Beware if you are considering renting a Penske truck and trailer from this location.We embarked on a five-day, cross-country move from Lincolnshire to San Diego and when we called Penske direct, they were wonderful and easy to work with. When we arrived at this Home Depot location to check into the details, the understaffed tool/rental area was quite the opposite. We were met with frustration and the sense that we were an inconvenience from the first greeting. We were able to confirm what we needed in advance and on the day for pickup, we were given the keys and a very basic visual walk around the truck.The first challenge we faced was that my husband had to connect the trailer himself, which would normally be no problem, but whoever returned the trailer last had over-tightened the tire bras so hard, that it was almost impossible to get them loose. After an hour of hassling with that, we were on our way. As soon as we got onto the highway, a light came on and a loud noise came from the engine area. The light said Service Stabilitrak and I noticed that the truck was pulling to the left slightly. We had literally just gotten onto the highway and it seemed to be stable enough to drive, so we kept going.We drove for a few hours and needed to fill up the gas tank, ending up in Springfield, IL. I just happened to turn the wheels inward when I parked, and my husband noticed that the front drivers side tire was so severely warn down that metal was showing (see photo). Terrified of a blowout, we called Penske Customer Service. After waiting on hold, he was hung up on. He called back and this happened AGAIN. We eventually talked to someone from OnStar (even though we did not pay for that service) and they advised that we get towed to a local GMC dealer. We instead drove very slowly down a side road to a local Penske dealer, which was closing soon.Once we arrived, the local Penske dealer, there wasn’t really anything he could do, other than offer another truck that we could swap with. Rather than doing that, we took the chance of going to the GMC dealer that OnStar suggested since it was only a few more blocks away. Once there, they took a quick look and noticed that our 16’ truck was too big for any of their bays. By this time, Jeff, from Penske Customer Service, had arrived so we started talking through options with him.We ended up driving back to the Springfield Penske rental location and Jeff and my husband spent the next 4 hours swapping the truck with a newer model in the grueling summer heat. Jeff was seriously so helpful in this situation and completely empathetic to what we were going through. We were finally able to get back on our cross-country journey after hours of delay and worry… and the rest of the trip was thankfully smooth sailing. I ended up driving the entire way since my poor husband had just packed the first truck the day before, then had to do it AGAIN that afternoon. We lost about 6 hours total and had to drive at night for a bit with this big truck and trailer, something we had planned carefully to avoid. Luckily none of us were injured due to a blow out on the highway but this was something that should never have happened and we feel this Home Depot is truly to blame.If you are at all considering renting a Penske truck or trailer, please go directly to a full, true Penske office. Home Depot staff, especially in this location do not take care in quality checks when equipment is returned. They are under-staffed and quite rude and make you feel like an absolute inconvenience. We paid $2600 for these rentals and were neglected. We even explained that we had considered U-haul but wanted to give Penske a try. These Penske rentals are not a priority for Home Depot. Seriously consider your options before taking a risk like this.Update: Penske Corp is refunding us $800 for our trouble and will be working with this location to review their processes, etc.

They usually have what you need, and at competitive prices. I first check their website first to insure they have the item I need. I also check the competition. Most of the time they have the item and priced well.

Ordered window install from this store. Its been 3 months since my original install date and still the job has not been completed. No one responds to the phone calls or voice massages. The installers didnt show up already twice for their appointment. I usually go to home depot all the time, but this is the worst experience I have had with any company. Kishana M Hooks or the guy named Anthony who doesnt even feel like providing his last name in formal emails did you forget how to use a phone??????

Great store, specially Erik and Gabe (sorry if I didn’t spell their names correctly) but I came in to pick up some lumber for my job at Abbvie asked for help loading it and it was awesome to see 2 young guys not complain or make a face they were more then happy to help me you could see it in their faces ! Those are the people you want representing your company.

Like this Home Depot in Vernon Hills, only drawback is the lack of personnel when I needed help to find a product, is almost like they were hiding from me.

I really enjoy shopping at home depot in Mundein, Ill. I always fund what Im lookong for and if Im having trouble finding something, there is always someone there to help me. I recently purchased a smoker and a really nice foldable picnic table. My deck is complete. I also bought all my flowers and plants there. They have a great garden department. The place is great.

The home Depot has some very good products that I use in my yard and also in my house.

We were looking for a washer and dryer and Marin was extremely helpful answering our many questions and giving us some great advice. She is very knowledgeable about the various machines and gave us a good deal on the machines we ultimately bought.

Customer service has become a dirty word for Home Depot. Getting anyone to help at the store is nearly impossible and they have hit an all new low when they canceled my $2500 Tuffshed order, after four months, with no explanation, and no refund in sight. Ive called repeatedly to try and resolve the issue only to kept on hold for 20 minutes and more. As of this writing there is still no resolution, Im still out $2500 bucks, have no shed, snd have been provided with no answers. There are many other home improvement stores out there. I recommend trying any of them.

Visiting this store makes me realize how much I miss Millen Hardware in Wilmette, IL, the indwelling home of informed staff, excellent customer service and organizational acumen, all attributes missing from this location. Im not sure why, precisely, I keep returning here in light of the reality that one typically must ask three different associates the location of any given item before the correct answered magically manifests. Poorly trained staff, some of which are on their phones while on the clock, it appears, pervade the aisles, seemingly content to while away the hours doing nothing that helps this company operate within its Production Possibilities Curve. Opt instead for the Menards about 2 miles north on Milwaukee Avenue for a much better customer service experience. Economic Darwinism be dammed, this place somehow survives in spite of itself.

I would give it a 5 star but they are very low on stock. Good customer service and organized.

I worked with Marin at this location and she was PHENOMENAL. I had a limited amount of time before work and a busy schedule as a mom and she helped me with my entire list. I had so many random questions and she took the time to explain how to use and show me were each product was. I will always go back to this location based off this experience. She was AMAZING!!!!

Too many employees dont know or understand that masks are meant to cover the mouth AND nose! When asked to adjust, I was either ignored or met with passive aggressiveness. This store has the best stock of other home depots in the area, but apparently only at the expense of my health and safety. Yikes.

Its a basic big box home improvement store, but the website can pinpoint where items are (should be) to the aisle and bin, which is helpful.

About no customer service. Went to pickup an order of 20 bags of rocks. Told me to bring my truck around to the pickup site. Pulled in and waited for 20 minutes. Went back inside to see what was taking so long. There were 5 employees all standing and talking including the guy that pulled my order. He simply walked me over and showed me where he left my order... Off to the side . Next to a vacant checkout. Told him I also need help unloading both when I first came to get the order and when he walked me down to show me the order. He asked another employee to help, but I waited for about 10 minutes before loading everything myself. Still no help by the time I finished loading myself.

The store itself is designed more for a tradesman than a casual do it yourselfer. But the selection is great - you just need to figure out a way to find what you need.

You can always expect to find at least one brand or type of the thing you need. We also like that more of their products are UL listed than other big box stores.

They only had a 4-pack of the lightbulb I wanted and I didnt need 4 so I got a color changing smart bulb instead.

Im a contractor. Ill be as nice as possible here...This store is poorly managed and the employees here are often unable and unwilling to do their jobs or even acknowledge the presence of a customer in need. A bad attitude is added for good measure. Bring this to the attention of management and nothing will be said or done about it. How has one store hired so many inept and rude employees? I write this review after many visits to this store over the last 2 years and not just one bad experience. Avoid it if you can. Menards and Lowes are down the street.

Pet friendly! I took my Lab Cooper there to pick up a few things. Talk to Rudy, Kimmy and Susan when you stop by The Home Depot in Vernon. They are all helpful and very friendly. One of the best stocked Home Depot’s around.

Best time to shop. It is very empty. Seems there are more employes than shoppers. And they have face masks for those who forgot it at home.

I’de like to give this store a 5 star however upon my visit the other day they are continue to allow people without face covering and no one seems to care or to reinforce the village ordinance. Essential business like Home Depot should be glad that their store are open and people are flocking to gain their business.I wish that store staff will step up for public safety!

I attempted to return a $12 item without a receipt and was dutifully told that even though the item appeared on my Home Depot credit card. I was informed that I had too many returns without a receipt even though I usually use my HD card. I tried to reason with an assistant store manager. I didnt get far so I asked to speak to the store manager who wasnt there. I asked for a call back. Its been 3 days and no call. Guess they dont want my business....and Im a contractor. I just wont shop here any more. Menards and Lowes are right down the street.

45 minutes waiting for lumber to be cut after speaking with no less than 6 workers at the store. Called into the store and asked someone to come to lumber twice. Waited around another 15 minutes, still no one.Trying to talk to anyone on the phone is useless, youll just get transferred back to the same person 15x. No joke it happened 15x. Dont try to get any help here, you wont get it.

The customer service at Home Depot Vernon Hills was incredible! I am an elementary school teacher and needed some Thrifty White Panel Board cut into 12 by 12 pieces and Shawn happily did it for me. Prior to visiting the Vernon Hills store, I had 3 other locations tell me they either couldnt cut the panel board or would have to charge me a ridiculous cutting fee. Not only did Shawn cut the panel perfectly, he also waved the extra fee. Thank you Shawn for your gracious act! I cant wait for my students to use their new personal whiteboards in class on Tuesday! They are going to be over the moon. Also, thank you John for carrying the white boards to the checkout for me. From now on, Vernon Hills is the only Home Depot location I will shop at!

Needed to buy a step ladder. Unfortunately the ladder was hanging up above from a hook. I could not reach it to bring it down. I walked from one end to the store to the other looking for somebody to help me. Finally found Dave. Asked him if he can get the ladder and bring it up to the check out for me. Explained that I had thrown my knee out could not walk entire store again. Off he went to get my ladder. Half hour later I was still waiting. I asked three different people at check out if they had the ladder somewhere. Told them that Dave was supposed to get it for me. I asked if they can page him find out where the ladder is. I waited and waited. At this point it of been going on almost 45 minutes. I said to the two male cashiers were standing there talking I guess I’ll go get it myself and hope I don’t hurt myself. They didn’t respond. It took me a while to get it down but I did manage. I did strain my shoulder from reaching up getting it off the hook and then bringing the weight down. I checked out at self serve. Nice girl working there, she saw how upset I was verge of tears. Told her my story. She told me Dave was the manager. I’m in the middle of a house remodel and I am certainly going to do my best to get everything I need at Menards and Lowe’s. They’re right down the street. Never had a bad experience there. Going to try my hardest never to come into your Home Depot in Vernon Hills ever again. You all are lucky that ladder did not come down on my head or knock me down. A couple days of ibuprofen helped the shoulder strain. But it was all so unnecessary if Dave had just done what he said.

It was weird I went in with 3 co workers no mask no problem we got are stuff checked out I went back a few hours later and two young men very politely told me a needed a mask and provided one for free just seems weird to me other then that it was good plenty of help which is almost no existence any more everyone was professinal

I got some lumber boards and the gentleman there helped cut it in the size I required. Saved me loads of time and effort. Thank you sir and thank you Home Depot.

My go-to local store for anything home related, from improvement to holiday decorating. Excellent customer service and friendly atmosphere. I like their savings offering, too! Good store.

Whatever you are looking for to renovate, just make a few changes, or find anything for your home, they have got it. From A to Z and everything in between. From attics to basements, garages, gardening, storage, lighting... you get what I mean. Also a very helpful staff. I was looking for particular items and they told me what section, aisle and area on the shelf. I got my answers to a flooring question, and what cleaners are better. Go to one wherever you live. They are great!

Racist employee at this store. There is a lady with colored hair. She would jump in and scan items at the self checkout lane for absolutely no reason if you are black or brown.I got some stuff (exactly the same) a day before and she jumped in saying the system wont let you process . The very next day i bought the same stuff, just more of it and she did the exact same. My bad i argued that it does not and she felt i knew what she was doing. Then she abruptly turned away and hide her badge.Then i went back in from the other door and noticed what she does. She did the same with only the black or brown guys. White dudes, she does not even bother.That is one racist place. Avoid.

Unfortunately this is the most convenient store for me and I need to frequently visit. There are some gems on the staff, but mostly they couldnt care less about you as a customer. Often very hard to find someone to help you and Ive had some absolutely just terrible interactions with employees. Most of these employees just seem super disgruntled. Also, for the love of God can you please repave your parking lot.

I have been into this Home Depot a couple of times and not one did the store disappoint. Today, we went by the blinds for our house, and the blinds that are there were not the size that we needed, so we needed to have it cut to the right size that we wanted. And this guy who was willing to help us and his name is Michael D he is so kind and hes willing to help, and we got so much for help from him. He is also the hardest working staff in Home Depot thatI have ever seen. Next time you need help with blinds in this store, ask for Michael D because he is the best!!

Their bathrooms are amazing. i know it sounds like that’s not a big deal. but they must’ve redone them recently and honestly they’re super nice 👍🏽

I was called in for an interview, the girl at the customer service counter had no idea what was going on, she tried her best to help but when Im sat in a back room for 25 mins and told the person supposed to interview you just isnt there, so wait another 10 mins then just leave. honestly if your so desperate for employees why would you waste peoples time when they come in for interviews? I shop at home depot weekly for supplies but not any longer. dont waste your time with these people.

Everything about this store is a nightmare. Stock is a mess, staff is usually hiding somewhere. No pro desk. I made the mistake of ordering something from them and it has taken them 3 weeks after they received it in the store to deliver it to my job site. They were supposed to resolve an issue with the vendor and they could not do that either. If you are a professional or a serious do-it-yourself person go anywhere but here.To top it off it takes forever to speak to anyone on the phone and then they always tell you they will call you back. They never do!
