This Philz closes absurdingly early everyday (some days at 1pm) and its very hard to tell the correct hour from online search. Wasting too many good mens time and excitement. While sitting outside Ive seen too many customers coming after 1pm to realize it closes at 1pm on some days. Worse, the hours are not consistent (if you are going to close at 1pm, do it every weekday! Else try to make your hours correct for Google search!)Pix: Their temp hours vs. hours on Google. Their perm hours are not much better. Btw Philz Ballston, if you are gonna have crazy temp hours, try to give an explanation (like your are short-staffed or sth)This kind of business hours and practice is an absolute joke.
They are slacking compared to every other Philz I have been to including those in California . They poured room temperature coffee from a container of stored coffee ( I could get the same thing at Starbucks) . So for an iced mint mojito which is normally hit at the bottom and cold at the top it was all cold from the ice on top and looks as if it was just shook up, this is the 2nd time I have got the same product from this location. Pretty disappointed if the quality is going down to chase profits.
Unique specialty coffee with a wide variety to choose from (light to dark). Each cup is made to order (pour over) so it will take a moment for your coffee to be ready but it will be worth it. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable if youre new to the brand and want suggestions about which coffee will best suit you but the descriptions on the menu are great too. I like using the app to order ahead. Its really easy and provides you with updates on your order status. Great neighborhood coffee shop.
Trying to understand what the hype is about. Ordered an iced coffee and I got a cup of coffee with a few cubes in it. Was expecting something decent given it was $5. Coffee was bitter. Def would not go back here.
Good coffee, friendly staff, the only downside is its usually crowded but they are quick and get you your order as soon as possible.
Love this place a lot - nice coffee and convenient location
Glad to see my favorite coffee from SF spreading to other parts of the US.
They put mint leaves n stem in the green 🍏 tea 🍵! so good
So tasty! Always hot, full of flavor, and inexpensive.
Staff was very friendly and there was a very interesting selection of drinks! I highly recommend the mint coffee!
Perfectly consistent with all the other Philz locations in the DMV and in the West Coast! If youve never been to Philz, its good to know that they specialize in pour-over coffee. But its unlike other pour-overs you may have tried. Each drink is individually made to order, with lots of options for coffee blends, dairy (or dairy free) and sweeteners. A barista runs you through an intro of how the coffee process works, helps you choose a blend from their 15+ options, how much creamer and sweetness youd like, and whether youd like hot or iced. The iced options can be chosen from any blend. Theyre specifically brewed in such a way that doesnt taste watered down. Once brewed, the barista always asks for you to check your drink and see if it fits your preferences. You can always adjust your drink no matter what so you will always leave satisfied. There are no espresso drinks, however I highly recommend trying these drinks at least once since theyre unusually good! The baristas will usually do their best to make something that will taste similar to an espresso with the same amount of caffeine (Philz blends actually contain a pretty high amount of caffeine, especially the light blends). If youre feeling something different, they also have some tea options and hot chocolate. For food, they usually have some toast options, Philz bagels (really good), sandwiches, pastries, parfaits, baklava, and a few more Im missing. This location also has lots and lots of plugs and room to sit, from cozy couches to stools next to the window. Its also a very visually appealing location.
Addictive. Had to limit myself to one a pay.
Really great coffee and thoughtful staff. Tried a breakfast burrito in recommendation, it was fantastic
Great coffee and fast service!
Worker had a bad attitude and the drinks were super watery wouldnt recommend
My friend brought me to this shop this past weekend and Im happy she did. I ordered the yerba mate, which is something Ive always wanted to try. I loved how helpful the staff was when I was ordering. The barista gave recommendations and was very willing to modify the drink until I was satisfied. The space is also nicely set up and just a nice area to sit and chat with friends. I would definitely come back first chance I get.
Expensive but very much worth it! I come here a couple times a month for a truly great cup of coffee. My go-to coffee blend is the Tesora. The Mint Mojito is a special treat.
Confusing sequence of ordering coffee and walking to another tiny low counter to pay where the usability of the cash pad has much more to be desired. Don’t expect porcelain or stoneware mugs even if you are having the coffee in the cafe. What a wasteful and environmentally unfriendly experience!!!!The coffee is ordinary, not comparable to what organic fair trade light roasts that I order online freshly ground.
I have been addicted to this place basically since they opened. The different flavors you can get are unique but subtle so the great coffee always shines through. App makes it super easy to customize your drinks (I always sub in oatmilk to dial down the creaminess a bit). Highly recommended!
First time trying Philz Coffee and I have to say it was pretty good. The price is decent. Not to expensive. The service received was good. The time it took was a little long but not bad.Got to at least try it once for yourself and decide if it is worth it. I think it is. 🤓
Great service! I made a mistake on the time to pick my order and they were gladly happy to fix it with no problem! Definitely will be coming back for the mint mojito.
Visited TX, Ga with my sister and her family. Took them to Philz Coffee for breakfast, and they loved it! Ill be back next visit, in a few months.
Quickly became my new favorite coffee place. I meet a friend here weekly in the mornings at sit outside. If you’re into exploring flavors, Philz makes it easy and inviting. We now use their Tesora coffee beans at our office since they sell it in bulk! This location has a good amount of table space both inside and outside. Staff are friendly and clearly knowledgeable as well. They have a few unique gluten free pastry items as well.
I had the Philthered Soul coffee. Hands down the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. Not acidic. Smooth and flavorful. It’s a bit pricey ($3.6 for a small but bigger than a Starbucks small) but worth it for the flavor.Plenty of seating inside and outside too.
Great coffee. Bright atmosphere. Helpful staff. I recommend the Dancing Water. Its a lighter blend. I have not tried the baked good, but they look yummy.
Great coffee, great service, the staff is very lovely. And I loved it the Philharmonic coffee!! I strongly recommend this place if you are like me, a coffee lover. ☕❤
Great coffee. Pricey but if you take your own mug, theyll charge you only for a small, around $3.50. lots of delicious options
I give it 4 stars the coffee is customized in front of you and there are so many types to choose from. love and care goes into making your daily Joe, in fact I perfer this one over Starbucks. pricey but worth it.
This place is actually awesome. A bit different from your standard Starbucks clone which generates extra margins off of complex espresso based drinks. This place is all about the coffee (and tea) and the diverse range of flavors that can come from bean selection and careful brewing. For introverts, the app is a life saver and will help cut through the dizzying array of customization options and let you try different combinations without having to rehearse the order.
Best coffee ever
Easily my favorite coffee shop. The coffee is amazing, the service is always great, and the atmosphere is very warm and friendly. I wish I lived in Arlington so I could come here more often.
Great coffee
Great drip coffee. I also get the beans to make at home.
Great coffee (pour-over style) and awesome outdoor seating. The local pastries are quite tasty as well. Line seems to move pretty quick for being pour-over only. My favorite drink is the Philtered Soul.
Its not just another coffee shop, its a West Coast pour-over destination. Great friendly staff, too.Just wish they could text when the order is ready on a busy day, waiting on Sunday can be brutal inside.
The iced mint mojito is the best cold coffee drink I’ve ever had. It takes a while to make but you’ll realize it was worth it after one sip. I’ve only been to this location once so far, but the employees were really sweet.
Everything great every time. As a Californian this makes me so happy. A great cup of coffee with a smile no matter which location. I’m a life long fan.
Stopped for mid afternoon coffee and croissant. Scattering of laptops and chatters but a seat became available during the short time it took to warm up the croissant and prepare my coffee. Free WiFi though I didnt ask for the password. Lots more available seating, especially for those willing to share the bigger tables. Good location between Ballston Quarter and Metro even from the restored pedestrian bridge.
Absolutely love this place. Friendly staff and great coffee!
I like the coffee here and the pricing is pretty fair. There is something about the shops style that I don;t really like, but it doesnt bother me enough to not come. Staff is helpful and friendly.
Good coffee, but this location doesnt have the variety of baked goods and food options that Ive seen at other locations.
This is the first Philz location I haven’t liked. My regular mint mojito didn’t taste as good. Tried it twice and both times something was not right.
Good coffee; a bit pricey, if you compare it to Starbucks. Also, refills cost the same as the first one, unlike Starbucks where refills are priced at 10% of the first cup. Also, I got sore throat both times I had coffee here - not sure its related, but definitely worried me. They should check their heavy cream.
Elizabeth is an exceptional employee, she makes my coffee perfectly everytime
Best coffee Ive EVER had.
Theyve got some adrenochrome-level coffee. Amazing. Had me seeing stars it was so strong.
So happy Philz is on the east coast. Dont have to fly back to Redwood City anymore. Just wish there was one in NYC
Great coffee, food and service. Very personalized coffee selections. Really enjoyed the experience.
All their coffee tastes great. Much better than anywhere in that area. One of the best decaf, Sumatra.
Best, most worth it gourmet coffee place.
Wonderful costumer service!!Fan and the rest of the team are awesome.Philtered soul it is my favorite.
They have very helpful stuff and team. and I like thier dancing waater lighter blend its a very good coffee ... but I gave them one star because I noticed a lot insects all over sandwich and bakery area ( I hope that I get better experience for the next time).
Prices are a bit steep, but staff are so friendly and the choices are all delicious. Quickly becoming part of my afternoon coffee run routine.
Reasonable brewed coffee joint that seems to take itself a bit too seriously. Friendly staff, reasonably fast service.
Good place, reasonable prices, good and cheerful service. So 4 stars will work.
Great little coffee shop with wifi and work stations available. Good solid cup of coffee with a decent selection of gluten free baked goods. Very friendly staff.
Im a big fan of the mint mojito iced coffee, though everything Ive had is well made and delicious.
Personable customer service. The baristas are skillful and attentive. Really enjoy the iced ecstatic and the hot ether, ambrosia, and tesora.
Every coffee on the menu that I have tried so far has been delicious!
Grateful to have this right around the block, Im a regular. Must have: the mint Mojito. Staff is extremely friendly as well.
It’s setup so weird. It doesn’t make sense where you order and pay and order snacks. Coffees good tho.
Great Yerba Maté tea. Busy at times but nice place to meet up at. Goat cheese quiche was good.
I fell in love with this place when I was in LA for school and have been waiting for this location to open for months. I was really impressed with just how friendly and helpful every person Ive interacted with here has been (shout-out to my new friend Yun), and the coffee is just as good as ever. If youre tired of the same coffee options in Ballston, give this one a try!
A little hard to locate when you are driving, but the coffe is worth it. Currently, the are offering the ginger snap flavor, which has become my favorite.
Lots of unique blends of coffees and tea. Each cup is brew to order.
Giving three stars because the staff here are INCREDIBLY NICE and the store is beautiful. My qualms may have more to do with the Philz chain itself than with this actual location. I found it difficult to order here, given the strange structure of the menu (they basically just have a bunch of different coffees listed). They do not really offer espresso-based drinks here either, although they make something called a Tesora which is similar to a latte. Tried it with the Tesora coffee and wasnt really impressed.
Very glad to have Ballstons coffee game increase because of Philz! Nice atmosphere and very friendly employees.
Excellent drip coffee and coffee drinks - Note that they do not have lattes. For espresso drinks, head over to Republik.
Their coffee is some of the best Ive ever had and the staff were welcoming and patient.
$5.25 for a coffee is pretty steep even for this location. The every cup is hand poured schtick is a cool gimmick, but waiting 10 minutes on a cup of joe isnt very appealing to me. I took the Teraso option and its about as good as the Flavia machine at the office.
Great chai. Only problem was a lack of seating.
Cool new and very different coffee place. Worth a try!
I am a big fan of Philz and their mint mojito but this location barista did not how to make mint mojito. The drink was watery, not creamy and the cream was clumped, but the barista justified it as due to ice. BS!
One of the best tasting coffees I’ve ever had!
Great coffee....a lot of options for coffee flavor profiles.
Love Philz. Great coffee and friendly staff
Updated... mgr responded and addressed the staff with our concerns. Were giving them another shot because the coffee is great still.
Pour over coffee (both hot and iced), and a few food options. A great addition to the Ballston neighborhood.
Super nice staff and mint mojito. So glad to see these opening on the east coast!
Nice selection of coffee with different flavors.
Solid outpost of the Bay Area coffee slingers. Highly recommend the iced coffees, even if you don’t usually find iced coffee interesting.
Awful service. I am blown away they have more than four stars
A unique coffee experience!
Awesome coffee, great addition to the Ballston neighborhood!
Good coffee combined with friendly staff.
Move over Starbucks.. My new obsession “Turkish Straight-Up”.
Delicious coffee and charming decor.
Its good cafe its fresh good service
This was the best coffe i ever had
The coffee is awesome.
Great service and brews!
