Big Y is a very well stocked grocery store, and usually has a good selection of produce, carryout meals, and all general groceries. Theres always a decent amount on sale, and their free Big Y membership does usually trim a small chunk off my bill.It does seem like theyve gotten lazy about cleanliness in the past few months and there are constantly dozens of shopping carts overflowing the cart stalls and sticking out into the lot.Myself, as well as other shoppers have, numerous times, taken time to rearrange carts & push them in just so cars could pass both ways, and so there was a safe place to put my empty cart.I miss the variety of boneless marinated wings they used to have in the hot meals to-go section but the new popcorn chicken is inexpensive and tasty. The bakery usually is well stocked with fresh pastries, though, go before noon if you want the best variety.The staff is pretty friendly and helpful - all in all, a nice place to get your essentials and some fun treats.

This market is user friendly, and I really enjoy shopping here. The store is attractive and clean, the products are nice and fresh, I never leave empty handed. The flowers are beautiful, and they have wonderful deals. I know the employees, many on a first name basis, and they are such a big part of the stores success. I love that they have incredible employees with intellectual challenges that they empower, and also that they close the store on holidays so that their employees can spend time with their families. Old fashioned values are a great part of their success, and I am quite impressed !

Not my first stop to do grocery shopping their Slightly overpriced but, they always have what you need in stock.

The selection and product options is nicer than most places in Worcester, but every customer service experience I’ve ever had here had been horrendous. I had an issue trying to purchase fruit with WIC today, and because the store incorrectly lists their products it wasn’t approved. The supervisor on duty didn’t even look at me, removed the item and dismissed me - even though it was a store mistake. He didn’t help at all. The cashier looked mortified. I won’t be back.

Totally highly recommend everyone to go see Beth at the bakery department. Shes well knowledgeable, professional & always gives you several recommendations of things that can work for those special days. I love to have options.

May,29,2021 had an horrible experience with the lady manager tonight!! My co worker and i went to buy seafood after work in our work clothes which we where discriminately looked and judged at! by this lady as we walked in the store she never took her eyes off us “Never mind we work for a Millionaire company” that we are hard workers WITH MONEY” she decides to walk all the way back to the seafood department from where she was at the bakery when we first walks in, as we walk deciding what to buy she is still walking to her employees and whispering things in their ears and they quickly turn their look to us!! This happened all the way as we exit the store and there she is whispering again to a gentlemen which obviously is a security guy there and he quickly turns his eyes to us as she speaks to him!! I really hope something gets done this discrimination and judging needs to stop i will go back and get her name and make it public here if any actions are not taken!!!!

Always clean and easy to shop there! Only concern is the lack of small shopping carts!

Quite pricey, and qualitywise its not as good as Wholefoods or TraderJoes, but they have a lot of stuff, and some things are not bad! I come here for convenience.

The man in the bakery dept was so rude to me I wanted to walk out!!’ He talked down to me because o asked to see the bakery book he said that because of Covid I couldn’t touch it so I asked him to please turn the pages so I can find the right cake for my son‘s birthday he said I don’t have time to do that what do you think this is I can’t touch the book and you won’t help me by turning the pages? It was the worst service I’ve ever received at big Y I may as well have been at Price Rite I felt the same thankfully the manager rescued me it was very nice but it shouldn’t of happened the manager should not have had to come and take care of my cake order because the bakery

Typical grocery store prices. Aisles are a little narrow but a great selection, found exactly what I needed it was clearly marked and they had a store brand which worked out rather well.

It gets five stars for convenience. Good job picking the site. I like the choices. Except the bag situation is communist. You expect your older shoppers to remember the reusable bag. Horrible but good for you.

By far one of the most expensive supermarkets... Im only giving it two stars because the girl at customer service was so sweet. 8.50 for perdue chicken nuggets...I can get them for 5 bucks at Market basket. I spent 70 on like 10 things. Never again.

They have a very small fruit and produce section.If your looking for a cookout style cut up fruit plate this is not the place,bakery not alot of choices either.The other parts of the grocery store seem to be ok.

Went in today and stopped at bakery counter to get cupcakes. I told the clerk I wanted 6, she looked at me and said they had 6 packs behind me. I didnt want those. She then looked at me again and said those are cheaper, these (the ones I wanted) were 2 dollars a piece- like I couldnt afford them or something. It was done in such a condescending tone, and on top of that she kept calling me hun. I dont appreciate being called that by anyone I dont know- especially in the service industry. Just get me what i asked for and be done. Im not your hun, and its not your place to tell me what I can afford.

Hi, the last time l visited I was charged extra on my food stamp card than what was shown on the recept.This is the second time I have noticed this. It makes me feel reluctant to come and shop with out letting you know as to what happened.I love shopping at your shop because is reasonable

The store is always clean and well stocked. The staff are well trained. Jose at the deli is wealth of info on those products and suggestions. Dave the night manager is awesome, kind and fair. I attribute the bathroom cleanliness to Joy is very nice and meticulous. The front end always seems to be great people. Darcey is the best floral person EVER!! She makes beautiful arrangements! Cant speak higher about this store. Plus a lot of local buys!

Verry good, I love that Super Market. Its the Class. One example is, they take care customers about COVID19. Every time theyre cleaning. Juste before you enter, one guy give you sanitizer. If you like also, you can serve your self. The others stores and Supermarket should take an example in Big Y. Never give up your protocol, youre saving people. Thank you!

Big Y and this location along with the former rat 20 location is the by far the best super market I have ever shopped at. They have the best fish and chips around and they have amazing food, products and great prices. It’s well worth the trip. This is the best super market in the world

Its nice to find a place where staff isnt too busy and stressed to be kind. I would imagine (and hope) its a good work environment. I would like to support that with my business.

I went to Big Y, on Mayfield street in Worcester, this morning to pick up a few things and it was PACKED. The check out line was super long, but thanks to the staff having a plan of action I was in and out in less than an hour. Big Y has made my shopping experience as smooth as possible during this pandemic. I felt safe and my cashire and bagger we very polite.

The cashier was super rude hit me nd my fiance wit a case of water on accident bcuz she was having a attitude i was buying stamps and asked for her to add them to my order she never told me she added them to my order so i kindly reminded her (after she was rude the whole time) she proceeded to get super rude i asked her y she was being so rude she told me to get over myself i am appalled that she would even say that after i was very patient nd nice to her the manager was alot kinder he apologized for her behavior

Exceptional variety of all things Asian. Frozen, fresh, and great produce abound. We loved the seafood department as well as many specialities daily.Always a challenge to find a well stocked place. This is a go to for us when we are in the area.

They charge you for grocery bags if you forget to bring your own

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Went there during Covid-19 and employees sent me to the same register as another man. Said man was holding his mask in his hand, not wearing it on his face. He got very close to me and I had to ask several times for him to step back. Terribly rude staff did nothing to enforce social distancing or mask wearing, even though it’s a MA state law. Will not be returning to this Big Y or any Big Y in the country after this experience.

Up until about 4 weeks ago I have been satisfied with the way big y market on main Street in Worcester for almost 10 years now and thought that they have been handling PPE/covid and customers following theseTthese rules. Unfortunately, the last few timesI have gone to this market, today specifically, There was no one overseeing people in line. However, there were stickers on the floor clearly showing the 6 feet apart for social distancing which is fine, but again, there was no one overseeing that customers were following appropriate social distancing. When I got to my register and waited 6 ft away from the person who was cashing out to finish and leave, I then began to unload my cart at which point people started lining up behind my cart not at all following distance protocol. Before I even cashed out and my items still on the the belt the person behind me began putting all of his groceries on the grocery belt. When he first started putting his groceries on the belt I said loud enough for this person and the cashier at register #4... isnt he supposed to wait until Im done?? At Which point she acknowledged what I said to her but she did not even have the courtesy to give me a respond nor did she ask the person behind me to stop what he was doing. And simply explain that he needs to wait. During these crazy times when going out to a store could potentially be life threatening. Managers should be constantly making sure theyre covid-19 PPE procedures are being followed at all times. I wont come back here, this was the last chance on my end. And its very disappointing to have experienced now twice that people in charge and even the cashiers or any other employee dont feel confident telling customers they need to follow the know rules. if she did that it would have made me feel better but unfortunately my experience was just another customer service fail and a reminder that not all people care to follow guidelines. I respect the socially distance rules that have been put in place for a good reason.... You guys need to step it up unfortunately and go back to how you were handling it when youre handling it well🙄

A good quality neighborhood market. Specialty is fresh seafood fried to order. Generous sized pieces of fish for the price! Popular grocery for those in the Clark University area. Prices are a bit higher compared to other grocery store chains a few miles away.

This is the second time I buy watermelon from Bigy and both times it was white and not sweet and obviously went to trash... the problem is at any other market they return it for you if it was not sweet or if there was problem but at bigy they don’t return any food :(

Best regular supermarket in town. They have a separate organic section if that is your thing. Good produce all around (way better than price chopper anyway). Could be cleaner, overall feels kinda grungy. Also checkout is always super quick and staff are helpful!

They are the best at making desserts

Big Y no longer gives you any bags to carry your items! You must pay 10 cents to buy one. The claim is they are trying to help the plant! NOT… given every item you buy is in plastic or cardboard container! So its ok for them to sell everything but not for us to carry them, and yet their own inside meat department uses Styrofoam for their own brand and packaging that is NOT recyclable! So much for saving the plant…

Service is usually fantastic here. The cashier I had ringing me up seemed annoyed that I chose her aisle to checkout at. She couldnt be bothered to acknowledge my existence or make eye contact. First time for ever having a not so great experience here.

When buying the bags have them double them they break easily,if even a little weight. Their meat is very good, but so so with fresh fish. Skin side up its old.

Seems like a nice place to shop. I just run in here every so often to grab some clear trash bags(big y is one of the only places those are available in Worcester)Its a very well kept store, clean. spacious and comfortable. It does seem to be a bit pricey though, right up there with stop and shop maybe a bit more expensive even. I wouldnt go there if your on a tight budget. But if you got plenty of money and want good quality stuff, big y is the place for you...

Best buffalo chicken tenders...and now they have a wing bar!!!! You can order a fresh batch or get a slice a pizza instead. They have good pizza as well. They are on the pricey end but the quality of their food makes up for it. Dont forget to try the chocolate croissant and award winning fresh blueberry muffin.

I LOVE THIS SUPERMARKET! Ive lived near most of the large supermarkets in Worcester at one time or another, and this Big Y is by far my favorite. The prices are good, the produce is great, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Its very rare that I have to take a run to a different supermarket to get something that they dont carry. Ive even had good luck finding the less common fresh herbs and dried spices. Two thumbs way up.

This supermarket used to be a reasonable place to shop. Dont get me wrong they still have a variety of food but gone is the monthly sales of buy one get two free deals. Now I only go there as a quick stop if I am in the area but I hardly ever purchase anything because I think they are over priced on their merchandise. It is wheelchair accessible
