The good: I went in after a crash to get my front wheel trued and the tube replaced. The mechanic who helped me (whose name I unfortunately missed) was friendly, professional, and very quick. My total was under $50, which was pretty reasonable. The bad: As I was checking out, Neil (the gentleman working the front desk) made an uncomfortable comment about how he liked taking money from women, and was strangely insistent that my bike must be older than I thought (despite me mentioning that I’d looked up the serial number to find out how old it was). I laughed it off, but it was an uncomfortable interaction, and soured the whole experience.

The best efficient customer service in DC when it comes to bike shops. I wanted to fix the loose brakes, other places asked me to leave my bike for the entire week!!!!! With City Bikes, it took 15 minutes. That’s it. Well I was lucky that they weren’t working on other bikes before mine. But still, the experience was efficient and fast. I love it!

Avoid if you can! I have been a loyal customer at this shop for years since I live right nearby, but it has gotten progressively worse as far as service and reliability, and after my experience today, I am never going back. I walked my bike with a flat tire from Georgetown to Adams Morgan yesterday evening in order to have it close to home and pick it up and go in the morning. When I picked it up after getting the message that it was ready this morning (i) first there was a piece missing on the tire; (ii) the seat had been left way high (also, why? it was just a flat repair), which I noticed the first time I left, so I went back; (iii) the guy who lowered the seat didnt tighten it, so as soon as I left the second time it fell all the way down; (iv) I went back and got the seat fixed, left again, and after 5 -7 minutes, the same tire was flat again. At that point I really needed to get back to Georgetown, so I walked it and left it at Bicycle Pro Shop in Georgetown (where they were wonderful) and got the flat repaired there. When I got back to City Bikes the guy in the back fought with me over giving a refund for $27.50 that theyd charged me for the flat repair, saying I needed to have brought the bike back to them in the first place. I couldnt do that, because I needed to get to work. This place absolutely cannot be relied on, and has rude and at the very least careless -- if not incompetent -- people working there. Apparently theres no oversight, and you cant even call them to let them know theres been a problem, since theres no longer even a direct phone line into the store. Never going back.Update: I wrote the manager an email asking for a refund and got an incredibly rude series of emails in response, arguing that the problem was my bad carma and not the careless service.

I have been a loyal customer at City Bikes in Adams Morgan for the last 8 years. Sadly the team seems to have changed. Two young guys (one claims to be the store manager) are serving customers now.The other day I needed a replacement spoke for a broken spoke that was still on the bike. They first claimed they would need to remove the spoke to measure it (clearly wanting to charge the full price for a spoke replacement). When I insisted on just getting a replacement spoke, they used a piece of paper to estimate the length (They could not be bothered to get out a proper measurement tape). As a consequent they got the length of the spoke wrong by more than 1/2 inch (even with the paper method is hard to get it this wrong). When I returned to ask for a replacement, they outright refused claiming that because they had not been able to take the spoke out, they were not responsible for the mismeasurement. One of them even claimed it is simply impossible to measure a spoke while it is till on the bike. Everyone who regular repairs bikes knows that this is simply not true. When I confronted them with the simple facts they got quite unfriendly to the point of being aggressive and asked me to either pay for a new spoke or leave. As I was starting to feel very uncomfortable with two of them getting loud, I left. As mentioned, I used to love the store. In the back they had a team of folks who repaired the bikes and who were kind, helpful and even willing to creatively problem solve. The new team in the front of the store instead is incompetent and clearly has not interest in serving customers to the point that they get aggressive.

BLUF: I would consider an alternative shop for repairs unless youre in a pinch.I took my bike to these guys on 13 JUL for a deflated rear tire and rear brake slippage. They were friendly and evaluated the problem quickly with a timely turnaround as well. HOWEVER when they re-seated/sealed the back tubeless tire, they missed about a 1 cm gash on the sidewall. The tire gradually leaked before my next ride so I stopped at bike at a different shop near the ride to re-inflate it as I thought it was likely just from being re-seated. When the back PSI hit 35, sealant started spraying out of the sidewall. The guys at the shop tried plugging it without any luck. Thankfully, I had a spare that the other shop threw on while they patched the missed gash. During the ride, my rear brake continued to slip (which granted I was warned may happen if the issue was not due to air in the line). Fast forward to today, I stopped in the shop and Trent, one of the techs that didnt originally service my bike, agreed to credit the fee for the tire towards replacing the brakes and rotors. After I left the shop, Trent called back and asked that I come back in to talk with the tech that originally serviced my bike. He said there was no way he missed the gash and it didnt happen while the bike was in the shop, suggesting that I did it after I left the shop. If I somehow managed to slash a sidewall between walking the bike home on a flat sidewalk, riding the elevator up to my apartment, and walking into my apartment then I need a new tire brand. I didnt even ask for my money back, I just asked for the money from the service that was performed incorrectly be credited to another future service. This work was supposed to be guaranteed for 30 days and they did not stand by that guarantee even after they were the chance to rectify the discrepancy which is why I wrote the review. Again, I would go elsewhere if your situation permits.

First off, Arthur, the shop manager gets five stars. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and not pushy at all. I was searching for an affordable (under $1,000), steel touring bike. I visited 5 different shops around town, and this is the only store I found that sold Jamis bikes. Arthur let me take his own personal Jamis Aurora bike for a ride, and I decided to order my own from City Bikes. When my Aurora bike arrived, there was a slight irregularity with the frame. Rather than ignore the problem and sell me the bike as is (they probably could have gotten away with that), Arthur wrote be a personal email explaining the problem. One week later, I had a new frame and some upgraded Schwalbe Marathon tires with my new bike.I ended up getting a great steel touring bike for $923. Mission accomplished. Thank you Arthur! One suggestion I have is that the bike mechanics should try to make eye contact and greet everyone who drops in to have their bike worked on ASAP. When I dropped into the shop, there were two mechanics working and several people waiting awkwardly waiting to be recognized by one of the mechanics. I understand they are focused on the work, but all you have to say is, Hey! Ill be right with you. :)

The service was reasonably priced (I paid $90 for the services listed above plus a new tube). For comparison, the Bike Rack in Logans Circle quoted me $105 just to replace my cassette, chain, big ring, and rear tire, so I appreciate the reasonable prices at City Bikes.I havent had any issues and my bike is working great, but I appreciate how they have a month warranty on their services. Shout out to my man THEO! Talk about outstanding customer service. I was on a ride through dc from Arlington and happened to pop my inner tube in the admo area. Normally I have a spare, but at this time I did not. So I look up the nearest shop and City Bike admo comes up. It closes in literally ten mins. I get there and there’s about five mins till close and explain to the guy in front I just need a quick inner tube change and that it was kind of an emergency since I had to ride back to Arlington. The man gives me a snarky “we close in five mins I’ll sell you a tube and you can do it yourself.” Seeing as it was goin to be my only option I accept. When taking my bike into the store to get the tube, my man Theo asks me what I need and the man who initially helped me mutters again something snarky under his breath like, “cant be coming in with five mins asking for maintenance” and walks out. Theo heard this, and tells me “look man, if you gotta go back to Arlington I got you. It’s no trouble, Just hang tight out front.” My man changed my tire in literally 3 mins and was even going to do it for FREE! But I insisted on paying him for the trouble and for being there right at close. He apologized for the initial guy I spoke with and told me “get home safe man.” Talk about grade “A”customer service and personability . If you go in this shop ask for Theo. Theo, if you read this. THANKS AGAIN BROTHA! I move to DC in a week and you will definitely be my shop of choice for all my needs.

However, I wanted to take the pedals off my old bike to put on the new one. I got one off with my park tool but needed a longer allen wrench to get added leverage on the other, which was giving me trouble. Given this place is close by, it seemed a no-brained to run in for some quick help as I just needed someone to stick a wrench in the back of the pedal and give it one tug to loosen it. Well, the“mechanic” wanted $8.48 to do just that, on one pedal. Are you freaking kidding me? I walked out and, that’s that. I already had a poor opinion of this place, but that sealed it.BTW, the hardware around the corner sells the right size hex key for $1.79.
