a great local hardware store. It is packed with stuff so even though it looks small, it really has a lot of product. Very very helpful staff and almost always have exactly what I need. Never a line to check out either!
Great hardware store. Friendly people, and they have everything.
Quick and friendly service
Shattuck hardware is a great neighborhood store that does a great job serving its customers and the community. Come on in and ask for help. They are ready.
Knowledgeable helpful people work in this charming Ace hardware. Besides hardware stuff, lots of home related things. Very dog friendly,!
Love this store since it was on Mass. Ave. with the worn out floors! Not only do they have what you need or will get what you need, they will fix just about anything. I have 40 year old storm windows that needed the frame fixed, also my cuckoo clock!! Just great, knowledgeable people.
In and out. Staff is super accommodating and they always have all my gardening and random one off needs for around the house. Parking is a bit tough though.
Incredibly helpful and friendly. Had a really tough problem with a German gas grill that needed to be adapted to US gas bottles. They had the right advice and the right parts. Awesome!
The day I needed to visit I needed help with something, the staff of this hardware store were very helpful to me and for this reason I was very thankful.
This is the best hardware store I have ever been to. They have everything thing you could ever need and thensome. Helpful and courteous staff.
It is our local Hardware shop. Good serbice
Good service if you can find someone to help
Incredible customer service and reasonable prices including for pick up and delivery of things like lawnmowers or snowblowers. The people who work here are knowledgeable and fair. (call out to John) They picked up a snowblower within an hour of calling, fixed it and redelivered the day after! They sharpen lawnmower blades and chainsaw chains so well I have stopped doing it myself. They have always given me honest advice about tools and consequently I always buy here. It’s a good solid store- all too rare these days and I’m so glad I stumbled across it.
We much prefer coming here than to big box stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. The staff here is much friendlier, much more knowledgeable. Most importantly they are more willing to spend time to not only answer your questions but also to ask you questions to make sure they understand your needs, and give advice on how to do your projects. So far weve been very happy with the service.
Shattucks forever! Exemplary customer service -- they took a return of an item my 87 year old mother bought 2 years ago and never used. They dont even carry it anymore and they still took it back. I was thrilled to use the store credit for other items she needed. I’ve also special ordered items from here, like a grain shovel with a metal pan that my husband uses for snow since he snaps the plastic ones….They happily found a supplier and ordered it for me.
I can always find the right bolt here. Open on Sundays
I love shopping here- so much better then the big box stores! Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable!
A large hardware store with a good selection of products.
Good selection, friendly service
Good neighborhood hardware store. Have a good selection and a helpful staff.
This hardware store epitomizes what small town, LOCAl businesses should all be: great selection and diversity of products and staffed by friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful staff. And if they dont have what you are looking for or cant help you, theyll direct you to a source that can fill the bill. I love this store! Arlington is lucky to have it.
Always a pleasurable experience.
A great place when you need something fast.
Been going there for 30 years will not go anywhere else the staff are wonderful
Great store but did not have the item i wanted
Terrific local hardware store. When they get busy, it can be hard to get help, though.
Its an Ace Hardware store of the old fashioned style. Not one of these big warehouses like Home depot. Instead its full of all kinds of things that you need and when you ask for help you really get help. Someone comes and takes you to what youre looking for and answers your questions. If they dont know the answer to a question they wont just blow you off or make something up. Instead they seek an authority who knows more about what youre looking for. They offer genuine friendly customer service, something that seems to be rare these days. The only drawback I can think of is that their parking area is a bit sparse and sometimes it can be a challenge to find a space.
Just so much easier than a big box store, helpful staff
I needed to fix an old pocket door lock. I called and talked to a guy named Luke who told me to bring in the hardware and he would see what he could do. Well this guy went above and beyond for me. He cleaned out the old hardware and them proceeded to find / custom make me a key that would work for it. Seriously this is what a local hardware store should be like. Even though its out of the way for me, I will probably think of coming here first. Really happy to give this store my business.
Extremely well-stocked hardware store; friendly and helpful staff
Great place for everyday items and for the things you cant find any where else
Bought an 18 by 24 in sheet of acrylic here for my project. Staffed by many AHS students so you have some awesome service. Helpful people who directed me to the woodshop downstairs and the correct aisles. Friendly toward engineering students at AHS.
An extensive selection of materials and tools, with a knowledgeable staff who are eager to help.
Smaller hardware store look and feel but u can get everything you need i work in construction and have always been able to find everything big box stores have!
Ive been coming here for decades. Fun to browse the older hardware bins.
They are a great hardware store. They have everything you need and if they dont theyll get it for you.
A Most Excellent hardware store. Either wander or ask for help. Just remember, all who wander are not lost.
Always have exactly what I need, and then some. Great sale on Yeti tumblers right now.
A local gem. A hardware store that has everything - somewhere. If you cant find it, ask and they will take you to it. Just a little more expensive than Home Depot, but they provide good service to help you make a decision and how to install it.
