My stepdaughter had never had a perm before and wanted one. We went to Andrea and it turned out amazing. Andrea is very knowledgeable about all types of hair, especially dyed/bleached hair, is very friendly, and made my stepdaughter fell at ease during the whole process. It was an great experience.

Very gorgeous place! The inside was very clean and smelled wonderful (as most hair salons do). Andrea was insanely kind and made me feel very comfortable for my first haircut in over 3 years! I definitely recommend this place, the prices are great, the hairdressers are fantastic, it couldnt be any better! Ill be back :)

I really love my haircut that I got done by Country. I really appreciate her taking her time with the consultation and the hair cut. I really like how to explain to be to let the hair grow out. She was really wonderful hairstylist that gave me what I wanted. I am from out of town but really recommend this salon. All the workers were really friendly when you want into the salon. Country did amazing work on my hair.

Brandi at The Salon does incredible work! She was able to keep the length of my hair like I wanted while still trimming what was necessary. And she knows her stuff when it comes to coloring! I wanted a natural look, but I also wanted it lighter than it was, so she hooked me up! 10/10!

Not only did I finally get a proper haircut for the first time since 2019 (thanks COVID), but the stylist (Andrea) made sure to work with what I wanted and my natural hair texture to make sure that even after some growth, itll still look amazing. I knew I wanted something different than the buzz jobs Id been doing at home, and Andrea delivered! And she didnt use any product in my hair, so I know this is truly a low maintenance haircut - something I value a lot.Im a trans man, and had used this place prior to my transition, so I was worried about getting misgendered or dead named. Instead, they just changed my name in the system and that was that! A huge relief for someone whos had his fair share of negative experiences.They were also really good with kids. A family with 2 children under 5 were getting haircuts right next to me and I was blown away by how kind and friendly the stylist (I think her name was Courtney?) was with the kids. I know haircuts can be scary for the little ones, but it was all laughter and smiles.Id give more stars if I could, and Im going to miss this place once I move away.

Just got my hair done yesterday by Alan and he did such an amazing job!! everyone there is also extremely nice, the space is comfortable, and overall is was a great experience!

I scheduled an appointment with a stylist and she rescheduled me twice and I ended up canceling because they had such a hard time keeping an appointment. Not very pleased.

Great service and staff who are good at reading the wants of their customers regarding conversation. The Salon has never felt like clique, talking about things that you dont have the information needed to understand. The cosmetologists are not afraid to give you all the information you need to make the right choice for your hair, and are knowledgeable on new trends.

Alan did a super job on my curly hair. He gave me helpful tips to keep the curls, and allowed me to choose to air dry my hair out the salon! He is a personable guy who is easy to talk to. Also, the atmosphere is very chill. They offered me some water, which Ive never been treated like that at a salon before. Very cool place and will definitely be coming back!

The Salon is a great place to get a haircut! Ive been going to Alan for about two years. I have never once received anything but an amazing haircut every time. The staff is very friendly and will do whatever they can to make you comfortable if you have to wait at all for your appointment. I would highly recommend the Salon if youre a person new to Ames, or just an established Ames resident who hasnt really thought too much before about where to get a haircut.

Ive been getting my hair cut at the salon for years. I also go there to get my eyebrows waxed. They are on the pricey side for haircuts but the results are excellent. I see Alan who is a skilled stylist. when Im unsure of how to change my hair Alan has been a great help in keeping my style fresh.

Got a cut and color today, along with an eyebrow wax. I had Courtney, and she was great!! Highly recommend. I was very nervous because I was doing something a little different than I usually do, and she was very reassuring and knew what she was doing completely. Highly recommend her!

This place is amazing. The staff is so friendly and warm, welcoming you at the door and asking if you would like a drink. They really do treat you so well, even at the register! I am shocked how affordable hair color is! The salon is immaculate and I will never get my hair colored anywhere else. The owner works the shop along with other stylist and welcomes everyone, such a pleasant experience and I cannot wait to go back!!!!

I am very picky about who touches my hair. I just moved to Ames so I was looking for a new stylist and salon. As soon as I entered the environment was relaxing and welcoming. This place made me feel comfortable and my stylist Karissa was absolutely amazing. Everyone I know loves my new hair style and color. I will definitely be going back!

I LOVE The Salon. I saw Allie all 4 years of my Iowa State adventure, and enjoyed every visit. The salon itself is a fresh, fun atmosphere. You can always expect to be greeted and offered a drink when you check in. Plus, who doesnt love Bumble & Bumble? Allie is super talented and always did a great job--sometimes I had something in mind, and shed nail it. Sometimes I just told her to use her best judgment, and she always came through and gave me a fun new look (be it cut, color, or both!). Ive since moved across the country, but plan to squeeze in appointments in Ames anytime I come through!

It was so simple. I just came in and said my name. Someone said Youre going with Josh today. And he did my hair PERFECTLY and then he said Your haircut is on me today. I offered to pay, but he insisted. Then he sent me home with some SUMOtech gel. This place is amazing. The staff are nice and they make you feel at home.

When I went in my hair was very brassy. I explained to Joshua that I wanted to tone it down a bit after talking with me and looking at different colors with me he gave me the perfect color! He then shaped up my hair with his magic scissors! He suggested a couple of the Salons signature Bumble and Bumble products. Best home products I have ever used! After my appointment I had several people comment on how good my hair looked and how much younger the color made me look (I am 45)...plus over 90 likes on Facebook... I havent ever got that many likes on anything! The Salon will never get rid of me now!

Terrible customer service. made an appointment online with them a week in advance. they called me 20 minutes before my appointment, day of, and told me there was a schedule mix up and couldnt fit me in. told me the only next day they could fit me in was in another week. I told them that wouldnt work and they HUNG UP ON ME!! rudest encounter ever! I cannot believe they canceled on me 20 minutes before my appointment. In utter awe right now of how rude they were to me. Do not use this company!!

A few months ago I went in for a trim, with moderately damaged hair. I will admit that. I asked the stylist to make sure my hair stayed below my collar bone, note it was midway down my back at this point.I left with hair just above my shoulders. I cried the whole car ride home. I was explicit. Despite this, she cut off four inches on the first cut. My hair is just now to my collar bones and I still almost cry about it. It took me years to get my hair that long. Years, and in a second a lazy, inconsiderate stylist ruined that.As a woman, my hair is an important part of my identity and The Salon has no respect for that. I will never forgive that stylist for ruining my hair. Do not go here.

I went in for a 2-hr appointment to get some major things done to my hair - radical cut and color. I went in, and I got a preliminary cut, then was made to wait for 1 hour because the guy who was cutting my hair scheduled someone else at the same time. Then my hair was colored, and then I got a bland and sad haircut.I specifically went there to get a cool, punk rock haircut from someone who was comfortable being creative with my hair. I ended up with a glorified bob. And I had to wait 1 hour in between for this too. What a waste of money. Oh, and they also made sure to sign me up with one of the more expensive guys to do this... because when you get bad service, you should pay extra for it.

One of our friends bragged about Alan, so my close friend went to him to color her hair. He totally messed it up and charged her extra money even though he didn’t do anything close to what she had requested. He was rude and arrogant and never told her that what she had requested couldn’t be done, he said it after everything was done. She had to pay more than $200 for nothing. He was the worst, did the worst job and hurt her feelings on top of that. Nobody should go to him!! 👎🏻

One bad hair style could be horrific.After viewing their website, and getting a really great feel for the company, and the people who make them great, I chose The Salon, specifically Josh and have never once thought of walking into another salon.From my first appointment two years ago, til now, Ive always felt important, welcomed and valued. Upon moving to Ames, Josh was a huge help filling me in on the community, things to do, restaurants to check out, and helping however he could with easing the transition.Now, my family is preparing to move back to Michigan and the one thing thatmakes me the most sad about leaving Ames, is leaving The Salon. Which Im notentirely sure I will be able to I might just need to travel further for futureappointments!Its a professional but incredibly fun environment its stylish, its cool but not too cool that a person would ever feel out of place or judged. Theproduct line is by far my new favorite. Having your stylist bash your clients because they dont tip in social media is absolutely unprofessional. Seeing that made me scared to even go to your salon now because if I dont tip I dont want to be bashed all over social media about not tipping.

Best place to have your hair cut in Ames

This was not a good experience. After I went there and called a manager to complain THEN I learned that the girl I went to was still in training. If I had known I would have chosen someone else. The girl was nice enough, but got the color all wrong, she had to go back and add more foils, take me back a second time to rinse ALL of the color out of my hair and she never finished my hair because it was interrupted by the re-foiling. This is in addition to the color that is still all around my hairline and on my neck. I have an appt. to have them fix it.
