Although the response was a little slower than I was expecting, I got my bike just 3 days after I ordered online. The employees were very kind and helpful. I am very pleased with my purchase.
Walked by this shop and saw they weren’t busy. Dropped in since I had a few spare minutes between appointments. I explained that my wife’s Catrike had lost a rear fender mount bolt. I had no idea the size, but he guessed correctly. He refused to let me pay for the couple of bolts he gave me. Nice guy. I’d come back here just to deal with someone who knows how to take care of people.
Update: After threatening to involve the police, a refund was finally issued. This came after numerous emails with the owner and a frustrating few weeks. I want to note that the owner initially attempted a conditional refund (according to my bank). The refund appeared on my bank account, but set in limbo without my ability to access it until the owner processed it fully. Terrible experience overall. Proceed with caution, or better yet, run the other way.I do not recommend purchasing a bicycle from the Big Wheel Bikes website. My experience is as follows:- Around 2 weeks ago, made a purchase of a bike that was listed as in-stock on their website.- I never received an email confirmation of my purchase, however my credit card was charged.- I called on the Big Wheel Bike shops to ask for help with my order and to make sure everything went through ok. The employee mentioned that the owner of the shop handles all of the internet orders and gave me an email and phone number to the owner, Mike.- I called and left a message inquiring about my order. I received a call back several hours later by a person that seemed confused about my order, then told me he would call me back. He never called back.- I sent an email to the address given to my by the employee mentioned above. After several hours, I received an email reply that the bike was out of stock and asked if I would like to cancel my order, which I did.- Over a week later, the charge had not been refunded. I emailed the owner again to inquire about the refund. He said he issued a refund, and he would double check it. No further response, no refund.- Nearly two weeks later. I just sent the last email to the owner asking for the refund. No reply as of yet. This is terrible customer service. I cant speak for the in-shop experience, but ordering from the website has made around $1000 more poor with resolution in sight.
I ordered a bike at the beginning of the pandemic (early 2020) knowing that it was going to be heavily delayed due to shipping issues. The bike never came and despite multiple follow-ups and promises (in-person visits to the Georgetown and Falls Church shops, multiple emails, and even a phone call with the owner), I was never given a refund. Last follow up was an email by a store employee *to the owner*, August 2021; no word back.Incredibly unprofessional, dishonest, and rude. Does this not amount to thievery?
Outstanding customer service! I got a flat on the C&O Canal and could not find the leak in my tube. Walked my bike up to their shop, Ilya and Dillon had other customers in the store, but still worked with me right away to replace my tube. Thanks again! Would recommend them to anyone!
Flat tire in the middle of my ride, walked in, they replaced the flat in about 10 minutes at a very reasonable price.
Really enjoyed renting here. TJ was friendly and helpful!
These guys were the real deal, I didnt have a big problem just needed some tweaks etc… they took me as a walk in which Is rare out there in the world these days especially in DCand they had plenty on their plate but still took time helped me with the tweaks super quick and got me back out as soon as they could.didn’t try to over sell me on anything just really good people who saw they could help and choose to and for a really fair price. I mean really! For Georgetown!Instead of these Bougie stores trying to push new hybrid brand-name bikes that break in the rain And don’t care about the every day cyclist, they just want to capitalize on the bike shortage and up charge you and make you commit to service charges instead of teaching you about personal Bike Care(LIKE CONTE! Don’t go there 🤮)These guys were the best in the City.
This business really takes care of their customers!! They provide helmet, bike locks, water bottle carriers, and multiple models of bikes to choose from. The employees are wonderful and are helpful in directing you where to go to find trails and special locations. I feel this is the best method of rental for enjoying a ride in the city of DC.
Needed to have a wheel trued when mine unexpectedly was not. They were great. Quick to help, and to laugh. Would definitely stop by again.
Customer service was poor. The associates were not helpful and quiet rude. It was pulling teeth toget assistance. Would not recommend.
Loyal customer here! Every time Ive been, Ilya has both fixed my bike and answered all of my dumb questions. Got my helmet here, got my bike lights here, they dont hesitate to rec products they dont necessarily stock, but buying from them is worth the premium. Fast and reliable service, patient staff, quality goods. Will keep coming back (sorry)
Nick provided prompt, friendly, and efficient service. Will definitely come back!
Staff was friendly and helpful. Rentals were high quality and inexpensive.
Just walked in looking for a new bike. Ilya and the other guy we’re really helpful! We will be back for sure.
Got a flat on a Saturday afternoon, so I stopped by and they fixed it within minutes and got me back on the road. Dinging them one star because multiple people (customers and staff, it seemed) were maskless and talking loudly inside the stuffy, seemingly poorly ventilated store. I felt uncomfortable during the pandemic with this.
A friend recommended this place claiming that they had a great service experience. Ive tried to reach a human being at this location for two days. No one picked up the phone and no one answered my email inquiry. Its clear why other bike shops in DC have an entire Google point rating advantage over this particular shop.
Eric was great! He was beyond helpful and patient. Answered all my questions and ensured I was able to get the right bike for my size and need. I highly recommended coming here for great service and multiple selections
2 out of 5 times I come to this place I get great service and really kind folks. 3 out of 5 times they are closed when their hours say they’re open or I have to work with this one person there who is reliably condescending. Good prices, quick service, but the experience is never the same each time I go there.
Great place, Ilya is incredibly knowledgeable and also very funny. Big wheel has always been able to answer my questions.
Short notice, arriving to town today and heading out tomorrow. He was able to adjust gears and send me on my way. Thanks.
This bike shop quite frankly is the best in the city. To start with, the staff are fantastic. Ted and Nick are both very friendly and gave me very good tips as to where to go for a cheeky cycle. The shop is perfectly located in Georgetown and they’ve got a wide selection of bikes. Price is reasonable and seamless when it comes to renting out and returning. Compared to the city’s bike share, you’ll have the luxury of locking the bike whenever and wherever. (I also rented out a bike share and it took me nearly an hour to just look for a bike station to return it and I ended up getting on a bus to return to our rented apartment in Georgetown). Will rent from them again the next time in the city. All the best!
Have bought several bikes from this shop, specifically from Ilya—very candid, kind, and patient customer service.Have recommended friends and family to this shop and look forward to continued patronage while in DC.
Mike is the man! He knows more about bikes than anyone I have ever met. If you are looking for a great bike and the expertise of bike maven, I would highly recommend Big Wheels.
As a novice rider I went there to buy a used bike. Arrived right when they opened up on a Saturday and was warmly welcomed (at other stores I tend to notice annoyed vibes when you shop first thing). The associate, Nick, helped me navigate through the bikes and I walked out there as a happy customer and with a new bike. Give Nick a raise!
We had an excellent experience with Big Wheel. We rented bikes for my husband and me and for our kids from this store. The selection was quite impressive and the quality was also top notch. We love to visit cities and rent bikes when we get there . This was one of the best experiences that we have had. I highly recommend Big Wheel for anyone in the market for bike rentals.
I never actually went there but was pretty surprised at the attitude i got over the phone from these people. I guess I am used to bike shops being full of friendly employees who love to talk about bikes and love to help answer questions about bikes and biking. I called a couple times to try to arrange a rental and it was like pulling teeth to get yes/no answers to my questions (i wanted to know what the C&O path is like because I was visiting from out of town and wanted to know whether I should get a road bike or a mountain bike. For future reference you do not want a road bike as it is a bumpy gravel trail). Also their website has the wrong hours (which is one reason why I couldnt make it there in person--I reserved a rental online but then it turns out theyre closed at the time I needed to pick it up). When I mentioned this to the employee on the phone he did not care at all.
I called all the shops in DC trying to find one to help me get my bike home after riding the CAP & C&O from Pittsburgh. These guys were by far the coolest and most helpful. They were super responsive and friendly all the way through the process of getting my bike packed up and shipped out. I cant thank them enough. Highly recommended.
I see the reviews are mixed which I dont understand at all. We had a great experience. We brought our kid and they had a bike ready for us with a child seat. Bikes were clean as can be and the service was quite good. We will definitely go back here when we are town. Kudos to Big Wheel.
Great place if you want affordable rental! Be quick, this place is very busy in the morning. Its not uncommon for all 30 or so rental bikes to be gone by 11am. Be patient as store is very popular.
So amazing, so yellow, so bicycle! Will surely be back day after day.
Great place - super helpful, super friendly, super uncomplicated. Bikes were great (way better than ours at home). Definitely recommandable - best way to experience Washington DC is by bike. Best place to rent a bike is at Big Wheel Bikes!
Im at the shop almost every day and I can tell you its good to the last drop.
Caught a flat, got there 15 minutes before closing and they knocked it right out. Excellent service
This shop is super amazing in an out process. The workers Sean and Ted are just super amazing great conversation. I really recommend your bring your mom and kids for great bike ride an repair.
We rented good quality, clean bikes. Pat was helpful. Will definitely come back for future bike rentals. May even buy a bike from Big Wheel. They know what they are doing.
Bikes were clean and of high-quality. It was busy when we got there because it’s a popular place, but the wait turned out to be quite short as they are very efficient. We only waited about 10 minutes and then we were outfitted with bikes and ready to go for our afternoon excursion. Back three hours later and the price was right!
Please update your operating hours on google.
Even if you make a reservation they will try to hook you the crappiest bike possible. We made a reservation and paid up front for a mountain bike to visit the parks around DC, and they tried to give us a city bike arguing that they only had those. It is not a tourist friendly place, for not native English speakers they not make any effort to talk clear. Unfortunately the bike rental offer in DC is reduced making them confident that even with this kind of service they will get clients. Next time I prefer to travel with mi bike.
We arrived when they opened. The bikes were a bit dirty, but nothing compared to how they looked when we delivered them back.Note that many bikes dont have mudguards, so Tak a moment to consider where you to ride and in what sort of clothes. The bikes worked fine, but could be kept in better condition. Minimum price is 25$ where the Capital bikes are 2$ pr 30 minutes.
Really great guys working here. Awesome service. I came in to see about getting a tune up, with very little knowledge about what I actually needed done on my bike and they helped me out big time.
This place is terrible. The website advertises rental bikes with a child seat. We went to the first location (Georgetown) and was told they don’t have any, we then went to the Arlington location and were told we had to reserve one Nowhere does it say that and the customer service individual just mumbled a bunch of stuff and said he wouldn’t set one up. 2 bikes 4 people-including a 21 month old, and stuck in Arlington with nothing to do. Don’t waste your money or time with them.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. I was in and out in twenty minutes with a new chain on my bike.
We rented from Big Wheel and were impressed. The bikes were great--clean and working well. I will definitely return next time I am in the capital.
Pro: bikes worked out good - made it to Mt Vernon and back. Locks and good helmets were provided.Con: no fix kit, no tools, no pumps, no pick up service if something were to break along the way. Youd be stranded if you had a flat. Bikes could be cleaner. Chain skipped on hills on my bike - may be time to put on a new one.
Oh man. I couldnt wait to review these guys. My bike had been having problems for ONE YEAR. I swear I was about to get rid of it but I had paid a lot for it and it wasnt very old. Finally I discovered Big Wheel and brought the bike in. The owner Mike was there and he took a personal interest in the situation. They kept the bike for 3 days and when I got it back it was FIXED! I am stunned and relieved and very impressed with this operation. I am not quite sure what they did, although they did try to explain it to me (mechanics is not my specialty). Whatever it was the bike works really well and I am a happy and now loyal customer. Thanks, Big Wheel!
Very nice and helpful staff! Had some parts gone missing on my bike and stopped by to get them replaced. The guy at the store was very helpful and made sure all the parts fit correctly. Thanks!
Really convenient! I had a flat tire and it was repaired immediately! Id definitely go there again! Thanks!
Ive been here before to fix flats, but too I had to get a new wheel for my bike! Completely un-rideable I was a bit frazzled and nervous about how much the repair would set me back. Ted was great. He showed me the issue (but not in a condescending way), explained my options for wheels (was super honest about the pros/cons), and replaced it in less than 40 minutes. Its always nice to find a friendly bike shop in the neighborhood. Thank so much, Big Wheel Bikes and Ted. Im also listening to Daily Bread right now...thanks for that recommendation :)
Ive had 2 distinct experiences at this shop. The first experience, to fix a flat tire, was ok. The second experience, for another flat tire horrible. I have an e-bike that needed servicing, its the bike I use to commute 15 miles a day back and forth from work. I had fixed the tire once before at this shop but this time around the clerk was super condescending about e-bikes... the guy looked at it and told me he would not be liable if something broke while he fixed it. All in all he was extremely negative about e-bikes, he even said I think e-bikes are the devil LOL. I just took my business to the Trek shop after he told me he did not want to fix it. At Trek they were super nice about it and fixed it in 20 minutes... they guy was very skilled and not afraid of breaking things while doing his job. I highly recommend Trek and will be bypassing Big Wheel from now on.Adapt, or go bankrupt.
Great service, Ted is the man. Really took care of me! Great people over at big wheel bikes!
The staff was very helpful. We rented the trail-a-bike and it was perfect for my 7 year old daughter. The bike selection was great. I highly recommend this place!
These guys were a great help with fixing my bike. My bike had a flat tire and they were able to find the hole and fix it. It costs about $20 but they are fast and friendly. There is a great supply of rental bikes as well.
This place is terrible to say the least. They can’t care less! They advertise on their website that renting some bikes starts at $7/h, however, when you go there they say that you have to rent it for at least 3 hours! Seriously? Then they say that they sell used bikes. Perfect! But when you ask about the price, they say that they don’t know because they need to ask the owner who is there! Why the used bikes aren’t priced?
This is by far the worst customer service I have ever received in any business. I went there yesterday to get a tube replaced. There were people in front of me so I had to wait 45 minutes. Fair enough. When it was my turn, he pulled a new tube in order to replace mine. At the same time, two customers walked thru the door to rent bikes. The dude tells me right there: Sorry but I cant help you. Go to Bike Pro Shop. I was absolutely stunned! After that long wait, he took other customers before me. The guy was rude beyond anything I have ever seen. Avoid this place!
Still offering horrible service. Somethings never change.
Welcoming and great service!
STAY AWAY from Big Wheel Bikes in Georgetown. Unknowledgeable uncoordinated unprofessional staff. Staff there dont seem to know what is going on, place orders for parts that never actually get placed and then say you have to talk to someone else about it who isnt in the shop or isnt answering their phone, blame others, blame the customer, or make things up that they think are right but turn out not to be and the customer suffers the consequences. I bought a new bike here, which turned out to be damaged and improperly assembled. When I complained, got fed up with their shoddy practices and delays week after week, and got frustrated to the point of wanting a refund they tried to gas light me. Gave up on them and took the bike to be reassembled and repaired by another mechanic for $140... And the bike is brand new! Take your business elsewhere.
Had such a great experience. I attempted Pro Shop in Georgetown and was essentially turned away because my bike was not high end enough and came here. Oz (? IM terrible with names, the mechanic) was very helpful and curtious. He took the time to explain things and really made my bike better. Upon check out I had told him my poor experience at Pro and showed how terrible of a handle wrap job they did and he fixed it right then and there for me. Very appreciative!!! Highly recommend. May take longer to repair but well worth the wait!
Bikes was dirty and low quality ... but they did the job and got us to Rock Creek Park and back. Some comment on the qualiy of the staff ... it could have been better but i give them the benefit of the doubt.... glad we did come in rush hour .. (if they ever have a russh hour) . Washing the bikes after rentals would be the quickest way to improve ratings
My experience was only a phone call about renting a bike. I just wanted to clarify the prices on renting a bike but Mikes response was Its in plain English on the website. He may have more bikes that arent cookie cutter like his competitors but lacks the customer service skills.
After going to the Pro Shop next door and getting major attitude from some hipster know it all I came here and got the service I needed.
Honest guys knowledgeable of their bikes. Great value for renting some quality bikes.
Horrible Service!!! Buyer Beware!!!!I came here for a simple repair for a flat. I had to come back to this shop three times within a hour for the same freaking repair. The first flat the tech replaced the inner-tube. By time I left the shop the tire went flat at the Kennedy Center. When I came back the tech replaces the innertube again, and says everything should be fine. By the time I get to the Memorial Bridge the tire is flat again. After I go to this shop, I notice another customer come in for a broke spoke. The tech recommend that he replace the entire wheel for one spoke, and at this point I just want to leave but Im skeptical after seeing how this customer was treated. My inner tube is replaced and tech recommends I buy a new tire. Sure enough by the time Im at the Memorial Bridge the tire goes flat again. This time it is well after 7 so I walk the bike home. The next morning, I take my bike Bike space and they find a small shard of glass in the tire, and oh by the way youve got the wrong inner tube installed on the bike now. After BicycleSpace make the repair everything is back to normalTo recap:- Poor attention to detail ( wrong inner tube installed on the roadbike )- Questionable sales practices ( Recommended replacing an entire wheel for 1 broken spoke )- Unable to perform root cause analysis ( Missed Glass in the tire three times )- Lack of accountabilityDo yourself a favor and shop elsewhere
The problem here is the staff: really rude. (read the other testimonies and you will see that this is common). Next time I will try renting my bike at Thompson Boat Center.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, good selection of rental bikes. Nothing too shiny, but they are very functional.
Good bike rental shop with a decent selection of bikes. Very close to the DC Mall as well as all the major bike paths.
Its the best place for bikes in DC
These guys are the absolute worst. Have sold me multiple tubes that blew almost immediately. Did a brake adjustment that left both brakes rubbing and a wheel nut loose (that came off later while I was riding). Id rather walk home than get anything done by them.
The worst customer service experience of my life. Rude, and relentlessly unhelpful.Do not ever do business with this company. Inconsolable morons.
Great service and great bike
Awesome guys, got a great bike there
Definitely the worst Bicycle shop Ive been to in my life.
Amazing people!
Friendly and good services.
No problem on the staff side as opposed to the previous opinions: my interlocutor was attentive and available.Whats more, the rates are equal to or less than the competition for rental.
