Had to wait twenty minutes for my coffee. People behind me in a larger group were getting their orders first despite the fact that when they saw me alone they offered to let me go ahead since I was just one drink and they figured theirs would take longer. The person making the drinks was not one of multi-tasking and was making each drink one by one despite the fact that it appeared the machine was capable of at least producing two drinks at a time. They were also not projecting their voice so the only people that could hear them call out a name or type of drink were people immediately around the counter which led to several drinks sitting on the counter for long periods and confusion when people finally came up as the employee could not remember what was what since they were not labeled with a name or type of drink. At least one other customer had to wait just as long for their drink and then longer for their food order as it was not written down and he had to remind them at least twice and when he eventually got it they had to remember it was sitting in the microwave for a while. The coffee was good and fairly priced, though.TLDR: Disorganized and slow.
So far on my coffee quest journey, black kite has had the best latte. i got a coconut latte, fantastic.
Really awesome coffee shop. Spacious and cozy. I had the low calorie breakfast sandwich which was delicious and a large iced mocha latte which was also tasty. It’s the perfect setting for a day of studying and there were several people who came just for the food etc. the staff was friendly as well and there’s a bunch of parking in the lot next to the building. Highly recommend. Had a productive day.
The reason for this extremely low review has nothing to do with the food or coffee, as both are fantastic. This establishment is NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE by any stretch of the imagination. There is a step leading to the entrance, and they provide NO RAMP. Since I use a wheelchair, this meant I couldnt even enter. I had to wait outside, have my friend relay the menu options to me, and go back inside to order for me. Absolutely RIDICULOUS that in 2021, people who use mobility devices cant even go inside to get a coffee.
I lived in toledo for 16 months in the mid 2010s, hated the place but a shining star was Black Kite Coffee, loved the place and staff and coffee. The Ethiopian pea was a standout, if your ever in toledo(😢😭😢) it is a must see.
This is what I want from a local coffee shop! Great coffee, knowledgeable baristas, and delicious food! Will definitely come back!! Thanks for a great time!! Y’all are awesome!!
My barista was friendly and knowledgeable, andy cappuccino was excellent!
I highly recommend the Blueberry Lavender Latte if it’s available 💜
Great drinks. Breakfast Sammie did not sit well.
Favorite latte in town, not two sweet, has better music than any other coffee house in the city, and the staff is cool and friendly.
Very friendly, comfortable environment with wonderful and helpful baristas! I recommend their Black Bullet blends (either one) and/or Ohio Honey Lavender - you cant go wrong with either of those! This will definitely be one of our must-visits whenever were in the Old West End neighborhood in Toledo!
My iced coffee had a chemical aftertaste. They assured me there was no artificial sweetener. Since I couldnt discern the strange taste, I simply dumped it. But, Im not in the habit of purchasing beverages only to dump them. So, I wont be back.
Black Kite has a homely feel to it that I like. It feels like that local coffee shop you could get to know people. Lots of great selections of drinks as well as vegan options for baked goods. Ive been here multiple times and would go again.
Coffee Quest 2021:$2.00 for two shots of espresso over ice with caramel. The shots were okay and I couldnt immediately tell if there was caramel in it. The staff was indifferent and not particularly friendly. Over the years I feel like Black Kite has dialed in their dine in atmosphere and so they gain a star over my last review. They also had very affordably priced espresso compared to almost every other area shop.
Always amazing, if you dont do animal milk they have almond and soy milk,. They also have gourmet baked good, I always get the cinnamon swirl cinnabun or the veggies bagel ball, if you like good coffee, calm atmosphere, smiling faces, good prices and a seating area to make you feel at home... look no further, also if youre on a date get your coffee to go and visit the art museum less than 2 minutes away. Shell love it I promise 😍😂💎
Lovely quiet coffee shop. Definitely worth the visit.
Waited half an hour for an iced latte of the week (lemon/blueberry latte). When I finally got my drink (after my friend asked about our drinks twice), it was warm and there was no flavor. The plain iced latte was decent, but not what I ordered or was charged for. There was a steady coming and going of people, also waiting ridiculous times for drinks. The environment was pleasant, though. I will stop elsewhere in the downtown area for coffee next time.
Great brews of coffee and tea and awesome desserts/pastries
The coffee ☕ and staff are amazing. 🙂☕ I recommend you vtey it.
They advertise Brunch but they have none currently available. The only food available is the one in the deli case just FYI.
Reminds me of the village in New York. I never purchase coffee or tea from Coffee shops the mark up is tremendously high. But I must say I tried the tea here. It was very good. I would love to see a live performance here. Maybe a sax player or acoustic guitar. That would be a much needed added touch. I will be back.
Strong coffee and even stronger breath from the workers
Always good coffee and atmosphere! Open during covid; please wear a mask.
The staff is courteous, efficient and personable. Chai tea latte is the bomb!
Nice, chill place to get a quick bite to eat or to sit and enjoy a warm drink. I came to Black Kites maybe 3 or 4 years ago and had completely mistaken the place for another out in the Downtown area. Super happy that Black Kites is so much closer to the North Toledo area.
I love this coffee shop! It is really inviting and everything tastes delicious! The only warning I give is that their pies are meat pies, not dessert pies. They are still delicious but if you were hoping for a sweet piece of pie thats not what they sell. They do have a few.oyher baked goods and bagel bombs that I want to try next time.
Staff is great, coffee is excellent. Atmosphere is very calm and yet invigorating. Really great brunch served on weekends, a must if youve never been! Really happy to have heard of this gem😊👍👍
I live in NYC. Whenever I come home to Toledo this is my go to coffee shop. A) it’s within walking distance of my house and B) I need them to open up a shop in NYC so I can have my “home away from home coffee”. Great prices. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Their hot chocolate is great! I wish they had more bakery options. The shop is very trendy. I love it!
Latte was super sweet like to the point of making me wonder if I got the wrong order. I have never had a regular latte come sweetened to this extent. Poor accoustics, very loud staff cant hear your order. Several menu items were unavailable. The iced tea was fine. The beignet I got was more of a funnel cake. Good but not my definition of that pastry. Over all worth a stop, but I would have liked to be able to hear to get better info when ordering.
Great coffee, friendly staff, warm bright and clean inside!
Awesome staff, very friendly! Love coming in and talking with them and getting a good coffee. If you havent been here you should check it out, they have a bunch of good drinks.
Coffee and espresso were good. Definitely more hipster than I was expecting, considering the location. WAY more screaming children than I would expect in a coffee shop. Mostly, though, the four stars arent five because the guy making food with his bare hands grossed me out! I am, admittedly, a little bit over the top when it comes to things like that, so I realize it might not bother other people as much as it bothers me...
I frequent Black Kite Coffee quite often and have always been pleased with the service and menu items. Lattes are always on point and Im always greeted with a smile. But thats not what keeps me coming back. What keeps me coming back is their weekend brunch. I love that the menu changes every week.
It can be pricey. But the atmosphere is great for studying and the abundance of natural lighting makes it really refreshing. Friendly staff, excellent local coffee.
Stopped by here after being at the cathedral across the street to grab some coffee for the drive back south, and wished I couldve stayed longer! The atmosphere was super cute and welcoming, plenty of tables to camp out atI got the Ohio Honey Lavender latte, and it was delicious! Subtle enough to still taste the espresso, but just a few notes of sweetness from the honey and lavender to take it up a notch. Got it to go, and the latte still had latte art, which is always a mark of the baristas care to me
What a suprise find in the old west end. Friendly service. Great coffee. Neat old shop with tin ceiling and hand blown glass decorations
Spot for the cool chick to chill out and grab some coffee. The breakfast had potential but not well prepared. Potatoes werent done and biscuit was dry.Acoustics are also tough. Be prepared to raise your voice to be heard across a small cappuccino table.
This place is the best. Ive never had savory pies so nicely done before. The cheesecake cinnamon roll must be tried. The drinks are better than Starbucks.
Nice atmosphere. Unique bites. Will be back for sure.
A very quaint coffee shop that has amazing java along with incredible eats! Service was prompt and professional. I will visit again soon!
Always great and affordable prices on hand baked and homemade cakes and pies and cakes and pies, and excellent brews. Bonus is safe/honest ataff/guest...I left, forgot my purse in the chair for an hour before realizing. So I called and it was right before closing, they found and held it for me to return 25 minutes later !!!
Cute place with a chill atmosphere. The brunch options were really tasty and our coffee selections were all great! The service was a little slow though. We came with our moms for a mothers day brunch and everyone stared at us when we walked in like we didnt belong, so its very much got that college vibe, but overall very nice!
My wife stopped in for a chai tea latte as we were driving through. We also picked up one of their homemade savory pies. Both were delicious! Staff were very friendly. The place was quiet, but nice atmosphere. We would definitely go back.
Very socially conscious people. Great little coffee shop. Good prices, friendly staff.
Good coffee!
The place was very crowded, and the wait was long. We went on a Sunday morning at breakfast time though, so I cant fault them for that. The crowd must be indicative of the quality of the food. We were planning to get breakfast but just decided on coffee-to-go since there was no place left to sit. That said, the coffee was good, and the food did look great.
Staff is always welcoming and is a great hang out spot. Especially love that they have live performances and poetry readings. If you are looking for a place with local charm this place is it! Also, weekend brunch is the best in town!
The brunch was excellent!!! Got there a little later so most of the menu item were all sold out but the stuff that they still offered was good.
Love the black kite! Great service, good coffee and decent price.
The food and coffee is delicious. I love having brunch here. The biggest downside is that theres virtually no sound dampening. Since they get really busy (rightfully so), its impossible to talk to people at your table without yelling.
I’m from Michigan and I came here after going to the Toledo Art Museum. Great quiet atmosphere to chill and hang out. Great coffee and snacks as well.
Cream cheese cinnamon roll is delicious. Ohio Honey Lavendar iced latte hit the spot on a hot summer afternoon!
Kind service and awesome bagel bombs!
This place is a hidden gem on the old west end. I grow up in this neighborhood and it is refreshing to a nice atmosphere to come to and get coffee and chill. If you come get the Aztec Mocha...it is fire
Great pie and coffee, but I miss the old dishwasher! Isaac really made the experience special for me. This place has great food and really well-cleaned dishes :D
Great staff great service quieter place to sit and chat or do homework
A great neighborhood spot for meetings and people watching. The drinks are great and the vibe is super mellow. On the weekends they provide a very popular brunch and during the week they offer homemade baked good.
They have a pretty good coffee selection along with a welcoming and laid back atmosphere. Its a good place to chat with an old friend. Free WiFi.
Love this place!! I lived next door to this place for 2 1/2 yrs, it is an awesome place to get a top notch cup of coffee. I get my beans here and feel like Im cheating if I go anywhere else lol. Im sad I dont stay as close as I once did but its worth going out of my way for. Staff is friendly, professional and interesting. There is a reason this place is standing room only on the weekends when they serve up brunch. Great place!
Decided to try this place after hearing great things about it. However, my visit was highly disappointing. Coffee tasted super watered down and both the veggie and meat pie were not good. The atmosphere wasnt even that great. Compared to the other coffee shops in the area and chain stores like BB or Starbucks, this places is far worst in terms of quality and service.
I moved back to CLE from Dallas and was dying to replace my favorite french bakery with something local. This was the first stop on my list of many places to try. All you need to know is I havent gone anywhere else on my list yet. They have the most buttery/flakey croissants EVER. The Kouign Amann is unique in itself because no where serves these. It has a brûlée of sugar making the croissants a little crunchy, extra sweet, and really just takes you over the edge.
Wonderful coffee shop. Its my go-to place for great coffee and food whenever Im in town. If you need a great afternoon snack, go here for coffee and their Paleo bread or bagel bombs
Great place to hang out and relax with a good cuppa. The staff are kind and attentive. BTW, if you are in recovery... you will feel right at home.
A wonderful local coffee shop in the Old West End. Excellent coffee, pie and food selections. You would do well to check out their brunch on the weekends, as well. They make most of their food from scratch and get holey doughnuts on the weekend. Also, the sell beer
The owner Kristin is super nice. On point taste in art, interior design, and of course, coffee, espresso, and wicked tasty pies / bfast bites. Keep doing what your doing and stay in touch!
Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere. They typically have some pretty good coffees ready to go.
I got an iced chai tea latte. It was okay. The worker wasnt mean or rude, but not particularly friendly or helpful.I saw another review that said free wifi, but I only saw wifi with a password. Maybe you need to ask for it, but I didnt want to bother the worker to ask.No outdoor seating which was disappointing on a beautiful August afternoon.
As soon as I walked in, I went oh no. Im gonna be one of those annoying regulars. And then I had some of their coffee and I was perfectly fine with it. Grade A coffee with high quality sweeteners and cream and milk. Exactly what I look for in a coffee house
Always fantastic food. The best stuffed bagel I have ever had. KILLER Bloody Mary ever!!!
I love Black Kite because the quality of there food/coffee is always great. They created a great atmosphere in a historic part of town. Well done.
I have been going to black kite coffee for a couple years now. I have always had great coffee and food there. Parking can be cumbersome, and forget about getting a cup after church get out on Sunday. But altogether it is one of the best coffee shop/Lounge in northwest ohio. It is also a great place to have a meeting with someone or to get some work done.
Black Kite Coffee and Pies is the best place in Toledo for a quiet study session, a social gathering, a moment of relaxation before and after the work day, and a delicious cup of coffee or tea. They also have great food and host many events centered for Toledo-local enthusiasts.A great place for couples, students, families (they have story time!) musicians, artists, business men and women, and - of course - coffee lovers!
Great food, great coffee, extremely cute atmosphere, and friendly service. They also have a some options for different dietary restrictions. My favorite coffee shop! Friendly for all types of people and kids.
Had a wonderful time visiting even with the weather being cold. Thank you flour the great coffee and great service.
Love this place. Great neighborhood coffee place.
Great keto coffee, friendly service and great atmosphere
Great neighborhood coffee shop with great coffee, baked goods made in house and a great space. Perfect for a date, meeting or cathing up with old friends.
Kitche environment with great coffee an an assortment of small fare.
Great local small business cafe and coffee house! Been here a few times and have never had a problem! The selection of food is really unique and always changing.
This place is great, way better than Starbucks even!
