Went to tune up my bike and fix a flat. It took them two weeks. However they returned my bike minus a part that came originally with it. And I had to buy the tube and supply it. Terrible service. There are much better service providers in the area.Updated:Just got a dismissive response from the business.First of all: Thank you for clarifying the time it took and what you did, and for correcting my inaccurate original statement above. The marvels of record keeping!!As for the missing part: You replaced a flat tire and threw away the old part. Great. Hope you recycle. However, I m not referring to that. When I take my car to replace a tire I expect it to be returned with lights, windshield wipers, and any other part as simple as it might be. You did not do that. Photos show the missing part. As simple and irrelevant as that part might be, you kept it and it was not part of the job.For those who in the unlikely event read this, just make sure you verify that when you take your property to this business it is returned complete.

I brought my bike to be serviced at ElectricCityBikes twice in the past 6 months or so. First time, I was told they needed to cut a piece of the back wheel fender for safety reasons. I asked to replace the fender and the person who called me told me they would need to order a new fender first. They never did. I brought the bike back in mid June and again asked to replace the fender and the chain guard. I was told it will take a while to get the pieces, which was ok with me as I was going out of town. We agreed I will pick up the bike in early September when I would return to DC. In August I get a text that the bike is ready for pick up or I would need to pay $6 a day if I don’t. I specifically asked them to confirm that they replaced the chain guard and the fender. They responded that they did, and the bike is ready to be picked up. I had to ask a friend to get the bike, which would have been ok if the bike would have been fixed. However, they did not replace neither the fender nor the chain guard. I have no idea if they did anything else on that work order (except for the flat tire which is easy to check) or also lied. Someone else promised (by text) to take care of the problem. Then he disappeared. No responses to follow up texts. I have no confidence at all left in this shop. Very disappointing.

Great service and communication! Very friendly staff who are determined to meet your bicycle needs. We have purchased two bikes from their various locations and we are very satisfied with the models that were available. Greatly appreciated the time and freedom they allowed us test out the products before purchase. The stores provide all sorts of add ons which they installed in a promptly time frame. The ability to text the staff allowed for quicker communication and I was surprised to have my bike serviced the same day I dropped it off. Strongly recommend to any other biking fans in the NW DC area. 👍👍👍

Had a 5 year journey to learn ins and outs of cycling with electric… I went here a year ago to look around after going to a MD suburban shop with unfriendly customer service…Electric City Bikes…. Is Honest and Genuine and Matter of Fact regarding the jump to an electric bike purchase. I wasn’t going to purchase at that time… was still absorbing info…. but I realized that from testing 4 bikes I found the best one for my needs and have been extremely Happy with the purchase plus have received excellent follow up with the store even with the complications COVID brought to the table. It helped that they’re very realistic about expectations and no hard sell…. I asked a million questions and needed some hand holding because it’s a major purchase…I recommend doing some online research to learn about types of batteries and throttle versus pedal assist. If someone tells you there’s not a lot of difference between electric bikes they’re wrong…. So much depends on your abilities and use. If you decide on pedal assist this is the bike shop to go to for quality and service….Best of Luck riding….

The team at ElectriCity Bikes were great! I was able to work with them from out of town to order a new R&M Roadster and they had it ready to go when I arrived in the Washington, D.C. area recently. They took the time to show me how everything works and even downloaded maps to the Nyon unit to get me where I needed to go from the shop. The guys were very helpful and pleasant to work with. The bike has been great as well - everything I was hoping for. If you’re interested in an e-bike, you won’t be disappointed with the team at ElectriCity Bikes.

I spoke with first Jeff and then Paul over the phone. Both were extremely helpful and gave me lots of information to guide my thinking on E-bikes. Im new to these, and I last rode a bicycle (Nishiki10-gear, then Trek hybrid) years ago. Because of recent physical constraints, I believe e-bikes could be the way for me to stay active more consistently. I plan to go in to try out a couple of Riese and Mueller models as well as the Specialized Vado 5.0. Meanwhile, it just seems right to note that the attention over the phone is personal, good, and sufficiently in depth for any reasonable person.

I can be quite the complicated customer, and this bike shop really addressed all of my issues in any way they could. I purchased a Specialized Vado 5.0 (very expensive bike) and I am so soooo happy with it. Honestly, it has been the best purchase I’ve made in a long while. The staff is very knowledgeable, and I couldn’t even believe they figured out an ebike that would work for me. I live on the second floor in a condo building with no elevator, so weight is a very important factor. I can carry this Vado upstairs with no issues. They even have loaner bikes you can borrow when you have to bring your bike in for service. Really exceptional shop. Especially considering the demand for bikes and bike services in dc.

I know there is a Pandemic, but come on. I spoke to someone named Paul a few weeks back and we reviewed some items. I am now trying to place an order for $800-$1,000 worth of upgrades on my bike and dont answer any of the phones. Makes me wonder how I could ever get in touch with them if I did order and there was an issue. No excuse to not answer phones for days - you just end up in a loop. Left a message too, no response.

I would not recommend this shop if you are in the NOVA area. The shop is very nice and they carry a wide array of high end electric bicycles, one of which I purchased. While I am very happy with the purchase, getting it serviced is another story. The bicycle I purchased was a Ries and Muller Charger 3, a very expensive bike made in Germany. The bike had a couple of small problems with assembly, but nothing detrimental to the quality of the ride. One such problem was a brake cable that looks to have been routed inside the fender, which rubbed on the spokes within the first few minutes I rode it. I was told to pull the cable up in an email, which of course I did, but it continued to fall and hit the spokes. The routing should have obviously been on the outside of the fork but I chose to use a tie wrap to secure it for the time being. Another issue was the mirror was installed with only 3 of the 4 plates required to wedge it inside the handlebars, so I took it off, also for the time being. At 100 miles, I was getting a message that it was time for service, and called them about it. The guy on the phone told me to bring it in and theyd take a look. He didnt seem to know why it was giving me this message. I had to drive 20 miles, across DC to get it to them, but I assumed they would take care of it while I wait. Keep in mind, this isnt a $200 Huffy, this is a $10,000 vehicle that I actually sold a Ducati Scrambler I owned, just to offset the high cost (which I would add was worth it). I assumed that because I wasnt told there would be a 3 day lead time, that I would be in and out while I waited. It turned out, that the shop provides a 100 mile service for free on all R&M bicycles, where they go over it, and make sure everything is holding up ok. My guess, is that for the service part, it would have taken 15 minutes to go over it and supress the alarm. Sadly, they wanted the bike for a few days, and I would not have been able to pick it up during the week to get it, and would have had to wait until the following Saturday to get it. This is because it would take 2 hours to get across town on a work night, after work and I would not have been able to get there before the shop closed. I needed the bike done ASAP because I had plans to take it camping. Had I been told about the service and how irrelevant it actually was initially, I would have continued to ride it and just made an appointment. NO BIG DEAL. We discussed just that and I tossed around the idea of just taking it home and bringing it back and the manager said they would have it done on Sunday. I agreed to leave it (it was Friday), and called Sunday morning. When I called back on Sunday to arrange pickup, I was told that it would not be done until Monday. I reminded them that we had agreed that it would be completed today (Sunday) and that I made plans based on the decision to leave the bike behind on Friday. I was then told that the technician was by himself and could not get to it. I didnt say it, but I was thinking to myself that this really isnt a me problem, they had an obligation to meet and somehow the technicians schedule trumped my own, despite a pact to complete it. I reminded the fellow that I would have made an appointment had I known all of this. He said that they shop does not make appointments. I disagree however as the sign clearly states that they do, for both sales and service. Further more, if a technician called in sick, the shop has several other facilities in the DC area that could have pitched in to ensure their obligation was met with Me.I would deter anyone from purchasing one of these bikes from these folks if they arent in the DC proper. There is a good chance if you need it serviced, youll run into scheduling issues getting it serviced if you have to find your way into DC after work hours, and the folks there are just fine with that from my experience.

I needed a rear 27.5 wheel with 2“ tire for my 700c hybrid bike to convert it to off-road. They were very patient with me and even though the tire barely fit, they helped to tune spikes on the rim and try different size tires to make sure I get widest tire possible. In the end I got tire and was able to ride in MoCo Epic. The bike did awesome. Thank you very much. I was constantly busting original 700c rim with 40mm tire, getting flats and bending rim. With new 27.5 rim and 2“ tire it works perfect.

At least three staff people came to ask questions while waiting in line. But the other customer was probably most helpful. Nothing under $2k and wifi painfully slow that couldnt even browse online while waiting likely an hour for 5 minutes or so of a second sales persons time. I really just wanted to look /browse they called it (and we dont do that according to one of the three) and tried to eliminate the people in line. The couple behind me had gone away and came back, only to have to wait again. Black (nitrile?) Gloves 🧤 were required (mask I had brought) and provided but Id wait until going thru the security door first as sweating.

Let me share my experience and I am happy to have the owner give me a call back directly. I bought my electric bike in 2018 at another national dealer that went out of business about 3 months after I got my bike. Around the same time the motor died (come to find out from another shop it is a known issue on a bad batch of motors). The manufacturer gave me a list of shops and I took it to ElecticCity Bikes. Right off the bat, they wanted to charge me $160/hr to look at it. I got the manufacturer involved and explained the situation and they covered the labor. Contacting the manufacturer is something the bike shop could have (SHOULD HAVE) done - but I was okay with doing their job for them. I also asked the shop to tune it up and paid $160 for that extra cost. When I got it back, I had difficulty pedaling the bike. The shop staff said the rear hub was over tightened and needed adjustment. I asked why they didnt catch that in the tune up. He said they dont road test the bikes in a tune up??? So my first impression is this shop has a lot of inventory which is great, they have a great location, but their customer service is mediocre AT Best, their service is below par and if that is not enough to convince you - their service rates are MORE THAN TWICE what other shops are charging. Learn from me and do yourself a favor to at least shop around. Since then, I had great service going to Electric Cycling House in Bethesda - Thomas is honest, knowledgeable and thorough. Im personally sticking with them.

Though I didnt buy my Specialized Creo SL Comp from ElectriCityBikes (ECB) I called them because I saw a review they posted and had a question. Their video review suggested a type of product that my local bicycle shop said cant be placed on my bicycle. However, according to the video, it not only can be placed but ECB knew the best way and product to do it with. They give me enthusiastic and accurate help but, though I expressed hesitancy in asking more questions, questions that Specialized themselves didnt seem able to answer, ECB insisted on tackling as many questions as I had (!). Note, I live in another state and never bought anything from them previously. The answers ECB gave were on point, very helpful, detailed, knowledgeable, illuminating and done with the kind of feeling only those who love helping others can exhibit.I never got the feeling that the ECB person was growing impatient, at all. In fact, when the call ended, at least 25 minutes later, they suggested I call again if I had any more questions, not to mention that I was sent, via email, a link for a product that was apropos to my original question.I fully intend to visit ECB when Im in Washington D.C. (I have a sister-in-law there) and, after my experience on the phone, can hardly wait!

I was hoping to keep it going (already 3k miles on it), but the frame was never precisely manufactured in the first place and the workarounds it was sold with had lost their effectiveness. Chad and his team were careful and patient and never gave up, even when it looked like nothing could be done. They were friendly and supportive, figured out a solution involving a different kind of washer, and got me safely back on the road drag-free within an hour.

Very disappointed when i traveled across the city yesterday to shop for an electric bike here. The owner, Charlie, had assured me twice and eagerly over the phone a week earlier that i needed no appointment to stop by and test ride/discuss different models with him or another seasoned sales staff named Chad. In reality, neither were there May 3 and the most i could accomplish was to talk to a VERY uncooperative and testy bike mechanic who insisted i return another day to talk to a sales professional. Considering this man would be servicing my future $3000 electric bike if i were to buy here, ive decided to look for a bike dealership where reliability and team work is taken seriously.
