I had a Von Maur card for over 15 years and my auto-pay declined one time and they closed my account. I said then (5 ish years ago) Id never go back. Today I thought Id give them another shot. Picked out $100+ in school clothes for my son and found a register to pay. I was waiting quietly, checking notifications on my phone. The lady wrapping gifts asked if Id been helped and I said I was waiting to check out. She said there are lots of registers on the sales floor. I said they were busy or no one at them, which is why I came here. She said they are probably helping other people. I said I know, thats why I came here, is it ok that I pay here? She said there are many places you can pay. If my son wasnt with me I would have put everything down and walled out. It is guaranteed Von Maur will never get another dime from me.

This particular location has of the best (if not THE best) shoe selections in the Midwest, and that’s not even an exaggeration. Been shopping here since I had my first job in high school and could finally buy my own stuff! The associates are always helpful and pleasant but not pushy.The interest-free, low-limit credit card is also an amazing perk. It taught me how to properly use credit from a young age (17 years old). And more than 10 years later it is still my oldest line of credit.Von Maur is by far the best department store available and it continues to stand the test of time. And this location is particularly top-notch.

Followed relentlessly by asset protection associate for no reason, then lied to and dismissed by an employee when I told her what I was experiencing while I was trying to shop. Ive shopped at Von Maur for 18 years and wont be back.

Got my prom dress here a few years ago and they did alterations for free and very quickly.

This is a flagship store in its West Des Moines location. Valley West Mall has seen a huge downturn in sales and traffic over recent years in businesses, and many stores folded or left. Von Maur helps so far to keep the traffic up in the mall somewhat, which is scheduled to have a big overhaul in the future.If you are not familiar with Von Maur it has everything from clothing and accesories to furniture and household goods. If you are used to shopping at discount outlet or warehouse stores you will have some sticker shock in store for you when you visit this nice store. It is very clean and nicely laid out inside. The various departments are very well staffed and finished, and full of all kinds of options in every imaginable department. I would compare the prices I see to what I know about Macys, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and similar stores that sell quality clothing, and a wide variety of household things at upper middle to high price ranges. For the most part, the quality is there for sure, but as I said, if you are used to buying various brands online or in discount clothing and outlet stores, (especially Amazon for many things) youll see much higher prices for identical or similar things.I wish this store well. I did not really need anything when I visited, but I did plenty of looking. The main thought I had when I was there was I know I can get that same item for 20-40% less if I go online and look. Some people simply hate to shop online for any item. I am not one of them, as long as they have a good return policy. I wish this store well, but I will continue to buy online and save some money.

Highly recommend. Definitely a go to store for quality and service. Definitely a much needed store in this area.

I dont know how this place stays open. This store is real stuffy and the employees are rude. Our only interest is you motto is far from true. The employees talk about customers behind their back. Skip the trip and shop online or at Dillards and save money.

Unfortunately, Von Maur is quickly becoming just an average retailer.I took a number of suit pants in to have the waist/seat let out (yes, Ive added the Covid 10+). We had called ahead to confirm they do not charge for this if the suits were purchased at VM (they were). Its what we were told at the time we purchased them and the person we talked to confirmed it was true.Well... then we arrived. First, the older men working in the mens department obviously havent received any training on proper/improper comments while doing fittings. Fortunately, I not too wound up about the weight Ive gained as there were several oh wow and similar comments about how much would need to be let out. Offensive to say the least and my wife was doing all she could not to come unglued on them.Then I was informed the cost would be $30+ PER ITEM. I asked to speak with a manager. She offered to cut the fee to $15 but nothing more. I asked about their long-term policy (as its always been explained to me) that they offered alterations as long as I owned the suits. She waffled between that has never been their policy and theyve had to make some tough decisions following Covid. I never could get a clear answer as to which was the case. I told her that a change in policy is great, but that shouldnt impact those whove already made purchases. Its like a car dealer deciding that a new warranty period should apply to all the cars theyd previously sold.Bottom line... VERY poor customer service AND not willing to stand behind the support they promised at purchase (or on the phone prior to coming in). This isnt the Von Maur weve enjoyed in the past and in my opinion no longer warrants the premium one pays for purchases at the store. If they want to have policies and customer service like everyone else, then their prices should reflect it.

Best atmosphere of any department store you will find anywhere. When you walk in you immediately feel like you have money (but this is America so most of us dont) and unlike most other stores, there is always staff there to help you and they know what theyre talking about. Class, class, class.

Always enjoy shopping in this store, beautiful decorations and relaxing piano music. Just went there recently with a friend and I have to say the lady in Estee Lauder cosmetics exceeded my expectation! Her name is Cheenee Perkins. She is very friendly and helpful. Im in love with new lipstick colors she recommended to me. Feel so beautiful and confident with these colors on!!! Definitely recommend her to anyone needs good advice on makeup.

Full service, higher end for this area, department store. Actual salespeople, quality brands, pleasant music, cool calm atmosphere; even has places to sit. Only reason I didnt give five stars is that you have to be prepared for full prices, but that goes along with the quality.

Its my favorite store in the world. The merchandise is beautiful. The salespeople are more like hosts than employees. The piano music makes you feel like youre in a movie. The perks are many: interest free credit card, free/low cost alterations, free shipping, free gift wrapping and great sales.

Great place to find gifts. Penny was the best store associate ever! She was friendly and very helpful. Because of her and her great customer service, I will be back to shop again. Thank you, Penny, and Merry Christmas!

Shopped here for 30 years....always paid on time. Always world class service. The way they treated their creditors during covid was HORRIBLE! Totally against attorney generals advice. They unfortunately have lost my business...

Went to the store with my wife. The staff is extremely helpful and a step above most department stores. The product selection is top notch and high quality.They didnt have what my wife needed in her size so they arranged for it to be delivered to our home. It came with a personalized thank you note which was a nice touch.

Love this store! And their sale racks have a wide selection in assorted sizes. The only improvement I suggest is deeper discounts on the clearance rack and specially the shoe sale room!

Wasnt acknowledged by anyone in the whole entire store. With the exception of the mens dept and formal dresses, I was everywhere.

Von Maur has a decent selection of high quality brands. If youre looking for a cheap pair of jeans or shoes you would be advised to go to elsewhere. However, they do have sales and their staff is helpful and knowledgeable. You will find brands here that the other department stores do not carry. Overall I would definitely recommend Von Maur to those that want to combine high quality merchandise with excellent customer service. As they say, you get what you pay for, and that is the case here.

We love this store. It is one of the most beautiful places to shop and the clearance racks are the best in town! We love just being in this store and the extra extra special touch of a musician always playing the grand piano in the middle of the store.

Higher end clothing. Mostly marked up Chinese made garments.

Simply delightful atmosphere. There is a skilled pianist who plays on the lower level. Store clerks are happy to serve. Perfumists greet you with a smile. Lots of designer and luxury brand clothing lines are sold there

Great customer service

This is truly a destination place to visit. People drive 4 hours from all around Iowa and Illinois to visit the Von Maur stores. Its great that they are expanding outside of the Midwest into the South. Amazing quality items, clothing, shoes, gifts and more. Yes, some of the items are highly priced, but look for the racks that have markdowns you can find amazing deals there! You must visit, and if its the holiday season youll be amazed at the incredible decorations. Youll be glad you visited.

This rating is for the quality of girls merchandise in the younger age range. I was extremely disappointed in the variety, especially accessories and those more unique things I would expect to find in a Von Maur store. Almost everything has a unicorn on it. While I understand that is the trend, most items I saw today look like things I would see at Walmart only priced twice as much. Not everyone is on the unicorn train!

The clothing here is of a high quality and a high price. Ive found its usually worth it though. The piano music is also nice to listen to and my son likes to dance along. Good service as well.

A great place to buy high end items. Very clean and easy to get to.lots of parking with handicapped parking spaces also. Very helpful staff. They have just about everything you need if you have a special outing and need that special outfit!

I went there to buy some cosmetics products. Got a lot of useful advice from Cheenee Perkins in Estee Lauder section. She is very friendly, patient and knowledgeable about cosmetics and quite good with makeup. She helped me figure out good foundation tone and lipstick colors for my skin type. I received plenty of compliment with the new lipsticks I have on. Ask for her and she will make your visit extra special!!!!

Shopped for a gift for my Friends birthday. Found a gift and card ...went to check out and was told VMs gift wrap no longer available. I was so disappointed I left the store, making no purchases. Over many years I always relied on Von Maurs for beautifully wrapped gifts ... and of course womens clothing and shoes. THANK you for being there all those years. Von Maurs was always special.

Still one of THE best places to shop in this city. Had at minimum 5 people ask if I needed anything and they were so pleasant about it. Not pushy just nice. Definitely worth a visit if youre new to Von Maur.

I enjoyed my trip here, the ladies that worked here were all very helpful. The lady (didnt catch her name) was very helpful, as Ive never bought jewelry for a significant other before. The complimentary gift wrapping took a bit longer than expected, but good god. The present wrappers must be professionals. My gift looked like a master wrapper had wrapped it. The music was very calming, there was a women playing the piano. I like this store a lot!

I love to just shop here. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I dont. Great quality and helpful sales people, except for shoes. The sales staff there can be a little punchy about things. Every other department is super, though.

I always enjoy shopping at Von Maur. The atmosphere is always pleasant. The workers are attentive, but not intrusive. I love the pianist playing in the background. The best gift wrapping in town.
