Stumbled upon this place while staying in a nearby hotel on a recent trip to DC and I can honestly say I miss it already. The coffee is SO good. You can tell they care a lot about the flavor and quality of their coffee. The pastries are really good as well and everything is very reasonably priced. The vibe is very nice and we felt very safe with staff and other customers all respectfully following Covid protocols. We will definitely make regular visits to this place every time we are staying in or around DC.

I love this place! They make incredible specialty coffees and drinks that are so unique and amazing each time. Also a really cool and unique atmosphere for a cafe.

The lavender matcha is a killer. The almond croissant is also really good. Loved the friendly stuff, they are very helpful and make visitors like home.

I visited Commonwealth Joe on April 8th, 2021, and it is just such a nice cafe! Their drinks are delicious and the staff was very kind and helpful. I needed some paper to write notes on and I first asked for a paper bag since I figured that would be the best I could find. However, when I told the guy that I needed it to take notes, he went out of his way to get me paper from their printer. Awesome experience, great drinks, and lovely ambience!

In my opinion, this is the best cafe in Arlington and DC cuz u can get a lot coffee beans and tasty, the service really good they always smile specially the man has long gold hier in casher 👍🏼 I respect this place

Made this my morning ride destination and they didn’t disappoint. Might not need to go into DC for my pour over fix anymore. The Blue Ridge Bluff is like that! Super delicious dark roast (could see my reflection in it) blew my mind. Also had their seasonal iced cookie crumble latte which was not too sweet. Dope to see an all female crew behind the bar doing their thing. I ordered a pour over on a steady morning and could still see (and later on taste) the time and care taken to make it great. Thanks for a great first taste experience!

I come to get my coffee ever morning from here. Friendly people and great Customer service. Lately the quality of the coffee isn’t good. They used to make nice late.

Good coffee which you can get whole bean or ground. They have attention to detail to ask specific questions regarding how you brew your coffee at home when doing so. Atmosphere is nice to sit and work or read. A bit pricey.

What an amazing place to have coffee at. During our stay we always go for it. They have many different options and special drinks. I tried two of them and both were amazing. I would definitely recommend it, and I can’t wait to come back again in my next trip.

Kind, attentive service and delicious drinks with plenty of variety! Prices fair for the quality. Only downside is the small size of the place and limited seating.

At home barista and the Golden Horseshoe Espresso blend is an excellent roast the dark chocolate and fruity notes result in a smooth flavor profile with lots of crema. Attached photo of an extraction with 18 grams in and 36 grams out in 25 seconds. I highly recommend the Golden Horseshoe espresso blend!

The coffee and the breakfast pastries are great, but unfortunately the service the last two times (especially today), has been horrible. The people working there are nice, but they are way too busy to handle the amount of people in there. More help is needed. I went in today to get a regular drip coffee and a muffin....walked out 20 minutes later with the wrong size slightly warm drip coffee (paid for a medium and got a small), and with an almond croisant. For a Monday morning, I would hope they would have re-stocked their pastries (out of muffins and close to running out of mostly everything). I wasnt going to go and complain back in line to get the right size coffee after waiting 20 minutes.

I ordered a dirty chai latte. Very yum! Good music & free WiFi make for a pleasant work spot. Several outdoor tables too.

One of the many Starbucks competition. Nice decor and atmosphere. I had the chai late and it was delicious. Not giving up Starbucks, but Joe is my second favorite coffee hangout.

Beautiful place, great environment, tons of people working remotely. Baristas over texturized the milk and gave me a cappuccino instead of a latte and the espresso shot was watery, but the milk was sweet.

They can take my money anyway. I love this coffee shop. If youre a coldbrew or a Cortado kind of person they have the caffeine kick for you . They have (pricey) some to go breakfast options in the morning . I Reccomend the strawberry rhubarb overnight oats -keeps you full for more than half the day

I come here every few weeks and enjoy it. My go-to is an oat milk mocha. I recently tried one of the croissants and a chocolate chip brownie; both were delicious. The staff is friendly and quick.My only complaint - as of mid-May 2021, they are still not allowing customers to bring in reusable mugs due to pandemic reasons. The science has shown that surface transmission of the coronavirus is really not a threat. Let’s follow the science, get back to being environmentally friendly, and let customers bring in reusable mugs again.

The coffee is amazing. The ambience is awesome. Good for working. Parking is difficult to find.

Cozy, nice cafe with good drinks, albeit pricey.I havent tried their pastries, so I cant speak to those, but the layout is very open with plenty of natural light.They also have a nice selection of seasonal fall/winter drinks.It does get crowded, and isnt a large space so it can be difficult to find a place to sit.

Very good coffee and friendly staff. The spiced cascara fizz is very tasty with notes of cinnamon cardamom and clove. The cappuccino is also very well made and tasty. Finally the got chocolate had good quality chocolate and not too sweet making sir that chocolate not sugar is the highlight of the experience. Definitely will be coming back again

Great cup of coffee in Arlington. One of the first good cups on this side of the river. Vibe is perfect and location provides ample parking options. The Baristas were super friendly and pretty knowledgeable. As far as the roast goes... I was surprised to not hear more from the guy taking the order... seemed like he didn’t know a lot about where the roast came from... it the barista making the pour over did a fantastic job. Worth a stop even if it’s not on your planned route. Look forward to another visit when I’m back in town.

I really like this place. And I’d rather get coffee here than a national chain. I’m just disappointed in their app ordering system. Once, I ordered a croissant with my coffee only to arrive and they were out of croissants and the poor barista couldn’t do a refund to my card. Another time I ordered through their app and arrived 12 minutes later and they hadn’t even started my order. I had to wait 10 minutes longer to receive my order and that made me late for an appointment. But the coffee is good and the croissants are great. They just need to work a little harder with their app ordering.

Used to love coming to this place. My last 5 recent visits were disappointing. Coffee was burnt and bitter.

I ordered a large iced vanilla latte, they called my name and someone had walked off with my coffee, they decided to replace it with a medium iced latte. Coffee tasted burnt, if your visiting the area, I would suggest finding better coffee.

This is just a laid back spot to have a solid cup of coffee.

I received a box of their cold brew as a birthday gift. It arrived well packaged and just needed to be thawed. The cold brew itself was smooth and delicious. I’ve tried to straight and mixed with horchata, and I enjoyed both. My only complaint is that every time I see the roaster’s name I get the Cotton-Eyed Joe song stuck in my head.

This place has a light, airy, calming feel—just like a modern coffee shop should.The line was a little long, so I was surprised when the cashier was super patient and kind when helping me decide what to get as a first-timer. Usually go to their vending machine, came in for a refund as the machine didnt work. Manager provided me with a comp. More variety and new flavours of kombucha to my surprise.

The ambiance is just amazing with great coffee, what more can you ask for:) My wifes coffee tasted a bit different than last time, they made a new one, and they kept on checking on the quality. Perfect service.

I dont know where they get their croissants or if they make them here, but they are really good! Try all of their nitro! Their coffee is smooth. Its great to see a place with great coffee and great nitro coffee. The staff is kind too. I will be coming back here again.

We live nearby & really like stopping by for a Nitro coffee & something different than Starbucks.

I dont know why I have waited so long to review this place. It is my favorite spot and I am here all the time. Quality, locally roasted Virginia coffee. The espressos will cause you to lament all the time you ever wasted at a StarBucks. My photo is of the maple cappuccino, which is a seasonal specialty, and as delicious as it sounds. The staff are amazingly friendly, through and through (shout out to Daniel, Marvin, and Jacquelyn). They also feature delicious pastries from Junction Bakery down the road (another place well worth your time). CWJ also has a fantastic freebie after every ten purchases, as if you werent getting enough out of these drinks. The decor is stylish. I am out of words, go get some coffee.

Best late I ever had

My favorite coffee shop in the area. I love coming here for great fresh brewed coffee. I’ve had iced coffee, cold brew, lattes, pour overs, and chai tea lattes and all have been excellent. Quick and friendly service. Walking distance from the Pentagon city metro. High recommend.

This used to be my neighborhood coffee shop before I moved. I often returned during the weekends however for the great people watching an amazing coffee. While I wish they did have a light roast drip their medium roasts have a few different flavorful options. Their mocha is to die for. I highly recommend to stop it and try out their Brew!

I enjoyed my visit. The baristas take strategic time and effort to present you with a well crafted and presented beverage. The pasteries are a highlight with a modest but delectable selection. Sadly, I cant speak to their signature roasts as I opted for a mocha which was as good as any you would expect. Seating is limited but varied with a small study room with a table for four, a window bar, and seating for about 10 on the floor with a French Cafe half booth and table seating.

Great coffee, clean, and protocols in place. Highly recommend if looking for something closer to European/non-Starbucks.

Amazing coffee drinks and awesome customer service! This was my first time here and I was very impressed. The crew was very professional and kind. I ordered a cappuccino and a bag of beans and the cappuccino came out fantastic! Its easily one of the best Ive ever had. The total cost of beans and coffee was less than the cost of beans alone in other coffee shops! Im only in DC for a couple of weeks and its 20-25 minutes away from where Im staying but its worth the drive!

Very good coffee, done right the first time with no modifications. Medium 16 oz latte has 4 shots of espresso, not mad at that!

As a resident of The Bartlett apartment complex, with award winning amenity spaces, I have to wholeheartedly endorse Commonwealth Joes, hereafter referred to as CWJ. The shop as a whole manages to take on a very natural and unforced hipster vibe, with eclectic coffee offerings, staff, and clientele. These guys take coffee quality seriously and even have their own roasting facility in the DC area. Try one of their on tap cold brews or seasonal beverages for a treat. The barista with the huge beard is pretty cool.

Possibly the best place for a good cold brew. They have a variety of nitro on tap.

This by far the best coffee shop Ive found East of the Rockies. The space is open and full of light, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the coffee is delicious. In particular I must recommend the cold brew. For those of you who dont know, the extraction of coffee in cold water tends to amplify the more fruity and sweeter natural flavors in the coffee beans and the cold brew on tap here is a wonderful example of this. The fact that it is on nitro means you will get a rich viscosity along with your delicious flavor. Top all this off with locally made pastries and snack packs and you have a destination I will be heading to any time Im in DC.

I live 45 minutes from this place and I drive there every Monday to fill up my growler with Monticello Sunrise nitro cold brew. And on Mondays its $3 instead of the regular $4.50 or something, for a cup. Cant recommend CWJ highly enough. Excellent, professional service. Top notch cold brew. Best in class.

The waiters and waitresses were even very accommodating and nice to the customers. Eventually, this shop was very good to study, chill, and relax.

Great coffee and comparing prices to the national coffee place at the next corner, this coffee is much better, brewed with more care and attention to how its brewed and how its presented.

Have been visiting here since its first opening day. One of the best places to get best of the best coffee. The quality of the coffee is magnificent and the many coffee lovers can tell by the first cup. I had a friend who said his cup was one of the best coffee he ever had and this is from a guy who travel many countries.The place is spacious, clean friendly staff. I often visit the place on Sunday and it is always busy. Love how people visit here not only for a cup of coffee but to get inspiration for the new work or personal projects with free WiFi. Sit by the window sipping favorite cup of coffee and watching people pass-by. In the summer when they turn air-con on, if you plan to sit here for a while, might want to bring a cardigan as it can get really cold and I’m not kidding.Deduct one star for I often having to end up stir the cup myself for Ice Mocha. Moreover, for not asking if the customer prefer milk or dark hot chocolate and got disappointing later when end up receiving unexpected taste. For the record, milk & dark chocolate hot drink taste differently and it is matter.

Husband ordered a ice mocha and they gave him a hot mocha. When he reported what he asked for they made him feel like he was wrong, gave the wrong drink away to some other customer who didn’t have to pay for it, waited on another person and gave them their coffee after my husband though he was standing their waiting, and never once apologized. Hopefully one off. In this welcoming environment towards POC probably not. My husband is uber easy -going so for him to be upset is pretty significant. Disappointing because we live here at Bartlett. But I’ll take the extra steps to Starbucks. Thanks. Because when it’s all said and done my money still counts.

Im a coffee drinker and this was my first visit. The establisment is clean, the staff was fun, polite and helpful, and the coffee (Monticello) was tasteful.

Their cappuccino is one of the best. I dont know how they do it but the blend between the milk and coffee is almost perfect. Unlike starbucks where their cappuccino only has foam on the top these cappuccinos have foam all through and a little bit of tich foam on top.
