Awesome grocery store, good food and service. Today the item I came for was gone. I asked a worker if they were about to fill it, they werent but they went and got some and filled it up essentially at my request. The cashiers are always efficient and the clientele are respectful. Definitely pay for the membership, it is worth it.

The two things that I love about the Central Co-op is their large variety of vegetarian/vegan products, the bulk section with also, a large variety of options, where you can bring your own jars if you live a less-waste lifestyle. The employees are very friendly and helpful! I just wish we lived closer, so we could visit more often. They also have a great selection of health and care items. Also, price-wise, the Central Co-op is very competitive, with many prices being lower than a Whole Foods. The one thing I wish they had in bulk is cleaning and personal higiene products as well.

I often experience the absolute worst customers there - old hippy white men who never took even feminism 101 or young white men who clearly need mental health help and passive aggressively project and try to take it out their angry with the world leftover teenage angst on me- but hands down was the instacart hipster couple who nearly ran me over with a cart then acted like I was at fault because I was walking down the same aisle as them. “Oh shut up lady,” they aggressed when I pointed out maybe they could do the small thing of watching out for other peoples ankles or perhaps smile and say excuse me like we are actually civilized.Customer service is great I have met the kindest nicest employees and volunteers there who go the extra mile and actually authentically have the desire and intention of helping. I have had wonderful conversations and lovely interactions with volunteer and staff every time I go there tho I will say some of you white people really need to pay attention to what your body is doing around and towards other bodies. And I am 100 per cent grateful to have access to grade A quality food thanks to hard worker farmers who take care of the soil and do this good earths work so we can eat. But perhaps the “equity” payments would be more equitable if the folks such as ugly instacart couple who felt it necessary to verbally assault someone they were having a negative impact on when she asserted her experience of THEM paid a redress fee for a person who’s account still owes and who has less less privilege than they

We are a co-op member and so proud of it, because I can tell they genuinely care about the quality of items they carry and their customers. This is the place to go if you want to support our local farmers and businesses. Their employees must be well taken care of too, because everyone we talk to seems happy and professional. I love, love, love Central Co-op, both because it is a genuinely community-owned and oriented organization, and because of their wonderful selection of products. Unlike corporate natural and high-end food options, Central Co-op has a commitment to working with local producers to support sustainable, people-driven agriculture both here in Washington (delicious local peaches!) and abroad (great fair-trade coffee!). I love to cook and make especial use of the bulk sections, fresh produce, and good dairy. The wine selection is also good. Finally, people there are always helpful and its refreshing to be checked out by someone who doesnt seem like theyve had their soul ground to bits by a giant corporation. This place is an asset to our community.

They also have a small section with candles and inscense as well as items for gift giving. Some of the folks that work there are helpful and personable, but others not so much. It’s kind of pricey on some items, it’s a good idea to keep up with some really good sales that they have. I would say overall it’s a good place to shop. They do have some nice wines as well. This has happened more than once and appears to be a new trend of theirs. Today they closed 20 minutes early, my daughter and I had raced over to buy our food. Another man had also been turned away and he had raced right from work to buy his food. We all met at PCC to buy our food because they are reliable about keeping their store open at their stated hours. My daughter and I will be now going to PCC if we need to get groceries at later hours. We spent lots of money, today we spent $101 dollars. I will be getting a PCC membership since now I will be shopping more at PCC for my daughter and me.

3.75 stars. Pricey BUT 1) You get what you pay for and 2) its mostly truly whole, natural food. Still, part of a Co-ops mission should be to sell people real and good food, offering them the healthy food basics at super cheap prices. They kind of fail to do that here. Produce (almost all organic, much of it local) prices range from average to expensive, for example. The bakery is so whatever/nothing. The deli could step up but I gather that they have space challenges. Hopefully those will be addressed soon and this little neighborhood gem can be fully realized soon. As it is, Central Co-Op has been around since 1978 and offers a complete range of goods that you would expect to find in a full supermarket, just without the chemicals and garbage you find in too much conventional food. Still, Trader Joes, a block away, offers some items at absurdly reduced prices compared with non-profit Central Co-Op. Its almost as if Central Co-Op has buried its head in the sand with regard to these types of realities. Also, Central Co-Op could be even better at carrying local goods. Ive heard from many local vendors how difficult it is to get their products on the shelves. Still, I have a soft spot for Central Co-Op; they do a good job and they have deep roots in our community. You should shop there.

Pros: The store carries a wide variety of excellent and interesting products. The produce is generally of very good quality. The meat is usually good, although the fat content of the ground beef is always lower than similarly labeled beef from a mainstream grocery store, which means the ground beef tends to be dry and bland. The fresh bread is really good, and the beer selection is great for store of this size.Cons: A significant proportion of the stores staff seem perpetually resentful and are just generally not good at their jobs. The butchers in the meat department are almost always grumpy. The people who run the smoothie station are frequently snarky or even downright rude, and the smoothies usually have off flavors from equipment not being cleaned at all between orders. Some of the cashiers are great at cashiering, but a number of them have surprisingly poor social skills and seem to resent that customers exist. The store is a bit small, and can get cramped when its busy. The staff are perpetually restocking much of the store, which makes things even more crowded. The restocking crew generally doesnt see any need to make way for customers who are trying to reach products; they seem to resent any interruption to their work, and will virtually never proactively stop what they are doing to let customers grab an item. If you ask them to move, be prepared for an eye roll or heavy sigh in response.

Central co op led me to believe I would be switching to a position in grocery (from the deli). They knew my availability, and when applying for the grocery position I made that clear once again. They decided they couldn’t fit me into grocery, and no longer had hours in the deli for me. They offered a position in Seattle (which I literally cannot make work with daycare hours) so they wouldn’t have to give me severance. I am absolutely disgusted by the actions of this company, and I don’t intend on being quiet about it. I’m a single mom with no way to pay my rent next month. Ive been looking to get away from the chain stores, looking for a new grocery store, when I found central co-op. I jumped at the opportunity to ensure most of my money stays local. I read a lot of reviews that were questionable, but wed driven by before, and from the size on the outside it seemed like they would have a decent amount of selection. The outside of the store is misleading. Once youre inside you see that there is a lot of walled off space in odd shapes, and the store is tiny and cramped. The selection is reasonable for the size of the store, however that doesnt mean youll find what youre looking for. I saw a review that mentioned it was a great place for chicken feet, which I unfortunately thought meant that all chicken would be plentiful. There was literally more chicken feet than chicken breast. I realized that being more about local and natural, that my grocery list would have to reflect that sort of selection. There were so many items that were out of stock, and a lot of things that they just dont have room to stock. I left the store with less than half the items on my list. The staff is apathetic at best. Some are extremely passive aggressive. I felt like I was in their way while they were stocking things, for customers to buy... which is why they work there. Youll be better off not asking for help, unless you want a huge sigh and a point in the general direction, and then youre still just on your own.The parking area is tiny, if you have anything more than the smallest compact there are only about 4 spaces that your car will fit in, and theres maybe 30ish spaces at most anyway. Youll circle several times before you find a space that your car probably wont fit in. If youre close enough to walk or just need a few things and you can ride there it might be a better choice.I really wanted to like this place. I spent a while on the website and read a lot about it from other sources. I was even interested in joining the co-op until I actually went there. We wont be back.
