I took 7 rugs here to get appraised. They said they were VERY EXPENSIVE (about 20k altogether) and needed to get a deep clean. So I took their advice and gave them $800 for the cleaning process and they said after they would try to sell them. When I went to pick them up, the color of the rugs were faded and I told them this, but they said they look great. Then I asked when are they going to sell them and they said no one is buying rugs at the moment. This place does not seem trustworthy, please be careful if you plan to go here.
I bless the day I found Mr Jafri. As one who has collected rugs for 50 years, I both learned about their value and origins and had them beautifully cleaned and repaired.
Very beautiful rugs there, would have been a difficult decision. Only needed a rug pad this time. When were in the market again, this is where well go. Pete, Delmar, NY
I had a terrible experience using them to clean a wool area rug for me. If I could give them 0 stars I would. They initially told me it would take 2 weeks to have my rug cleaned. Fast forward to 3 months later and I finally got my rug back and it still smelled. Come to find out they outsource their rugs to be cleaned somewhere in NJ. This is not what they told me. I was under the impression that they cleaned all their rugs on site since that is what their website said. My rug was lost and it took them months to find it and track it down. Each time I would call someone would tell me oh yes it’s being cleaned it will be here next week. Finally after being so frustrated at the shadiness of the staff and being told time and time again. “Oh next week”I went back into the store and demanded my rug back and that I no longer wanted it cleaned, I would take it somewhere else. That’s when I found out they had shipped it out and it was somewhere in NJ but they had no idea where. When I finally did get my rug back they charged me $240. I shouldn’t have had to pay anything!! Terrible people to do business with. I still have the recorded conversation with the owner as I considered pursuing legal action at one point. Don’t do business with these people.
I like oriental carpets. One can buy very good machine-made rugs in the ancient patterns (they come from Turkey) but the Real Thing is the kind of thing your grandchildren can inherit and enjoy (I have a couple that were my great-grandparents). Jafri imports rugs -- I gather, mostly from Pakistan; thats a crossroads area connecting ancient Persia to Mughal India. The selection at various price-points is excellent; the staff is knowledgeable. Short of a visit to town (ABC or Safavieh) there really is no competition. Ive bought rugs at all three (and ended tossing out two rugs from ABC, one of which was loaded with moths...); I prefer Jafri across the board.
Mr Jafri is a pleasure to do business with. His workers have cleaned and repaired several of my rugs. The quality of work was excellent, and it was completely in a timely manner.
Tremendous selection of gorgeous rugs. All sizes, so helpful and knowledgeable.Great to try in home and work to coordinate with other furniture. Turab is great to deal with.
I, too, had a horrendous experience dealing with Mr. Jaffri. He seemed pleasant enough at first. I gave him four rugs to sell on consignment. When they did not sell after several months, I asked for them back. He suggested he keep them for a few more months. The next time I went back to get them, he could not find them and suggested perhaps they were in his other location. He never found them. The next time I went back, he had found two of the rugs, and I reclaimed them. He never found the other two quite lovely Kazak rugs, and offered no explanation and no return of money or rugs. He suggested that perhaps they had been mislabeled, but whatever the case, they were lost. No compensation, no apology. What would you call this? Like other reviewers, I would give this store a zero if I could. Be careful.
Kind of misleading. The owner Turab led us to believe that our two carpets were worth $10k to $15k+ each. So of course we went ahead with having them cleaned (two rugs cleaned $1500). Then he told us that he would assist us in selling them for us and perhaps take them to an auction and sell them that way. After months of Nothing, we took our carpets and tried to see if there was any interest in other areas (NYC, Westchester, NY etc.) and were told by a number of dealers that our rugs were worth maybe $1000-1200 ea. VERY Disappointing. If it sounds too good to be true - it usually is....
