The Alewerks beers weve gotten from the grocery store have been pretty good, but our visit to the taproom was disappointing. The pricing was not completely clear, and asking the staff questions felt like pulling teeth (maybe because they were drinking on the job). Possibly not their fault, but on the way home our six-pack carton broke and most of the bottles shattered
Friendly staff, tasty beers, and great atmosphere! We really enjoyed this place and will come back again the next time we’re visiting🍻😋 Friendly tip for the BBQ food truck outside though: please have a sign or advice your customers you’re out of BBQ sauce BEFORE they place their order... plain brisket is dry and ain’t so tasty without any sauce, but the food was still good.
5 stars all day, every day. Beers are delicious and the staff is spectacular.
Great beer, great service, bathrooms are also stunning, good trucks on site. Wish the kids werent playing soccer in the cornhole area. Some patrons were definetely drunk on arrival or over served.
We liked their beer and have been visiting them every time we go to Williamsburg, but this time we went on Monday Aug. 2nd, and we got a rude bartender. My husband was asking questions about their beer and wanted to sample a few before we picked a glass and we wanted to fill our growler too. She got frustrated with him because a line of 2 people was forming behind him. She gave us to another girl to wait on us and she was nice. Then later we went back in to get our growler filled, and got the same rude bartender who continued to be rude to him, even though we spent $70 and gave a $6.00 tip. I stood back and watched how she was treating my husband and I decided we would not be back! Its a shame that a worker can cause a business to lose customers!
Great beer, pretty location. In an industrial ish building with a food truck outside. Worth the visit.
Very similar in atmosphere to its neighbor Brass Cannon, this is a cool little place with about 10-12 beers on tap. All different flavors to suit anyones taste, and if you dont like those options, they have previous batches canned to sell as well. It was a little cold for outdoor seating the day I was there, our weekend was awful weather, but indoors worked fine as they have ample seating there too. staff was pleasant, beer was great, what more can you ask for? oh, food...well, there was a food truck outside! Good times.
Just stopped by while in town. Honestly some of the best beers I’ve had. While it comes down to taste I did sample 20 beers at the Busch garden bier fest and preferred ale works to a solid 11 I had there. The staff immediately greeted me and asked my preference.Even had a good truck outside for any food cravings.I do want to note the outside (Atleast when I was there) had a super nice family atmosphere. Also to anyone who goes I know tipping is a preference was Atleast tip 15% and don’t brag about hardly 8% 🤷♀️
We got a flight and EVERY. SINGLE. THING. was amazing. We tried the protocol porter, pumpkin ale, lovers greed, mainstream credentials, grand illumination, and Chesapeake pale ale in our flight. We also tried the family Christmas ale and Maizie’s ESB. All of them are delicious! My husband loves ESB’s and this one was not his favorite, but every other beer completely made up for it. The Christmas ale and lovers greed stand out as our favorites. The vibe here is chill but has a lot of life to it. The bartenders were very nice and seemed to run like clockwork. Definitely make this a destination brewery when visiting the area!
Nice experience. Was looking for the coffee stout, settled on the oyster stout. Not a suitable replacement. The sour and hazy ipas were good! Foodatude truck was there, incredible burned ends. Good service, will be back!
Alewerks is a great place to stop in and try a few beers!! Plenty of different flavors and types and numerous brews! Two locations in the Williamsburg area so always something around the corner from wherever you stay down here.
Incredible beer and super friendly staff! Been coming here with my wife for the last 3 years. If we were local (we live up in MD but visit Colonial Williamsburg a few times a year), Id probably be here at least once a week.
Always great beer, food and service! We love Alewerks!
I have been going here for years. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and the beer never disappoints. No matter your taste in beer, this place has it.
First day in the area after traveling from Ohio and got the Eagle Air Guitar. Delicious beer, light, hoppy, slight citrus. Well done and can’t wait to try more
Fantastic beer. Tried the ginger shanty, spiced stout, and tangerine ale. All fantastic with a smooth finish. Will absolutely be back again.
Good beer, and don’t pass by the Old City Barbecue truck. Great food. Relaxed atmosphere with lots of outside seating.
Im not a fan of beer but I love Aleworks! Theirs is so good. Especially love their stouts. Great, down-to-earth atmosphere with excellent staff. Trivia night is always a blast!
Really liked this brewery. Very popular spot but plenty of room inside and out. Loved the variety of beers. Food truck for eats.
Literally the nicest folks ever with you wonderful malty, dark beers. We were in town for a small family gathering after losing a relative. We couldnt (or didnt think it was safe to) meet inside. We met at Alewerks, not knowing what it was. They set us up so nicely with a heat lamp and great service. I drank the coffeehouse porter and tavern brown ale. Others also loved whatever beers they got. It was a really great experience.
LOVE alewerks. Great environment, incredible beer... but the bar tender with the glasses and bun is very rude :/
Great beers, fantastic selection, and a number of different seating settings (indoor, outdoor, garden, patio) make for a wonderful experience!
Great atmosphere drinks and the food truck that was there when I went was the old city bbq truck and they had amazing pork belly. Def worth the drive from Hampton!
The staff was nice and the atmosphere was great. The beer was good.
I love their beer, especially the porter. Simple traditional and perfectly made. As good as any Ive had. I love this place ...
Really good beer. Can still get a taste before you decide. Outside seating under a tent. Tavern Brown Ale is my go to beer.
The best pumpkin ale around.
Phenomenal brewery. Best tasting beers for miles and miles. Buy their seasonals while they last.
Great beer . We love this place. When we are at Williamsburg, This always our 1st place to go. Cheers
Great beers, good variety, and always a friendly environment. Cheers
I have been in a deep and lasting love affair with this brewery since the very beginning and I never thought to share my love about this place until I bought one of their facemasks during a recent visit.Ive missed this place terribly since I moved away a month before the pandemic began. Its been a long heartbreaking year of isolation away from everything that reminds me of home.I put this facemask on and all I can smell of the taproom. I smell home. It moved me to tears. The beer is that good here. I cant give more than 5 stars or I would.Anything on the menu, even styles Ive typically never really enjoyed, Ill try here. Its home. But now I have a facemask I cant wash. Damn it.
Service is outstanding and the beers are even better which is saying a lot... very COVID-19 friendly with over the top sanitation. Get the pretzels... So happy we stopped by.
Not good beer, great beer! Friendly, welcoming staff. Has merchandise and will let you know when more is available.
Best micro brew in hampton roads. Alewerks rotates through many seasonals and old favorites to have a different beer on tap every weekend. With the addition of the LAB you have a chance to taste even more beers at the outlets. Every beer is smooth and tasteful i dont know how they do it
Nice and relaxing. Visited Monday afternoon and staff was friendly
Either location is the best. Love the beer. Love the Employees. Being we are retired I wished they opened earlier during the week.
Great place... best beer and staff
Our happy place on Earth. Wednesday Trivia was awesome, even though we finished in 7th place...lol
Beer is good but not much for food. They just happened to have a food truck when we were there that was good.
Wonderful selection of well made beers. Do not miss if in Williamsburg.
Solid on the COVID sanitation, but I could care less about that. What I care about is the beer, and it’s top notch! And it has been for YEARS! Greatest ales in Williamsburg, and I like their niche. They get it right ALL the time. Never, ever disappointed here. Thanks, Alewerks!!!
Worst service I’ve ever had at a brewery. As a fellow brewer, most condescending and rude service I have ever had.
Pretty cool selection of beers year round, but I would say my favorite is the pumpkin ale. Its great when they have it in the fall. Its definitely a beer for people who decline all pumpkin items in the spirit of humbuggery.
We had a great time playing trivia! We will be back next week!
In town at the KOA and decided to adventure to the brewery for some beer. I went with the seasonal pumpkin 🎃 beer on draft and it was fantastic. Its a cool little Brewery well worth checking out!
Being a professional brewer (Siebel trained) myself, these folks make very nice, clean beer that isnt just the highly over used/abused IPA. I enjoy your variety. 4 🌟 for the lack of food trucks. I was hungry 😁
Love Alewerks! Great beer, awesome staff, and food trucks available!
Hubby and I tried this brewery for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. The 2 bartenders were super fun and friendly. The place was not too busy or loud. They had a food truck outside, but wed already eaten so we didnt try it. The beer we tried was good (we did a custom flight of 5 different ones, and then a full pour). Prices for a few were a little high, but others were quite low, so Id say it evens out. Well definitely be back!
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Their service is phenomenal, and the beer is SO GOOD! My husband and I are on our honeymoon, and went there for the first time earlier in the week, then again today, and they remembered us! We are going back tomorrow for lunch. I just cant say enough good things about this place! I have zero complaints.
Beer was yummo! Sanitized tables before you sit. Nice space to sit outside.
Amazing drink and great service. Very rare that me and my wife find a brewery that we like everything that we find in a flight.
Good company, good atmosphere especially on vinyl night, and great beer!
Great beer. Plenty of outdoor seating and a large tent.
Fantastic beer in a great atmosphere! Staff is super friendly and helpful, we visited both the original brewery as well as the tasting room in the outlet mall and had a great experience both placed! Highly recommend if you are visiting the area and enjoy craft beer.
Theres an awesome area outside now, open area with tables and a big tent as well. Theyre doing a great job handling the pandemic, and, more importantly, their beers are killer!
I struggled to find what their tour included on their website is the only reason I gave them four stars. The beer was excellent if youre a fan of beer. If you sign up for the brewery tour online, it entails a trip into their brewery which is the size of a large warehouse. Its not much of a tour, but they do provide around 10 different beers for you to taste while standing in the brewery.
The bartender was rude and refused to serve me based on my disability.
Nice place good beer. Flaming pie was there. Very good
Excellent Brewery, loved the Irish ale
The beer is awesome. Service was great. Really sticking to the rules during covid
Of the 8 beers that you can only get at the brewery, 7 of them were amazing and 1 of them was ok. I will be back often
Loved their Saving Daylight
We came here for a comedy show that they held. It was a fun experience! The beer was great and the staff was friendly. Only downside is that the food truck was gone pretty fast. It would have been nice to get food after a few brews. But overall, I would definitely come again!
Taco food truck outside wonderful, and great beer as well
Nice and welcoming place.
Great spot, super helpful staff and they are all over cleaning and COVID mitigations. Thank you!
Cool vibe. Chill atmosphere. Great Pumpkin Ale!
Great customer service. Awesome beer. Plus the atmosphere of locals and tourists sharing the experience is great. The Tavern Ale is beastly good!!!!!
A great brewery, and a great place to hangout. If youre interested in just have a beer and relaxing thats perfect. Prefer to grab a bite to eat, then youll usually be in luck since they often times a food truck right outside ready to serve. They have plenty of options for drinking, eating, and games to play.
Look man, the beer was good but it took a while to get it. I asked about the other local breweries in the area and they didn’t have anything nice to say. It the first brewery I’ve been to where they talk smack on their fellow breweries. I’m in Williamsburg often but will probably just go to another place from now on. The service and mean staff turned me off. Just be nice!
Good beer but on weekends they should cater more food
It is always great. Today we each had a different beer and all were happy. The weekend lager with cranberry was great. The Imperial Stout is a must have!
Great brewery. Tried their new release, Black Forest Imperial Stout. This is a worthy addition to their historic lineup of dark beers. A huge mouthful of dark rich BEER. Lots of the barrel in it. A few of these will have to go home with me.
Great staff, awesome beer. Super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is perfect for an afternoon hangout with or with kids.
Cant remember the girls name, but she gave us the tasting/tour (not really a tour but not sure what else to call it). Great job-she really knew her stuff! Very informative history of not only Alewerks but also beer itself. I wish they shipped their beers to Tennessee!
The food truck was great! We will definitely find Nosh again at another brewery! There was a “ticketed event” (which my husband and I were unaware of) the night we went. There were no signs to tell us there was a special event. We were on our way home after a long day and wanted a quick dinner & a beer, so we could get home and relax. We stopped at the food truck first and ordered our food. When we went inside to grab two beers we were asked if we had tickets, we did not and they told us we had to go. We had already spent $25 on food. I told them we had already ordered food and just wanted a beer to drink with dinner on the patio and we needed to get home. Now, there are ways to deal with folks who don’t fit your evening’s events. The manager COULD have said, “Hey, we’re having a band play tonight, would you like to grab one beer, but if you want to stay longer you’ll need to buy a ticket.” Nope, they were fine with us taking our food & sitting in our car and eating. I’m not one to be slighted, so I went back in and asked, “You’re seriously not going to let us grab a beer to drink with our dinner for which we’ve already dropped $25?” If we had not already ordered our food we would have just gone and gotten dinner somewhere else. The manager begrudgingly obliged. But get this, Mr. Unaccommodating Anus in Knot rushes behind the counter to tell the barkeep to make sure to close out our tab (you know the one that didn’t exist in the first place). We won’t be back. Their beer is average yet over priced & their customer service was horrible. The only thing they had going for them was the food truck parked outside.
Alewerks is a super fun place with great local beer. Their selection and knowledgeable staff is unrivaled. Even though the homemade soft pretzel is the only food item.on the menu, it is all you need. So yummy. Alewerks is an amazing example of down to earth cool southern hospitality.
Super friendly staff. Excellent service and great beer. Definitely will be back.
Great beer & great atmosphere. Staff is amazing. If I lived here I would definitely be a regular.
Quick service and friendly staff !
On a clear, sunny Sunday evening we selected and sipped the tasty brewskis. Its an upbeat atmosphere, family friendly, with a chipper staff. Worthy of a visit for any who appreciates a good brew.
