Needed VA safety inspection, and my local place was extremely busy. Had a meeting in the area, and drove up for an inspection. They were at least two cars ahead of me, so I walked to the coffee shop up the street. They finished the inspection quickly, and called me when it was done. Very courteous service

Went in before we were going on a road trip and everything was promptly done and they communicated very well the stuff we needed to do now and the other maintenance that could wait. No pressure and very helpful. Prices were better than another repair shop in the neighborhood and the service was great!

Quick / efficient option for receiving the air pollution/safety certifications

Our number 1 priority is customer service. VERY far from it! During the Colonial Pipeline shutdown I came here to get gas after seeing someone else pumping their tank. Apparently, that someone else was the owner, and he repeatedly told me that there wasnt enough gas to go around and ONLY he could get gas because he was the OWNER and he can do what he wants. Not only was his tone extremely condescending to me when going on about this, but this is a form of discrimination and greed. Holding onto ESSENTIAL goods during an emergency just to take care of YOU and YOUR OWN first. Extremely disappointed by the customer service here and will never consider this place again for any of my auto needs. Money is a form of support, and by no means was his behavior and decision something that I want to support, especially during this emergency. Im also African American, so do as you wish with that information. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else with better customer service and no discrimination.

The guy named Sam was very rude and unprofessional while I was getting gas for my car. I was hardly there 10 minutes, and apparently that was too long. So, if you get gas there, better move out within 5 minutes or you will get yelled at by their staff. I guess they don’t want the business…

Took my car to get inspected and it had some issues. Went to the Lexus dealer to get them fixed and the Del Ray service center said some things were broken that not even the Lexus dealer was an issue. Spent hundreds of dollars on fixes between the dealership and an auto parts store. Went for a reinspect and the tech broke what I worked so hard to fix right in front of me and said ‘still fails’. Go someplace else if you have an older car - terrible customer service.

Fast service for safety and emission testing. I had to wait but they also drop off and pick up later and I waited less than 30 minutes.

I dont know why one cant make an appointment for a state inspection. That said, I dropped my car off about 8:30 am and they caller to say the inspection was complete in a little more than an hour.

Got my annual state inspection here. $20. Short wait, good service.

Had to get some routine maintenance done and they were great. Super friendly and got the car back to me the same day and took care of what I needed. So much easier and cheaper than having to go to the dealer and waiting a few days for it.

I had a safety inspection at a different place. They told me I needed new $1000 struts on a 37k mi car! I got a second opinion here and they explained that I had a floating suspension and I was being inspected incorrectly at the other place. Plus they noticed one of my tires was on backward which the other place missed. They are honest and knowledgeable.

I went in for a second opinion and Sam was extraordinarily helpful. He took the time to talk with me, explained what was going on with my car, and what the costs would be if I had them done then, and what makes sense to repair now, vs what could wait a bit longer. While I didnt have the repair done there because part of the repair was under warranty from another shop, I would definitely recommend them. Honest mechanics at a reasonable price are hard to find, especially in the area!

I have taken my Toyota Highlander to Del Ray Service Center several times over the last 3 years. Sam in particular has helped me, and is extremely knowledgable about cars, specifically Toyota/Lexus. Recently another mechanic told me I needed a few things done (after they gave me an oil change) and I went to Sam for his opinion and also b/c Id rather have him work on my car, and he pointed out that what they thought was a problem wasnt the right thing. He also showed me that this other company tried to tell me I needed a new battery when mine was fine, and also was under warranty. What Im saying is that Sam is never going to try to find something wrong with your car that doesnt need fixing. He is an honest person, and they always fix my car so quickly Im usually surprised. Highly recommend Del Ray Service Center, have only ever had great experiences there.

Ladies, a mechanic you can trust! I would highly recommend bringing your car here for any mechanical issue it has. I just moved from PA and needed inspections, and it turns out some work on my exhaust. Chris was wonderful from start to finish. He took the time to explain the problem, showed me the part and explained in laymans terms what caused the problem and how he was proposing to fix it. He didnt try to upsell me the more expensive fix, and was honest about his pricing. He encouraged me to even call around before making a decision. I took it to him, the work was done in a timely fashion, and with good communication. The price was exactly what he quoted. I have found my mechanic here for sure! Thanks for the great service!

This place is awesome! I lost my tire lock key and was unable to change my tire. Lucky enough I was within a few mins of Del Rey auto! Thanks to SAM, I was able to change my tire! He went and took all my stupid wheel lock keys off! You guys are the best!

I’m so glad I read these reviews! I went here a few months ago to do an oil change, tire rotation, and a VA car and safety inspection. The service was well-priced and everyone was super nice. Crist walked me through everything and gave me good advice. He also gave recommendations of where I get a good and less expensive battery for my car. I will definitely be going back.

Stopped in here a few times over the past couple years for service (and bi-weekly for gas). Service is always amazing, everyone here is super helpful - they helped me with a dead battery issue post-deployment, (charged it for free and made a recommendation if I needed a new one). Stopped in again for state inspections and oil change, Crist did me a real favor and helped me find the exact part I needed from the dealer - didnt make me buy it from him and helped me avoid the safety failure.Bottom line, these guys will help you out; people are more important than money here.

I went to get VA state inspection. I arrived around 7:45 am and was checked in and told they would begin at 8AM. The car was inspected promptly and I was on my way. Very easy experience. I recommend if you need a state inspection.

I would recommend this place to everyone. They are honest, fairly priced, and Im very happy with the work. They clearly care about their business because most reviews for other places dont have responses from the owner, which shows they take the time to get feedback from the customers. Some people complain about the wait times here, but if there is a place that does good work it will hardly be a secret. You may have to wait for quality work.I came in for an inspection. No one tried to sell me an emissions test that I didnt need. Being new to the area I could have easily been sold. Each inspection took 15 minutes. I had to wait 45 minutes because I had to wait my turn, but it wasnt the end of the world. I didnt get his name, but I watched him do the safety inspection. He was very thorough and actually did an inspection. I was initially nervous they were going to find something and fail it, and they could have but didnt. They found issues with my truck that I knew about that other inspections did not catch. If you are looking for someplace to just slap a sticker on your car then this isnt the place.The repair I needed required some welding. They didnt fail my inspection and force me to use them for the repair. I came back a few days later with the parts needed and Christ had the job done a day before I requested it to be complete. The work was professional quality and other than the fresh paint on the weld I cant tell that any work was done.Christ called me after he was off work and let me know the job was complete. I was worried I would need to find a way out of work to pick it up while the garage was open, but you can pick up your car up until 10:00 PM or as early as 7:00 AM. Very convenient. I was looking for a place I can trust and go to for just about anything and I think I found it.If I had to complain about something, they could use some more chairs in their waiting area. 5 stars.

He told us just today that an expensive repair the dealership said we needed (we took our car in for a recall replacement) isn’t needed for at least another year or two—that the dealership was way too premature on the diagnosis. 👍

Ive been going here for years, but today I went in to get a couple of rusted out screws on my license plate holder replaced. The manager, Christ, didnt charge me, and got them off in just a few minutes. Great place, super friendly, and the prices are good too.

I got my state emissions and safety inspection done here today, I was one point away from failing because my tires wheel lock had corroded into the wheel, Crist, the shop manager was very helpful and somehow managed to get the wheels off for me to pass inspection. He did this for free and it certainly took more time than the average inspection, I appreciate his kindness, helpfulness and willingness to go out of his way for me. Ill certainly be a returning customer and will more than likely refer them more business. Highly recommend, best customer service in town!

We just bought our first car and needed to get the Safety done. We live about 5 minutes away so we figured we would drop off the car and walk up Mt. Vernon Ave while we waited. It did take a little while since it was the last day of the month (that was our fault, haha), but we received a call saying our brake lights was out and they would fix it. We had no idea it was out, so we were thankful for their call. They called when it was done and had the car ready for us when we got there. They were friendly and informative, and we are so happy we found their shop. Our car needs some tune-up maintenance, and we will definitely be bringing it here. Great mechanics, honest workers, and they don’t overcharge you!

Brought my car in for oil change and tire rotation. Crist was my mechanic and provided excellent service. My bumper was loose from a minor accident and he offered to zip-tied/bolted it back on free of charge. Best customer service and pricing Ive ever had at an auto repair shop!

Just a really helpful and honest shop Crist fixed a trunk issue for me in about 2 minutes and didnt charge. They were very helpful in getting repairs I needed to pass inspection and really appreciated the candor, honesty, and helpfulness.

I requested an oil change and change to my washer fluid and the experts at Del Ray Service Center followed the recommended maintenance checklist for a car with my cars mileage. They then offered me additional services that I could choose to take or leave. The team is friendly and fast. Make sure you find out why they are making a recommendation, because it may save the life of your car in the end

Walked into the place and asked for tome on emissions testing. He said 15-20 min. I walked around town for an hour and 20 min. Car still not touched. I reminded him he said 15-20 min. He said one of the guys had a problem. I said its been over an hour. He said I told you 15-20 min per car in front of me. Mixed stories and they still didnt add up. No apology or anything.

5 stars well deserved. I started off my morning by getting my wallet locked in my glove box. The key wasn’t working and it turns out the latch was broken. I drove up and was immediately serviced. Crist was friendly, outgoing, and most importantly efficient. He had my on my way in less than 10 mins and turned my morning around with his friendly demeanor. Crist was absolutely amazing. He stayed late to diagnose my car and as he was working on it, 3 other people showed up...and he helped them to. Great team, excellent service!

I took my 79 Jeep in to have the front brake hoses and pads replaced. They also bled the brake lines. The grand total was $148 and 2 days. I believe these guys are honest and do a good job. Additionally, their gas is always cheaper than anywhere else and of equal quality. Btw, I am mechanically inclined and do the majority of my own car repairs and maintenance, therefore, I know when Im getting a quality service at a reasonable cost. I will come here first next time I am feeling a little to lazy to do the work myself.

Horrible place. Rude manager was yelling at customers who simply asked for an update on how long it would be until their car was finished. I also saw him trick a customer into paying for an emissions inspection months before the previous sticker expired. Stay away from this place!Edit: Convincing attempt (below) by the business to save face. However, this actually happened. Behave unethically and eventually your customers will call you out on it. Admit your mistakes and people may trust you again eventually.

These guys are great, I had a REALLY rough morning, got towed for my inspection being 10 days overdue. I picked it up and went to a place to have it inspected (chose somewhere on the way to work to avoid being even later, not gonna name names but it rhymes with massmort missan) and they failed me and told me I’m looking at about $2000 in repairs To. Pass. A. Dang. Inspection. ANYWAY I dipped out of there and brought my car to Del Ray, and I’m so glad I did, first of all my guy was like “they TOWED you for a late inspection? That’s crazy” and I was like yes dude tell me about it. Then they inspected my car again, told me that the only real fail was a $25 fix (windshield wipers), and broke down what things Will eventually need serviced and roughly when. My guy Sam spoke openly and honestly with me about my vehicle and what it’s needs were. Took what could have been a $2000 day, and made it a $50 day, plus gave me a better understanding of the condition of my car. Honestly soooo glad to have found this place.

Negatives:- oil change & tire rotation took too long for being next in line. Picked up my car 6 hrs after I dropped it off.- They called me a told me and told me the car would be done in 30 minutes. Came in two hours later to find my car on the lift and mechanic sitting on his a$$. Only when I showed up did he then do my oil change.- Wanted to charge me $80 for the accessory belt ($30 at AutoZone) and $130 for the service. Did it myself - YouTube.- Wanted to up-sale me several hundred dollars for intake cleaning, and brake line flush. I have less than 30k on my car. Read your manual and look at manufactures recommended service.- Said they topped off fluids; but had no windshield washing fluid.

We live 2 blocks away and this is what a neighborhood gas station should be. They help you put air in your tires, they helped my wife fix the stroller(not charging her a penny), they drop us home, and when my mother in law(who is in her 70s) goes there, they come out and fill up her gas tank so she doesnt have to get out of the car. Also have the cheapest gas prices in the neighborhood. They always seem to be fair and will tell you if they cant fix something and you should take it to the dealer.

As others do, I skip over the 5 star reviews and immediately look at the bad reviews. But Im compelled to write a review and add my name to the long list of existing 5 star reviews for this place. Being new to the area, I was referred to this shop for a state safety inspection on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche. I never drive that thing and I was so worried it would not pass for some unknown reason. Also, since this was my first visit to this shop, I was worried they might use the state inspection as an opportunity to get more business and charge for things that didnt really need to be done.Well, Ken and the nice gentleman at the counter (sorry, didnt get your name) put all my fears to rest!I was in and out within 20 minutes (10 minutes less than what they told me) and they didnt try to pull any funny business or force unneeded repairs just to pass the state safety inspection. Thank you again for your honesty; a rare find in todays automotive repair and maintenance business. You have just earned yourself a new customer. :-)

Del Ray Service Center has been a solid and conscientious business in the heart of the neighborhood for a long time. The service is quick and efficient and reasonably priced. Rohan and Crist are friendly and offer alternatives to sometimes unnecessarily expensive repairs. Crist took a lot of time to talk me through a major repair to the front end of my car. His suggestions and information about obtaining after-market parts saved me hundreds of dollars. We are happy that they are offering fuel for considerably less than their competitors as well. Keep up the good work!

Good service.... took a little longer than expected for a safety inspection but the service was really good....

Good service on my vehicle. One of the mechanics had an awful attitude that day and basically told me I could go to a cheaper place before I even opened my mouth (he saw I am a young African American woman and stereotyped). Really rubbed me the wrong way. He also mouthed off about how much he doesn’t like German vehicles and I never asked for his opinion. I won’t come back here again but they did a good job fixing a few things on my vehicle (that he hated so much). Word of advice: unless somebody asks, keep your opinion to yourself. The guy with the earrings talks a lot and I’m sure on a good day he’s great but he needs to work on his people skills.

Great place for VA inspection there is a Wallgreens acorss the street as well as a corner bakery spot that you can kill time while waiting for your car.

Took the car in, making noise. $700 later, still making the noise and tech says the $700 worth of work was to get safety inspection done to pass. We did agree to the work to be done, $300 for brakes and $400 for the noise. Tech now says he does not know where the noise is coming from and i need to tell him, I thought he was the pro. We dont have a car so i cant get down and he says he cant fix it and will have it towed if we dont get it.Good gas prices, thats about .

I arrived overhearing some staff chatting together using profanity. I found the staff member at the desk to be rude when I arrived. When I picked up my car from the oil change and inspection, no information was verbally conveyed about the inspection. Only notes on my receipt that I read after leaving the center.

I come here for my state inspections and they do a pretty good job and tend to be fairly quick.

As I was driving along the highway, I received a low tire pressure warning on my rear driver side tire. I saw the pressure quickly decline so I stopped at the nearest gas station: Del Ray Ssrvice center. I knew it was bad, but stubbornly went in and exchanged a dollar for change to use the tire pump (to no avail). It was 8:20 and I had to be in Arlington by 9am.The service manager Crist and his colleague Rohan immediately saw and asked if I needed help. Without my car ever leaving the ground or any wheels removed, they spotted the puncture, patched the tire, and finished before 8:40. I made it to Arlington by 9, and Im confident that they were the only people nearby who could have solved the problem in that quick of time. Most other places would have made me wait for the next appointment, or charge a ridiculous premium since I was trapped.They were some of the most earnest and down to earth people that Ive encountered when having car troubles (which is all the time).Whether Im in a bind or need gas nearby, Im going to make sure to visit Crist and Rohan again.

Lazy, poor service. If youre not a mechanic you dont get good service, a 10 minute fix they ignored so they didnt have to do the extra work even though they charged for an hour.

I was driving with my 14 foot trailer one of my tires were low pressure I’m asking the owner if hi can fix it or just inflate the tire I pay either way because I need to move out it will take five minutes to inflate the tire and his answers was !! I don’t want to do it, but it’s OK with me, but his behavior tells me a lot about him, and his business; he is arrogant . Well his competitors across the street take care the problem in 10 minutes A very polite Latino who was not the owner just a simple worker ???what a difference!!!
