3.5 stars. Came here on the recommendation from the Fish Market guys. Since it was a weekday lunch, we got seated immediately. Since it is located on the 2nd floor of the building, you can see the market and the water if you sit at the window. We got an appetizer and a main course to share. Food was good. The appetizer was hot smoker salmon with thin bread. The main course was a tomato based broth with seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp and fish) with pasta. The salmon was very very good. The bread was fresh, crunchy and tasty. The broth was definitely for 2 people, not one. We felt cheated a bit on the seafood contents because there was one shrimp and one small piece of fish. The bread accompanying it came with a mayo based sauce which was good.Place is kind of pricey. They add a 20% tip to the check and 60% of it goes to the server. That is a great idea. Just not sure about the 20%.Overall, decent food but would like to see more pieces of seafood in a plate thats supposed to be a seafood medley.
This was my second visit and it was quite impressive. Perhaps one of the better versions of a crab cake that I have ever had anywhere. The halibut was absolutely delicious. The location is amazing near Pike Place Market. Friendly service. Recommend highly if you are interested in delicious and freshly prepared seafood that are slightly priced higher than other options.
Not a big fan of the automatic 20% service charge but service was not bad. The waiter took my kids incomplete meal without asking then tells me its my fault I didnt say anything despite he didnt even bother to ask. Nevertheless, another waiter was kind enough to bring a new cup of chowder as replacement.Mussels were good. Dungeness crab cake was small but good. Alaskan clam chowder was creamy and good. Grilled Alaskan Troll King Salmon was over cooked and the sauce does not compliment the salmon but rather overpower the taste. Tequila Lime Shrimp was good, not overcooked. Cheesecake was ok.
We ducked in to the Steelhead diner on a surprisingly sunny day in February, after rambling in a crowded Pike Place Market. The host was great, seating us near a window with a view of Post Alley and the Sound. Interesting Playlist, we liked it!, digging into the early 80s catalog. The Cioppino was a solid B/B+, great Brutus salad and nice wine list for a lunch menu. We were an even split in 3 vs. 4 star rating. The steak salads seemed to be too heavily dressed, and the fish and chips a bit heavy on the heavy on the breading. But the steak was perfect, and the fish fresh and tasty. What are you gonna do? One thing we agreed on, the acoustics are great! We could actually enjoy the meal and enjoy our conversation.
Absolutely awesome! We sat at the bar which was a pleasure as the bar staff were attentive and full of innovative drink combinations. The menu was fresh and completely difficult to choose as everything was intriguing. Atmosphere was great! Great views of the passersby. Just a great experience all the way around!
4/16/19: Went for dinner and had a nice experience. Service was prompt and friendly. Dishes ordered: gumbo, fried chicken, cioppino, burrata pasta, roasted vegetables, mac and cheese, and strawberry rhubarb tart.Dishes were larger than expected. Burrata was not as creamy as hoped and the roasted vegetables could have used a bit more seasoning although they were roasted nicely.Cioppino did not disappoint. Lots of seafood variety in a flavorful broth that tasted of the ocean. The fried chicken came with 4 pieces sitting in brown gravy topped with sauteed spinach. Very good. Fried light and crisp, batter not heavy, and meat tender. The gravy was a very nice compliment.Finished dinner with the strawberry rhubarb tart. Very refreshing. Not too sweet.
Upbeat relaxed atmosphere. Delicious eclectic menu including surf, turf, poultry, veganThe Steelhead Dinner offers a fantastic menu of one of a kind cocktails themed after northwest steelhead fishing flies. Theyre delicious! Prices are on the expensive side per plate with king salmon at 46 dollars excluding dinner salad. With views of Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, the Olympic peninsula and post alley this place is location location location. The menu is served 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. which allows for transition from dinner into Seattle night life literally blocks away.Because of each menu item priced high I downgraded my 5 review to a 4.As an avid fisherman and foodie I know food prices. They are priced on the steep side. However, the food is masterfully prepared, presented, and taste is amazing.I will definitely be visiting again soon
Love it here! The atmosphere is so great you can come with friends, by yourself (like I did) or on a date and you will love it. The Bartender was awesome and so was the waiter and the host. I had a glass of white wine and tried the shrimp tater tots and the salmon dish. Everything was delicious. Make sure to get your salmon medium rare and enjoy. I heard their fried chicken is pretty good too!!
My favorite upscale diner in Seattle at Pike Place Market. Great location at Pine and Post Alley. Great service, the food does not disappoint. Must haves are the Painted Hills Grass Feed Beef Burger, Flash Fried Alaskan Rockfish Tacos, and the Sautéed Stream Raised Idaho Trout filet with sage and roasted pecan butter sauce and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Nice wine selection, and some tables have awesome views, with comfy seating throughout.
Very yummy! Their crabcakes are amazing, yum, I want some more.Good wine, nice crowd, mellowish ambiance,.The place is family friendly, so if you want to take your kids out to eat seafood, then this is a good place for you. I hadnt seen kids in a while and I saw some here, is that weird?Anyway, I loved the salad I ordered too. I honestly would go back just for the salad.Ohh and by the way, Great service! Dont miss this diner
I am mixed on my review because I think they could have received much higher marks. They were very busy which offered a great suggestion that the food was going to be excellent; however things started off a little poorly with choppy service filled with long delays and needed requests for drinks, bread, cutlery and refills. Things unfortunately turned more unpleasant when we discovered the fountain drinks were extremely odd tasting (both the diet Coke and Sprite)....and supposedly other customers made the same complaint. My daughters entree was delivered without the main protein and the flavors of both our dishes were oddly bland with no bright notes, one toned flavors and definitely no sense of umami. Desserts were so close to being really good but the crust recipe on the pecan pie was again bland and was overcooked which created a pretty inedible experience as the crust shell was really hard to break through. I believe the the most difficult thing to swallow was that they only offered half-off the price of the missing protein entree and Steelhead Diner definitely has a more pricey menu. Now, onto what I really enjoyed: they have so much potential between the location (right by the pikes place market), the decor of the restaurant is fantastic, an upbeat environment, and there is a nice menu selection. I would like to give them another shot when I visit Washington again someday, but as the menu and the prices stand: it would likely not be on my higher priority list.
I didnt have anything as I wasnt hungry. It looked like a nice place, sister raved about the seafood she had. I was able to have a seat that was right above the street, on the corner, so I enjoyed a little beautiful view of the bay. If I were in the area & hungry for some good seafood, I would go there to try it. The service was quick & friendly & the waitress did an excellent job at keeping the water glasses full.
Steelhead Diner is a good place to eat a bit of a fancier meal, but a nice hidden gem in Post Alley. It has decent prices for being near Pike Place Market, but their food is delicious. A lot of the appetizers are amazing, which we usually fill up on. Their drink pours are average, so dont come here to get drunk, but to casually have a drink with dinner. Very friendly staff, and food comes out pretty quickly for how busy it usually is also.
Excellent! Never knew fish and chips could be so good! Highly recommend. Suggest reservations. Understand that most downtown restaurants add 20% service charge. Great location.
Servers are very nice. You are greeted when you enter and as you leave. Friendly, stylish, upbeat atmosphere. Food...hmmm. Was it bad? No. Thoughts...food, good food is passion, its a love affair with the earth and all the goodies she has to offer. Not bad food may have started out with good intentions but for whatever reasons the vision of good/great food has been set aside. A menu in my opinion should tell a story that is memorable and easily retold. I am not putting the restaurant down. I want to be part of keeping the restaurant up.
Great near-Pike Place diner with the freshest fish, including Dungeness crab, Hood Canal oysters, Alaska halibut lingcod. Minimalist decor, but jewel-like cases of hand-tied fly fishing flies; the place comes by its name honestly. Better than many a more pretentious restaurant in the Pike Place neighborhood.
Great food, nice atmosphere and not packed like some of the more famous places around the market area. Tried their Market Cioppino very good. May have trouble picking something else now that Ive found something I know I like. Wife had the fish and chips which were also very good.
Great experience. Trust the raves on the fish and chips, but our group covered most of the menu, and was delighted. Service was a little slow, but may be due to auto 20% gratuity ☹️, would have tipped well anyway, but still like the ability to give tip relative to service.
I want to give this 4 stars but here’s the straight scoop...Nice looking place...Spotlessly clean...Good service...Where it falls short is the food. After two visits - with appetizers - salads - entrees - I’d say tge food is mediocre. This place strikes me as a slick place next to the big tourist attraction. It has great eye candy appeal and so what food. The bar is solid so if you’re having an evening with friends over drinks.I won’t be returning...there are other choices in the area that are better.
This is just another seafood cafe/restaurant that sells mediocre fried fish at a high price. Recently tried the fried cod with french fries. The batter was heavy and greasy, the fries were ordinary fries. I removed most of the batter as it was too grease laden to eat. The attraction here is that it is close to the Pike Place Market and has a flashy sign out front to attract the flocks of tourists. On top of the blah food this place automatically adds a 20% tip to the tab. So whether the service is good or poor one is stuck with the 20% tip. I totally disagree with establishments automatically adding a tip percentage to the tab. Let the customer determine the appropriate tip % based upon the service received. My wife and I will not return to this place as there are many, many seafood restaurants in Seattle with better food and who do not charge 20% tip automatically.
Attractive space and a nice location, but very average food in Seattle at that price point. We mainly selected this restaurant because it was downtown and near light rail, plus we could point out some sites to a visitor from out of town. The service was very prompt (seemed like they wanted to turn over tables quickly), which could be a positive or a negative depending on the occasion. So, nothing negative at all, just not a memorable meal. Because it offers certain convenience factors, I can imagine returning again in the future.
Excellent service, fast and friendly. Very helpful ordering, wait staff made great suggestions based on our preferences.. Food was excellent. Fresh, flavorful seafood, some of the best weve had. You cant go wrong here. Good selection. Nice views of the water. Highly recommended.
Steelhead diner has good food and excellent drinks! The service is quite good. Weve had several very pleasant meals here.
Came here for a work lunch and the food was very good. Pricey, but given its downtown location that was to be expected. I had the steak salad which was over all good, except for the fact they put egg on the salad and did not list that on the menu. I personally do not care for hard boiled eggs and would have ordered without. Service was good for the busy lunch hour.I would have rated 5-stars had their menu been accurate regarding the ingredients listed.
Very professional and personable. I was in the area for cancer treatment and the staff are so amazing and went the extra mile for me. One guy even ran down the street to flag down my hotel shuttle. Im very grateful!!! The food is amazing!!!
This was one of the first restaurants I visited when I moved to the Seattle area. The service was great, the presentation was great, but the flavors were nothing to write home about. I think in this area there are several better options for food. I hope they can improve the flavor in the future because everyone we interacted with went above and beyond to ensure we had a good experience.
All foods are delicious, services are super. I recommend this Restaurant for everyone. My family & I will go back again. Atmosphere is great.
I have been to Seattle twice and have been to this amazing restaurant twice. The service is amazing and the food is phenomenal. Take my word for it: try the olive-crusted halibut. Absolutely the best halibut dish I have ever eaten!
Well I will say the bloody mary was amazing and spicy, the staff left a lot to be desired. The bartender pretty much ignored us and then randomly left for about 15 minutes. I will say I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese it was fantastic. The biggest thorn in my side is this particular restaurant charges an automatic 20% tip. You cant change it but you can add to it. This bartender deserved maybe at best 10%. I may have ordered takeout next time I am in your state but the automatic tipping is likely why their staff is unprofessional, so I will not be back.
Recommended by a friend from Boston, our group of ladies from Ohio and NC had a wonderful lunch here in Seattle. Great food - just outside Pikes Market.I had the tater tots and the butter gulf shrimp - Yummy!
We had the Halibut and roasted vegetables. Thought it was very good. Sourdough bread is the stuff dreams are made of. Same for the Key Lime pie. Overall better than we expected. Most likely will return before we leave next week.
Fish & Chips tasty but a little oily. Salads drenched in creamy dressing...but tasty. A little less dressing would be good. I would order dressing on the side.
Nestled in the market, this restaurant is really too nice to be called a diner. I mean I saw Kenny G there, and he doesnt mess around. The wine list is awesome with some potent options and great cocktails too. The food is good as well, bringing some modern takes on more traditional fish and meat. The lamb was succulent and flavor-packed and even the salad was awesome. Dont let the somewhat touristy location fool you.
Went there with a group if 4. Everything we ordered was delicious. No one had any complaints about the food. The waiter was very friendly. It was a good atmosphere. I will definitely recommend this establishment to others.
Loved everything about this place! Great atmosphere, fun staff, amazing food and spirits. Looking forward to my next trip to Seattle and visiting Steelhead Diner will be a must!
Been here a few times now and each visit has been lovely. I had the BBQ sandwich on my first visit and loved it - Im from Memphis so thats saying something. I had their fish and chips on my most recent visit and it was perfectly crispy and tender. They have great fries as well.Beer selection is great and the view from the bar over the market is just beautiful. The wait staff are very attentive.
Enjoyed even though Im not ordinarily much of a fish fan. My partner got the Oregon Sole with lemon caper sauce... VERY good--couldnt stop stealing it off of his plate! Fish and chips was better than average, and drinks fine. Service fine but not amazing.
Went for Sunday brunch. We had two cancellations from our group at the last minute and they were fine with that. We chose the Steelhead Diner because they came up as having gluten-free options. In the end they modified my order so the burger came in a lettuce leaf and they switched my fries for Truffle potatoes which were fried in their own oil.Cant fault their helpfulness but the burger felt like a compromise. Could they have offered a gluten-free burger roll and sold it as Gluten-friendly if they didnt have a specific gluten-free preparation area for it?Im not the expert and havent taken out much in WA before, maybe different states have different guidelines?Service was good and overall we enjoyed our meal.
Located right in front of the Pike Place Market, Steelhead Diner is a nice restaurant to get some Pacific Northwest fare. Because of its touristy location the place is always very busy. Expect wait times even on weekdays.Wait times are in a way testimony to a restaurants goodness and this one is no different. The food is good. Service is not slow and the staff is very polite.
Good food. But, considering the mandatory 20% gratuity, i wouldve thought i would be brought flatware before my meal. Or, not have to wait 7 minutes to give a drink order. This is precisely why gratuities are earned. You want your employees to be taken care of, pay them a living wage. Probably wont go back. Tons of great options nearby.
Skip. Decent food, but service was off. Ordered and took long time to get a drink. Appetizer never showed up and drink refills seemed a foreign concept. Took forever to pay when error was pointed out on the app being skipped. They add 20% tip by default. What BS!
The staff here are excellent. The food is decent. For the price, the quality of food could have been better. Things like having a bowl for mussel shells and fish bones are a must-have for seafood restaurants. The clam chowder was bland, and Ive honestly had better from a can.
Hi for me and my family this restaurant have been the worst restaurant in Seattle. The food was good but the service the very very Bad Horrible. Our waitress the worst waitress in the restaurant. She took care of a table that got to the restaurant after us, she never brought us the bread and butter she was rude she us always rushing us . We were still eating when she was already asking us if we wanted any desert. She was very rude with us and very friendly and polite with the table in front of us. When the food was brought to our table it was place on the table in a very rude way. When she heard my wife speaking Spanish she got more rude. I will never ever go to this restaurant again with my family. We wasted $120.00. She should get fire. 😮😞😞😞😞
We stopped in here for lunch while visiting Pike Place Market and we were not disappointed! The food is amazing. We had the fish tacos, trout with curry, and kids fish and chips. The fish tacos were the most creative and best tasting Ive ever had. My husband loved the trout and curry dish. Our 3 year old raved about the fish and chips. The fish in the fish and chips was the best tasting battered fish Ive ever had too.The menu is very creative and we had a hard time narrowing down what we wanted to try. There is a vegetarian section on the menu as well. They were happy to accommodate our childs dairy allergy too.
We brought our family from the Midwest here after taking them through Pike Place. After a brief wait, our server brought us to the patio with a great view of the Sound & part of Post Alley. We dined on the most wonderfully cooked shrimp, a fabulous burger, great mac & cheese for our niece, and other good eats. I cant recommend the food more - everything was delicious, and I am already looking forward to coming back.
Great views and a wide selection of Pacific Northwest foods. Amazing crab cakes, fried chicken and any of the fish will be amazing. Go around sunset time and watch the sun go down as the ferrys come and go.
Wonderful fish and chips. For once not oversalted and they were fried in fresh, clean oil. Melt in your mouth good. The chef knows how to fry fish! If you want spicy the tables have all the right the condiments. Great service and, since I usually tip the appropriate 20%, I was glad to have it included in the check. I will definitely go back!
Really tasty food. Has a great vibe, somewhat high class but still fundamentally a diner. A little spendy, but its worth it.
This is a busy restaurant due to its location as well as the tasty food for which they are known. The razor clam chowder is one of my favorites. Locals and tourists alike go here to eat.
Plain and simple, this place is amazing and I am always very impressed. Its my favorite place to take folks visiting, and all of them have been impressed. Now that I am no longer in Seattle, I still make the time to go and eat there. Well worth many visits and eating your way through the menu.
Excellent all around. We picked this place randomly after walking around Pike Place Market. We got seated quickly and everything we ordered was made and got to us very fast. Everything we ordered was excellent (the seafood dish my father got looked amazing and my father said it was some of best he had ever had). Solid beer, wine, and liquor selection as well. The next time I visit Seattle I will be heading back here.
View of the market from the well-stocked bar (a particularly nice selection of tequilas).Scrumptious apple/ice cream dessert followed a tasty, rich gumbo.
My wife and I ate here for the first time on Saturday before the Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys concert. Our server COREY was fantastic. Id have to say the best service weve had dining ever. Keep it up my dude.
Came here with a group of 12 to celebrate a department at work. The reservation was easy to make, and even when we showed up at 4:39 (the reservation wasn’t until 5) they still accommodated us with grace. Working in marketing means a rambunctious group, but the staff kept up. Our glasses were always full, our food was excellent, and the service was fast. An easy five stars.
Ok. Let’s talk. If you follow my reviews you know I don’t hold back when anything is out of sorts. Admittedly, I’m a tough sort to please. I have been in the restaurant industry far too long to apologize for my passion for food and service. It bothers me when restaurants and their management lack sufficient passion for their products and offerings. I always say, when I finish those reviews, “would I go back?” The answer for Steelhead is, an absolute yes!!I was asked last night by a student. “Chef, what’s the best restaurant you’ve experienced since moving to Seattle?” In all fairness, I won’t have an answer until I’m 500 pounds and have dined at them all. But, so far, Steelhead is a must dine in the Emerald City. Give it a try. Let me know if you had as great an experience as we did. All preparations are extraordinary and done with thought and care. Pricing is fair. The wine list doesn’t disappoint! Try it. Enjoy it.
