The Japanese Auto Care team is extremely reliable, fairly priced and I never feel taken advantage of. The service is quick and professional, and they always seem to have an opening for me. I recommend this place to all my friends and continue to use them despite moving across Arlington.
Took my car to have a starting issue diagnosed. Guy at the front desk told me they have a $50 fee to diagnose the problem and give an estimate, and if I do the repair with them, the $50 will be deducted. After several calls and four hours later they give me an estimate of $800+tax. I told them the car is old and I will think about it. As soon as I said I will not do the repair, the guys tone changed on the phone and he told me the diagnostic fee would be $100. He said they spent too much time diagnosing the problem so it was going to be $100. When I went to pick up my car, they guy said sorry for the misunderstanding about the fee. Yeah, right. Your misunderstanding, my money. This is what I call deception and crooked dealing. Its fine if you charge $100 for diagnostics, but tell it up front - dont bait and switch. If they cant be honest about the small stuff, I wonder how honest they are with the big stuff. When I came home and looked at the plastic coverings that should have been removed for diagnosis, the dust on the coverings was still there. I wonder if they did any diagnosis at all. Anyway, I got the impression that they were not a very straightforward operation, and I am certainly not going to go back there for anything.
Ive been a customer at Japanese Auto Care for years, and always come here for repairs. The customer service is phenomenal, the prices are reasonable, and theyve provided excellent care throughout the years. A great place for your auto needs!
Excellent service; never made to wait. Prompt with follow-up calls. Never ripped off. Not fancy. Local and easy walking distance to Ballston. A real jewel and great mechanic for locals. I have taken my two cars here recently and way back in day when I lived in Alexandria many years ago brought my Mazda. Highly recommend. Not a huge place but great service.
This guy saved me and my wife from being late to an out of town Embassy appointment by letting me borrow a battery pack after our car wouldnt start across the street after getting gas at the Sunoco. When I returned the pack, he wouldnt even take my money as a tip for helping us out. DC, city of politicans? How about the city of one cool mechanic?
Japanese Autocare became my go-to mechanic a few years ago when I lived in Arlington. I moved to D.C. a couple years ago and despite the inconvenience of driving out to Arlington, I still go to them because their service is so good. Theyre the classic mechanic you look for: honest, communicative, fair prices, and thorough. I highly recommend heading there for all your auto repair and maintenance needs.
Owner is very unprofessional as well as the mechanics that work here. The russian mechanic has a terrible attitude and doesnt make time to fully explain the issue. The manager/owner allows the mechanics to bait and switch their customers. I was told that they would need to do certain checks to make sure there was no issue and my vehicle was safe. Upon arriving to pick up my vehicle I found out nothing was done other than taking the vehicle on a test drive. This is NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. We agreed that the mechanic would confirm if my car needed an axle but he only confirmed that he did not hear a noise. On top of that this garage overcharged me for a simple procedure. I was charged 200 dollars to simply remove the tires on my vehicle. Instead of actually checking to see if my vehicle was broken or unsafe they simply drove it around the block and told me the car was fine. Then they put tires on my car that I did not want. There are much better places in Arlington to take your car for service. Trust me...stay away from this place at all costs!!!
My go-to mechanic. Reasonable labor rate and honest work. I first took my car here when a nearby shop wanted to charge out the wazoo to keep trying ideas in fixing an issue they were trying to track down despite my telling them the likely cause. Japanese Auto Care listened, quickly confirmed the source, and fixed it at minimal cost.
These guys are great! Honest and upfront with reasonable pricing and sound advice!
Weve taken our two Honda vans here for servicing for years and have always had a great experience. They are friendly and very knowledgeable. Their rates are competitive and reasonable. Overall Id strongly recommend Japanese Auto Care.
Nothing but great! They are very knowledgeable and helpful, they took great care of our 10y old Honda. AND they DONT play games or try to charge you for unnecessary services. Also - the prices are affordable. 10/10
I needed to replace the regular battery in my Lexus hybrid. Our regular repair shop had advised us its days were numbered. The first cold snap it gave out and the battery had to be jumped. The car is 13 years old and has over 225 000 miles. I thought I could pull up to an Auto Zone and get a quick replacement for cheap. Wrong, even the regular battery in a hybrid is special. Our regular shop could not fit us in so we tried our neighbors shop. She has the same car and sings high praise for the Japanese Auto in Falls Church. After receiving quick and pleasant service I am ready to join her in a duet.
I decided to take my Mazda here because of the good reviews I read. I will never go back. I needed a routine oil change and tire rotation and it took a very long time. They charged a lot and I got my car back in worse condition. The steering column intermittently vibrated which didnt happen before. There was also a vibrational grinding noise from the front tires. I called back and they said they could try to balance the tires for me so I decided to give them a second chance. Bad idea. They were an hour late taking my appointment and the tire sound was even worse after the work was done. On the phone call to let me know they finished they told me the sound was much better and my car drives more smoothly now. Either he lied to me or didnt actually test my car to make sure it was fixed. Either way it ended up being a huge waste of time and money.
They diagnosed my car’s problem very accurately which was of the utmost importance since it was a significant repair. There were some delays in repairing it but they were very apologetic the delays were in getting the necessary parts and thus was out of their control. I will definitely be bringing my old Subaru back here.
Ive taken my Infiniti G35 here twice now and both times have been great experiences! Theyve done the brakes and replaced my muffler, and both times they explained what needed to be done, how much it would cost, and were even willing to work with me to get slightly cheaper parts if I wanted to knock down the price a bit more. They didnt try to upsell me on anything either. 10/10 would recommend!
Short: They provide excellent customer service, are honest, committed, and make repairs quickly. They also communicate issues, solutions, and updates via phone.Long: I had a 2016 Honda Odyssey that was causing some steering shake when braking. I read the reviews for this place and decided to speak to the rep over the phone. He was very polite and gave me an appointment. I went in the next morning and they told me that they will look at the car and call me back once they diagnose it.After an hour or so they called and confirmed the slight steering shake and told me that the front rotors were slightly warped and glazed. He also mentioned that my front brake pads had about 70% life left and rears had 60%. The rep was very honest and told me that I could still safely drive the car without having the rotors changed until my pads wear out a bit more. I could then come back later and have them changed.I thanked him for his honesty, but still decided on getting the rotors and pads changed because this was my wifes car, and I didnt want to hear any type of steering shake complaints. :)Japanese Auto Care proceeded with making the repairs the same day and told me the car was ready about 4-5 hours later. I was so glad that I was able to drive the car back the same day. Theyre prices and service are unbeatable.
This shop is very trustworthy and honest! I took my car here because I thought there was a problem with my clutch, but they determined that it was within normal working condition. It would have been well within their rights to charge me the standard diagnostic fee, but they did not! You do not have to worry about being ripped off here!
Hands down, THE BEST automotive service shop in Northern Virginia. I received exceptional service and their customer service is unmatched!
Replaced my coolant temperature sensor twice - the second time for free after the first one was defective.
Good people at a fair price
Great service, professional staff that helped perform a difficult check on my 2018 Subaru Forester that other mechanics nearby didnt have the ability to do. Great place to get a diagnostic check
So glad to have found a honest, fair and quality garage. They are hard to find. This one is a gem. Ive taken 4 different cars here over a 5 year period and when the decision to buy another Honda or a BMW came up, I picked the Honda because I knew I had a great mechanic shop for servicing. Thanks for your excellence!
I would highly recommend Japanese Auto Care. Each time Ive done business with them theyre communicative, honest, fair, and most of all, do really good work. I have used and will continue to use them to service my Subaru.
These guys are honest, extremely knowledgeable, and repaired an aging Honda minivan very well on a reasonable timetable for what needed to be done. Would use again without question.
I brought a low mileage 2007 Acura TL here and asked that they treat the car as though it was going to their own child (as I am) - and they did. They did major and minor preventive maintenance work (new timing belt, rotate tires, etc), and the car ran like brand new when I picked it up. It was a decent running car when I brought it in, and I couldnt believe the improvement. The guys at the desk were great, and the price was fair - and much better than it would have been at the dealer. I will definitely return.
Honest Communication. Quality Service.
Very good prices and service. I would also add theyre very honest people.
Best mechanics for all Japanese vehicles. Fair price, great work quality, and top notch customer service.
Noting engine vibration when idling, I had their shop check the engine mounts on my Toyota Corolla. They test drove the car, then placed it on a lift so they could examine the mounts more closely. They said that the mounts were worn, but not torn so they did not present a safety issue. They recommended not replacing the mounts at this time since the car has 184,000 miles on it and mount replacement is expensive. Their honest assessment of the problem was greatly appreciated. I was very impressed with their facilities and the professional way they approached car repair.
Only have had to use them twice (I have a Toyota, they dont break very often!), but they did a great job both times and I was impressed with how quickly the work was performed. Keep up the good work! 👍
I dont leave many reviews on here - but wanted to say these folks are honest, fair and they do what they say in the time they say it will be done. plus, oil changes are more affordable than other chains ive used in the past.
I took my Lexus 98 with 230K mileage in, due to the battery alert lights on. Japanese Auto Care installed a new battery and a new alternator in one day and my car runs great! Its only a few blocks away from Ballston-MU Metro. I saw some female customers in and out. Thats a good sign to me. Highly recommended!
Best price for synthetic oil change in the area. They were professional, efficient and got the job down quickly. I will return!
Fantastic auto repair shop. The service has always been great and on-time. The staff are very friendly and very honest. Theyve helped keep my high-mileage Toyota going strong.
DONT GO HERE. Worst mechanic experience in my life. They keep changing the price and then claim that you didnt understand. First the garage manager got aggressive with me when I was asking questions to make sure I was understanding the estimated cost. I end up talking to his boss, Jackson, who calmly explains the billing process for me. Then I get a call the next morning saying that the part to fix my car will not be in until Tuesday. So I ask if I can pick my car up. The guy, Jackson, says sure. I get to the shop and then he tells me that it is going to costs an additional $95 since I am picking it up today. I told him he didnt not tell me that. He proceeds to apologize and say it was his fault, but still is going to charge me $95 for his mechanics having to put it back together. He tells me Im just not understanding the process, that his employees dont work for free. I argue with him saying its his mistake and he should eat the costs. I end up taking my car that day, still messed up, out $285 dollars.
Fair price....good work
I am giving three stars, primarily because of the good service I have received earlier during the past decade, but I am less and less impressed with this shop as the staff and service seems to have declined. As can be surmised, I am a long time customer. However, when I called recently, asking if I could bring my car into the shop for a checkup because I am about to go on some long driving trips, I was told that they couldnt give me an appointment until the day I have to leave. The person on the phone sounded like he didnt really care. After all, I would think at a minimum, if he wanted to appear to attempt to provide good customer service, he would be apologetic that he didnt have a time earlier, then ask for my name and number and tell me that he would call if there are any cancellations. Given how the service here has worsened over the years, I doubt I will be taking my car back.
Untrustworthy due to poor communication between mechanics.
I’ve been going there for more than 30 years. You can’t beat the service—friendly, honest, dependable, great price—they do a great job!
Excellent work at a more than fair price. They’re upfront and honest. Even though I no longer work in Ballston it’s still the only place I take my cars. Make sure you’re going to the location at the corner of Glebe and Washington, because there are similarly named places. This is the one you want. FYI no state inspections here.
They give amazing and perfectly priced service. Ive compared and they never rip you off. Trust them for sure, especially compared to dealerships.
I decided to visit for the first time to get an oil change, and some other engine/transmission repairs. Everyone was very professional, and I received updates on the vehicle throughout the day. My Toyota was fixed the same day, and running exactly how I wanted, on the same day. Great work/fair pricing.
Had nothing but positive experiences here. Pricing is consistent and fair and the work is done properly the first time (listen Ive had some bad mechanics). Turnaround time on the work is pretty good too. Protip: pay in cash if you can.
Great and honest service.
I love it here. I come once a year for checkups and they are so nice and patient. They explain the issues they dont try to sell you issues.
Unusually accommodating service center. They are capable, they do what they commit to ol, and they keep in touch. Rates very reasonable. I have come to trust these folks. Thats not normal.
I brought my Mazda 3 in for a starter replacement, which they did quickly, if somewhat expensively. My trust was lost when they called and said I needed new rear brakes (describing the pads as almost metal on metal) and a new air filter. I declined both, based partly on the high quoted costs (approximately another $550) for above what the actual parts would cost (approximately $110). I replaced the rear brakes (pads and rotors) 4 weeks later and discovered the pads had a quarter inch remaining. The air filter, while slightly dirty, wasnt in need of replacement either. Based on recommending work as being immediately necessary that clearly was not, I can not concur with other reviewers assessment of this shops forthrightness.
Due to poor customer service my car was never serviced here. I called to make an appointment and spoke with a guy (who never gave his name) who wasnt very helpful, his answers were very short like he was busy or annoyed with my questions, but I just chalked it up to the possibility I caught him at a bad time or they were very busy. Based on all the great online reviews I decided to go ahead and make an appointment anyway. The day of my appointment comes and I call to let them know I was running late but I would be there shortly. The guy who answered the phone let me know they had no record of an appointment for me and asked if I had the right place and who I talked to. After insisting I had called the right place he asked what all I needed to be done and placed me on hold for a bit. When he came back to the phone he just kept saying that I had called the wrong place because they had no record of an appt and there were lots of places like theirs around the area and that they werent able to service my car. Fortunately I ended up doing a walk in at K&B Auto on Van Dorn St., who thankfully were amazing. What bothers me most about this experience with Japanese Auto Care was that even after telling him I had taken off for the day to get this work done and that I could show him my phone history proving a call took place the week prior, he never once offered to make another appointment or let me know when they would be available to do the work. Its an unfortunate encounter that I think could have been avoided, but at least I found K&B out of it!!
Best ever. Honest, reliable work. I wont bring my cars anywhere else as long as I live here
Avoid the dishonest service manager.I called a few days before drop off and they quoted me a price over the phone for installing tires - $30 per tire. The person I talked to over the phone said no appt. was necessary - first come first served. When I showed up, they said they normally take appointments and stated that I must have called the wrong place (I definitely did not call the wrong place). Then he he told me the charge is $45 per tire ($180 total). I said no thanks, since other places charge $25 per tire. The guy said Have a nice morning, were not other places. BTW, Firestone will do it for $70 total.
Honest, helpful, quick, reasonably priced. About as good as you can get.
Very Very nice place to do business -- even though I didnt require a lot. Let me tell you why.As I was driving to work this morning from Virginia to DC I noticed I had a tire going flat. I pulled off Rt. 66 to head towards Arlington where I thought sure I could find a station with a garage attached. Instead I found Japanese Auto Care. The attendant came right out and I explained my concern. He asked if I could wait for about 10 mins. They put my car up on the lift, removed 2 nails (and showed me the nails) and patched the tire. I was on my way in about 20 mins. altogether -- but the gentleman said No charge. I offered to pay him something -- but he insisted it was no charge. I thank him ever so much. WOW! was all I could say when I got in my car. I was amazed at easy that was -- and how that simple act of kindness and good customer service relieved my stress of the morning commute. I am thankful. (I might add too that as I was waiting, a gentleman came in to inquire about his car that he had towed there. The shop had received the car, and already performed an initial analysis of what was wrong. The guy was very appreciative and said that he could have had his car towed anywhere but that he had seen the good review on Yelp and decided to have it towed there. He was pleased and thanked them for their great service.)
I couldnt have had a worse experience here. They absolutely ripped me off, sold me parts I didnt need, and damaged the engine in the process then refused to admit they made any mistakes. It was a nightmare.
I have gone here three times and they have made nontrivial mistakes twice, so I will not be coming back. The first visit was for a new timing belt, and this went fine and the price was reasonable, and the service is friendly. Thus, a 2-star and not a 1-star review. The second visit was for a punctured fuel tank. They installed the a new one with a leaky gasket (claiming they got an old brittle one from the manufacturer, but then, why install it?). They also fouled the flow valve into the gas tank by letting it soak in gasoline during the repair, which I found out when I couldnt fill my tank on a road trip. Those got fixed but it took three visits.Theyre near work so I gave them another chance on a 15K routine service, and asked them to find a slow leak in my back rear tire as part of it. They put the tires back on the car at 55 PSI -- i.e., they didnt finish the test correctly -- which I fortunately found fast. (They also didnt find the leak, but said that two others that dont really need air on a regular basis were leaking and wanted $70 each to dismount, remount, and rebalance them, i.e., not too much less than a new tire.)
Mehhh, another mediocre repair shop. Been going off and on for a few years. Sometimes they do great work, other times not so much. I am tired of dealing with their front desk staff who shield you from the mechanics. There were times when ive absolutely diagnosed the problem only to have them insist on doing their own diagnosis at additional expense to reach the same conclusion. Most recently they refused look at a broken part on the exhaust insisting on making an appointment to put it on the lift. Really? Just needed 30 seconds of the mechanics time to look at the dangling part for an initial opinion. At that point you could have easily talked me into the more comprehensive lift event. Bottom line - Im tired of being disrespected and talked down to as if my opinion isnt relevant.
These guys are great. Reasonable prices and true honesty.
After all the glowing reviews, I was expecting miracles, but thats not what I found. Tiny shop, very compressed parking, and very average customer service. They dont do front end alignments and recommend tire shops for that particular service. Not convinced Ill go back.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Called me immediately when my car was done; on time and under budget!
I feel they were expensive
Honest shop. What more do you need?
Great service, convenient location, fair and honest pricing.
Very honest shop.
TRUSTWORTHY
Honest
I told you that it was sounding in the muffler, but he said that the mechanic was okay, but after checking it, he was out of the way.
