Great little local bookstore with a coffee shop upstairs and seating outside as well. Interesting mix of titles.

This bookstore is special because the employees are passionate about knowledge books and people. When I come again to this will be my for sure stop. Did I also mention it has a coffee shop and two other restaurant? I want to live in this place. Books, people and coffee/tea is my life!

I live in Arizona and needed a gift certificate for my niece and nephew who live in Tallahassee. Midtown Reader made my transaction the easiest, most efficient process possible. A few clicks on the laptop and the gift certificate was ready to be picked up - we didnt even need to wait for it to be mailed. This type of super-fast service is so appreciated. And, best of all, they both love all the books they chose.

Friendly staff was very helpful and had great recommendations! Love the cozy atmosphere!! A great little bookstore with a nice selection of books, including a whole section of Florida books and another with books by local authors. Also some cards and gifts and an excellent coffee shop upstairs.

Great books, great staff! If its been popular within the last five years, you can probably find it. Same thing goes if its going to become a movie soon or if its been trending for some odd reason or the other. Coffee shop above, enough parking nearby even when its busy, and good COVID guidelines.

Wonderful little bookshop locally owned and packed with excellent books. The relatively small space limits the selection, but the staff has always been wonderful and very helpful when ordering titles. All my orders have come in very quickly and I get a phone call or email the same day it arrives.

This a cool little place. Wandering through I found a number of books to add to my list. Also nice were the notes by some of the books with info and thoughts from the staff.

A great place to spend quality time with your kids. Good bookstores are hard to find and this one is a keeper. Each family member got a great book, we played games, met a awesome dog namedCharlie ( yes, dog friendly) and ate cupcakes. A perfect afternoon.

Its a relatively constant sentiment of mine to be reluctant in writing reviews, however, this little book store changed that. Their staff is kind, helpful, and overall splendid to be around--obviously--moving on. I recently reached out to them in search of a Carl Sagan book. They didnt have it in stock, so they researched the darn thing and found me the most beautiful 1st edition hardcover copy (in only a few days)! I was shocked they didnt have it, since their current selection is actually perfect, and even more shocked that they went though so much effort to get me this lovely book. Gang, even if you want to order a book online, they can do it for you--its both more exciting, and better for local business. Its a nice place with nice people who do nice things. I love all book stores equally, but Midtown Reader has proved theres no need to go anywhere else.

Very nice quaint bookstore. My first time shopping there. I was expecting the books to be used but they were new ones. Prices comparable to other chain bookstores. Staff very helpful in locating book I was looking for. She had a very sweet and caring spirit. Nice calming atmosphere and nicely decorated.

Wonderful collection of new books with endless recommendations from staff, various signings and readings by local and regional authors. Upstairs is a small and cute cafe. A little gem in Tallahassee.

Independent book stores are a nice break from the corporate chains. The staff here were friendly and knowledgeable. We had a child with tourettes with us and they were so friendly to her. We have been places where people stop and stare or make fun of her. This little shop embraced her. Make sure to check out the staff picks and go upstairs to have a tasty bakery item.

Ample parking. Very clean and neat. Incredible service. Excellent selection and knowledgeable recommendations. Fair prices with some sales. Free gift wrapping included with purchase! Comfy seats. The only independent (new books) bookstore in Tallahassee afaik. I recommend it.

Midtown Reader was a great experience! The people there are super nice and friendly, once you enter, you feel completely welcomed! The details from the floor to the wallpaper are just beautiful. Even the bathroom has wallpaper with books and actual authors have signed it! The books they have here are very good reads for all kinds of age groups! Loved this place and I recommend it to anyone that is in the area!

Great bookstore and had just what I was looking for! My kids loved everything about it. My younger children loved the childrens area and my older two both found interesting books and other items. Plus there was a sweet therapy dog there today too! We will be going back.

I loved this place! Im not from Tallahassee, but stopped in with a friend and loved the layout, choices of books, and prices. Two girls were working behind the counter and they were so friendly! We had a couple minute discussion on Eleanor Roosevelt and they were so sweet and offered up other books after seeing my purchase. It was a fantastic experience. Ill be moving to Tallahassee in a few months, and I cant wait to be a regular patron.

This store is too cute! The staff is friendly and super helpful and if they dont have what you are looking for in stock they will order it. My only qualm is the PRICES. They are WAY TO expensive. Like double Amazon prices! I try to buy a few books a year from them but I cant afford to shop there more than that. There is a cheaper book store in Thomasville the Bookshelf and of course Amazon. Also the used bookstore My Favorite Books which is local and also cheaper.... Not to mention the local library where you can just rent books. Thats why they lose 1 star. Just too pricey. Sorry yall. Try being more competitive with your prices!

This bookstore is a dream. I found it by accident (while searching for Lucy & Leos cupcakes) and Im so happy I did. Each employee I spoke with was very friendly and ready to answer any questions I had. Even though Im not an avid reader, Shannon was super patient and kind to offer several recommendations for books that I might enjoy. What a cozy and well-stocked bookstore! Midtown Reader sits in the heart of Midtown, welcoming visitors in to peruse the shelves. Many books carry special handwritten reviews by the staff tucked into their pages and you even have the chance to write one for a favorite book for the next visitor! The space is on the small side, but has stocked everything from popular novels to childrens books and books by local Florida authors. And, if you feel like hanging around and starting in on your new book, there is Lucky Goat coffee available and lots of space on the patio. Midtown Reader offers their books to you with loving care, hoping you treasure them as much as they do.

Ive frequented the shop since they opened in 2016, and Ive had nothing but stellar experiences. The staff is very helpful, conversational, and knowledgeable when it comes to the books they have in stock. I see some reviews complaining about the availability and prices of the books, but that comes with the local store territory. The Midtown Reader is not a BAM or Amazon that can stock hundreds of thousands of books and sell them for cheap because of recouped costs in other parts of their business. It is a small, local store, and if they dont have the book you want in stock, they will happily order it for you!

Great local book store with the Lucy and Leo’s Cupcakery inside of it. They’ll order books for you and there are squishy chairs upstairs for your reading pleasure. They have a great collection adults, youth and children.

Great collection of books. They have everything from childrens books, to biographies, to cookbooks. I was looking for a South Asian cookbook, and while they didnt have what I needed in stock, the staff were very helpful in guiding me to their cookbook section and offering to order what I needed since they didnt have it in the store.

Who doesnt love a good book store? Midtown Reader is beautiful! I enjoy supporting great local businesses, and before Midtown Reader opened, I often genuinely missed browsing around a small bookstore and finding something new to read. Amazon/online stores are great if you know exactly what you want, but I enjoy a lazy weekend perusing shelves and stumbling across something unexpected. The staff is very nice and helpful at Midtown Reader, which makes the shopping experience a pleasure. They are great at giving suggestions when needed. My husband and I like to give books as gifts, and the staff at Midtown Reader have not steered us wrong yet, when helping us choose for hard to shop for family members. If you havent checked it out yet, you need to!
